Just thought that I would get this started before the ante-natal thread gets filled up, not that I've had much time to post since I had DS but others might be able to multi-task better than I can!

im peed off, just got lizzybeth settled in arms, she'd finally dropped off when dh said oh you can put her down now and do some tidying up (in his defence to that he was about to go asda for the big food shop) i did it even though i knew she would wake up because dh would moan that the place needed tidying, so what happens, i put her down she starts screaming. Grrrr.
I need a sling ladies, which ones do you lot recommend? Im looking at a website for one called Kari Me is that any good?

Oh are any of your little ones eyes changing colour yet? Lizzys still seem to be blue (like mine) but DH's are very dark brown (he's mediteranean) so they will more than likely change!

LaDiDaDi · 23/01/2010 18:13

ABF, I have two slings

this one that I also used a lot for dd and is very easy to use with a small baby but I did get a sore shoulder after using it for a longer period eg walk to the shops and back. I love it for popping in and out of the car and not having to hump the car seat in and out.

and

www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10751&langId=-1&p roductId=51346&source=froogle&cmmmc=Froogle--Shopping%20Sites--CPC--Froogle this one that a friend gave me. You should be able to bf handfree in this one, can't remember if you bf or ff, and I've managed it once whilst out and about but to change breasts you need to take the baby out and re thread the straps of the sling, it's very comfy but a bit more faffy in general that the coorie. I'd also say that I found the straps far too long, my mum has had to chop 6in off each strap so that I wasn't tripping on the ends. There is only one size so I'm guessing it's made to fit big men as well as mums though I'm not short (5 5) but I am slim (8).

I get loads of lovely comments when I'm using my slings .

Ds;s eyes are still blue but dd's took ages to change from blue to their current greyish colour.

I have a Moby Wrap (which I'm told is very much like the Kai Me) and it's fab. I wore it when we went out shopping today and Catherine stayed cosy and fast asleep for the whole trip. She was even snoring

It's masses more comfortable than the Baby Bjorn I had with DS. That thing used to give me the most awful bad back even when he was tiny!

Must remember to go and get some of that Protect and Perfect moisturiser. My skin is really dry at the moment and I'm using up my current stuff like it's going out of fashion because my skin is so uncomfortable!

No change in eye colour here yet. Am expecting Catherine's to go green like mine, DH's and DS's. Still waiting for a first smile here too. I'm sure DS had grinned by now!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 23/01/2010 18:25

Oh we've had the first smile last week.

So these slings that youve both recommended, what are the straps like that go round the back? Are they skinny with padding? Because I have scoliosis and one shoulder blade sticks out alot more than the other so makes things like that really uncomfortable!

GoldenSnitch · 23/01/2010 18:31

No straps on a Moby Wrap it's just a long length of fabric that you wrap round you (easy, I can do it without the instructions after the second attempt) and pop the baby in. My friend when recommending it said that it had been the best wrap for her because you can spread the fabric out over your shoulders to spread the weight wider and make carrying more comfortable.

You can also feed in the Moby - I managed it yesterday - but you still have to support the head.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 23/01/2010 18:32

Yes! thats exactly the sort of thing I need, like a long piece of fabric, perfect, thank you!

GoldenSnitch · 23/01/2010 18:53

I got mine from ebay - was about £35

covycrump · 24/01/2010 00:31

I'm using a Kari-Me wrap. I do like it, but find it makes my lower back a bit achey after an hour or so if I'm up on the whole time. Maybe a bit of experimenting with spreading the fabric would relieve it. Snowy seems to like being in it though, and after a few growls for a minute each time I put him in, drops off very quickly and sleeps happily for a couple of hours.

A dummy might well b the way forward for Snowy's sleep. DP and I have agreed to probably give it a go - just need to choose which one now. The range out there is baffling!

Moosy · 24/01/2010 03:43

I have a kari me and it's great, I've managed to feed her in it handsfree while walking round sainsburys I put it on before I leave home then just pop her in when we get there.

Newbeginning1 · 24/01/2010 09:16

Morning everyone.

I didnt even realise this group was on here, yes i am that cool!!

I'm a first time mum to my DS born on boxing day and im going it alone. An advice about sleeping would be appreciated or just to hear that it's not just me that has a velcro baby!!

x

onionlove · 24/01/2010 11:17

hi everyone

I'm also a first time Mum to DS born on 23 December. I also have just found this thread too i also have a velcro baby and would love some advice about sleeping x

AmazingBouncingFerret · 24/01/2010 14:54

I have a velcro baby, hence why im picking brains for slings, cant see my TV screen properly for dust, so desperately need to get something done!!
ATM she is quite content to sit in the crook of my knee whilst I balance the laptop on the arm of the sofa and I can then mumsnet can happily. (oh its a hard life...)

Sleep I cant help with, she goes every 4 hours and settles right back which im more than happy with!!

mwncigirl · 24/01/2010 20:52

Hello all, I have a Kari-me and love it, Johnny sleeps well in it and keeps nice and warm and snug.

We're not doing so well with sleeping either, DS spends the night on my chest which I know is going to cause problems at some point soon, but at the moment I can feed him sitting up and then just lay back and we both sleep. If I put him back in his moses basket it wakes us both up. He's feeding between 1 1/2 to 3 hours through the night..... exhausting! I'm hoping its just because he's still very young.... but yes, alas, he's a velcro baby!!!

LaDiDaDi · 24/01/2010 21:30

Had a horrid day here. Miserable weather and me feeling trapped in a horribly messy house with ds being all windy and screamy led to a lot of grumpyness and shouty mummy .

Talked to dd tonight at bedtime and we agreed that tomorrow she would try to listen to what I told her and I would try not to shout . My mum is coming tomorrow pm so we are going to take dd to soft play whilst my lovely cleaner comes. Hopefully I will be happier tomorrow.

snap ladidadi.... ended up braving the freezing weather and taking dd to park for 3 hours just to get ds out and in fresh air and sleeping.... he lays on his side in his bed but happily lies on his back in his pram!
Dare i say that he has gone 9 hours for 4 or 5 night now and has a bedtime of bet 7 and 8 pm..... feeds at 4 or 5am then goes down for a few more hours! ...... not sure how we did it but he was beter at night from birth and i am crap at waking up so he got little attention.... apart from being fed. I dont talk to him and just keep it all calm..... only change nappy if needed and do it mid feed so he gets the comfort after a nappy change! I dont rock him just swaddle a bit round his arms and snuggle in..... when he is calm but awake i out him down and he goes off. i am very lucky but i didnt have this with dd ...... she screamed for 4+ months and didnt sleep at all so i think i deserve a break. It could all change i know and he is a velcro bugger in day as he is prety hungry..... will now do 5- 10 mins under baby gym or in bouncer.... yippppeeee

oh and he has a dummy and loves it and there has not been any nipple confusion. i did dip it in gripe water today

sparklycheerymummy · 24/01/2010 21:56

think that emoticon should have been

Newbeginning1 · 25/01/2010 01:36

I have to share my excitement that DS slept for 30 mins in his moses basket tonight and went in there asleep. Its the first time its happened and there wasnt a massive paddy beorehand, im so proud of him!!

Also to give everyone a laugh we got caught out in the rain today. DS woke up whist we were out walking up a mahoosive hill and decided he was starving and couldnt wait for dinner so i did indeed get my boob out and feed him in the rain whilst walking up the hill. That was after i'd managed to queue for my lunch and feed him at the same time in a very busy restaurant. I'm sure i will be done for indecent exposire soon!!

Kingsroadie · 25/01/2010 20:38

Argh! She screamed all day today - after her 8 week jabs at 10:45. Despite having some calpol...she barely slept and was so tired her eyes were red and swollen. she just cannot get herself to sleep on her own and it kills me as it means sometimes she won't go down at all...
I asked my husband if we could have her adopted tonight and then said I had ruined my life as I couldn't cope with her refluxing all day, screaming when feeding, puking up everything, and screaming when not feeding due to complete and utter overtiredness! Am determined tomorrow will be better - it's another day. Am going to persevere with putting ger back into more of a routine again as she got out of it this weekend and I do think it suits her. so fingers crossed! She will now go on playmat for 15/20 mins but isn't too keen on her rocking cradle/bouncer thingy at all which is annoying.

Anyway sorry to moan on and on - hope everyone coping well! Hi to new joiners and re sleeping - no ideas tbh - she seems to wake at 3am and again at about 7ish which is good. I wake her to feed at between 10 and 11 - she doesn't normally wake on her own, having fed at about 6:30/7. Have a happy night everyone!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 25/01/2010 21:07

I have been doing the sleep feeding thing so far she is still getting up at 2am and 5am grrr. She had one night where she woke at 3am and 6am thats what im aiming for. I do the 11pm feed and DH does the 3am one, it would suit me just fine!
The sleep feeding worked really well with Jake so im keeping my fingers crossed.

legscrossed · 25/01/2010 21:22

Re wraps...... go on wrapababy.com and watch the demos. all wraps used are noted and then you can google them.
Thats what I did, best size seems to be bout 4.7 m

Re sleep (what sleep) phoebe (8 weeks) does a midnight 2.30 4.30 6 n 8....oh joy. Have basically ditched bf in attempt to get a night but to avail .
Glad am not alone

Newbeginning1 · 26/01/2010 01:50

Kingsroadie - i hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

I know how exactly how you feel and admit i was thinking i would love to drop DS off with someone with his milk so that i could have a break after DS crying today if i left him for even a minute.

Is it wrong that since becoming a mother i get ridiculously excited about him sleeping on someone else or in his basket so that i can sleep in my bed but most importantly i can hog the whole bed and spread out?! I also love being able to sleep on my tummy again (apart from when DS is due a feed and my boobs feel like they will explode if i put pressure on them)

Who knew the simple things in life could be the best!

Newbeginning1 · 26/01/2010 01:55

I forgot...

Try www.slingmeet.co.uk I was looking on there for a meet in my area to talk through slings. It looks like they focus on different types of sling per meet but might be good if you want to try before you buy?

Also, for those of you wanting some more sleep, i bought a SwaddleMe for DS and he settles really well in it. It's a good buy if you're crap at swaddling like me. You can also get them off ebay cheapy too.

onionlove · 26/01/2010 09:43

Hi everyone

I got hold of a Kari me sling which is really comfy. Problem is baby sleeps in it during the day and won't sleep at night which means I still don't get any sleep. He was awake from 6 pm yesterday to 6 am this morning help!

Well, DS doesn't have a urine infection which means the wetting is all down to his reaction to DD.

Am I allowed to feel a bit sad? In infection would have been easily treated with antibiotics and wouldn't have left me feeling like I'm failing. He loves his sister but he's really struggling to accept the bit of me she takes from him
