I thought you were going to be an SAHM neenz? I can't keep up!

Deb, hope the viewing goes well. I'm dreading having to tidy up every day for viewings - clearing away A's plastic tat toys while he's still playing with them will be a challenge!

neenz · 20/02/2010 14:39

lol Sponge, I know . I change my mind every week! I was planning to quit cos of the cost of 3 in childcare but now with these new hours I only need half a day's childcare so will cost the same as what I pay now.

And I am enjoying the new hours so much it doesn't feel like work at all . Every time I thought of leaving it just felt wrong because I have a permanent contract there and apparently they are not giving anybody a permanent contract ever again - just using casual staff . How they expect to run magazines/newspapers that way I don't know.

I'll probabl change my mind next week

Sounds like a nightmare Deb! Hope the viewing goes well tho, and the party. I am already thinking about the twins' birthday - only 2.5mths now away

spongebrainbigpants · 21/02/2010 08:05

It's so hard to know what to do isn't it - I'm starting to enjoy being at home now, and a lot of my friends are either pg with No 2 or ttc so I'm starting to have wobbles about going back. But then I'm not sure giving up a public sector job which could potentially have great school hours in the future, would be such a smart move right now.

Really gutted I missed the meet up on Friday - but I think tedi and spider would not have appreciated me being there! I had a stinking cold and A spent the afternoon/eve of Friday throwing up so we'd have shared some lovely bugs . Hope we can do it at Easter instead? (meet up that is not share bugs!)

Anyway, off to Surbiton today to meet up with some friends - really looking forward to it. We've spent most weekends since M was born playing sleep tag and I'm soooo bored of being indoors, so we've made a resolution to be more active at the weekends and try and work round A's long afternoon naps. So we're going for a walk by the Thames which I'm really looking forward to .

Hi to everyone else.

SpiderWilliam · 21/02/2010 08:25

Sponge we were sorry to miss you too. Hope that the trip to Surbtiton provides a good change of scenery.

Nothing to report here. A quiet day yesterday. I got a sleep in the afternoon which was my highlight.

We are having ishoos with the highchair all of a sudden. P will only consent to go in it about half the time. Weird though as sometimes he is hanging on it desperate to go in, and other times he has the most almighty tantrum even though he has said that he is hungry. He can manage on a normal chair, but he is a bit low for seeing his food, and sometimes keels off the side. We have got this far without a booster seat. Do I need to buy one now? I suspect that he has just reached a new stage of being a toddler and has worked out that he can determine a little more of his destiny.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 21/02/2010 09:35

Ooh, I'm going to Surbiton next weekend to visit friends! Sponge do your friends have kids? Any insight into toddler friendly Surbiton would be welcome!

Spider S suddenly refused a highchair a while ago and nothing could tempt him into it. He won't go in a booster chair either now which is a real PITA. We have a little toddler table and chairs and he usually sits at that though will usually come to sit on our knee for a while to steal food from our plates!

SpiderWilliam · 21/02/2010 12:44

Goddess well at least we aren't unique then. Thanks.

Who would have thought that Surbiton would turn out to be the centre of the universe.

PiggyPenguin · 21/02/2010 13:40

J sits on my knee at the table, and has done since he was six months. Normally he eats with the other two so I'm not eating anyway and it isn't a problem. Plus, he doesn't like to touch food with his hands (or needs thenm cleaning straight afterwards) so I still need to help him out a lot.

He has an Ikea plastic cup (you know, the ones in a pack of 6 for about the pound?)of milk sucked through a straw at 9.00, naptime and bedtime. If he's feeling milky, then there might be another half at bedtime. I only breastfeed during the night now, and usually thats only once.

This means I am (just) back in my normal bras - I had forgotten how uncomfortable an underwired bra can be! Sadly I need the uplift though, bf means small but droopy in this house

poppy34 · 21/02/2010 17:21

Quick post to mark spot say congrats to purée and sympathise re the high chair refuser here

abdnhiker · 21/02/2010 19:31

hi everyone - hope the weekends were good...

essie have added you as a friend on ravelry - I just logged on now. (and yes, I know you've changed your nickname but this is still how I think of you - actually it's what we called you when I met up with A and UDC in London (no, we didn't say anything about you ... no need for ears burning..)).

ktpie · 21/02/2010 20:07

Quick hello from me, Essie I've just been on Ravelry and added you as well.

We're doing fine, bit tired, managed a whole week on my own last week, this week DH has Wednesday off, so I'm looking forward to that.

I can't really remember what everyone has been saying, although I have been reading.

J sometimes fights about going in his chair but I'm a big meany and make him sit in it.

spongebrainbigpants · 21/02/2010 20:48

spider, would you get a booster to fit your super funky chairs? A has been in a booster for months rather than a high chair and loves it.

Goddess, no they don't have kids sorry! Just had lunch in their flat and then went for a very long walk - my pelvis is bloody killing me now .

neenz · 21/02/2010 21:17

E refuses her high chair sometimes, but its usually when she is just not hungry. We have a little table and chairs from IKEA too which are good tho they don't eat there yet (I am scared of the mess). They like to have their bedtime milk sat at the kitchen table.

Spider if P doesn't like the highchair he might hate the booster too - my two are not keen on the booster seats. You could just let him go hungry if he won't go in the highchair, that's what I did when E refused her bib [cruel]. She soon started wearing the bib again!

T is so funny at the moment - whenever E puts shapes in the shape sorter he shouts 'good boy!' cos that's what we say to him when he does it

My SIL looked shattered today - she is 11wks pg with twins and has a 20mo who still doesn't sleep through the night. She was up for two hours with him last night and that's quite common. She works four days a week too. She doesn't believe in cc and has never left him to cry, but I think she is reaching the end of her reserves after 18m of no sleep and now a twin pregnancy. I know how tired I have felt with this pregnancy so I really feel for her.

PenguinNZ · 22/02/2010 09:21

Opps this fell off my threads. Thank you all for the milk/bottle responses.

No highchair since we moved here (Nov). Although today I was seriously considering getting one as R would just not stay at the table....

Amberc · 22/02/2010 13:01

Hi all - can't believe I fell off the thread! Essie have I missed you completely now (your London window?). I spent all afternoon at the hospital on Friday as I was in agony. Don't know what it was and they just couldn't find anything but thankfully it has subsided although I still have to have 2 paracetamols 3 times a day and a hotwater bottle . So the long and short of it is that I couldn't have come or hosted it after all!

I am now on a 1ww and have to do my test on Monday. I can't remember if I told you I had a little picture of my embryo just like when you go for a scan. I look at it every day in hope but the stats are only 29% for a pregnancy after embry transfer at the best of times. Fingers crossed though.

Been reading the threads of the day about early wakings. Luke is doing that. Between 5-5.30. Any ideas?

poppy34 · 22/02/2010 13:15

Amber poor you - are you feeling better today? And fingers crossed re 1ww -29% still a chAnce. Re waking have you tried the wake to sleep thing they talk about?

Penguin we still have morning and evening bottles here - dropped day bottles but e won't have milk out of anything else so I am relaxed as in scheme of things is small issue.

Sorry Been rubbish re posting and e had cold so lots of evenings dealing with restless child. Re results still doing more tests but chances of pregnancy at moment unassisted very low . Will maybe know more If tests show reason for low sperm count(it's odd as no previous issue) but as time goes on I am going off idea of no 2 as is dh and if it involves possible surgery for him (with no guarantee of success) am not sure it is worth it. Also if ivf is the Optiom I am not sure I am as brave as sponge or amber To go ahead. However just to say no more kids is a big step although I am less broody than I was some months ago.

poppy34 · 22/02/2010 13:17

Oh and any tips on holiday nursery use - see Here Ski crèche tips

abdnhiker · 22/02/2010 15:50

amber, poppy we did the wake to sleep thing with DS1 when we were up with Fraser anyways and it worked - but DS1 was over two...

poppy I'm getting less broody too - which is a very good thing in my DH's opinion... It must be hard emotionally to be waiting for all these test results though - I'm thinking about you.

Amber what a crap day on Friday... sorry you're having such a horrid time. Fingers still crossed...

abdnhiker · 22/02/2010 15:56

oh and does anyone else find the village thread a bit odd? I was going to post on it but then it just seemed like a weird way of showing off. Sort of a G&T thread for communities...

poppy34 · 22/02/2010 17:01

No not seen that one ah but there are some
odd threads even by mumsnet stAndards
at the moment - bf Nazis, the one about a petition to give ff by prescrption (I mean why even post as it's just like lighting a match by petrol and running off on here), almost any of the political ones...

poppy34 · 22/02/2010 17:04

Or the one about someone asking what age should kids recognize letters which might as well be titled young g and t or I am a smug parent

Amberc · 22/02/2010 17:06

Abdn - What's the village thread?

Poppy - have you ever considered adoption? I know we have not even vaguely thought about it yet but I know we could give a child such a wonderful life but the idea terrifies me!

Thanks for the positive thoughts. I am not getting too excited but i have the same chance as anyone else - maybe more than some as I have carried a child before. We'll see and of course you will be the first to know!!

poppy34 · 22/02/2010 18:06

Yes pre edie we did (or I did) but nicks age and marital history tends to count against us .

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 22/02/2010 18:13

Is it the one about whether or not you live in a proper village? I wanted to post that no, I live in a city with a castle, restaurants, endless child friendy activities/locations, museums, john lewis, AND lovely parks, fishmogers, local bakeries AND an award winning butcher . I didn't though. Disclaimer: I don't think city living is better than rural village life, just different!

Had a terrible day with S today so feeling a bit worn out and grumpy

PiggyPenguin · 22/02/2010 18:52

Bugger. Have just typed huge post and then accidently deleted it

In brief - sod villages, historic market towns are best

I finally figured out how to do those ticker things where you hover over someone's name and get a witty remark, only to realise I have no witty/pithy or even vaguely amusing thing to put in there.

I have hurt my wrist (old repetitive strain thing playing up) and this morning snagged my toe in ds1's cover and then rammed it into the floor. It is still throbbing and I am starting to wonder if it is broken. So, brain/wrist/toe - all broken, hopefully not irreparably.

TediBersMorRad · 22/02/2010 20:00

Back later to actually post but need a stiff drink for no real reason. (Join me, Sybil - sounds like you have a real reason!)
