Just thought that I would get this started before the ante-natal thread gets filled up, not that I've had much time to post since I had DS but others might be able to multi-task better than I can!

Tried the changing bag under bum technique today (whilst sitting on floor) and it worked quite well and nice to have another option so thank you for that!

Kingsroadie, also hope all went well for you...

It's DS's 3rd birthday today and we've had a lovely day

Went to the Sea Life Center in Birmingham which DS loved and then over to Pizza Express for lunch. Got sat right in the middle of the blooming restaurant, right in front of the kitchen and I knew Catherine would want feeding as she'd been asleep all the way round the SLC so I was a bit nervous. Sure enough she woke up just before the starters arrived. But it all went fine. I latched her on and she fed beautifully. Waiter came to bring our starters and comented on the tiny baby but I don't think he noticed I was feeding. DH got back from the loo with DS and even he didn't notice!! He said he thought I was just cuddling her. Fed her while eating my dough balls then headed off to baby changing to change her nappy and reapply breast pads - I'm using lilypadz which stick to your boob and cannot be applied subtley. So proud of myself

Noticed another woman sat next to the baby chaging room feeding too so it seems to be quite a feeding freindly place.

Lovely waiter even brought DS some ice cream and chocolate brownie with a candle in for desert, he was so excited

Such a lovely day. Bit sad it's over.

A breakthrough today ... I think.

DD has been avidly trying to get her thumb for a few days. (I was a proper thumb sucker... until my teens - but not in public )

DD has until now been attempting to get her whole fist in her mouth, causing lots of drooling - really making me think of teeth but can't see anything - but no luck. Again today she was chomping/drooling away loads and really thinking about what she was trying to do, I could see it in her eyes, and then Eureka... the force of her suction pulled the unwitting thumb in to her mouth and she was away.

Not sure how I feel about this - she hasn't had a dummy/pacifier before today. Certainly in the future it would be easier to train her off a dummy as you can take it away. But it was so cute to watch!

sparklycheerymummy · 17/03/2010 22:18

is blw basically just finger foods???? i wont be waiting till much past 17 weeks i'm afraid as ds is already 18lb6oz..... cant keep bf without more for him!!! will do puree with 'finger foods' as i feel appropriate..... at 17 weeks i cant imagine letting him loose with whole chunks of food..... but will encourage lumps as soon as pos and will mash rather than puree......dd was pureed at first and she is a dream to feed now!!! she eats anything!!!

LaDiDaDi · 17/03/2010 22:18

Pleased that you had a lovely day for your ds's bday GS. Sounds fab!

Well done to Holly's dd for finding her thumb.

Lee36 - As far as I've read, they don't need to be able to sit up entirely unaided, but can sit up straight with support (i.e. the sides of the highchair), hold their head well and don't slump over in the way that small babies would. Don't know if that makes much sense

GS - That day sounds lovely

I'm currently propping my eyes open with matchsticks after another bad night, DS fed every hour from 1 I'm pretty sure it's a growth spurt... either the 3 month one late or the 4 month one early! I'm hoping it's the 4 month one as I can't imagine it getting much worse than this

(Kate scuttles off to resurrect the growth spurt support thread on the feeding topic)

GoldenSnitch · 18/03/2010 10:34

Just had Catherine weighed.

She's now 9lbs 7oz which is great for her as it means she's sticking to her line just under the 9th percentile perfectly.

I do know at least 2 children who were almost that at birth though and she's 13 weeks today!

Tillyscoutsmum · 18/03/2010 10:50

Kate - any matchsticks for me as well please. DS was hourly from 2.30 am . I think ours is the 3 month growth spurt or perhaps the fact he went through 4 outfits yesterday due to explosive poos

GoldenSnitch · 18/03/2010 16:16

Have decorated DS's Birthday cake now ready for his party with his friends tomorrow.

It looks fab if I do say so myself ;)

Then got family down on Saturday to see him.

Looking forward to the year his birthday is on a weekend so I can do it all in one day!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/03/2010 16:50

Snitch you should upload a pic of the cake on your profile for us to see!
Glad you had a good time at SLC, Jake absolutely loves it there.

I think Elizabeth is also going through a bit of a growth spurt, feeding more often and sleeping alot during the day. She is getting so big now. I was gutted today because I found a gorgeous little dress in a charity shop but it was too small!

1petshortofazoo · 18/03/2010 17:26

Regan went for him 2nd lot of injections today, he was so brave and didnt cry until the nurse felt she should wiggle the 2nd needle around as she was pulling it out and then he sobbed all is fine now

regan has gone 7-6.30 without a feed for 5 nights now!! he still wakes up a few times but i just give him his dummy and he is fine.

as to weaning i will wait until he starts wanting a feed in the night again and i will make purees and give finger food when i think he's ready when we are eating.

hope the op went well kings

has anyone got anything planned for the eater holidays?

HollyHo · 18/03/2010 17:45

Just had DD weighed and measured too. 14+1 weeks and now is 13 pounds 12 ounces and 59.5 cms! Officially out of all of her 0-3 month clothes. From the 2nd centile at birth to the 60th something. She was born at 38+1 by CS due to placenta praevia, her growth rate leads me to believe my placenta maybe wasn't giving her all she needed in the womb and/or my milk is good stuff!

GoldenSnitch · 18/03/2010 17:50

I put a pic up for you ABF.

I didn't make the cake, just decorated it. The cake is from Costco.

Good work HollyHo!

Any news from Kings?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/03/2010 17:54

Snitch the cake is amazing! Well done!

1petshortofazoo · 18/03/2010 18:03

that cake is fab! I really want some of that icing yummy

HollyHo · 18/03/2010 18:35

That icing is fantastic GS! You obviously have a Costco near you? I love that place! Your DS sounds like he is having a great birthday week, and Catherine sounds adorable too - it's great she's following her centile line. I am hoping we've gotten to where DD 'should' have been and will follow the line we are on now.

Kingsroadie · 18/03/2010 18:52

Hello everyone!

Am back in the land of the living - sort of. Operation went quite well - her hip was completely "out" by a long way apparently, and there is a very small safe zone in which it needs to stay to ensure it "relocates" itself. And the surgeon had to cut her adductor tendon too as it was very tight and keeping her hip in a bad position. So she has her cast on - bright pink which looks very sweet!

Seeing her put to sleep and holding her was one of the most upsetting things ever - it was like the gas was poisoning her and she suddenly went very limp and heavy and her eyes rolled back in her head. I got out of the theatre and then lost it and cried a lot. She was crying by the time she was put to sleep too as she had lasted so well without food but they were half an hour late so the last 15 mins she was crying.

She then as starving, looked awful and crying when she woke up - fed her and she sort of went to sleep on me. She then woke up every 30 seconds by startling herself and then screaming. This pretty much went on all night. I was so glad we were in a private hospital with our own ensuite room etc. My husband was going to stay but I sent him home (we only live 5 mins walk away) as he is so so busy at work - so had to do the night by myself and barely got any sleep. He got up at 6am and came back to see us but then had to go to work as he had so much to do - he then didn't come home until 11pm.

Luckily my father was with me all day - it was possibly the worst day of my life - she was so so upset and screamed most of the day - getting used to the cast and overtired. Got home from hospital at about 14:30 and she fell asleep at 5pm, then I woke her at 7 for food and changing and then again at 11 but she barely ate. So she woke at 2am for food, again at 3:40 scared and again at 5:10 then slept til 7:45.

Anyway, she had a much better day today and smiled and laughed too which was lovely. She must be getting used to it. Fingers crossed she gets better and better!

HollyHo · 18/03/2010 19:08

Hi Kingsroadie,
Lovely to hear from you. You are really very brave. Your post gave me tears in my eyes when I read what you had to go through with the anaesthetic and seeing your DD scared. I am glad you had your Father with you as support on that first day and that she had a better day today. Let's hope for a fast recovery.

Not sure what else to write wanted you to know I had been thinking of you and will continue to send mental energy.

anniebigpants · 18/03/2010 19:55

Kingsroadie- I too think you are very brave, and i had tears in my eyes reading your post. Give your gorgeous girl a big kiss from me, shes been through so much, but she is so lucky to have a lovely brave mummy looking after her. Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight. X

legscrossed · 18/03/2010 20:32

Kings
my gut says the worst is over and hopefully your LO is on the road to recovery.

GoldenSnitch · 18/03/2010 21:02

You're so brave Kings! I got a shudder when I read the bit about her eyes rolling back and her going limp - that sounds awful. I'd have fallen to pieces I think.

I so hope she feels better soon.

Cake was quite easy to do. It's just shapes cut out of coloured icing then the dodgy joins covered up by writing icing. I think it probably looks better in photos than in real life. Looking forward to eating it - Costco cakes are yummy. Will have to find out a picture of last years attempt. I had much more time then...

LaDiDaDi · 18/03/2010 23:39

Fantastic cake GS, looks really good.

Kings, so pleased that you dd's op is over and that she is starting to feel a little better/happier in her cast.

Going to try to remember to get ds weighed tomorrow. I'm going to guess at 11lb 6oz, will post the actual weight tomorrow.

OP posts:
LifeOfKate · 19/03/2010 08:11

Kings - you are definitely brave, it must be so difficult to go through that, I also nearly cried at your post. I hope she's getting more used to it today and is a happy little girl

We're away for the weekend, leaving in an hour if I can get myself in gear! First time away from home overnight, so that will be interesting! See you all next week!

Claire236 · 19/03/2010 10:23

kings - another one with tears over here. I remember very clearly feeling exactly how you described when ds1 had his anaesthetic. Didn't mention it beforehand as I thought it might make you even more worried. Hope Persephone is back to being your happy, smiley girl - she sounds lovely.

Kate - hope you enjoy your weekend.

Can't believe how quick our babies are growing. ds2 is currently sitting beside me on the sofa watching American Idol & gurgling away. Just ordered him a Bumbo seat as a friend of ours has got one which he loves sitting in as he seems to prefer sitting up properly rather than the slightly reclined position of his bouncy chair. Quite worried he might blow a hole in my new sofa judging by the noise (not to mention smell) coming from his bottom.

LaDiDaDi · 19/03/2010 10:30

Haha Claire, I get worried when we are out that people will think that the noise is coming from my bottom and not ds's as it's soo loud .

Ds was 11lb 1oz today, a little disappinted as my estimate was quite far out.

Really windy here today, though nice and sunny, a good washing/drying day [saddo emoticon]. Not sure what I'll do this afternoon, I think it's too windy for the park but I don't want to be stuck indoors either.
