10gms not 10oz - that really would be bad!

Ruby YAY!

Clothilde · 24/01/2010 08:47

Calypso good luck wih the weight gain - I hope it was the scales.

Birth story for Crowbaby is here. No scaryness but I wrote it while still on a hormone high, so it may be a bit (a) smug (b)incomprehensible.

Clothilde · 24/01/2010 08:50

Oh, 10g sounds a lot less worrying

Tentative yays for emerging from the growh spurt.

HappyTangerine · 24/01/2010 10:57

Welcome Clothide (waves hello)

Calypso-so glad it was 10g not 10oz! Joe and I are fine-yes the sleep is hellish but he won't be a baby forever-ha, I'll have trouble getting him out of bed when he's a teenager. He's a joy and an absolute gift adn those smiles make it all worthwhile.

Ruby Tentative hooray! Just think of how well you've done-you could probably get through SAS training with ease after this x

I have a question for anyone whose lo has had a cold. Joe seems to have caught mine (lovingly passed to us by dh). He's sneezing a little but no runny nose. He's coughing intermitently though. Feeding fine, bit shorter (10-15 mins at a time) but more often, at least every hour, including from 3-7am. Green flecks in soiled nappy this morning but his other ones have been fine-he's producing lots of wet nappies. I'm giving him saline nose drops regularly, doing skin to skin and have a humidifier on the go in the livivng room. He's also having storytime in the bathroom with the shower on full blast-the steam is clearing my mucous so must be doing the same for him, hopefully. Is there anything else I should be doing? And what do I need to look out for in terms of bronchilitits? His breaths per min are fine and although he's a bit more sleepy than usual, when he's awake he's alert, just tired. We are off to the doctor in the morning.
TIA

SparrowFflamau · 24/01/2010 11:01

Devil - I've been feeling the same. I know I will bitterly regret it if I stop b/f now, but atm it is just getting to me.

smallone · 24/01/2010 11:33

Hi! CANNOT keep up with the thread! Half the time it won't load on my comp but I've started a course to become a breastfeeding peer support counsellor so spending all my time reading! Big wave to everyone, we're all good, lots of fist chewing and dribbling. Dropped from 75th to 9th centile but perfectly happy which is exactly what dd did. I've tried feeding him more and he brings it up. hey ho! Small but perfectly formed I reckon!

wibblydibs · 24/01/2010 17:24

HT look out for him using his tummy to breath - also, his breathing would get very noisy. Louis wouldn't feed at all - just too bunged up to latch on, he never really had a runny nose though. Hope it's just a cold - but the doc should put your mind at rest tomorrow

Oh, and we used olbas oil on a tissue in the room - maybe while you've got the shower on? And raised the head of his cot mattress.

wibblydibs · 24/01/2010 17:26

Oh, and I'm also sick of bf - really want to hang on to 6 mths but am considering formula in the eve. He feeds from 7pm til 8.30-9pm every night - dull, dull, dull...

CalypsoFramboise · 24/01/2010 20:27

Clothilde your birth story is wonderful and I feel all teary reading it! I had a homebirth too, but your homebirth sounds like my birthplan, and not what actually happened - maybe next time for me! Congratulations again

CalypsoFramboise · 24/01/2010 20:28

Oh and haha

devilsadvocaat · 24/01/2010 21:42

flame and wibbly - good to know i'm not the only one. am feeling a bit better although still getting frustrated at times when i just want to get on and DO SOMETHING!

i go from one extreme to the other of counting the days left of bf (2 months tomorrow) and then thinking, this is the last time bfing as we aren't having any more babies. rminds me of the end of pregnancy.

hope i have a better week this week. have managed to get more sleep this weekend.

ht - look out for the tummy or neck sucking in when trying to breathe.

treats - good to see you! glad things are going well. i mix fed ds1 and it worked perfectly for me. hope she starts to settle better in the evening. try moving bedtime earlier as sometimes if the get overtired then they end up staying up way later iykwim. i take charlie up to bed about 6.30-6.45 and by 7.30 ish he's normally in bed. having said that, some babies are just harder to settle. anyway, welcome back

calypso - i have started my couch to 5k program, it is SO good to run again. am on week 5 this week.

hc - we don't have to book the jabs, just turn up at the clinic on a wednesday. so much easier! charlie is 4 weeks behind due to xmas/snow etc.

oh yeah, has anyone got any tips for sorting out the jelly belly? i can't believe how wobbly mine still is. it doesn't stick out too much but by the evening i look like i'm 5 months pg again. do i need to do crunches or something? i try to remember to suck it in during the day...

littlepea72 · 24/01/2010 21:58

Hey to everyone!

HT sounds like you are doing everything you can for the cold, its a bugger but not much gets rid of it. I put a towel under the matteress of the MB so that Faiths head was raised, that helped.

My friends little boy is only 8 months, she took him to the med centre on Friday as he couldnt keep any food down, and no wet nappies for 2 days, the doctor told her to go away & stop being such a fussy mother. An hour later & he was admitted into hospital with bronchilitits! He has been on a dip for 2 days now & the doctors told her he was almost dead! Bloody army doctors He is in a really bad way.

Well im going to go and cry now. This is my last night being 37....god do i feel old! My DH is only 32 & likes me to remember it...the pig!! LOL....I was meant to be going out with my friends tomorrow night to dinner, but with my friends LO being so ill i really dont feel it would be right.

Getting an early night as Faith has started to cough a bit, hope she isnt taking the cold again.

Treats · 25/01/2010 09:31

Hi everyone

devils, flame and wibbly - sorry to hear that the bfing is getting you down, but just think - you're over halfway!! The 6 month goal is in sight. I said in my last post about how mixed feeding works for me and Isabel and I can completely recommend this for easing the burden a little. I figure that in later life, I shall mostly be feeding her home cooked meals with fresh, seasonal ingredients, but that every so often she'll be having a takeaway or a ready meal, purely for my convenience, so the occasional formula now won't do any harm.

Having said that, I did feel guilty when i started giving her formula and I still do sometimes. And if you've invested a lot in the bfing, it's inevitable that you will feel that you've failed. So I think you're all doing the right thing to hang on for as long as you can. Not long to go.......

Hi Calypso - relieved that it was 10g and not 10oz!! How are things going apart from that? Hope the vomiting is beginning to get a bit better.

Now that Christmas and my birthday are out of the way, I'm beginning to think seriously about getting the weight off. I'm cutting back on biscuits and cakes (always my downfall) and thinking about exercise. I used to do a bit of running, but apart from the sports bra excuse (and it's not such a silly one!), the only time I could do would be first thing in the morning before DH goes to work,or last thing at night when he gets back - not tempting in the cold and dark! I do lots of walking with the pram during the day, but to get that little bit extra, I've ordered myself a fitness DVD. I've never done that before, but I've got the goal of getting into my work clothes in 10 weeks' time in mind. I might as well use the time at home to good effect - I'll have even less time to myself when I go back to work, and I'll be annoyed with myself if I still have this mummy tummy and the extra poundage. I'll let you know how I get on........

HumphreysCorner · 25/01/2010 10:17

Happy Birthday littlepea, my DH is younger than me so when he is 40 in June I will treat him the same as he did me last October . and at the army Drs.

devils my wobbly bits hang over my jeans in every direction. Definite muffin top.

Clothilde-your birth story was great.

Sorry to hear some of you are fed up with BF. I am hoping to do up to M being one. Didn't BF DD1 and DD2 self weaned at 9 months so making the most of the final months of BF as it is highly unlikely we will have another baby. Would like one but too many negative points to overcome. You have all done so well to BF for this long.

M has started to not poo 4 times every day then when he does a few days later it explodes. Does it matter if he doesn't poo daily?

M needs a feed so better go.

Big wave!

Thank HC

Faith is not well, being sick & coughing. Sleeping more than i have ever seen too.

I have Gotten DH to buy me a closer diet! My friend has done it & it worked. They say you will lose 1 stone in 8 weeks....here goes!! Im going to do the fitness for getting rid of baby weight also, will let you know how it goes. Hope to have lost the stone as i go back home in April, just in time

Starting to think about puree foods soon. Just got some Cow & Gate stuff for 4 months onwards, and the fruit juices too....she just spat the whole lot out! So much for that lol

twinklegreen · 25/01/2010 11:26

Hi everyone

devils if you find the secret to getting rid of the jelly belly let me know! Although I think I have come to terms with the fact that after having 3 large babies in 5 years my bikini wearing days are over! They're worth it though

welcome clothild

Happy birthday littlepea. For me the big 3 0 is approaching, trying to enjoy the last few months of being in my twenties!! My DH has booked for us to go and see phantom of the Opera in London for my birthday, we will be leaving the dc's with my mum, I'm really looking forward to it, hope Amelie takes a bottle ok though.

Well as you know I'm a breastfeeding counsellor and generally I really love the feeding but I still have moments where I get a bit fed up with it and just want my body back to myself for a bit. Still got a while to go yet though, I'm aiming for 13mths like I did with dd1 and ds, then that will be it forever

HC It's fairly normal for them not to poo every day, as long as he is gaining weight at the poo is a nice yellow colour then I wouldn't worry.

I have come down with tonsilitus over the weekend, It's just so awful being ill when you have a baby isn't it, off to the doc's this afternoon to see if I can get some anti-biotics to keep me going. My throat is killing me I'm trying to keep eating and drinking but it's like torture! Oh well at least it is helping with the diet! I have now lost 11lbs since xmas although still another stone and a half to go

Oh and I'm having a dinner party tonight so I'll be spending the afternoon cooking!

Sorry if I've missed anyone

CalypsoFramboise · 25/01/2010 12:46

littlepea - re the Cow and Gate juices; btw a dental nurse from Kings Hospital told our baby group only last week that one of those bottes has 19 spoons of sugar in them - it's amazing that the Food Standards Agency allows them to market something so sugary aimed at LOs, its pretty unethical .

Have had the decorators in for the last week finishing our enormous hallway - has taken 4 men 12 hours a day for the last 6 days so far - and apparently they still need to come over tomorrow... Am glad that its finally getting done, but MAN I want to stop living in the kitchen! It's making Annalise grumpy too.

Her random squawking has made me realise that I really don't 'read' her well at all and poor thing is all over the place with nap times, I really need to get her stuck into a better routine (once the army of painters have left!). Have the CLB and the Baby Whisperer, but am boggled at the difference in nap times that each recommends - 3hrs a day in CLB, c5hrs in Whisperer - 5hrs seems like a lot?

littlepea72 · 25/01/2010 13:35

Does anyone else's LO's sleep alot when they are sick? Faith is coughing, being sick & has now been sleeping since 8pm last night with only 3 half hour wakes in between! Doctor wont see her as its not an E, and i cant get the health vistor. Is the sleeping her way of getting better?? Bugger bugger bugger!! Im off to pick up my DS from school, and i think if she doesnt wake in that time then im just going to land at the doctors anyway until someone see's her

littlepea72 · 25/01/2010 13:36

Calypso at the juices with that much sugar! Down the sink they go..........

HappyTangerine · 25/01/2010 13:51

Happy Birthday littlepea . Sorry to hear Faith is ill, there'sa lot of it going about. Hope she's over it quickly and also that your friends ds picks up soon.

wibblydibs Devils and littlepea thanks for the tips of what to ook out for. Cold seems a bit better today, I think the humidifier made a massive difference. We're at the doctors this pm

Calypso The babywhisper.com has an extensive range of v active forums, free to join. They have a big board on naps,, maybe worth a look?

Breastfeeding-am also hoping to carry on for 1 year, despite all the problems we've had.

HappyTangerine · 25/01/2010 13:54

littlepea-yes, Joseph v sleepy when ill. I'm the same when ill, just want to wake to feed and have a little mooch around before going back to sleep, i figure it's the body's way of healing itself. What's Faith's temp like and is she feeding ok?

HumphreysCorner · 25/01/2010 14:17

Sorry to hear Faith is poorly. M has a slight sniffle so is in a 'don't you dare put me down or I'll cry mood'.

When M starts having juice I will probably use the Robinsons sugar free squash. Am sure I have used the Heinz summer fruit baby juice that you add water to in the past. Funny how you forget these things.

Am all excited as our new TV we ordered on the 2nd January has been delivered. Might actually be able to see a program now.

Laters!

Well ive seen the doctor, and after almost 20 hours of Faith sleeping, she is now awake. We dont know what it was, but it could of been me that did it . She was coughing so hard & bad last night that this morning i gave her some cough mixture, but it was for 3 months onwards. It might of been that, that made her sick, sleepy etc... God i will never do that again! I honestly thought i was doing the right thing & it was helping her, instead it made her sleep for a hell of a time. Well, it might of been, either that the doctor said, or she was so uncomfable with coughing last night, that her wee body needed the sleep to help itself. Still i really feel bad incase it was me, and will never give meds unless a doctor tells me too.

I think that you are all doing really well with the breastfeeding . Even if my milk had come in, i dont know if i could of continued with it, if i have learnt one thing from these posts, its not as easy as you think! Well done to you all

Thank you for the birthday wishes, my DH is buying in the food tonight, happy days! My DS has just told me that he is going to go out and pick some flowers for me. Well, we are again under alot of snow, and the only flowers on show, are the ones in the graveyard next to us! I really hope thats not what he had in mind

HC enjoy that new TV tonight! And i hope M is feeling better xx

SparrowFflamau · 25/01/2010 17:22

she prob just needed the sleep to heal

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 25/01/2010 21:41

Ditto Fflamau re sleep.

They definitely need more sleep if poorly.

I prop the moses basket up at the head end with a couple of books and have got the vapouriser thingy on here with these.

It helps me to breathe with my cold too. DD has had a blocked nose at night since before xmas. It think it takes them ages to get over these things.

When she had a v blocked nose I would feed her and that would help her to clear her nose somehow. You can also get the saline drops from the chemist that clear the nose.

Hope all the babies (and mums) have a lovely kip tonight.
