scout glad babyscout did so well on the flight and with his first bottle

claypso I took ds2 to the panto with us and he slept the whole time, throughout all the noise!! But I would have been feeding a lot too if he'd woke!

twinkle is it you who has the lifft sling?? What hold are you using at the moment? I can still hold F in the lying down one when he's tired but the other day I tried him in the front lift (where he's sitting up and looking outwards) and I couldn't seem to get it right. He was sort of bent in half with his feet by his face! He's supposed to cross his legs in front of him, but I couldn't manage that. Tbh I do find it a bit tricky as it seems snug.

Moan time...
I'm getting a bit fed up with the colic tbh now. It's been practicaly (sp) every night since 7 weeks...and is getting to me a bit.

I KNOW he doesn't cry as much as some colicky babies but the amount he does is enough for me!

He always does it at eastenders/eating my dinner time and this is also the time when I'm getting very tired. We have to allternate standing up with him , gently jigging or swaying and then attempting to feed him, but then this usually brings on the tears again. He has to his crying/screaming spell, then become very relaxed then will feed and go to sleep. And so do I! 8.45 last night, 8.30 the night before..

Also a bit peeved after reading some posts on another thread about how awful Phil and Teds prams are. We just bought one last week!!
I got it as we walk through the park (accross fields etc) every day to school and also through a gravely/stony carpark and my old buggies couldn't cope with those very well. Plus I just wanted one! Everything else I've had for ds2 has been lent or given to us by friends and I wanted to choose and buy something myself.
I know it's only their opinions but it's made me feel a bit glum. Very silly I know. But I don't want the pram to go wrong or turn out to be a bad buy....it has a 12 month guarrentee(sp). Plus I had read lots of other good reviews about it too...Oh well.

I was in the baby clinic the other day and could hear other mums talking to the HV about their babies, and they were saying 'she has a feed at x, y, z o'clock etc' and I was thinking I couldn't say that atall about Freddie!! He just feeds whenever and for however long he wants! And it totally depends if we're in or out as he'll sleep for ages in his car seat but if we're home doing nothing, he'll feed for ages. I'm not moaning about this btw! Just commenting.

While I was there and talking to the HV , she said I should start trying to 'put him down' for sleeps, as if he would be that easy! dd was going down by this age but I'd had to train her, I don't feel ready to do that with F yet. I also mentioned how he sleeps on me all day and she did a face! I said when he's awake I do all my jobs while he's happy on his mat/chair/gym etc and that the other day I had to make lunch and wash my hair but knew F wouldn't be happy for long enough for me to do do both, so I chose to wash my hair and eat biscuis for lunch...she deffo did a face then!!!

Hope you're all well.

princessmel · 16/01/2010 08:43

lol Ruby...
ds2 slept 8.45pm - 2am then till 7am and still asleep...but I do have colic to deal with....

twinklegreen · 16/01/2010 16:17

Hi everyone

calypso the ballet sounds wonderful, what a lovely idea!

Princessmel yes I have a Lifft sling, have tried her in the 'budda' position a few times when she's been wide awake, but it does take me a while to get it right. I tend to put her in in a sitting position but facing me, that way if she nods of I can just slip her down into the lying down position. I also managed to feed her in the sling last week, it worked quite well as we were in the middle of a field in the snow and there was nowhere to sit, I did need a scarf to cover up with though.

have a good night everyone who is going tonight! enjoy!

glad the flight went ok scout

kowaikiwi · 16/01/2010 21:35

Hi everyone, just catching up again. I haven't been on in ages because I thought I'd been busy but when I tried to remember what I've been doing all day everyday, nothing came to mind!! Does anyone else feel like that sometimes?
I know there's still some hard times out there for some of you, but if you do what I did and read the last 3 pages, I think you'll realise that our sense of humour seems to have come back! Compare the tone of the posts to a good 6 weeks ago - what a difference!

Sadie is doing pretty well, but thanks to whoever posted about the 12 week growth spurt, my DP laughs because I reckon she has a growth spurt every other week, but she's reverted to feeding exactly every 3 hours and her sleeping patterns have gone a bit weird (i.e she sleeps more during the day - not necessarily during the night though!) so that could be what it is. Her jabs on Tues might upset things more too, so won't expect much over the next week.
We've managed to wean her off the hairdryer (down to using it only once/twice a week woohoo!) and she seems to like a Baby Einstein lullaby CD now, so hope that keeps working. She's pretty good at going down when I catch her at the right time, before she starts really kicking off.
She's rolled from front to back a couple of times on her own, holds her head up really well and is almost grabbing and holding things - she's come so far so quickly!

Possibly going back to work FT from 3 May which is v scary (new job, so also exciting), so thinking about introducing formula, but not for another month or 2, I like knowing I'm feeding her. MIL2B and DP can do 1 day each per week but I'm scared about how I'll feel dropping her off somewhere for the other 3 days. Wish my NZ family were here to help with childcare so do they.

Sorry, enough about me. Nice to hear how everyone is getting on. Keep up the good work
KK

rubyslippers · 18/01/2010 10:42

i cannot believe there has been no takers for baby Ruby!

she woke every 2 hours last night to feed including a mega one at 1 am so am thinking we are in 4 month growth spurt territory a little early

am going to call the health visitor to have a chat and see what she says

fidelma · 18/01/2010 12:40

Ahhhhh Ruby

I think that they are all getting hungry.C baby did that a few weeks ago but has settled back to 2 hourly feeds during the day and 3 hourly at night.I suspect that he will remain on that until solids are established.I'm not going to rush him on to solids, I have however got organic pears made into baby food in the freezer

I went shopping this morning to buy school coats etc.It felt fantastic to be out in the sunshine

peachespaige · 18/01/2010 12:43

Hi all.

Ruby Fred is feeding every hour and 20 mins if that makes sense. He wakes, feeds then is up again another hour and 20mins later.
Im soo very tired, I have 2 other boys to deal with as well...

Im really considering changing to Formula, I dont really want to but its not improving and he has only done one night with one feed in all his 13 weeks!

What do you all reckon?

Well done baby scout and kowaikiwi you sound so much more positive.

rubyslippers · 18/01/2010 13:38

great that you made it out Fidelma ... we are having a lazy day (well DS is, as i am tryng to sort all our washing out etc after our week away)

Peaches - not sure about formula. It didn't help when DS switched from mix to fully FF and he slept through from 6.5 months really

you have to see how you go really

i am trying to get past this 16 week spurt and see how i feel - i have quite a lot of expressed milk in the freezer which i could give to ruby and move her onto bottles (which i will have to do at some point as i am going back to work in June)

princessmel · 18/01/2010 17:53

Hi all

I am sure my F feeds as often as yours (in the daytime)Peaches. With the odd longer gap if we've been out in car and he's slept for longer. I really feel like I feed and hold him most of the day , broken up with 10-15 minute bursts under the gym or in his chair. He naps on me and feeds whenever he likes. But dd is at school all day now so I am able to do this.
By 7/8 ish I am very tired though and feel drained.

Today I was at home with F all morning then walked to a friends for a cuppa, then walked to school and back. It was nice to be able to push the pram without any snow!!!

After school I made cakes with dd whilst F stayed asleep in the pram (rare these days!!!)and ds played with his friend.

ruby I have cried on the phone to the HV in the past, it made me feel better!
Didn't change much though!

fidelma · 18/01/2010 20:58

peachespaige Connor at his very best does a dreamfeed then 2 other feeds before his 7am wakeup.I don't need to pace the floor with him, just feed lying down then back to bed.I really don't expect much better than that for the next 2-4 months. He is a big baby. However I feel much better now that he is having good naps during the day.I would find it really tough if he was on me all the time. You sound like you need a wee rest.Have a cuppa and a chocolate (glass of wine) on me.

fidelma · 18/01/2010 21:17

Just when I think it's ok to breath DD2 finds out thatDD1 has drawen all over a photo of her friends,DD2 gets out of bed saying that she feels dizy,("you need to sleep you are exhausted!!!")dd1 has a bad tummy (wind!!!!!)Ds1 then has a night terror and DD1 gets out of bed to see if she can help !!!!DD2 goes to the loo,DD1 goes to the loo,DS1 watches rory the racing car and gets over his night terror, connor has had an extra feed, S*

all back in bed

off to find some chocolate and have a bath

DH playing squash, well he did wait until they were all in bed !!!!!(before they all got up again)

Give me a baby any day !!!!!!!

devilsadvocaat · 19/01/2010 08:50

why is ds1 waking in the night and early in the morning? i have such big rings under my eyes. i look like crap.

have also resigned myself that it will be this way until we start to wean only another couple of months. i feel like i've come this far...

wailing beginning in the background so better go.

HumphreysCorner · 19/01/2010 09:29

Morning all you zombies with red and puffy eyes I will join you as Matthew woke at 2, 4 and 6am last night. I too believe only weaning will help him sleep longer through the night. Not doing it yet though.

Going to get him weighed tomorrow and ask why he hasn't had his 12 week jabs yet.

Off for a coffee morning at my aunties if I can see to drive through the freezing fog.

Oh, and it was a year ago today that I got a BFP and started to feel sick. Sleep deprivation has got to be an improvement on morning sicknes hasn't it???

OP posts:
fidelma · 19/01/2010 09:53

Connor was awake at least 4 times during the night.I to have bags under my eyes and feel exhausted.

I need to sort out the house and start making food for a dinner party on Friday (for 10!!!!)

It does help to hear that we are all having the same nights.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 19/01/2010 14:39

Hi ladies. Haven't been on here for a while.

Good to hear how everyone is getting on.

I'm trying (and failing) to follow the CLB routines. DD never quite manages to stay awake long enough in the afternoon/evening as suggested and sometimes wants double feeds. So she is still waking in the night unlike the babies in the book

She has a cold too and keeps me awake with her grunting noises. I dreamt she slept through last night but no she was up at 3am and then 6am. I know she isn't hungry at 6am because she isn't crying just gurgling which still wakes me up and is gutting as you just wish you could have more sleep.

DS messes up her routines too, always waking her up or trying to get my attention. Its difficult to keep them both happy.

To those who's babies are keeping them up hourly - I hope it passes soon. They'll soon be 3 . DS grew up so quickly. You'll look back on this hell time and wonder what happened to your little baby when replaced by hulking great lad/lass.

rubyslippers · 19/01/2010 15:23

hi halfmum - good to "see" you again ...

it is hard juggling a baby and toddler isn't it? someone always needs something

guess what i am going to moan about now!? Have posted this in breast and bottle feeding as well so here goes:

anyway, we had the worst night since the 6 week spurt last night

BUT she didn't want to feed - she seemed ot be getting upset at the breast. Would feed for a minute then pull off upset and this would go on and on

if i sat her up she was happy and alert, looking round

she finally settled at 11.30 pm (after being fed to sleep)

I kept her in bed with me, and she fed at 2.30, 3.45, 5.00, 6.30, 7.15 - i can't do this

last night was odd - I bathed her, she had a big feed, went to sleep at 8.30 pm but awoke at 9.10 pm and that was it ... so no rest

the thing which kept me going during the early days of feeding was the thought it would get better - we are now back to her feeding like a new born and i have lost the feeling there is light at the end of the tunnel

thanks for letting me moan - it is reassuring to have all you cyber mums keeping me going

big hugs to everyone else going through sleep deprivation hell

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 19/01/2010 15:54

ruby that sound awful.
you must be knackered.

sometimes dd doesnt seem to want to feed. today it was due to wind but can be too much distraction.

did the hv suggest anything. Give them a ring (if they are nice obv).

today i am deliberately keeping dd from sleeping on the school run today at 3pm and giving her a nap at 4pm instead to hopefully keep her awake for a better 6.30ish feed.

i hope they can help you on breast and bottle feeding.

fidelma · 19/01/2010 18:40

halfmumBurn that book I did with DD1 (have since bought it twice more)

I read it again last week but it only stresses me out!!!!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 19/01/2010 19:20

Know what you mean fidelma. Needless to say DD did not want a nap at 4pm. Book actually says nap at 4.45pm. DD wanted a nap at 4.30pm. It drives you mad. Especially as DS only goes and wakes her up and cocks it all up anyway.

I try to use it as a guide rather than religiously as, like you say, it does stress you out/make you go mad (especially if v tired).
