Sept 08: last year they were cute little bundles that smelt of milk and vanilla, but now they've been replaced with a babyzilla!

A new thread for us as the last one was running low.

Ooh, and secondly, anyone having swine flu jab?
We've been offered ours - what to do??!

Ponymum · 02/02/2010 21:10

iom Yes, she definitely loves her daddy! But that's fine with me as it means I can get on with something else. DH plays her songs on his guitar and she has learnt to press the effects pedals to make different noises! It keeps them both entertained for hours. I think the thing with Daddy is possibly novelty as he is not around so much. She is definitely more excited when he is here but it might be because she can run, er I mean waddle, back and forth between us to show us each the latest book/toy/miscellaneous non-child friendly thing she found on the floor.

I have had the swine flu jab (for being preggo) but I don't think I'm going to get it for DD.

ninja · 02/02/2010 21:57

Ni Imo - I did!! You resurected it again, thanks

I have to say I have the opposite to you, BOTH my daughters have been more clingy with me. H puts it down to me bf, but I'm not sure.

While I was pregnant, we both tried to encourage DD1 to spend more time with H, and tbh it was great. It's good to have a little space in the house sometimes.

I'm not sure about the swine flu jab either .....

ninja · 03/02/2010 09:17

See, it's definitely me (could be the poor spelling of rsurrected that did it!)

Sunshinemummy · 03/02/2010 09:48

Re. the favourite parent thing both mine flit between the two of us. The bond between DD and her dad has recently become noticeably stronger though. I think breastfeeding did affect their bonding but they are well over that now (DS was ff so never had that same issue).

DebiTheScot · 03/02/2010 11:13

I asked my sil about the swine flu jab (she's a doctor) and her response was something like, it's better to have a child with a sore arm for a couple of days than one in intensive care ill. She also said that the % of children with a bad reaction to it is very small.

So both mine will have it (even though I think ds1 might have had swine flu already but then maybe not as he didn't pass it on to us) next week. I've had to cancel it 3 times due to chicken pox and a parents night but ut should be next week.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/02/2010 12:41

I don't get a look in with ds if dh is around, but I'm very happy with that. The only time he would choose me over dh is if he's really really upset.

He also adores his Granny and when she comes to pick him up every week he can't get away from me fast enough!!

IMO my DS cries if DH passes him to me Daddy is a LOT more fun. The up side is that I've had lots more time with DD! It always used to be that if DH and I were going different places on a weekend, I would take the baby coz bf and DH would take DD coz they're really close, but that's switched now. TBH they both prefer daddy, but DD can see that 121 mummy time is better than sharing daddy, and DS kicks up a right stink when DH leaves! I'm a full time mum and I try to do exciting stuff but lots of days are quite functional, daddy is just a breath of fresh air and silliness when he comes home. But the crying if DS is passed from DH to me does go through me like a knife at times like that I remember the ladies here who have no breath of fresh air coming home at tea time and I'm thankful that my kids have a wonderful dad who they adore so much. So I scurry off for some internet time!

The kids and I have all had the swine flu jab (I'm asthmatic not preggo!). Kids showed no side effects, but I couldn't sleep on the jab side for about 3 nights or lift the arm above shoulder height. I think I might have had swine flu over christmas, but it was a 24 hour thing. Certainly no regrets about having had the jab for any of us.

DS's walking is getting brilliant, and he's got new words every day. I think he knows the colour blue too. I've taught him to sign lots of his colours, and if you show him two things and ask him to pick the blue one, he does! He's also getting quite naughty, he'll throw something and they say 'throw' and then sign 'sorry'! Then throw again! He still loves reading though, and we've bought him the playmobil ambulance coz he loves opening and closing doors and putting things in and out. DD is earning her new playmobil dolls house with a sticker chart for weeing in the toilet and not in her pants...

We've had the longest most horrendous potty training experience with dd after starting too early at just before 2 (although she was showing all the signs and was keen as mustard, just regresses for no reason every so often) so I intend to keep ds in nappies for the next year at least coz I'm not going through this again.

Meglet · 03/02/2010 21:50

Both of mine have just got 'invites' for their swine flu jabs but I'm not sure whether they'll have it or not. I've always taken them to jabs as soon as they are called for them but I'm worrying about the swine flu jab, whether i'ts been tested enough / side effects etc. I'm going to have a think about it.

DD gets on and off the potty naked and fully clothes, but will only sit for a few seconds. As I'm still finishing off potty training her big brother I have no desire to do it again for another year or so. I'm going to aim for next Spring with DD, at 2.5 it might work .

Meglet · 03/02/2010 22:21

This is something I've been meaning to type up for weeks. It was in the Xmas card from DD that she 'made' at nursery. There was a glittery hand print on the front of the card (photo on my profile).......

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my handprint
On furniture and wall.

But everyday I'm growing
(I'll be all grown up someday)
And all those tiny handprints
Will surely fade away

So here's a little handprint
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When they were very small

I am so relieved I didn't read open it at nursery as I would have been a snivelling wreck in front of the staff

Luckily I opened it at home and was a snivelling wreck in my lounge instead .

CarrieBo · 03/02/2010 23:29

meglet you should have issued a tissues warning before putting that up!!

I'm sooooo with you on the leaving it a year between finishing potty training the first child before moving onto the next one! DD was in pants from 23months but something 'clicked' at about 2 1/2 and she was way more reliable then. Apart from this last week

Why am I on MN at this time of night? WHY???!!

splishsplosh · 03/02/2010 23:37

reminds me of a lovely poem that was on the wall in 1 of the childrens centres back home, about all the things that you do in the day looking after your child. Can't remember a word of it, but was a tissue job too.

We have appointment for the dds to have swine flu jab on saturday, am feeling unsure as well

Hopefully · 04/02/2010 11:27

Morning!

Am for some reason feeling all blue today. Keep thinking I should be 8 weeks pregnant but due to manky MC am not at all pregnant. I think it's because it's been almost a full cycle since MC and there are no signs of being pg again (don't think I actually ovulated this cycle, so it would have been impressive if I had been). Grrrr.

Also need to pack change bag, dress T and get us out of the door to the shop at some point soon, as we have finally admitted that we may actually need a travel cot. Seems stupid to buy one at this stage but he's too young for a ready bed still and we can't keep borrowing friends' ones forever.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/02/2010 11:44

Morning all.

Our house should have a cross on the door as we are all full of stinking cold. On the plus side it means ds is sleeping v well, however I can't take advantage of it as I'm up most of the night blowing my nose and coughing

It's no surprise you're feeling blue and wistful Hopefully, be kind to yourself xxx

Stupid comp just lost my post.

Meglet love that poem

We were due to have the swine flu jab before xmas and judging by how many tissues I use and the amount of soothers I eat I maybe should of had it.

Robyn is half and half with us. Dp is great for jumping on and rolling around with. I'm great for cuddles, reading, feeding and consoilng. DP got her first laugh and is good at te4aching her words, she isn't keen on being left alone with anyone but me though

Hello - A has finally recovered from really nasty fluey thing. Very relieved (and glad he had his swine flu jab). Better book his MMR booster today.

Was stupidly stressed as work were running an annual promotion exercise so I was expected to do it (only way I'll get a pay rise in the next 5 years...) Mindnumbingly tedious forms. But done now. House smells of paint as loft and stairs are being glossed. Next is bathroom floor and then carpet!

A has signed 'milk' twice but usually just points. But he can touch his nose when you ask him to - so sweet!

Will be visiting my parents next week and one after as then they're having A overnight. Everyone with kids I mention this to goes "Oh, he'll be fine!" My parents have booked off the next 2 days in their calendar.

becaroo · 05/02/2010 16:00

Hi everyone.

Toby is having his Swine Flu jab on monday if the snot has finally gone - if!!!! - its been 2 bloody weeks!

Toby loves his dad and is sometimes quite clingy to him, but its mummy all the way if he is tired or ill - typical! ds1 was/is just the same, although ds1 is much more of a mummys boy at the moment...for example, this morning when we were doing his "schoolwork" I popped into the utility room to put some clothes in the dryer and when I came back he had drawn a loveheart and written "love you mummy" inside it Bless him.

One thing Toby does which is a bit worrying is think that he is leaving the house whenever anyone who comes to visit leaves Seriously, last night my mum and dad were here and got up to leave and he put his arms out to my dad, dad picked him up and he motioned to his coat and waved bye bye to me!!! He does it with anyone though!!! Is he trying to tell me something?????

hopefully My last mc the blues hit at what would have been the 8 week mark....be kind to yourself x

Sunshinemummy · 05/02/2010 16:29

Becaroo DD doesn't do quite the same thing ut she keeps going and getting her coat, scarf & hat, putting them on and standing by the door crying to go out!

becaroo · 05/02/2010 17:41

We get that too sunshine....not amusing at 7am when its blowing a gale outside...cant wait for spring/summer when I can just open the back door and let them into the back garden to run riot...sigh....seems a long way away....

ninja · 05/02/2010 19:55

becaroo - M does that too, sometimes with complete strangers , flattering isn't it?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 05/02/2010 20:29

tee hee at your parents NC! I remember when I was childess and used to look after my nephew, I would cram in so much I would be knackered by the time I dropped him off!

DS's new trick this week is to make a face and hold his hands up with his palms facing upwards. He tends to do this after he's dropped or thrown something - as if it's a surprise that it has happened

He's doing quite well with body parts. When asked he can point to his nose, ears, eyes, head, hair, tummy, willy, bottom and toes. But he has a complete mental block when it comes to hands and fingers - I have no idea why though.

He also does the getting his coat trick. When he's bored or had enough and wants to go home he goes and finds his coat, then yesterday he pointed to my coat too which I thought was quite clever considering it was in a cupboard full of other peoples coats.

I would like to think he can do these things because he's a boy genius, but I think it mostly comes from being nosey! He can spot an open handbag with food in at a thousand paces - and it usually isn't my bag

Debs75 · 05/02/2010 20:47

Robyn does it with her shoes, she loves shoes (like Mummy) and would wear them all the time. They are the only piece of clothing that she can go get if I ask her to. She is also getting good at pointing to body parts and does a great happy sign which she copied off ds.

When is this rain going to go? We have a month of snow and then it rains almost incessantly. Helped my best friend move this week and it has rained every day. Is very depressing.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 05/02/2010 20:54

Luckily the sun came out here this afternoon, it made a lovely change.

Tbh I loved the snow as it didn't stop me doing what I had to do (a selfish pov I know) but the grey days and the rain are horrid.

However whilst ds and I went out for a walk this afternoon (and ds was actually walking rather than lording it up in the buggy) we saw some new green shoots poking up through the soil. This is GOOD! This means Spring is coming - hurrah!

Debs DD is obsessed with shoes - it was one of her first words . She's currently walking round the house in her red and pink spotty wellies as she decided her teddy bear slippers weren't quite on trend.

Debs75 · 06/02/2010 18:29

Robyn is in bed fast asleep
All his dropping naps means she is shattered over tea time so I put her in her cot to get some quality sleep. She is in a reusable so hoping it lasts until she wakes up.

Has anyone else got an age gap of less then 2 years? Have just found out I am 10 weeks pregnant.
