toddlers born JAN 04?

noticed there wasnt a thread for Jan 04 toddlers, so thought i would start one

my dd was born 26th Jan 04 and is a little minx!, is there anyone else with Jan 04-ers?

DS supposed to be Jan 04 but was a month early and born 11 Dec 03.

He knows his own mind, is having tantrums, but is very smiley and happy. Eats well, sleeps well at night but it can be a struggle during the day, and DH wants another one

Mine was born Jan 05 and sounds just like yours!!

My DS just makes it - born 30th Jan - 12 days late!

Aren't they fun at the moment - mine definitely keeps me on my toes.

About to head of on 7 hour car trip on on my own tomorrow to visit inlaws and meet DH who has been off sailing for a week in Scotland. No idea what it'll be like, normally okay when me and DH in car, but haven't done it since DS cracked getting his arms out of his carseat belts. HELLLP!!!

Hello there! Glad someone else spotted the lack of Jan '04 thread.
DD was 12 days late too and arrived on 23rd Jan 04. Sounds very much like all your toddlers - into everything but a very happy little girl. People are always commenting on how smiley she is. She does make us laugh! Has found her stubborn steak though and has the occasional short lived tantrum...oh how I look forward to the "terrible twos". She's also mastered the getting her arms out of the car seat trick. Surprises me everyday with things that she's figured out!
Am currently awaiting the arrival of #2 due any day now. Am I mad having 2 under 2? Anyone else got 2 close together and if so, how do they get on?

there is 2 yrs 4 months between my 2 Michael is just 4 and charlotte 2 in Jan, they get on really well Michael always misses Charlotte when they do seperate things and always have a hug & kiss for each other when reunited. although they do have their moments of fighting although it is usually Charlotte hitting Micheal & he is too nice to fight back! Charlotte is really getting to grips with her stubborn streak & if she wants somethign she will not budge!

Hooray lm - good thread - was feeling a bit left out of all the other threads like this! Ds2 was born at home on 14th Jan 04 and is a total handful. I'd say more difficult than the other two put together. He truly has a mind of his own and makes huge efforts to get what he wants. (Doesn't always work though - in a battle of wills I can usually ignore a temper tantrum!).

Phew! Glad I'm not the only one beginning to suffer the effects of the terrible twos. Tantrums are few and far between at the moment and like you, Aero I can usually ignore them.
chjlly - hoping my two will get on just as well. How did Michael take to Charlotte when she first arrived?

Michael loved Charlotte from the start the fact she arrived with one of his favourite toys helped he is mad on thomas the tank engine & had been going on about getting Annie & Clarabel so Charlotte arrived with them!!

He would occasionally shout at her to shut up if she was crying too much for him to hear the tv! but if you asked him if he wanted her to stay at nursery or with someone else he would say NO and cling on to her!

I have a friend whose son asked for his baby brother to go back where he came from and there was a slightly higher age gap but we had involved michael in the pregnancy from an early age by getting to talk to my bump!

chjlly - sounds pretty much like the perfect sibling relationship. Hoping that DD is still a bit to young to harbour any jealous feelings and before long will have forgotten that she ever had mummy and daddy to herself! We've got the obligatory present from little brother/sister and she has been talking to bump - latterly saying "Come out and play!" Though she also blows raspberries on my tummy - don't know what newby is making of that?!

Quite a few I met through postnatal have had or are about to have their second. They are definitely much more relaxed about the second compared to how we all were with the first. I'm just getting round to the thinking about it stage having originally sworn just to have one, but broodiness is definitely creeping up on me and my DH.

It does help that no.2 is a lot easier than no1!! probably as they are abandoned while you concentrate on no1!!

We didn't really plan to have our second so close to the first. I really wanted to give it a couple of years and let DD be a baby for as long as possible. However, it had tahen us nearly 4 years to get pregnant with DD and I (naively) thought we'd have to wait a while for #2 as well. Two monthe later...!!! Am hoping that they'll be great friends.
Have all of your toddlers discovered their noses? DD is obsessed with hers. Sticks everything up there - fingers, food, crayons,etc,etc... Quite embarrassing in public as people must think that I've constantly got my finger stuck up my nose for her to have got the idea.
Bunches - did you survive your long car trip ok?

Charlotte has now got in to the habit of sticking her finger up her nose inspecting her finger and then offering it to us my Dad was not impressed when she tried it with him!!

Toddlers and bodily fluids, eh? What a great combination!
Anyway, thought I'd bump this thread up a bit as not heard form anyone for a while and I've got a bit of time on my hands at the moment - being 11 days overdue with #2!
I've been trying to find toddler furniture without much success. Want to move DD in to her own room (which, incidentally isn't even built yet!) in the new year. Anyone else embarked on this yet?

We found that Ikea had some good reanges for young children at a reasonable price too! Which is ok if you live close to one! Good luck with Number 2 hope it arrives soon!

Can't really help with the furniture - though agree IKEA always seem to have nice bright children furniture - bought some for my nieces about 8 years ago and it's still going strong despite being hammered by the three of them and many friends!!

Given your last posting Jessymum I guess your new arrival is here - hope everything went okay but no doubt your hands are full now. Yes I survived the car journey (and a weekend with the inlaws) thanks - though got plenty of strange looks as performed many action songs queueing in traffic at Forth Road Bridge!

Bunches - know exactly what you mean about strange looks while doing actions in car. Am hoping that my "Twinkle Twinkle" looks more Kylie than Tweenie-esque! Always feel sorry for little tots on a long journey - it must be soooo boring.

Had quite an upsetting incident with my DS night before last - having searched around on mumsnet it seems as if he may of had a "night terror" although he seems a bit young. Has anyone else experienced this at 20 months and if so has there been repeats?

Yes, bunches, I finally "popped" in the small hours of monday 10th at 1.42am. Little girl - Abigail Isobel weighing in at 8lb 10oz. Induction was threatened but she eventually started on her own - thank goodness. Only 16 days overdue and relatively short, easy labour. She's perfect and DD1 is taking very well to her...so far.
Funny you should mention the night terrors. DD1 had one night before last, at least I think that's what it was - woke up crying and then wouldn't let us touch her - writhing around for about 30 mins. Eventually gave her some calpol which seemed to calm her as I thought she may have been coming down with chickenpox which has been doing the rounds. No sign of anything yesterday morning though so have put it down to a bad dream. Not nice though.

Congratulations Jessymum - can't quite believe you're finding chance to get on line! Seems night before last must have been the night for "terrors" - how spooky is that?

DD1's 18mth check was due today (I know, she's 21 months but seems all appts are running behind schedule!!). Health visitor phoned to cancel 5 mins before she was due! Good job I'd managed to dress both dds and myself and tidied up a bit then! (major achievement at the moment!)
3rd day alone with DD1 and new baby. Have promised self will not shout at DD1 today. Feeling very guilty about losing it with her. Think she's trying to get some attention by doing little naughty things. Ordinarily would have just laughed at her but with little one dangerously close to some of her antics, coupled with my lack of sleep, I'm afraid that she's getting the sharp end of my tongue more often than i'd like. Any tips on dealing with a toddler and a newborn, anyone???

I found getting toddler to help with baby - ie getting a nappy or something when they are both awake I have a couple of good pictures of DS trying to read Dd a story!

also doing a activity when baby is asleep is a good way of giving toddler some attention read a book or just have a cuddle watching tv

remember the housework will still be there tomorrow (unless your dh is really helpful!)

It does get easier as they get older & used to each other - I can remember shouting at both ds & dh when dd was first born it is difficult to spread your attention around all of them

Thanks for the advice, Chjlly - good to know that there is life on the other side! Unfortunately first week without DH coincided with half term and I wasn't brave enough to take DD1 to anywhere too popular. Intend to do more activities this week. Hope all is ok with you and everyone else.
