Hi jessysmummy - how has your week been this week? Do things feela bit easier?I can remember having days where we all stayed in pj's!!

Bunches · 07/11/2005 13:03

Hi Jessymum. Hope you survived your first week without DH. Where I live we have a little "mum's club" going - we all met whilst on maternity leave - anyway one of us has a new 12 week old baby so from time to time we borrow her double buggy and take her eldest and our own for a walk or just have the eldest around to play - this gives the mum a little (not total) break and allows her eldest daughter to feel like she is having some special treat not just the new baby driving everything...
Thankfully no more night terrors, but have been plagued with ear infections for last four weeks despite four lots of antibiotics. Doctor talking about refering DS to ENT specialist - guess I'm more worried than he is as the infection doesn't seem to bother him too much.

jaamy · 10/01/2006 16:51

Hi! I used to be jessysmummy but am now jessy and abi's mummy - hence, jaamy.
Been a bit quiet with new baby arriving avd christmas and all! Yes, bunches, we are surviving without DH ...most days!!
Hope everyone is ok and looking forward to or have had 2nd birthdays. TWO!!! OMG, where dis that go?
Takr care x

Bunches - did you get DS ear infection sorted out?

mythumbelinas · 10/01/2006 17:29

My dd2 was born 19 jan 04 .. no 18m checks at my gp now, but she's been given a 2 yr check.

Congratulations to u jaamy

Bunches · 20/01/2006 15:43

Hi Jammy

Good to hear from you.

DS due in hospital on 6th Feb for gromets in one ear and a look at the other ear to see what has caused a perforated ear drum - need to do this under General anasthetic (however you spell it) as every time he's ssen the specialist it's been too infected for him to see into it. Sure it will be okay - guess I may be more upset than DS......

Other big news is I'm now expecting number 2 child (due 10th July) so please keep me posted with any tips on how to cope. At the moment desparately trying to cope with new demanding role at work, with lots of travel, DS and all that brings at his age and trying desparately not to throw up every day although good news is I'm not feeling nauseous all day long now...Oh for a mum's life eh!!!!

Bunches · 20/01/2006 15:46

Hi mythumbelinas - just noticed you had a birthday yesterday - did you do anything special? My Ds was due on 19th but kept me waiting to the 30th so have got a couple of weeks to sort his birthday out...

mythumbelinas · 20/01/2006 16:03

Hi Bunches, thanx dd2 has been sick all week, but we risked taking her out to lunch yesterday and took some birthday pics. I was busy in the afternoon, so we're making it up to her by having her b'day party tonight instead .. she seems to have perked up lots now
Congratulations on your good news. You seem to be coping extremely well. I went on maternity leave when i had dd1 and never went back.
(dd1 was born in July .. nice summer birthday parties to look forward to)
Wish you well

jaamy · 25/01/2006 14:50

Happy belated birthday to your DD thumbelinas! Hope she had a good day despite being poorly.
Well we're recovering from the aftermath of DD1's party on sun (birthday on mon). 10 under 4 plus 4 babies...AND assorted parents. Hard work but good fun and DD1 loved it.
Have fun organising DS's party, bunches. At least he'll have something nice to look forward to before he goes to hospital. Poor you having to see your littlie go through a general anaesthetic. Sure will be ok in the end though. And CONGRATS on the imprnding arrival! Have absolutely no tips on how to handle a toddler and a new born, just that you need eyes in the back of your head and twice as many hands. oh, and time goes twice as quickly!

Bunches · 27/01/2006 15:59

Hi there sneaking a quick break for my mumsnet fix ...

Good news is I've not actually been sick for a week now so hopefully will be able to enjoy DS's birthday tea on Sunday (wiorking on the premise he won't actually know it's a day early!).

Spoke to a friend who says that parents are invited in to the operating room with the babies.....very scary thought --- not sure I'll be able to cope but don't want to let Ds down. What do you think?

mythumbelinas · 27/01/2006 16:36

Thanks jaamy .. oh and happy belated birthday to your dd too! it's worth the hard work when you know your kids love it and feel special

So sorry Bunches .. i missed the bit about your ds's ear .. all the best, i'm sure you will find the strength when the time comes. Can they mend a perforated ear?
Happy birthday wishes to him

jaamy · 28/01/2006 14:52

Thanks mythumbelinas!
Bunches - Have fun on Sunday!
Don't know if I'd want to watch the op. But would it be better than sitting outside wondering and worrying what's going on?? It may help the time to go quicker if you are watching it but DS will never know whether you were there or not. SOrry, I've not been much help, have I? Hope all goes ok anyway.

jaamy · 31/01/2006 17:04

Bunches - happy belated birthday to your DS for yesterday. Did the party go well? And hope the op goes ok.
And happy belated 2nd birthday to any other jan 04 toddlers out there....lilsmum, aero, sleepysuzy, chjlly. Birthdays over for another year...

jaamy · 06/02/2006 12:15

Bunches - thinking about you and DS today. Hope all goes ok. x

Bunches · 14/02/2006 10:36

Hi there

Sorry not been in touch for a while but have been laid up with Flu for the last fortnight - it has really taken it out of me, but have now ventured back to work. Managed 2.5 hours yesterday, aiming for longer today but still going to do a short day.

Thanks for your thoughts last week - the op on one ear went fine and DS was up and running about in the afternoon. Hated being with him when given General Anasthetic - it reminded me of when I had to have my cat put to sleep - needless to say led to tears - mine! Afterwards DS wanted nothing to do with me for the first hour or so, only his dad would do - felt like he was blaming me...Was forgiven y the afternonn though.
DS still has problem with right ear as perforation was much larger than consultant expected and as repairs don't tend to work at this age we're now on a watching brief...At least it doesn't seem to be causing any pain (either that or DS now used to it), just not very pleasant when it keeps leaking and still prone to infection.

Hope all well with everyone else

jaamy · 14/02/2006 11:49

Glad the op went ok and that your DS didn't let it upset him...I'd have cried bucket loads too! Hope his other ear avoids any problems.
I've been crying at the slightest thing lately...think combination of hormones and the fast approach of going back to work after mat leave. DD1 has been very sweet and comes and gives me a hug ang pats my back if she sees me upset, which makes me cry even more. Such a lovely little girl. I'm very lucky
Hope you get better from flu soon. Take care

mythumbelinas · 14/02/2006 15:18

Bunches, glad to hear the op went well .. even about the right ear, it is all progress Ds sounds strong, and i'm sure you were .. you've been ill after all!
ahh jaamy, dd1 sounds adorable Good luck about going back to work!! You sound like you're dreading it and i don't blame you!

jaamy · 16/02/2006 08:00

Thanks mythumbelinas! Need all the good wishes I can get going back to work. Yes, both DDs are gorgeous, just makes it harder to go back to work.
Have been potty training DD1 for nearly 2 weeks now. A bit hit and miss, some good days, some not so good but she's getting there. Anyone else had a go at this yet?

mythumbelinas · 16/02/2006 13:03

ooh, i absolutely dreaded potty training time with dd1, but i knuckled down to it the summer before she had to start nursery. Was hit and miss for a few weeks too .. she seemed to really hate the potty. My sis bought dd1 one of those potty seats for the loo with a little ladder .. and it was magic! She loved it and used that with no mess from then on .. i was so relieved, you can't imagine!!

jaamy · 16/02/2006 23:24

Woke DD1 up this morning in a pool of vomit! Think she's got that bug that's been doing the rounds. Poor little sausage had been sick in the night and I hadn't even heard her. Can't have made too much noise as we've still got the monitor in her room while DD2 is still in with us. Still felt very guilty that I hadn't been there when she was ill. So she's spent most of the day in pull-ups just incase any diahorrea followed. Still she's been quite good asking to go on the toilet/potty. Bless her.
Mythumbelinas - DD1 can manage to get on to the loo herself with a bit of help from the bath next to it but DM has one of those toilet seats at her house and a step to get up to the loo. She's got all the baby/toddler gadgets you could think of!

mythumbelinas · 17/02/2006 14:17

ooh, your poor dd1 .. get well wishes to her Don't you just feel terrible when they're sick?! Ahh and she's still going to the potty!!
I'm not going to start potty trining with dd2 till the weather is a bit warmer (i say .. just trying to procrastinate!!)

Bunches · 22/02/2006 13:05

Don't you both wish you could just magic it all away from them when children are poorly? to that end Jaamy, hope DD1 is feeling much better now.

Can totally understand you not looking forward to going back to work - I'm already counting down to when I finish and seriously contemplating taking a year off this time...

Haven't started potty training DS yet, although we do have a potty which he occasionally pulls out, takes his trousers & nappy down and sits on with a book - so obviously he knows what it is for although has never produced anything into it....near it yes, but in it no!!! Not sure when I should start properly with him, will probably let nursery guide me as they tend to do a group at a time.

On a different note - am wondering what I should do about bedtime milk bottle. Starting to feel this might be more of a comfort thing to me (not accepting DS is really growing up) and that DS would quite as happily drink the milk from a cup. Have you two moved on from giving bottles yet?

jaamy · 22/02/2006 18:59

Thanks for the sympathies mythumbelinas and bunches. DD1 was fine for a few days and now has chickenpox - must have been what made her sick. Typical as it is DD2's christening on Sunday.
Was going to leave potty training until warm weather but she had been asking to go on the toilet and nursery said that she had been pulling down her nappy and trying to join in with the older children when they were going on the potty so I thought we'd give it a go.
Re: bedtime bottle. Tried giving milk to DD1 in a drinking cup a couple of months ago and she drank very little of it. Persevered for a few weeks and still not keen so have reverted back to bottles for now. Definitely a comfort thing.
\hope you're still keeping well bunches. When do you finish work? Bet you can't wait.

mythumbelinas · 23/02/2006 15:45

Jaamy - Happy Christening
That's a coincedence jaamy. My dd1 came down with chicken pox when we celebrated dd2's birth/big family dinner. Dd1 came to the dinner, but my mum looked after her for a while as dd2 was only a month old then.
In the photos, poor dd1 is covered in spots .. and we had to warn other guests, etc.

Sorry, no help with the bottle to cup thing. dd2 is so greedy she drinks from anything, but she gave up her bedtime milk a long time ago (can't remember when now) She now drinks from a trainer cup. It's the soother i can't get to let go of .. that's her comfort!!

Bunches · 24/02/2006 11:48

Hope you have a good christening Jaamy and that DD1 is able to enjoy it too.

It's such a co-incidence - only last night as we were bathing Ds did DH ask if I could remember what it was like when DS had chickenpox about a year ago - with a massive kingspot on his bum that didn't go for ages...... Fortunately after the first day when he was quite listless DS was not really poorly with it and didn't try itching much at all despite being very very very spotty! Not sure who was most embarassed though - my DS or my then 71 year old dad who subsequently caught it and had to go into hiding, not quite believing he'd caught a childhood illness at his ripe old age!!

Think I might try DS with milk in an ordinary cup / beaker sometime soon - afterall he has all his other drinks out of them - I'll let you know how I get on.

Whilst DS doesn't have a soother Mythumbelinas, he does have a little elephant whose paws he sucks every night, and a dog during the day (although he seems to be growing out of Woof. I've started taking the elephant out of his mouth when I check him during the night but there's no way I'm going to attempt to part him from it when he's conscious!
