Thanks HC rugby and twinkle. Everything seems so much worse when you're ill doesn't it?

rugby nice to get the alternative perspective!Cheers for that.

Joseph now asleep on me after calpol. He's doing the odd little cough in his sleep but feeding well-we had a bit of a nursing strike yesterday (teething pain I think) so I sat up with him all night and lots of skin to skin today.

What can I take for a cold when breastfeeding? Paracetemol in't touching it and my throat is so sore I can barely swallow, not to mention the headache from hell.

twinklegreen · 21/01/2010 16:10

ibuprofen is fine when breastfeeding. I would ring your doctor though and ask them if you can take anything else like lemsips or something (I have taken lemsip in the past when breastfeeding, not sure if it's 'allowed' though, I took it on an evening when I knew it would be a few hours before I fed again) Hope you feel better soon.

Rugbylovingmum · 21/01/2010 17:52

HT - DD also had trouble feeding when she had sore gums. We got some teething powders (called 'ashton and parson's' I think but 'teetha' are meant to be good too) and gave them to her before her feeds for a couple of days. I don't know if you have tried them but it seemed to make a difference and you can give them when you are also using calpol.

fidelma · 21/01/2010 20:49

omg i am going to rant.

Feeding every 2 hours day and night

Getting thinner as a result, only pluss side.

DD2s got a tiny issue at school that the teachers flagged up.I am very disapointed with their lack of help to improve the little issue .She has a job share which in my opinion is not great for 7 year olds. Also not helped by the fact that I am slightly friendly with one of them.I am very disapointed that they are not making any efforts to improve the situation.

The ballet classes that I run started back with the supply teacher but loads of the children have dropped outI have decided to condence the classes, moving some children up and cutting the baby class.I think I have managed to please most people but it is hard to please everyone.

It is hard work to juggle my three doing ballet and swimming while speaking to all the parents and looking after the baby.

I then come home to DH who has tea ready and then homework.DD1 is doing a project on explorers,DD2 has a comprehension, they both have to recite a burns poem for next week (I hate Burns)DS1 is driving cars in Connor's bath and demanding that we read him his new Mr man book.DH then has to go to a meeting(sigh)I need to put the shopping away.Connor found it hard to settle and my head hurts as I am so tierd.

So sorry for the big rant.Oh and I smell as I didn't put on any deodarant and my hair is falling out.

AND I HAVE A DINNER PARTY FOR 10 TOMORROW!!!!!

However the house will be perfect,(I have a cleaner!!!)I have made all the food(someone is bringing pudding)My mum is having the big 3 and Connor will be at home looking peachy and making everyone go ahh

I will then drink half a glass of champane and dance around like a drunk

I do love it thankfully

I always feel that I haven't given someone enough.(probably DD1 tonight)

I am off to give myself a hot bath.

PS did I mention that the tumble dryer has died and that the repair man was rude to me on the phone, so I told him not to come.(sleep deprevation you know)

school uniforms
muddy clothes
gym kit
swimming kit
ballet kit
squash gear
pooy vests
my clothes covered in baby sick
work shirts
towels
t-towels
30 pairs of pants a week etc etc

HappyTangerine · 21/01/2010 23:13

fidelma not for the first time, I wish I lived closer so that I could a) give you a huig right now and b) give you a hand from time to time! whats up with tumble dryer? I am strangely talented at fixing washing machines and tumble dryers for some reason-think I missed my calling. (Neighbours in Wales used to knock on our door rather than call out a repair man!)

I am also feeding every 2 hours, often every hour, apart from a 3 hr stint most nights when dh makes me go to bed. Its utterly exhausting, I feel I am a sleepy ghost in my own life most days so the fact that you are coping with 4 dcs makes you superhuman in my book! Good luck with the dinner party, I love cooking for big groups, its so much fun! Don't trust myself to at the moment though

Re DD-can you have a quiet word with the head?

Joseph has decided not to sleep tonight . Woke up 20 mins after calpol, screaming, one hand on his head, the other fist in his mouth. Huge burp, sleepy feed and now he's wide awake, smiling, drooling, chewing fist and doing the odd little cough. We'd better start seeing some flaming teeth teeth soon. Ashton & Parsons not doing much (but thanks for suggestion rugby) so am using Teetha and Anebesol. Methinks its going to be a long night.(yawn)

DonttellDH · 21/01/2010 23:23

hello! I am in Nov 09 ! Hope all is well x

DonttellDH · 21/01/2010 23:24

sorry you have no idea who i am do you? why would you?!! I am Pavlov

littlepea72 · 22/01/2010 06:43

HT you sound like a normal mother who has a baby to me There are some woman who can do everything, or have hubbies (lucky things!) who can do it all, so dont you worry about any of it. My house can go for days without being looked at. Sometimes i get the downstairs done one day, and then upstairs....well some other day lol....I only do any ironing if it is needed, and my hair is getting so grey but i dont have time to colour it!
As for the brake on the pram, god how many times a day must that happen arround the world, remember the poor lady in Oz, who's buggy rolled under the train!

Faith has Calpol every night before bedtime, she screams like mad with the pain, sometimes it can take me a couple of hours just rocking her, until the pain goes & she can get to sleep.

Fidelma I know it wasnt meant to, but i couldnt stop laughing at your post! Sorry! but you are so funny! How can you be having a dinner party for 10 people!! I cant have dinner for 2 never mind more lol...and can i have your cleaner for a day too! I promise to give her back!! Is your hair falling out getting worse? At the rate mine is going, well i wont have any soon! I hope you have a wonderful time tonight, enjoy yourself, and have more than half a glass...you will have earned it!

Faith sleep through the night again but i am just waiting for it to stop, just not going to try and get used to it. Princessmel she is a nightmare during the day, she might fall asleep while being pushed in pram on school run, or while having a feed, but never on her own. She has some kind of alarm that goes off if she falls asleep in her chair! She will jump awake & then scream the place down after a minute of falling asleep.

Going to get ready now, have another big meeting at the school, loads of different people going to be there with their assesments (cant spell ) off my DS. He seen a pred doctor at the hospital who thinks he might have a medical problem....only been telling them that for a couple of years, oh well....better get ready! Hope everyone else is doing ok xx

Thanks littlepea, I think yesterday was just a particularly bad day for me. Feeling a bit more like myself today, despite only getting 2 hrs sleep. I was so, so tired but couldn't sleep, kept coughing, that kept waking Joseph up. So he's v tired today and is currently snoring away on my lap. His cold doesn't seem to bad-I gave him calpol at 3pm and then 9.30pm last night. He's feeding every 1.5 to 2.5hours (every 40mins between 3 and 7am . It his teething thats worse, he seems to be in constant pain.

Faith is doing so well on the sleep front! Long may it continue

Re hair loss-I was initially quite distressed by it because itwas coming out in great handfuls. I braved the hairdressers on Saturday and a cut did it the world of good. Its now falling out just a few strands at a time.

HC aww, I saw the Oct 2010 thread. How time flies!

I keep meaning to ask-at what age is everyone going to start weaning? The hv came by on Tuesday to talk me through it. I didn't realise there were weaning courses-she has v helpfully put me down for one at the local children's centre.

Rugbylovingmum · 22/01/2010 13:09

Hi all,

well DD is definitely getting into a bad habit at night - she wakes up at 3.30 for a feed then just won't go back to sleep until 5. She just lies whinging and builds up to a cry so I soothe her and she is quiet for 5-10min then starts again. It's maddening! She isn't hungry, doesn't need changed and it's not a sore cry, just grumpy. It's like she can't get back to sleep even though she has managed fine for the past 3 months. She is now starting to take ages to settle after earlier feeds too - argh! We are getting less sleep than when she was a newborn. She has always been a great sleeper so I feel it's somehow my fault she is getting worse but I dn't know what I've done . Annoyingly she has already had 2 great 2 hour naps since we got up at 6 - she sleeps better during the day than at night but if I try to cut down on her daytime sleeps she gets really grumpy and is even worse at night. I just don't know what to do.

Sorry - moan over

Littlepea - I'm very but also really pleased F is sleeping. I hope it continues.

HT - sorry you had another crappy night. Hope his poor muth is better soon. My plan was to leave weaning until 26 weeks as I want to try giving her finger foods from the start but I'll see how early she manages sitting and shows an interest. What are you thinking?

Fidelma - how are you fitting all that in ? Enjoy the champagne - you deserve it!

fluffycats · 22/01/2010 13:52

HT - The first time I drove to my parents with Ella (30 min drive) I forgot to do her harness up on her in the car seat and didn't realise until I got her out at the other end. I was horrified with myself. The only good thing about it is I felt soo awful that I always double check now!! I have also heard lots of stories from women of my mums age who accidentally left their babies at the shops!! So I wouldn't worry too much, I think we are all about the same!

Ella must be the tiniest baby here (or ever??) she only weighted 9lb 6oz at 14 week weigh in! She is following the flow of the chart but she is still a little under it. It looks better on the new breast feeding charts though.

Fidelma Mmmmm, champagne, yum yum

Does anyone have any advice on where to put babies £250, it seems to be a mine field out there of where to save it.

xxx

wibblydibs · 22/01/2010 14:01

Theboob sorry M has been so poorly, Louis was in with the same but only for 24 hours - he's still very chesty now, think it'll take a while to shift.

HT when DD2 was about 4 or 5 months I tipped her pram up by balancing too many coats/bags on the handle I just caught her before she flew out! I still have to shut my eyes and block it out when I think about it now!

Princessmel I love my P&T pram, absolute godsend in the show - also, Louis doesn't sleep through the day unless rocked/fed etc...I've decided not to fight it

Fidelma are you allowed to live in Scotland and not like Robert Burns?? Good luck tonight.

Well, Louis is not doing great at night either - yesterday he woke at 3.30am and didn't settle back until after 6am by which time the girls were up so was a bit of a grumpy mummy and relied far too heavily on cbeebies. Today is marginally better - so that's progress hey! Think I'll have a full glass of wine tonight to celebrate making it to Friday - wonder if that's classed as binge drinking

Have a good day everyone.

wibblydibs · 22/01/2010 14:03

Actually, I've just remembered that I left the brake off the pram once and it rolled into a stationery car...that was DD2 as well, think I might go and give the poor chick a cuddle!

HappyTangerine · 22/01/2010 15:32

Bless you all, you have made me feel so much better about pram incident yesterday. Thank you xxx

Joseph seems to sense I'm not well and is is a wake & active for 2 hours/sleep for 2 hrs mood. So I have been digging out obscure dvds and am currently watching Patrick Swayze in North & South.

rugby Not sure what to do for the best re weaning. HV keen on purees and ice cube trays but I can see me going in the finger food direction!

I've just signed up for my 10th Race for Life

HappyTangerine · 22/01/2010 15:41

fluffycats-we went for the Co-op Ethical Baby Bond. I had a fairly strict ethical criteria and the only 2 that fit the bill were the Co-ops and the Child Trust Funds Shariah baby bond so I didn't have to compare many.Added bonus if you set up a direct debit of £10 a month or more - £30 Mothrcare vouchers with the CTF/£20 Amazon voucher with Co-Op.

Treats · 22/01/2010 17:56

OMG, I haven't posted for AGES.... I find it quite easy to read posts while I'm feeding, but not so easy to write them. But I've got Isabel balanced on one wrist while she has her feed so can sort of type at the moment.

Sorry not to have kept up with everyone, but it's really good to know that you're all still here and that your babies are growing strong and healthy. At Isabel's last weigh (13 weeks, 3 weeks ago), she was exactly 13lbs so sticking nicely to her centile.

I'm currently mix feeding which is working really well for us. She had a bottle of formula to send her to bed from about 5 weeks, but I now give her one at lunchtime as well. The rest are breast feeds, so I've still got that option if I ever need to do an emergency feed. We're not really in a routine - more a sort of pattern of sleep, then feed, then play, then sleep again. It works well throughout the day, but unfortunately she then becomes a bit of a madam in the evening and won't go down for her night time sleep until 10pm. DH is getting himself all worked up about it,but Im a bit more relaxed. She does sleep through the night after all (sorry ).

She's becoming absolutely adorable now. I don't know about anyone else but I didn't fall in love with her straightaway - I think I was in 'crisis mode' for a long time after she was born - but now that I've got more used to having her around and my life has adapted to having her in it, I get a real feeling of joy when I play with her or see her smiling at me. I can't believe I have to go back to work in ten weeks....... .

She's finished her feed and is wailing for a wind, so I have to go. Will try and keep posting more regularly. Best wishes to all.....

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 22/01/2010 18:16

Fidelma - I know how you feel with trying to deal with older kids plus baby. Today I took them both to playgroup which was ok. Then back home I was shuttling between the lounge where dd was kicking on the floor and outside where ds was playing in the sandpit. Hoping the babyweight will fall off.

princessmel · 22/01/2010 19:29

DEFFO agree with last post. I need to be split into 3 or turned into an octopus!! Not enough hands for all the children and things that need to be done.
I have started to keep ds1 up for 20 mins after I put dd to bed, just so I can give him a bit more 1-1 attention (not really that though as I usually have ds2 with me feeding). He seems to really need it at the moment.

Fidelma I often have days like that! (not the dinner party bit tho...if friends come over we get take aways!)
Ballet, Football, scooters, bikes, assemblys, school uniform, water bottles, party presents, teas, washing etc etc etc!! So much going on in my head!

I went to town today and got bits for ds1's party bags. We're doing a budget belated party for him tomorrow. A film and Mcdonalds after. 10 kids including ds1 and dd.
It's budget because we seeing a film at the Kids Am showing at our cinema. Each week they have a slightly old film that's been out for a while. It's only 95p per person! We're seeing G Force about Special Agent guinea pigs! ds and dd haven't seen it yet We always wait till the film comes to the £1 cinema (as we call it) rather than pay full price!!

While I was in town I got some fab Christmas bargains in Wilkinsons
All the xmas stuff was reduced to 10p!!! I got wrapping paper, disposable santa table cloths, gift tags, santa teddies, melamine xmas tree plates, mini santa hat teddies, a reindeer dressing up set (well 3 of those) and best of all a 5ft xmas tree!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Between me and my 2 friends we bought loads of stuff!!!!

Hope you're all ok. I'm having yummy Pizza Express pizzas and a beer for dinner

devilsadvocaat · 22/01/2010 19:58

arrrrrggghhhh.

i am not enjoying bf atm.

finding it hard with ds1 needing attention.

i was looking longingly at the formula when i was in boots today.

i feel so tired out with the responsibility of doing all the feeds.

charlie has has 2 sleeps today, both less than an hour i swear he's ben at the coffee jar. he is still feeding now. that's not right is it? i wouldn't mind if he slept through the night

gah

Clothilde · 22/01/2010 20:54

Hello. Can I come and play? My baby boy was born on 2 October, and is currently dozing away on my boob as I type.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 22/01/2010 22:11

Welcome to the thread Clothilde. Congrats on the birth of your DS. My DD was born on 16th Oct she is about to be woken for a dream feed.

I am hoping to be dozing away shortly. Fingers crossed for everyone to have a good nights sleep.

Night all.

Hello all!

twinklegreen What a horrible rude woman!

boob Oh poor Madison, I hope that she's getting better x

HT my continued sympathy for little Joseph - his pain, your lack of sleep... I'm amazed you still sound like you're functioning. And running in a Race for Life?! Wow, I'm itching to get back into running, but boobs don't fit into my old sports bra - sounds like a stupid excuse, but with size F I have to be strapped in! Still have dreams of running a half marathon again in September

treats hello again! Glad to hear Isabel is doing well

fidelma boggled at your multitasking magnificence!

princessmel sounds like a super shopping trip

fluffycats We also have ethical banking for the CTF and went with the Forrester Friendly society, seems ok

Clothilde welcome and congratulations on DS birth. Feel free to post your birth story

HC hugs, hope you have a good sleep tonight x

Annalise appears to have lost 10oz in a week and has fallen to below 11lbs at 16weeks Hope it was a fault in the scales; the midwife wasn't sure they were acurate so will see next week. Absolutely horrified that she's going backwards, I mean she vomits A LOT but feeds for about an hour every 2.5-3hrs... wah

rubyslippers · 24/01/2010 08:31

i am just marking my place to come back to later

i think we are out of the 4 month growth spurt hell

i am starting to feel slightly more human

will catch up on the thread

hope everyone is ok
