Hi everyone

Sorry to hear everyone is having bad nights Amelie is a pretty good sleeper but between the 3 of them they always have me up at least once during the night. It's usually ds, but then he'll wake Amelie up when he comes in, then disturbs dd1 when he goes back to bed (they share a room) grrr!

Nice to have you back IDOB

Anyway I just need to have a bit of a rant... sorry.

I went to ASDA petrol station today, Amelie was hungry and as soon as I stopped the car she started to scream, I got out and was trying to do a quick fill up and then get moving again so I could get back to feed her. I was just about to start filling up when the lady at the other side of the pump poked her head through and SHOUTED at me 'your little one is HITTING your BABY!!!' (in a 'I'm going to report you to social services' kind of way) I think I just stared at her as I was a bit shocked
a) dd1 is 4 and she has never hit her sister ever, she's old enough to know she has to be gentle
b) If she was hitting her how is that my fault? I can hardly get them all out of the car in the forecourt to keep an eye on them!
I popped my head in the car to aske dd1 what she was doing and she was actually trying to get Amelie to suck her hand to stop her crying (I brilliant trick daddy has taught her ... not!) So I told her to be gentle and carried on filling up the car. Well anyway this woman sat in her car glaring at me until I had finished and got back in the car, then was watching to see what I was going to do! It took all my will power to stop myself going over and telling her to p%$ off. Why do people think they have a right to stick there noses in?? I would of minded if she'd have said 'excuse me I think your dd1 might be hitting your baby' in a nice way it was just the tone she used that put my back up... grrr.

Sorry rant over... just needed to get it off my chest.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 19/01/2010 21:33

sorry to hear about that twinkle. stoopid woman.

If you have kids its like a license for other people to judge you. I call them the baby police. Like when you didn't put a hat on the baby cos you are rushing and grannies look in the pram and suck in their cheeks and tut.

ignore is all you can do.

fidelma · 19/01/2010 22:32

Just done a dream feed off to bed in the hope of a good night!

fidelma · 20/01/2010 09:13

I am exhausted.Off to see the HV to check weight gain etc.Woke every half hour.

CalypsoFramboise · 20/01/2010 10:27

Morning!

ruby and fidelma goodness me, your babies are making you work so hard, you must be horribly tired
Sympathy to all those similarly knackered xx

Annalise went 7pm to 6am! I was up at 11pm as she stirred when I normally give her a dream feed but she'd nodded off by the time I returned from the loo, and I was up at 3am, again when she'd normally feed, but she was dead to the world. Didn't sleep after as I had to pump (how do other people manage - I have such engorgement?!). Her sleeping has been very erratic though, was up every 1.5hrs last 2 nights, so this may not last so long!

She has however been extremely vommitty of late, I mean cascades of puke all the time She mysteriously seems to be putting on 150gm (4.5oz) a week steadily though, but dreading the mess of a sicky weaned baby!

HT are you ok? very quiet!

Hugs and soft comfy quiet beds to all xx

theboob · 20/01/2010 12:43

sorry I have not been on for a while , I fel as if i've been to hell and back , Madison has been in hospital for 8 day's with bronciolitis
she grew poorly and just got worse and worse , she had to be tube fed and was in oxygen , at one point they warned me she may have needed c-pap or assisted breathing eg being put on a ventilator
I have not slept in a week really and i'm emotionally drained , she is home today and is a million times better than she was , the out reach nurses are going to visit her to see how she is getting on , the nurses were fantastic and helped me calm down so much , I was hysterical and they thought she was my first baby , feeding is slow now but she's getting stronger all the time , my boobs are really slow adjusting from the pump to feed's again , I will catch up on the thread later , hope your all well x x

theboob · 20/01/2010 12:45

really sore not slow.........told you I was tired

princessmel · 20/01/2010 13:29

Oh boob I know how you feel It is so scary isn't it? When we were in hospital they mentioned the c pap thing to us too, very scary. Sorry can't type more as f needs me, but wanted to post something xx

theboob · 20/01/2010 14:15

princess mel , how long did it take for freddie's cough and wheeze to go ?

princessmel · 20/01/2010 15:55

Only just going now..so about 8 weeks. It got less and less gradually. The coughing fits used to wake him in the night though, they were quite fierce

It wasn't until he started to get better that I could see how poorly he'd looked before bless him..x

Rugbylovingmum · 20/01/2010 16:04

Hi all,

not sure if anyone will remember me but I was on the ante-natal thread as IDOB (I didn't think I'd been on this thread yet but I noticed my 'IDOB' name in twinklegreens post so maybe I have and my poor sleep deprived brain has forgotten). I have been rubbish at keeping up with mumsnet since DD came along but hopefully I'll manage to get on more regularly now.

Caitlin is now 14 weeks , where has the time gone? She is such a smiley little girl and seems to be doing new things every day. She is kicking loads and swinging both legs in the air but hasn't worked out how to roll over yet. We have been taking her swimming which she loves and she is getting better at grabbing her toys and the rattles on her activity gym but she is still getting very frustrated when she can't get her toys into her mouth . She has hit that stage where she just wants to chew everything and as soon as I pick her up she starts sucking on my face so I am permenantly covered in drool - lovely .

She has been a great 'routine' baby, taking a quick feed every 3 hours throughout the day and night and sleeping well - she had just started sleeping for longer stretches at night too. However, now she is 3 months old it has all changed. We put her in bed at 8 and on a good night she will feed at 1 and 4 (going straight back to sleep in her cot) then get up around 6 but on a bad night she wakes up several times and takes up to 2 hours to settle back to sleep . She has never been difficult to settle in the past - she didn't really cry at night - but I think she had sore gums for a couple of weeks. They seem better now but the sleeping is still totally unpredictable - we have had quite a few bad nights recently and I am shattered but last night was better so fingers crossed we have a good night tonight too. I have no idea what makes the difference and I have given up trying to work it out. We were trying a dream feed before xmas (EBM or formula in a bottle at 11pm) but it didn't seem to make her sleep and longer and the little monkey has started refusing the bottle.

Well that's a bit of a rambling catch up on what we have been doing, I'm off now to read through the thread and see what everyone else has been up to.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 20/01/2010 17:40

Calypso - if DD sleeps longer than normal my boobs have usually leaked on the bed and I grab her as soon as I can to relieve the pain.

theboob - sounds like a really frightening experience! Hope you and DD are recovered from the trauma.

Ruby - DD is also really smily which is lovely because DS wasn't at all. She is pleased to see everyone.

fidelma · 20/01/2010 21:28

boob what a total nightmare. It took C a good few weeks to get over his bad chest infection.I got a bit phobic and kept him away from everyone. It is so hard with other DC as they bring in so many colds from school etc.I have been very strict at keeping anyone with a cold off the baby.Everyone also washes their hands when they come in, but still the colds get through.I hope that you are Ok.Hugs to you both.

HT I am also missing you where are you?

calypsogreat night fingers crossed.

rugbylovingmumGreat to hear from you.

I didn't go to see the health visitor as C went to sleep and my mum was here so I went to bed bliss

I have made 2 huge curries for our dinner party on Friday, so feeling a bit better about that

2 hens are now laying again so I made everyone pancakes for super with 3 eggs yum yum.I have a great recipe for small pancakes.

C has just woken up so off to fee.I will catch up later.

HumphreysCorner · 20/01/2010 21:38

Aw, theboob, what a frightening time you have all had. Hoping M continues to improve.

Big supportive squeeze to those not getting much sleep, you must be exhausted.

Took Matthew to be weighed today-he is 13lb 12oz and 61cm long at 15+6 weeks. Asked about his 12 week jabs and was told I should have made the appointment myself so he is having them on the 2nd Feb at just under 18 weeks.

Take care!

it is SOOOOOOO reassuring to hear that you're having crap nights too!! THe number of people who keep asking me "is she sleeping through yet?" was making me think that Maia was being abnormal! She was weighed last week and was 12lb 10oz at 13 weeks (exactly double her birth weight - wee chubster!).

We had a lovely day today - had a lovely long sleep from 12.30 until just after 3 - and DP wonders why the place looks like a tip??!!

HC - can't believe you have to make appointments yourself! Here its all done automatically through child health - justas well or I'd forget!

The boob - hope you and madison are doing well xx

Calypso - if it helps - I don't think that weaning babies are as sicky - unless they are sucking bananas/baby rice etc through a straw. I'm looking forward to weaning to get away form the sicky stage!

littlepea72 · 21/01/2010 06:10

Hey everyone

Faith slept through last night!! she went down at 9pm & i didnt hear her until 5.45am, an unbroken nights sleep! It may not happen ever again, but i feel alive after 1 night. Got her weight done & at 14 weeks she is 17lb , she looks like a 6 month old.

Theboob, i hope M is ok, poor wee thing, poor you!

twinklegreen · 21/01/2010 08:19

boob that sounds really scary, hope she is fully better soon.

rugbylovingmum nice to see you again, glad to hear everything's going well.

woohoo to babycalypso and babylittlepea don't feel as guilty about having a good sleeper now

fidelma glad you got some rest yesterday.

HC we have to book our own appointments too, you've just reminded me to book Amelie's 3rd set now.

Some good weight gaining going on! lal that's good going doubling her birth weight I think it will be a while before Amelie hits double (18lb) she's still only 13lb8oz, my dd1 was about 10mths before she had doubled. It just goes to show that all the constant feeding is taking effect!

Well, I went to visit dd1 new school for September yesterday, it was sooo lovely (I did my teacher training there) It only has 4 classes and DD1 will have 19 in her class in September which is a lovely number, not too big not too small. My last class before I finished work was 33 children, that's far too many IMO. Also the headteacher offered me a job doing supply for them, which is great, we will be living about 4 doors down from the school so it will be very handy. That is if we EVER sell this b*&£%$y house and get our new one built!

rubyslippers · 21/01/2010 08:55

morning lovlies

well - we had cranial osteopathy and altho' she was relaxed during the treatment she still woke every 2 hours last night

after a week of this i am teary all the time

theboob - so sorry to hear that you have been through the mill but pleased Madison is on the mend

littlepea - woo hoo for Faith

HC - we have to make our own appts for jabs here, but we get sent a letter from the HA to tell us to ring our surgery. Sounds like M is thriving

hi to rugby and lal princess and fidelma - how are your non sleepers doing?

sorry if i have missed anyone but hope you are all ok

xx

princessmel · 21/01/2010 11:48

Hello

Hi again IDOB/Ruby

ruby Freddie does sleep!! He went from 8pm- 3am- 7am last night It's just in the day that he only sleeps on me...if I put him down he wakes up and cries. So I don't bother putting him down!
Out of interest how many of the babies on this thread stay asleep in the pram/cot during the day? (pushing the pram doesn't count). So with no slings, being held or pushed, rocked etc.

I hope the osteopath helps you both. I used one with ds and dd and found them really great.

Rugbylovingmum · 21/01/2010 13:36

Hi PrincessMel - Caitlin sleeps in the pram or cot during the day without any pushing etc. We have always swaddled her, although she is starting to grow out of the blankets, then we just place her in the pram, pat her a couple of times and she usually goes straight off. It's great when we are at home but she takes ages to sleep when we are out - too much to look at I think - and she won't sleep on me, the sofa, a chair etc so if we are visiting friends I have to hope we can fit the pram in somewhere.

Ruby - I'm so sorry you are struggling with sleep. We were like that last week and it's so hard. I hope the osteopath helps!

Boob - I'm sorry M has had such a hard time, it must have been really stressful. I'm glad she is on the mend.

HC - we have to make our own appointments but at least we get letters so we know when to call and bok them in.

Twinkle - that sounds like a successful school visit and it's great to have the option of doing some supply work.

Littlepea and Calypso - that's fantastic news on the sleeping! It gives me hope .

I've just had DD weighed and at 14 weeks she weighs 14lbs. She is staying just above the 50th centile - it's great not to have to worry about her feeding. She eats really quickly and I was worried she might not get enough but she is clearly just efficient. We had a mixed night last night - she went to bed fine at 8, fed at 11.30 and went straight back to sleep but then woke at 3.30 and was up until 5 . She was then up at 6 as usual. I know it's not that bad really but she used to go back to sleep really quickly so I'm not used to being up and I just don't know what to do with her to help her sleep again.

HappyTangerine · 21/01/2010 14:01

Hello (waves) I'm still here, just been having a few blue days. Joseph is in terrible pain from teething and I'm not well. We went to the home of one of dh's friends on Sunday which was lovely as all have children, host/hostess's is only a few days older than Joseph. Had nice time but came away from there feeling so inept-she was running around making dessert and cakes with God knows how many people milling about in the kitchen and their ds happily being passed from person to person. Joseph would go to his dad for a few minutes then cried to be back on me and be fed so I couldn't socialise that much. Not being able to keep on top of the housework and my courses has been really getting me down and seeing super-mum, as lovely as she was, just made it worse. Amd she has a toddler to deal with as well as the newborn who sleeps through the night .

Please tell me I'm not a terrible mum and am not the only exhausted mum who has ever forgot to put the brake on the pram. We came home from a walk earlier and I used both hands to open our sticky door. Turned round and the pram was trundling merrily (thankfully slowly)down our v flat drive. I got to it just as it tapped the closed gate, he was fine but I scared myself stupid. It won't happen again-have just ordered a pram tether. Trying not to beat myself up about it now.

I have a stinking cold which Ive now given to Joseph. Am in terror of it turning into broncilitis. How does it start? Joseph has a little cough but can go hours and then just cough once or twice. Kudos to any of you coping with toddlers when you are ill, I don't know how you do it x

Joe is sleeping a bit better though, despite the teething. Not sure if that is down to Calpol which I am giving him 2.5 of in th evening a the teething pain seems so much worse. We bought a new cot and he's going in it for a little play to get used to it. I did put him down asleep in his new pram the other night and to my amazement, he stayed fast asleep in it for 1hr 15. The next day I was ill and took him in the bed with us. He stayed asleep and when he wanted to feed, I somehow managed to feed lying down! Haven't done that since week 3! So making small steps of improvement.HV weighed him yesterday and he is now 13lb 2-he's put on 20oz in 2 weeks .

HappyTangerine · 21/01/2010 14:25

OK, caught up with thread now

theboob how terrifying for you all.Glad Madison is now on the mend

littlepea yay Faith!!

twinkle clearly that woman has nothing going on in her life that she feels the need to comment n yours

fidelma lal princssmel and ruby*, you so have my sympathies with the sleep issues. Its exhausting isn't it? DH got some time off work so I could rest whilst ill but J just screamed and I can't tune out while he's crying like that. We tried cranial osteopathy early on but found it made little difference.

Calypso Engorgement if the baby sleeps for longer-doesn't seem fair does it! I wake Joseph up if he goes beyond 4.5 hrs, the pain in my boobs is too much otherwise and I don't want to risk mastitis again.

rugbylovingmum and Halfmumhalfbiscuit -helloo! (waves)

Baby scout Well done on being such a star on your journey

Sorry to anyone I miseed, love to all x

HumphreysCorner · 21/01/2010 14:45

Hi HT-sorry to hear you are not so well. Remember, you are a fab mummy. It was last Thursday when I knelt on Matthew's foot and made him sob.

There is a due in Oct 2010 thread

Rugbylovingmum · 21/01/2010 14:46

HT - your post made me smile (not about the teething ) and I just had to pass this on. It was my birthday on Sunday and we had some friends to stay for the weekend. When they were leaving my friend said that she found it quite intimidating that I had an immaculate house, home cooked meals, cakes and biscuits and DD was happily being passed around. I had to admit that we spent all Saturday frantically tidying and hoovering and dusting for the first time in ages. DH had cooked while I tried to amuse DD - he had also come home early on Friday to prepare everything and bake a cake - and I just finished up when they arrived. DD was feeling happy because she had spent the last 2 weeks grumping with sore gums and was just pleased the pain had finally stopped. We were both quite lively because we were running on caffeine and sugar to combat the exhaustion (plus it was great to see our friends). It's easy to look like supermum for a day when you know people are coming - it might be a different story any other time.

Oh yes and I took DD out in the pram today, failed to notice that DH hadn't clicked the wheel on properly when he took it out of the boot and almost toppled it over a kerb . I got such a fright so I totally sympathise with you.

twinklegreen · 21/01/2010 15:07

My sister did that once, she hadn't clicked the double buggy out properly and was trundling along, when she put pressure on it to mount the kerb it completely folded up, engulfing her 2 little ones inside! No harm done you've got to laugh... these things do happen!
