Yes that is very odd that they wouldn't be using it already. Not that a school with ICT is necessarily better than a school without. There are most certainly cases where this holds true, however it would put me off.

50ftQueenie · 25/01/2010 13:26

Star - The book often says you can use ground almonds (which are easy to find in the supermarket) instead of other nuts if you don't have a food processor. Is it a hand blender you have? Some have an attachment that you can use to blitz nuts up in. You are getting obsessed with cake! Yay!

CSWS - We only had two schools to choose from as the rest in the area are terrible. We went for the one that felt the best. It is smaller than the other school so felt more friendly for DS. The other school's ofsted reports were ever so slightly better but not enough to be a real deciding factor. DS's school has a G&T program but as far as I am aware they don't actually do anything about it! One boy in DS's class is so far advanced that he has to get his reading books from the upper junior library but he's not getting any additional classes or additional work.

In fact the school seems to be pretty crap at supporting the more able children in the school. They are very much focused on supporting the less able. Obviously that is important but it seems to mean that the more academic children are left to flounder. They seem to think that those who have academic ability also posses the maturity to self-motivate & work on their own. Poor DS is one of the youngest in the class and the only one on the top table who hasn't yet turned 7. There is no way he is mature enough to work under his own steam, so he just gets told off and threatened with detention instead. The bottom two groups are the only ones to get any attention from either the TA or the teacher herself & we just get moaned at that DS is slow with his work. Strange how he manages to get it finished when she is there toshout at 'motivate' him.

Ronshar - It isn't the CPS who call people for jury duty, it's the court service. The CPS would be happy to have trials without the dithering jury making incorrect decisions and letting guilty people go. I did enjoy your school rant.

Off to catch-up on everyone else's news.

oh good I have crushed almonds. Good for you having your feet up, pistachio!!

My friend is telling me that Q has horrid nappy rash today Poor little guy!! His bum was starting to get red this weekend and was red this morning, but nothing bad. But his poos have been getting horrid and he's definitely getting some teeth. I don't think she believes me that it's teething!!

He's eaten nothing out of the ordinary and not had oranges since the last acidic poo incident. I think she thinks I blame everything on teething now because when he was smaller and he'd be fussy I'd say, probably teething... ugh. oh well.

We had confirmation that Ds2 has a place at the same Infant school as DS1 - so that's good! He's very excited and ready to go even though he's a spring baby so not even 4 yet. I dread to think how ready all our babies will be with their October birthdays by the time it's their turn.
My neighbour has twins with 7th sept birthdays - she says it's been a very long year!

They'll go the September AFTER they turn 4, so they'll be nearly 5 (going on 15 I suspect!)
So is that the same as as you after all?

KSal · 25/01/2010 16:31

I have ice and lemon at the ready... did someone mention G&T?

I prefer lime with my G&T actually

50ftQueenie · 25/01/2010 17:22

I much prefer that type of G&T KSal!

There is never an inappropriate time for a G&T Pepper

Q will go in September before he is 4 to PreK (which is your "reception") then he will go to kindergarten when he is nearly 5 (which is your "year 1"). Unless he's not ready, then I'll keep him back for the next year. I am an October baby and was absolutely fine with this. Got straight A's all the way through school and university. I was irritated by getting my driving license later as I turned 16 later than others.

StarExpat · 25/01/2010 20:26

I put too much flour in the pistachio cake I was too lazy to look up the grams to cups conversion so I just guessed. Idiot. it would have been so nice....

50ftQueenie · 25/01/2010 20:37

Oh my goodness I am unreasonably excited! Annabel Karmel is on being grilled about how rubbish her ready meals are!!!! Yay yay yay! She not a qualified dietician and is therefore NOT an expert.

I know, pistachio!! I had everything else exactly right, just couldn't remember the grams conversion of flour, so I eyed it... and did it wrong! ugh! It's dense and a bit dry, but I've made a fatty sweet icing and it has made it a bit more moist Is yours really moist?

50ftQueenie · 25/01/2010 20:42

Oh I'm salivating it's so good!

StarExpat · 25/01/2010 20:43

Are her ready meals rubbish? I fed one to Q on 2 occasions - he didn't like it much the first time but another day he liked it a lot.

Q still wants those ellas pouches... but he now just sucks the stuff out of them like it's a smoothie but it's a good way of ensuring he's getting enough veg each day I guess... no harm, right?

ronshar · 25/01/2010 20:43

Watching Panorama. Annabel Karmel is a witch.

aubergenie · 25/01/2010 20:46

Ha ha! 50ft - I'm watching that too.

50ftQueenie · 25/01/2010 20:47

Too much salt and added sugar. Q will be ok as he mostly gets your hyper-healthy home-cooked food so the odd one won't affect him. However people who feed their children the ready meals all the time because they trust her name will be potentially giving them way too much salt. I aim to give M her five a day & fruit puree would count. M only drinks water at the moment (unless she decides to steal her brother's orange juice).
