Thanks Pat. Canal towpath wouldn't be good with my nutty border collie cross, she'd be in the canal faster than a rat up a drainpipe and then wouldn't be able to get out again - yes she's that thick!
Its very kind of you to offer them a nap at your house, but they'll be fine in the car. They are well travelled and used to being crated while we are out and about. The lurcher only needs a quick blast at full speed and he'll sleep for the rest of the day. The stoopid collie cross never gets tired out, but will be a lot calmer after a good run and happy enough to sleep for a couple of hours.
Nice to know I'm not the only one with a vampire baby. I can't believe how much more it hurts now she's got a top tooth as well as the bottom incisors.
MissJ, glad N is feeling a bit better. Ds2 is back on abs today after old eye problem recurred. He hasn't had it for over a year now, so its a bit weird how its suddenly flared up.
Dh took our old lady dog to the vets this eveing only to be given another different opinion by yet another vet at the practice.
Vet 1 feels it if were her dog she would just go the palliative route as she's an old dog and happy enough in herself and her pain due to inflammation etc can be managed with drugs for the time being.
Vet 2, wants to operate, but not radically. Which means it will just grow back twice as fast (exactly what happened last time not to mention she didn't handle the post-op recovery well at all).
Vet 3 (tonight) wants to operate and remove half the jaw bone stating that he reckons she has a good few years left and is most likely in considerable discomfort. If it was his dog he'd definitely go for the op etc etc. (Problem being Wheatens are sensitive to anaesthetic and she is already old and infirm so that increases the risk of her having an op of any sort.) He also failed to take into account the signs that Vet1 attributed to probably 'other serious health problems' and the difficulty she had getting over the last op, which was over 3 years ago now.
I think we have to go the palliative route to be honest, as quite apart from the fact we feel she probably wouldn't cope well with surgery, we can't afford a huge operation which could cost thousands of pounds. That doesn't solve the problem of the recurrent tissue infections she keeps getting which make her stink to high heaven, don't respond properly to abs and make our whole house smell awful so that we can't have any visitors.
I feel so we don't seem to be able to do right for doing wrong with her.
