Tree - did you ever get her to latch on?

OP posts:
tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 21:46

Ah, I didn't see the article, but I am totally over fruit. It provides a lot of sugar and doesn't fill them up. Pah!

Give me a good dollop of mashed potato any day

Lenni - it is these real foods that the little blighter turns her regal nose up too!! Even my MIL bolognese, which is the best on the planet by several miles. ANd how can anyone not like pasta???? Even tin little shaps, big ones to hold.... By this age dd1 was scoffing curry and all sorts, but rapidly turned into a picky eater by about 1.5-2.

Ah well. They all do ok in the end I guess.

Night Lennie - sleep well.

SherryMerryLennipillar · 17/12/2009 21:49

My DH turns his nose up at pasta - I have tried beating him with a stick but he still won't eat it, I have still served it to him once a week for the last 10 years, d'you think I'm flogging a dead horse?

OP posts:
tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 21:51

Yes. But keep serving it. And make it wholemeal

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 21:52

No - no latch. Just giggles and nips .

I think she is past it. A shame really. Although I do not miss breastfeeding bras. Not even a bit.

120cmsOfSnow · 17/12/2009 21:53

Another good snack is frozen peas, you just add boiling water for a minute then drain. H just loves sitting and eating those mixed with some sweetcorn.

Lenni, I 'heard' fruit, but maybe she did mean fruit and veg. I'm really surprised at the ratio being 4:1 - was that for kids, don't they generally have a different food need profile to adults including higher fat and sugar? Brains have dissolved.

I just think that babies grow so fast and use up so much energy that most of the reasons they have so many paddies is due to low blood sugar. DD is an absolute horror if she doesn't eat enough in the mornings and that means I basically cluster feed her from 7 until 11. They both love porridge made with whole oats and water, then with either grated apple or banana mashed in. We get through a pack of oats a week.

Tree, I've got a friend with a dairy-allergy toddler. She makes lots of her own flapjacky type things which are portible and filling.

120cmsOfSnow · 17/12/2009 21:56

portable.

I hope it does slack off by the time they are five. I worked out we eat 50 pieces of fruit a week in our household.

at lenni and her pasta torture.

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 21:58

I'm hungry!

Peas - no. Sweetcorn - sometimes.

Little whatsit. I must keep trying though. I think I get disheartened and think 'no doesn't like' to foods too quickly. Apparently it's something like 10 times before they actually taste and judge.

I believe they do need loads more sugar and fat, fat especially.

Dietician has advised us to cut back on oats and soluble fibre, and replace with wheat and protein. I thought fibre was good, but apparently she was getting so much there was no way her fluid intake could match it. Hence sluggish bowel constipation, and huge stool. I was sort of avoiding wheat as I felt gluten might be too much for her, but apparently it can also be a bowel stimulant.

It's a minefield!!

hackneyzoowithbellson · 17/12/2009 22:32

Tree, if its any consolation J eats pretty much ...nothing. Anything that is not completely liquified makes him gag and throw up. I liquify cottage pie, fish pie etc. pretty much whatever DD is being offered, and he will sometimes manage a few spoonfuls, but that's it. DD was an excellent eater, until about a year ago,(I think her fussiness is my come uppance for being a smug git about the fact she would eat anything ) now she eats...toast...cheese...fish....weetabix with the occasional banana thrown in for good measure. I despair! I just cook her a healthy meal and if she doesn't eat it...then tough. It is worrying thoguh and stressful. I love food! Why don't they?

Evening Tree, Books, 120, Dog, Lenni and everyone else. Sorry for not catching up properly, am soooo tired and cannot take in any info... The school hols have started, J has had an ear infection for three days, nights have been awful, he has wooken L up every night, so we are walking around like zombies. He'll only sleep firmly attached to my chest...so have buggered my back too.

We had an appointment with the oncologist at GOS today. The results are back and apparently they think it is such a rare type of tumour to occur in infants that they have sent off the tissue samples to the Royal Marsden for a second opinion. So still no diagnosis....but if it is a epitheloid haemangioendothelioma (how the heck do you pronounce that?) Then it is benign but can become malignant, needs shrinking, might or might not respond to chemo, might or might not be able to be cut out....so we have no answers I am exhausted with the worry of this and so grrrr, as I had a feeling we wouldn't get a final diagnosis today, but really hoped we would.
Anyway, we will see the surgeon next week or after xmas, we will see the oncolgist again as soon as the second opinion has come back, we have a referral to the nutritionist at GOSH as J really needs more calories and vitamins etc...so at least stuff is happening.
Oh...and no poo from J for three days either...am not looking forward to that explosion.

120, saw your bug pics...made me shudder, it used to freak me out completely when we lived on Lamma and used to get huge great poisonous centipedes, little snakes....and one day to my utter horror...a python in the kitchen (DD was tiny...3 weeks, and i went outside (our kitchen was sort of a lean to) at about 5am to get some water (completely starkers may I add) and this huge mother f was coiled around the kettle and draped accross the kitchen counter)

Right, off to have glass of wine and cheeky cigarette (am also and as seem to have started smoking again...will stop on NYE) All the street lights have gone out and its very blizzardy.

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 22:37

Oh hkz - I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing diagnosis. Good they are being thorough, but you must be freaking exhausted ith worry.

How you aren't here, there and everywhere tearing out your hair and ranting I do not know.

btw I faintedat idea of poisonous centipedes.

DD2 up, so off to try some cereal.

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 17/12/2009 22:38

fainted

SherryMerryLennipillar · 18/12/2009 08:35

HKZ - Sorry to hear you are still no further forward, the worry must be dreadful, I can't imagine. Wouldn't worry about the odd vice to get you through, has been a difficult time, give yourself a break but make sure you are talking to people in RL too, you need the support. I really hope you get some news today of a more definate nature.

I best go as DS still ill and clingy and DD just woken.

120 - it was 1:4 for adults, in my wisdom have applied it to my children at least my satsumas will get eaten now [phew] although I do think we still eat too much fruit in this household

OP posts:
tackyChristmastreedelivery · 18/12/2009 10:23

Morning!

Il's took dd1 to school. Great, as H coul dsleep on till 9. SHe woke up and barfed everywhere, and has been sick 3 times since. Back asleep on my chest now. We have Santa Sleepover on Sunday so she has to get better quickly.

DD1 never had a bug, so haven't had baby with vomits really. It's very messy! She wont tolerate a cloth or anything to catch the puke, so has made a fine mess. Hope we avoid the runs......

elkiedee · 18/12/2009 11:04

HZ, sorry to hear the news about J - I hope you get a clearer idea soon.

missjackson · 18/12/2009 11:52

Hi all.. I was wondering about moosey too. Hope you're okay Moosey and just busy getting sorted for Xmas. Come back soon though, we miss you.

hkz sorry to hear about confusion over J's diagnosis - must be driving you crazy not knowing. Don't blame you for sneaky cigs under the circumstances - at least you get that tiny little moment of time to yourself while you smoke them. At least you have broken up for the holidays now - yey! I was sort of hoping I would get snowed in at home this morning, but no joy .. was driving to work at 5.45am (rehearsal week) thinking finally there was a good reason to have a 4 wheel drive in the city!

tree I feel your pain. It's only since I have been at work that N has really shown any interest at all in food. When I am home, I am lucky if he chews one mouthful from a piece of toast. Much more interested in throwing it on the floor or giving it to the cat. I try to be brave and stay chilled, and let him play with food as much as wants, but sometimes it's hard to stop myself trying to persuade him to eat. With OH he eats quite decently though. I think it's soooo hard for us mums to stay relaxed around food and our babies though. Avocado is nice fatty snack.

Lenni hope DS feels better soon.

Must get Xmas sorted out this weekend - staying down in London so no excuse not to shop . Oh yes, guess where I am expressing at work these days? In a certain person's dressing room! - ah, the luxury!

Gumps · 18/12/2009 13:25

Only just started to catch up and saw Tree post.
S is dairy free too but he eats like the world is ending. Toast is a huge winner with us, cut up into time squares so he can put a whole bit on himself. I use a dairy free spead from th organic shop near us which is also salt free. Today he has also eaten a banana, an organiz biscuit (most of their biscuits are dairy and junk free and the plum baby spelt ones are dairy free too). He then had beef stew folloed by fruit puree, he also is allowed soya yogurt now which he loves. He then ate a few piees of courgette, 2 rice cakes and 4 pieces of pasta from my lunch!
Other things he eats:
whole pieces of chicken to chew on
sweet potato or normal chips
organix oat snack bars
all fruit

Today I am making 2 dairy free cakes for his big day tomorrow so will see how that goes.

Hope that helps.

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 18/12/2009 13:30

Yes it does, thankyou Gumps. Wanna swap??

Might try toast now, she hasn't eaten or drank since last night. Poor poorly babe. Also I have bile stained vomit on my white company bedding. Gah.

Gumps · 18/12/2009 13:34

HKZ so sorry the news wasn't better. Hope J is doing ok and that things improve in the new year.

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 18/12/2009 14:11

Big day tomorrow Gumps!! Let us know how the cakes go. What are you doing to mark the day [sorry if I missed the post with that info in]

This time last year.......

tinkerbellstinkerbells · 18/12/2009 14:23

off to dhs work xmas ball tonite cant wait

120cmsOfSnow · 18/12/2009 15:41

Have fun tink! Tree, that sounds like a nightmare.

Well, I'm the one thats sick today. Not sure whether food poisoning or bug, but have only managed an almond croissant so far. Thought if it was going to come up again, it may as well be something calorific .

Ahhhh. I have two sleeping babies again. I love it when they synchonise like this.

PatTheHammer · 18/12/2009 18:59

Hello all, sorry about the poorly babies.

Tree i would post what Z eats in a normal day but not enough time or thread space left. We are trying to find something he doesn't like at the moment, all his sheets from nursery come back everyday with breakfast.....all, lunch........all and seconds, tea......all!!!! And then he will eat again when we get home, I think he is thoroughly going to enjoy xmas dinner!

Tink, have a good night.

MissJ........Do you mean Big D's dressing room, any secrets for us yet????

Hey 120, Lenni and Gumps.

HKZ, so about all the confusion and the waiting must be excrutiating, I think you are well entitled to a few Marlboro lights, bloody hell I would be chainsmoking!!

I'm off out to a party too, oh in about 5 mins so better run!!!

poor you dog. at dic though.

I've got a horrid tummy bug which my mum and dad both had last week. DD was also complaining of tummy ache this week but we didn't believer her . It is pretty sore though and comes with a lovely bit of d&v on the side; could that be what he has dog?

I'm a terrible mummy, the dc had pizza for lunch and pasta with cheese for supper. Just couldn't face the smell of real food.

off to bed now. night all.
