I'm just on the mend from a nasty cold. I've been spending the last week with Cbeebies and my boobs doing all the childrearing. I hope yours gets better soon.

Doctor said Joe was fine yesterday. He's feeding better today but seems really bothered by stuffy nose.

Everyone-how do you get your baby to take a bottle? We're not having much luck

Treats · 26/01/2010 17:56

Joining the list of people who've gone down with colds ...... The worst thing is that I've developed a really bad chesty cough which really spooks Isabel if I start hacking while she's feeding. Actually, no - the worst thing is that I think I've passed it on to her - she's sneezing and coughing a lot and making horrible snorting noises through her nose.

Calypso - at the sugar in the baby juices. Did anyone see Panorama last night where they were looking at the nutritional content of foods marketed for toddlers? It was a real eye-opener - particularly the lack of official regulations or guidelines around what can be sold for under-5s.

BTW - I've read that most babies in their first year should be getting between 14 and 16 hours of sleep a day, so if they're sleeping for 10 hours a night, you should aim for about 5 hours of naps during the day. There's a new book out about baby sleep which I was flicking through in Waterstone's today. Can't remember the author's name unfortunately but it was very good......

Treats · 26/01/2010 17:58

this is the book I just mentioned. There was an article about it in the Telegraph a few weeks ago.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 26/01/2010 18:39

Got a cold here too ug.

DD has gone to bed so I'm running a bath.

I was up with DS in the night at 3am (because he needed a wee) and then DD for a feed at 3.30 and I couldn't get back to sleep - so annoying.

Planning on choc and tv after the bath!

Hope you lot are feeling more human.

HumphreysCorner · 26/01/2010 19:44

My school mum friend has just texted to say she has come down with the cold. Is this a start of an epidemic????

Big squeeze to all.

Treats Thanks for book rec, I've just ordered it from the library for pick up tomorrow.

Joseph has been asleep on me since 5pm, including a really good dream feed from both sides. I was a bit sceptical about a rec I had for the nasal congestion (use breastmilk) but it worked a treat. He had a bit of a fright yesterday evening when we had to wake him suddenly (I started choking on a piece of cake)so slept v badly last night. Bless him, he must be exhausted.

Sleep deprived mum experiment of the day - vax carpet cleaner is just an effective a fabric conditioner as Fairy or Comfort Pure. Added stain busting properties too-smell is a bit strong though.

CalypsoFramboise · 26/01/2010 20:22

Poor mummies who are poorly, I hope you all recover quickly and avoid babies getting too ill too.

treats someone told me about that book this morning - they said that the method was tedious but they were seeing a good improvement in a week of trying

More for Annalise's weight - she gained only 1oz in 2 weeks. wtf is she doing with all the milk that she's guzzling down (and I assume that she's keeping SOME of what she's not throwing up?!) I mean, she poos after every feed, she must be having enough? She's now dipped to below the 2nd centile so a visit to the Drs on Thursday...

Hoorayhenrietta · 26/01/2010 20:42

Hi everyone...thought I'd join you...had DD3 2 October 09.

littlepea72 · 27/01/2010 01:26

Its 2.25am & ive been up since 10.30 with Faith who has been changed 3 times. She now also has a very nasty cold. All running down the back of her throat, coughs & sick! Downstairs seems to be the only place she can get any sleep, but if i lie down to get some sleep on the sofa, the cat tries to attack my head! I love the cat, but that saying "swing the cat" yip, its going to happen lol....

rubyslippers · 27/01/2010 10:13

twinklegreen · 27/01/2010 10:58

Hi everyone

Well I'm still ill! it's comforting to know that I'm not alone. No cold here but just a really really sore throat, making it hard to eat and drink anything, which I'm sure is affecting my milk as Amelie seems to want to feed all the time

Welcome henrietta I had my 3rd child on 30th September.

littlepea hope faith went to sleep eventually, how are you today?

ruby hope the jabs go ok today.

sorry haven't read any further back yet, I'll be back when I've caught up.

twinklegreen · 27/01/2010 10:58

lovely photo's hc

Clothilde · 27/01/2010 12:03

Hello Henrietta. My DS shares a birthday with your girl.

princessmel · 27/01/2010 12:15

Hello to the new mummies

More colds here. F has got antibiotics. He is snotty and wheezy , still feeding ok though.

HC F had a week where he went down to 1 poo a day instead of about 3, then he had a day where he didn't poo atall. He's back to multiple poo's now

Last night we had a marathon 6.30-9pm evening feed but then he slept till 6am then went back till 8am. We were then late for school and I had to go home after getting half way there as I'd left the straighteners on (which I didn't even have time to use). When I arrived, with F in the sling, one of my mum friends burst out laughing and said how flushed and bedraggled I looked...thanks!

F is still having his daytime sleeps on me. Dh is hopefully off work in feb half term and thinks we may try and do some sort of training with F. I am not keen and also don't want to affect his FANTASTIC (imo) night sleeping.

Calypso I hope you manage to get some answers about A's weight gain. Do they/you think it could be some sort of intollerance?

I am doing a 2 week non dairy trial with ds1 as a result of lots of explosive poos. (he is 7)This has been going on for ages now.
We had a really awful docs appt, we were there almost an hour and ds1 and dd were really naughty. Climbing on the Dr bed, playing with the bendy light/curtain/etc. Singing REALLY loud ....
they are being very monkeyish at the mo.

Hope you're all ok.

devilsadvocaat · 27/01/2010 13:49

things have improved somewhat here:

charlie has been going to bed 7.30 ish - 4 am ish then back to sleep until 8. much better.

pm - we have started some mild training as charlie is getting overtired and not settling well at night. so now if he is still up after ds1 has gone to sleep we let him settle himself. was not as bad as i remember will you sleep train during the day? i think i may have to do this too soon as charlie is getting harder and harder to put down and ds1 is downstairs on his own way too much. charlie won't sleep on me downstairs as ds1 is too noisy. think i'll find it harder to leave him during the day but am running out of ideas.

hc - m is absolutely GORGEOUS!

welcome HH

charlie is pooing every 30 mins or so at the mo he seems fine but is getting a sore bum. the only time ds1 ever had nappy rash was when teething so i am wondering if that is it.

princessmel · 27/01/2010 14:01

Devils, yes that's right. F has been feeding/sleeping on me since 11.30 ish... I haven't had lunch yet and am hungry! Plus I am bored!!!!!!!
We'll prob do Baby Whisperer Pick Up Put Down(pupd). Really don't want to affect night time though as he does go in his bed then....

I am slimming down though, have worn my spray on skinnies this week! Such a joy after almost a year of leggings

Agree, gorge pics HC

Hoorayhenrietta · 27/01/2010 14:37

Hi! We have the Sears book - it is very useful and reassuring!

fidelma · 27/01/2010 21:23

Hi all

I have been keeping up but sadly not poasting.

C was feeding every hour but that was upsetting his whole system, so I have been keeping him going for 3 hours, on the whole we are managing it and he is alot better as a result. (you would think I would of got the hang of this by now !!!)

I followed the baby whisper sleep routine and C responded very well.He has all his naps in the cot. However he still wakes every 3 hours for a feed.

I have had a lump on my breast since C was born.At my 8 week check they said that it was probably linked to breast feeding but to keep an eye on it.Well after another 8 weeks it is no better.I am being refered to the breast clinic. As you can imagin I have been slightly HYSTERICAL.Hence my lack of posts this week due to googling breast lumps.

However I am now greatly reasured that it is most likley a cyst as it does go up and down (but mainly up) is 1cm with a clear outline, sometimes round and sometimes oval shaped and I get a bit of defered pain under my arm.All symptoms of a cyst so fingers crossed. All will be well.Does anyone eles have any experience of cysts? Breast feeding councilors what are your views?

My dinner party last week was a huge success.Curry and champane YUM YUM

My mum had the older 3 and C went to bed at 5.30pm Oh the adult life what bliss.(but i did miss them)

Waves to all newbeeies.

Hugs to everyone eles. x
