Oh Charley, hope the AB's kick in ok and you are both home asap. Much Love, xx.

elkiedee · 23/11/2009 00:46

Congratulations to CM but sorry to hear your lovely new daughter is back in hospital. I'm assuming you're being admitted with her from what you say about not having internet. Thinking of you until you're both home so you can post again.

largeginandtonic · 23/11/2009 07:09

Oh CM i am gutted for you. I am also hugely relieved that they swabbed you for it in labour and are treating her.

I have never been swabbed in any pregnancy and it has always been one of those things that has nagged. Particularly with having HB.

Iam sure she will make a speedy recovery and you will be home before you know it.

Is there anything you need?

Lots of love to you xxx

Oh Charley how devastating after everything going so so well. At least you are being treated.

I'm not sure I have ever been swabbed....

Stay strong, it's only for a very very short time. x

ShowOfHands · 23/11/2009 09:31

Charley, how bloody brilliant that they can check for these things but what a kick in the knackers that it means a stay in hospital for you both. Please don't let it take away from the lovely birth, we'll see you back here in a flash.

TMAM, I didn't think that I was swabbed either but I have my notes now and know that I was, as well as dd after the birth. It's the reason why I was discharged after 12hrs but the paed wouldn't discharge M as the swab results weren't back. So they might have done it without you noticing! I thought I was swabbed as I technically had a PROM and laboured without waters. Maybe they thought a hb was akin to contracting in a germ ridden ball pool at the local soft play. Who knows.

Moijaimelacountry · 23/11/2009 11:09

I wish the'd rountine it more in the UK. We are swabbed at 36, 38 and 40 weeks here for group B strep. 1 in 5 pregnant women carry the bacteria so it surprises me that they don't do it more routinely, or as you say SOH, perhaps they do do it during Labour but unless you see your notes or get a positive result you wouldn't know.

Hoping Charley and baby are home and unscathed soon.

AprilMeadow · 23/11/2009 11:18

This time was the first time i was aware of having the swabs for GBS. When i went in on my first visit they tested me.

Would anyone like to lend me their lungs.....? I have a chest infection type thing (not been to dr's) and it really causing my asthma to rear its head, keep feeling like i am going to cough my lungs up NICE!

Themasterandmargaritas · 23/11/2009 11:32

You can borrow one of mine, they are in pretty good shape I should imagine. You can't have the other one though or I might die.

I seem to remember asking the gynae with my pfb what to do about GSB and I remember him telling me not to worry. Perhaps they did do it during labour?

Now, April, how's the shed?

Also I think I quite like that Kate woman. Not as much as I like SOH I hasten to add.

Moijaimelacountry · 23/11/2009 14:22

You wouldn't want one of my lungs!! Ewww

Ahhhh surely would have been worth every penny saved watching C put it up....

JamInMyWellies · 23/11/2009 14:39

AM hope you are feeling better. Think its going round boys had it last wk I have it this wk.

TMAM I would love to learn to sail sounds like it was fun.

Abbey yiu are brave letting them make cardds I used to do that with my charges but think my boys are still a bit small to be let loose with the glitter.

MrsJB need some potty training advice. A took his nappy off yesterday and refused to wear it about 2 hours before bed and peed on the potty. He wanted pants on this morning and happily wee'd in the potty before nursery then went off and wet himself about 4 times during nursery and once since being home. He is perfectyl happy sitting in wet pants and does not seem to be aware that he needs. What do you reckon?? I think maybe leave it a few wks try again over Chrimbo.

Has anyone got Charley's address?

oh and have ordered my shoes

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/11/2009 15:25

Shoes are beautiful Jam

AM - you wouldn't want one of my lungs either - all those years of wine and Marlborough Lights abuse must have taken its toll. Hope you're better soon xx

Tils just getting over the D&V bug I had last week. Thankfully the worst of it was over the weekend when DH was home to clean up help.

Baby is back to back. Scan on Thursday to check size and talk about possible induction for size and/or SPD. Still undecided what to do. Charley's news about GBS has really got me worrying as well. I was already concerned because I've had a few infections (sinusitis, tonsillitis, thrush etc.) which, whilst they are often viral, can be bacterial and can be caused by Strep B bacteria. Midwife was clueless as ever when I asked whether it was worthwhile me being swabbed. I may mention to consultant on Thursday but I have heard the NhS tests aren't very accurate so I'm considering sending off for a private testing kit (think they're £35). I just can't get rid of a horrible feeling that something is going to go wrong (and I'm not normally someone who is prone to catastrophic thinking - honestly). What to do ?

Still not ready for baby - builders were due to start last week to come and sort his room out but still no sign of them I really don't want a load of builders here with a newborn so they need to pull their fingers out of their arses pronto

Gosh - apologies for long ranty post.

SOH - have a girly night planned on Thursday to watch The Notebook so looking forward to that.

Gin - hope all is good and you're enjoying having N home

Moijaimelacountry · 23/11/2009 16:16

Jam... it normally takes 3/4 days of consistent reminders, consistent praise, consistent techniques... getting the key word ere? to get the idea stuck in their heads and for them to learn how to recognise the feeling even if they are busy doing something else. There is no harm in waiting until you are sure you have the days, perhaps over Christmas if you are both home and have the time to be able to concentrate on it. It's very hard for them to do it nursery, more mistakes are inevitable. Let him continue to take off his nappy and wear pants/use the potty a little if he wants to but don't make too big a deal of it yet. It's all good pre training tactics. When you are ready to do the switch and are able to not go back once you've stared then I'm sure he'll crack it very quickly. - Gorge shoes!

Tils... Sorry you are feeling a little anxious, not long, I'm sure you'll be fine. Get a test kit if it makes you feel better, I believe though that GBS can come and go throughout your pregnancy, this is why we here are tested at 3 intervals leading up to the birth. Perhaps have it for close your due/ Induction date.

Themasterandmargaritas · 23/11/2009 16:34

Tills, don't panic. Take one day at a time, the baby may well turn yet.

Wait til you go for the scan then ask the consultant about GBS and when you should be tested. Remember no test is 100% reliable there are often false positives and false negatives.

Don't feel pressured to make any immediate decisions about inductions. Let them give you all their information and go away and think about their info and what you really would like to happen.

Is it up to you to oversee the builders? If so then I suggest asking dh to take it over and let him hassle them so that you have one less thing to worry about.

I think it's only natural at this stage in the game to be worrying about things that may go wrong.

Jam, the shoes are v classy. Come and visit and then we could go capsizing sailing together.

I have Charley's address, I'll email it to you.

Oh April, sorry I had forgotten to mention that my lungs too have seen their fair share of Malboro lights, I didn't think it was that important. I hope you are soon better so you can go out and sit in your shed. Will you put dh's PSP/Xbox/Wii thingy out there?

JamInMyWellies · 23/11/2009 16:48

Ahhh the sweet nectar of marlboro lights. I still hanker after a few ciggies now and then.

Cheers Mrs JB I had forgotton how much I hate potty training he is such a moan about it will just let him set the pace at home and leave nursery for a wee bit.

Tills get jumping on your bouncing ball and spend as much time on your hands and knees will all help with turning but you have plenty time for the baby to move. I have no idea about the GBS they didnt test me with my preg, but if it puts your mind at rest ask your consultant or buy the at home kit. Poor Tilly D&V bleaugh.

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/11/2009 18:32

Me too Jam - the temptation of a Marly light or two over Xmas will be very strong. I'll just have to make do with loads of port, stilton and pate instead !

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. Will see what the consultant has to say on Thursday. In the meantime, the ball is out !

AprilMeadow · 23/11/2009 18:39

Eww you lot and your yucky sticky lungs! Mine are beautiful and clean just a little narrow

OMG CM sent me a pic of Harriet and she is beautiful

Gorgeous shoes JAM

Shed up - took 3hrs! - and looks lovely. Just need to fill with crap now.

I feel ok in myself just would like not to be coughing as much and not feel so wheezy all the time.

Lucy is now over her cold (i hope) and went back to her 9hr block of sleep last night. 7.15-4.05-7.35-9.00

Dh at college tonight so that means the kids get a nice early bath so that i can crack on with the ironing - woo hoo. Think i will be watching my new dvd tonight of 'Four Christmases' looks funny.

Ooh have also been selling my maternity clothes on ebay and have got rid of 15 things so far with another 28 listed and loads more up stairs. Baby clothes will be next as Lucy is out of the upto 10lbs range and almost out of some of her 0-3mth stuff as she is quite tall.

AprilMeadow · 23/11/2009 18:41

Tilly, Lucy was back to back for a bit and turned a day of two before birth

largeginandtonic · 24/11/2009 06:15

I had a pic of Harriet too, she is so adorable

Tills like TMAM says it is quite normalto imagine all sorts of things at this stage. Please don't worry. Also RE bouncing on the ball... it can aggravate your SPD. I could only ever manage 5-10 mins at a time.

Better for you may be leaning over the back of the couch with legs quite close together. Over pillows on the bed with legs together too.

I remember thinking i MUST get in to all these great positioning poses but in reality the pain from the SPD made it damn near impossible Blubell was back to back and turned in labour.

I have never been swabbed. We bloody should be in this country but unless you tick a few boxes on the risk factors they won't do it. It is shocking. Such a necessary test imho.

AM you don't want my lungs, i am also an asthma suffer. Any chest infection does that to your lungs, it is not nice. Go to the Doc and he may increase your asthma meds until you are over the worst.

It is lovely having dh home. There will be NO Xmas babies

Calm thoughts and all will be well.
