I have a question for everyone, are all your little ones still in the same bedroom as you? Or what age will you put them into their own room? The HV & doctor both asked me this, and most people i know have done it from age 2 months onwards. I had my DS in with me untill he was 6 months & i was going to do this with Faith. So i was wondering about everyone else. Also.....has anyone been doing any fitness dvd's in the house, if so, which ones??

Scout19075 · 12/01/2010 18:35

littlepea We still have Sebby (11 mos tomorrow) in with us, for various reasons still working on getting the second bedroom ready for him, unintentionally co-sleeping the last two weeks (he doesn't like the mattress in his moses basket, no matter what we do to make it better, and I gave up that fight), and the fact that we're off to the States for 2+ weeks so he can meet the rest of his family, so no point in shocking him into his own room when he's going to be back sharing with us on holiday. At home people put their babies in their own room the first night they come home but I have to admit, I like having him in with us. I think he does, too. I'm not sure when we'll move him probably around the spring/summer when it's not so cold.

Has anyone else done a long-distance trip with their newbies? Any suggestions for the in-flight nappy bag? I have: a whole (small) pack of nappies, a pack of wipes, disposable changing mats, vests, sleepers, bibs, nappy cream, Calpol, baby saline (he's recently had a cold), his cloths, a blanket, and the cuddly I'm starting to use as a comforter instead of my breast all of the time.

devilsadvocaat · 12/01/2010 19:52

lilpea, charlie is still in with us in the moses. can't see him fitting in it at 6mo tho! ds1 was in our room til 6mo so will do the same.

so bored of being at home today. ds1 waking a lot in the night for some unknown reason so he's a right grump to be around.

hope there is no more snow...

littlepea72 · 12/01/2010 19:53

I think i agree with you scout, and i too would rather wait until April before moving her into another room. As for the travel, we live in Germany were my DH works, and in April we will travel back to Northern Ireland for a couple of weeks. We will drive to Amsterdam, overnight boat to Newcastle, drive to Strandaer in Scotland, boat to Belfast sounds alot when writing it! Its going to take a small suitcase for just her overnight bag! Problem we have is that the overnight boat wont allow travel cots. The cabin we have, has 1 double bed & 1 single bed, so i dont know were she will sleep. Not taking pram as it takes up to much room in car (picking up smaller one we have at my mums), so dont know how we will work it. Where in the states are you from? Sounds like you have everything you will need, at least you dont need bottle etc

devilsadvocaat · 12/01/2010 20:34

how about this kind of thing?

rubyslippers · 12/01/2010 20:35

just a quickie - am staying with my parents for a few days so have been travelling and am shattered

Hi to Lal and Scout, and to everyone

Ruby is still in with me and will be for the forseeable future as she feeds at least twice per night

yay for AMelie taking a bottle and Faith's weight gain - she is doing very well

great news about Freddie - Ruby did that tonight ... eyes open as she went down, and then closed - not heard a peep since

am off to bed myself after i have got DS down

xx

HappyTangerine · 13/01/2010 12:02

Hi to all and congrts on all the weight gain and improved sleep.

welcome back lal and scout!

Joseph in with us for the forseeable future nd I was aiming for a year, although he will only sleep on either me or dh so we're not even co-sleeping atm. DH and I now taking it in shifts to be downstairs with a baby sleeping on our chest whilst the other one gets a few hours. Its the only way Joe will sleep at night.I'd love to be in the same bed as dh and ds instead of getting up every 2-3 hours. He won't go longer than hrs without a feed day or night and cannot self settle-I try every night(and day for naps) but he doesn't just cry, he works himself up into such a state that he starts coughing and trying to catch his breath. It then takes ages to calm him. I am, of course, reminded that SILs 2 slept through the night from 7 weeks with help of controlled crying so I always feel as if it's me thats done something wrong. I know logically it will get better but I'm so tired. DH keeps reminding me that Joe has always been like this and thats why the midwives took the unusual step of putting him in bed with me in hospital but I still feel a failure.

Is anyone else losing a lot of hair? I know some is normal but in my case its loads. I'm not even tearing my hair out(I now it sounds like it!)

Sorry for the moany post x

devilsadvocaat · 13/01/2010 12:10

ht - my two sons are very different and i have done things the same more or less! all babies are different and it just seems that joseph is a Velcro baby i would get a soother and let some of your milk go on it. put it between you and him when you settle him to sleep and then you will have a transitional object when you decide to change your current arrangement. you need to do it all the time tho. also buy two of the same ones so you can wash etc. btw this won't work for now but will be a god send when he is a few months older.

x

princessmel · 13/01/2010 12:39

agree about DA soother suggestion. I did that with ds and dd.
Haven't chosen ds2's one yet.

littlepea72 · 13/01/2010 14:28

Devils thanks for that site, that is what im going to buy happy days!

HT soother sounds like a good idea, anything would be worth a try so you could get your bed back with your DH. Dont listen to your in-laws, my DS didnt sleep without being put in a baby swing, we went through packets of batteries every week, it was on ALL night, this went on for about 7 months. My mum told me that i didnt sleep longer than 2 hours every night untill my sister came along, she is almost 3 years younger! Doctor told her to put me in her bed or they would end up in hospital with lack of sleep. You do what you can, and all babies arent the same. As for hair loss, i thought i had gotten away with it, but its just started a couple of weeks ago, and its alot too, hope it stops soon!

Hope everyone else is doing well...fed up with this deep snow now! Took Faith out on the school run today with the baby carrier for the first time, oh my back! I feel like ive done a gym workout 4 times! But it was great not having to fight my way through with the pram. So glad i got it

BellaCullen · 13/01/2010 14:28

Hi everyone.Nathaniels been a nightmare since last thursday. It was so hard to get him to nap and hes not sleeping much at night too.Was up at 3am last night and took ages to get him back to sleep also needed a change of clothes as his nappy leaked.

Got him to fall asleep on his own on thu 3 times just swaddled him at first sign of tiredness and put him in his basket and he went to sleep on his own.Since then haven`t managed to get it at right time and he gets overtired and screams for hours.

littlepea72 am co-sleeping at night with him and plan to for a while.I tried to get DD to sleep in a cot and had to fight her every night so co-slpet with her most times. At 3 she got a big bed and was fine then. Will probably try a cot in our room at six months and then see.

More snow here today so got my Phil&Ted out of garage and what a dream to push that is.Have been struggeling with the Micralite in snow for last week but Phil&Ted is brilliant.

littlepea72 · 13/01/2010 14:29

Forgot to say...im going out tonight!!! First time since Faith. Cant wait

Scout19075 · 13/01/2010 18:39

My HV actually told me to go out and get a soother for Seb because otherwise he'd be comfort-sucking on me 24/7 if he could. I'm usually against them (soothers, that is) but, after a few weeks of trial and error, finally found one today that he seems to like AND be able to keep in his mouth. After only a few hours it feels like a gift from God my poor breasts may finally heal! Grant it, tomorrow when we fly to the States I'll let him nurse and comfort suck on me as long as he wants for both himself and the sake of the other passengers on the plane.

Have fun tonight, littlepea. I'm going out on Saturday for the first time post-Seb and am looking forward to it, too.

HumphreysCorner · 14/01/2010 10:35

Hi all

Matthew still in with us in his swinging crip but he is getting too wide for it so will have to go in the cot in his room (if we ever get it ready I have taken the crib bumper off as he waves his arms about and I woke up in the night to find the bumper over his face with his little hands frantically trying to get it off his face. Would like to keep him in with us until he is 5 years old 6 months.

Need to go to get M weighed as they still haven't called him for his 12 week jabs and he is 14 weeks today. I will of course ignore any words of wisdom from my HV and feed him and wean him and let him sleep when I/he wants to.

Scout-have a good journey and a great night out Sat.

littlepea-hope you had a good evening.

Bella-hope N is more settled.

M still waking around 4am which is fine and he can settle himself quite well by rolling his head from side to side.

Glad to hear some of the babies are improving in their settling.

Big wave to all.

Looking back, I meant to say Seb is 11 wks, not 11 mos. D'oh!

DH is doing the final checks of bags and packing electronics and I'm doing a feed so Seb doesn't decide he's hungry on the motorway -- then we're off to Heathrow. Keeping my fingers crossed that Seb's a good flyer! I'm tense right now with all the packing but know I will be the picture of calm again once in the car so hope those vibes transfer.

Has anyone had more snow today?

devilsadvocaat · 14/01/2010 15:19

good luck babyscout!

fidelma · 14/01/2010 21:04

Lots of snow and hair loss up here!!!

Connor sleeping in his cot for naps and in my bed from 1.30am as I just give in.it's not great as we then feed on and off until 7am (Sigh)

I am greatful that he goes to bed between 6 and 7pm as I can then focus on the others.

I am feeling pretty exhausted at the moment

smallone · 15/01/2010 11:54

Hi all,

How is everyone? G is up between 1 and 3 times everynight but it really helps to give him his ebm as late as poss. He usually does 5 hours after he's had a 7oz bottle.
I find that going to bed expecting the worse case scenario helps alot, if you hope everynight to get 7hr straight then you're going to be disappointed.

He's still in a moses basket in our room and will be till 6months unless he outgrows it earlier. I've cleared the cot in dds room as it had become a dumping ground and am starting to put him in it during the day to get him used to it.

Hair still in but it fell out at 4months after dd, along with the extra hair I'd developed on my stomach, just as I was beginning to panic about it!

HT - just wanted to add that although he wants to sleep on you now, do keep trying to get him down occasionally, I've lost track of the number of times I've said dd WILL NOT..... and then she does! They surprise you occasionally - usually when you least expect it.

Scout19075 · 15/01/2010 18:09

Just wanted to report that BabyScout (aka, Seb) was BRILLIANT on the eight-hour flight yesterday. Other passengers commented that they didn't even realize there was such a young one on-board. GrandpaScout is absolutely doting on BabyScout. A new mom/mum could get used to this!

Just curious, does anyone else give their LOs a bottle of EBM and if so, what is the average per feed? Seb just downed his first bottle of EBM (given by GrandpaScout) and, grant it, was only 1 oz, screamed when it was done looking for more. I had only done it as a test, to make sure he would take a bottle before I went to my reunion tomorrow night, but want to make sure I leave plenty.

fidelma · 15/01/2010 19:17

scout well done you and baby scout you made it across.Sorry no idea how much ebm you need.Have a good time.

Busy weekend ahead with children at parties and friends for dinner.Looking forward to getting everyone to bed then sitting down with dh to eat and watch some telly.

devilsadvocaat · 15/01/2010 19:33

yay babyscout! glad to hear at least one of the babies on this thread is behaving himself

re: ebm - i would not put anymore than 3 or 4 oz in a bottle at a time if you aren't sure how much he'll take. it doesn't take long to heat more and you don't want to waste it.

went out for the first time this week today. couldn't push the buggy at all, got stuck and had to get help from a passing man to lift buggy on to the road which was clearer. it is melting tho so hopefully it will be ok next week.

dh out tonight on the razz hope charlie stays in bed this evening and at least i won't feel completely cheated

CalypsoFramboise · 15/01/2010 20:12

Hello all!

Took Annalise to the English National Ballet's performance of The Snow Queen yesterday with 8 other mummies and babies. Heh, was a beautiful show but babies were quite startled with any loud cymbal crashes and the big clapping! And it was quite long - 2hs 50mins, even the older children in the audience were getting restless.

Did have to feed her A LOT during the performance to keep her quiet and aside from quite a bit of vomiting (hard to clear up in the dark!) she was as good as gold and loved watching the dancers. She must have been knackered as she slept from 6:30 until 4am!

Annalise has always slept in her Amby hammock, dreading her growing out of it - its so useful to be able to easily bouce her in it with the giant spring, or to swing her when she's all snuggled up in it. She's still a bit tricksy to get off for a nap in the morning though...

Hair also falling out by the handful - quite shocking! Shame its not falling out of my legs

HT best of luck the Joseph going down on his own soon, you're doing BRILLIANTLY!

babyscout lovely boy on such a big journey!

lixanismapolium · 15/01/2010 21:30

Scout19075 - Phoenix has bottles of EBM but has never drunk more than 4oz in one go. We prepare it 2oz at a time as it is heartbreaking if it gets wasted!

Hope you enjoy your reunion

fidelma · 15/01/2010 22:15

calypso I am glad that you enjoyed the ballet.I trained with English National.Although that feels like a life time ago.

Had a good chat with girlfriend whos DH is in Afganistan (she has 4 aged 7-1!!)makes my life seem easy.

My DH is watching rugbyso much for TV together.(I don't mind, we had a lovely dinner together.)

I am off to do a dream feed before going to bed.
