Sept 08: last year they were cute little bundles that smelt of milk and vanilla, but now they've been replaced with a babyzilla!

A new thread for us as the last one was running low.

I hope the bidding improved - I never bid until the last minute literally.

debs how scary - I hope you've had a nice calm day to recover

digitalgirl · 27/01/2010 21:15

ponymum I think you 'bulk' up the postage then post it via work anyway. Tell us, what was the 'winning' bid?

debs that sounds terrifying. Bet you're so glad you're still breastfeeding.

sunshine yes, I looked up the road on streetmap today and Rye Road is behind the school that's really near the cemetary. Best of luck with school apps and finding a house. And if you need a new kitchen once you're in... Oh, and very very impressive vocabulary from DD, do you think she's particularly advanced for her age or do you think it's having an older sibiling that spurs her on.

Favourite new word here is 'waaaaaait' (something often shouted at him as he attempts to run off mid-nappy change). DS seems to forget words that he was previously fond of using all the time. Don't hear 'cat' nearly as much as we used to. That's normal, no?

ninja · 27/01/2010 21:18

DG completely normal - there's so much else to practise as well.

M has only just started talking again after stopping at about a year when she had quite a few words. Saying that she seems to have just started learning new words every day now.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/01/2010 21:27

digi - ds defo has the word of the day or week. It's all he says for a day or so, then he doesn't say it again for ages.

There are also words that he says once very very cleary, then doesn't say again. Banana being one of them. He has had banana every day since he's been weaned and I always pick it up and say 'banana', however he's only said it once - as clear as crystal. Go figure!

Ponymum - my sister is a prolific seller on Ebay and she swears that auctions ending at about 10pm on Sunday always seem to do best. But in my experience you never can tell. I've sold things on there stupidly cheap and then things have sold that I really didn't think would, and sometimes for silly money.

Debs - how scary, but so glad to hear R is better.

digi The bidding went wild at the end... up to £1.40. And I am such a mug for being totally reasonable with postage too. I am so annoyed as I have been selling a few things lately and getting just a few pounds for each. DH decided to have a go as he has never sold anything on ebay before. He put some really old guitar pedal worth nothing up for sale and end up with about £50 for it.

Sunshinemummy · 27/01/2010 21:52

Debs how scary. Glad she's OK. DS had pneumonia once which was terribly scary and DD has had a few croup attacks which has also been awful. The whole struggling to breath thing is dreadfull frightening.

Digi I hope we get something nice. I know there are good reasons for our doing it but I love my house so it's a real wrench.

Re. words DD definitely has faves that she practices more than others. Her favourite word is definitely shoe though! She's definitely spurred on by her brother - she wants to be just like him hence her daredevil antics in the pool and with climbing and her language. I obviously think she's super-bright too

Sunshinemummy · 27/01/2010 21:53

BTW just put a new pic of them both on profile if anyone wants a look.

ninja · 27/01/2010 22:03

lovely photos, they're gorgeous!

lollipopmother · 27/01/2010 22:33

Debs - Poor Robyn, and poor you, how scary , glad that it was all sorted out.

DD isn't saying any obvious words really, she says Mummy, Daddy and bye very clearly, and eyes but that's it. Are the babies that are talking ahead, or is DD slow??

Meglet · 27/01/2010 22:52

another attempt by me to get myself back on here, I think I have 2 weeks to catch up on .

been signed off sick with stress / depression for a couple of weeks but am hoping to get back to normal next week. DC's are fine, although we've just had a D+V bug. They should be seeing XP at the contact centre in the middle of february .

lollipop DD isn't saying much, but she is saying more sounds IYSWIM. So words will happen eventually.

CarrieBo · 27/01/2010 22:57

lolli Ds says a reasonable amount but hasn't really mastered walking and certainly isn't climbing or jumping. He has good fine motor skills and is a dab hand with kids k'nex, just one of life's thinkers I reckon. They're all different, don't worry!

meglet and

Sunshinemummy · 28/01/2010 09:17

I really think DD's stuff is all because she has a big brother that she's desparate to be with and copy. Although they are pretty similar in the way they've developed.

New word this morning pointing at feet was 'toes'. She surprises us every day.

ninja · 28/01/2010 14:56

lolli are you selling your large ittis? I saw that you mentioned that you weren't using them any more.

M has just started copying so many words and I noticed the same with DD1. I think it's around the 18 month mark, saying that my friend's second is nearly one and hardly talking and you couldn't stop her first. it's all normal and just varies so much between children. It seems to have no indication of where they're up to in the end.

Sunshinemummy · 28/01/2010 15:01

That's true they all reach the same point eventually.

mamamuffin · 28/01/2010 15:30

Scary debs How is he today? No words hear either and I mean none. Oh well, Ill enjoy the peace while it lasts! Two sleeps till dubii {grin]

notcitrus · 28/01/2010 16:22

Debs Poor you and R! Hope you're all getting over that.
A has been very poorly with flu-like thing but not in a scary way, just incredibly sorry for himself and feverish. His temp was down to 38 this morning so nursery said might as well bring him in - they called to say he was being fretful and and still not eating, but now he's had paracetamol and long nap. I'll get him in a little bit - he gave me the same lurgy so I'm off sick today, so at least I got a lie-in with him at nursery.

Yesterday was a bit emotional between dealing with A - I mentioned my friends a while back whose child was in ICU yet again, and there have been so many times when everyone's been expecting the worst. He had his 3rd birthday and is a bright spark who loves nursery (he has some disabilities but they're now planning school for him which they never dared dream of). So that was fantastic news. But bf's dad died of cancer - not unexpected and he was lucid to the end, but I'll miss him.

A still won't say anything consistently, but clearly understands quite a lot and every now and then comes out with a word in context like 'train'. Although with my crap hearing I worry he's saying words that I'm not understanding - will ask nursery. Sane HV said to look for two-word phrases by 2nd birthday and not worry if they have almost no words a couple months before that. A is clearly putting his efforts into physical manipulation skills insteead.

Nunhead side of Peckham is nice - I'm in Streatham so go through it to SIL in Greenwich a lot.

splishsplosh · 28/01/2010 22:02

Debs - what a horrible scary time you've had - so glad R is doing better now

School application - I've applied near my old home, just in case I do go back there, but never did get a chance to visit the schools, so had to go on things I'd heard, results, how many people applied for places last year - some schools had 40 applications for 60 places, others had 200 for 30 places -you can see the ones no one wants! Otherwise I have no idea where I'll be living, so can't do anything else. If I don't go home, I have to pick somewhere to move to... it's surprisingly hard to just pick somewhere to live. I've got used to living in a peaceful, more rural, near the sea type location, as opposed to a busy London borough. But I do miss a more multi cultural environment for the dc.

dd2 still not walking - is still doing her musketeer crawl - upright on 1 knee, she has worn through countless trouser knees, as only rubs 1 knee.

She is very vocal though - much of the time sounds like speaking some kind of Eastern European, consonant based type language, but has quite a few words:
hiya, bye bye, nigh nigh (for night night), moo (for what does a cow say) boo, beya (her sister Isabella), shoes, flower, shower, nose, eyes, hair, teeth, mummy (said insistently, loudly, endlessly, and used to demand anything with an autocratic point) cheese, (ba)nana, pasta, door, birdie, yesh, no, poo poo, beh ba (for belly button) baby, and various people's names, with differing accuracy & possibly a few more I can't think of off hand

Meglet · 28/01/2010 22:11

debs Poor R and what a scary experience for you . Very pleased everything is ok now.

Debs75 · 28/01/2010 22:38

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. She is doing a lot better, she even managed a 10 hour sleep last night. Being cranky tonight so I think she is almost back to normal.

Sunshinemummy · 29/01/2010 09:34

DD surprised me again this morning. She picked up one of those books that have pictures of everyday things and went through it pointing things out to me and saying the word - ball, star, quack quack, shoe, glove etc. She didn't know lamp and called a horser a quack quack but hey!

Debs75 · 29/01/2010 15:48

Robyn is also saying more words, and signing a lot as well. Her favourite is happy and bath. If we point something out to her and say it she copies us, ie shoe, car, cat and dog. She is very chatty as well and often sitsd in the car singing to herself.
After being cranky last night she slept for 8 straight hours! That's 2 nights on the trot.

Sunshinemummy · 29/01/2010 16:51

Debs congrats on the sleeping!

DD also sings to herself a lot. She loves a song that DS sung in his nativity about the baby Jesus. Her other faves are twinkle twinkle and row row your boat.

mamamuffin · 29/01/2010 17:19

ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh, no words still I want to hear his voice now. He does not even babble much.
Dubi tomorrow have a good week catch up when I return. xx

becaroo · 29/01/2010 17:40

Bookmarking.

Toby ill all week with a cold and is cutting about 4 teeth so its been a bit miserable.

Lets see if he can go without waking every 30 mins tonight!?

Meglet · 29/01/2010 20:15

I think DD said 'giraffe' when we read Dear Zoo earlier, although it sounded like 'ja-ja'. I know that book off by heart now .
