Arsing Tesco just phoned to say they'll be at least half an hour with my breakfast

Can't even have toast because htere's no butter or marmalade so I am reduced to eating dry shreddies out of the packet

RedLentil · 09/11/2009 13:38

I hope you've eaten something by now Hotter.

I've been trying to entertain one teething baby and one big girl who has had a bug and just wants my total attention. It went reasonably well all things considered but I'm glad they are asleep.

DD2 has no interest in the television yet, though she has noticed it in the last week or so because she screams if there is an animal on when she's passing. I think dd1 started watching when she was 2.

It's trickier to manage the tv when there's a gang and age gaps. So we have a regular time slot for tv, after 2pm when ds comes home from school. The older two have to decide how to share out the time and watch something for about 40 minutes.

Sometimes dh puts it on if he is really busy and I'm not up. He'll put peppa or charlie and lola on the computer for dd1, and the tv on for ds but I find this really sets everyone's brains into slow mode so I prefer to save the tv for later in the day when they need a break.

At the weekend, ds likes to use the tv slot to play me on the wii fit games which is a lot of fun. The wii is proving to be a godsend in our rainy playcentre-less neck of the woods. I think we'll end up swapping tv for it in the week as chances to play outside disappear.

We were watching Nigel Slater's programme as a family until that finished. Bit odd really, but the dc really loved it ...

Progress today, in that I found a really fab lego coast guard set for ds for Christmas and my mum is going to fetch it today.

The bits of the set come to nearly £60 on amazon, so v. happy. He has a playmobil boat he can use with it and dd1 will enjoy it too I think.

She wants a packet of crisps for Christmas.

Feck, dd1 has woken with a nightmare and woken dd2.

RedLentil · 09/11/2009 13:41

Oh, when I was sick I turned in desperation to children's songs on youtube.

Now dd2 grabs my hand, puts it on the mouse and shouts 'danz, danz'. So we have a time-slot for that too, while I'm making dinner.

You need to be really quite ill to tolerate The Wiggles.

CaptainCaveman · 09/11/2009 13:43

Poor old hotpot - hoping your breakfast has arrived now?

miamla if your mum doesn't want to cook, why not suggest alternatives? ie. everyone bring a dish with them OR order takeaway on christmas eve, then eat it for christmas dinner (if you don't mind not going traditional). My friend had a slap up curry with her family last christmas, ordered on 24th and reheated for christmas dinner

CaptainCaveman · 09/11/2009 13:49

red I totally agree re the Wiggles

RedLentil · 09/11/2009 14:12

Hello cece.

Can you talk to your mum directly miamla now that you know it is her issue? Tis a bit of a mess.

BucketsOfBlood · 09/11/2009 15:56

Miamla Maybe your mum just wants a pyjama day but can't because of your ILs?

Washerdryer arrived early today, hurrah, laminate flooring on hold again - really cross and disappointed, may have to abandon it for something less perfect. House covered in an inch of dust as predicted by Oops as my dad didn't think to close any doors when anglegrinding brickwork.

hotterpotter · 09/11/2009 18:28

All full up now the poor delivery driver was new so hard to be cross with him. Funny afternoon though, had a driving lesson which proved how lucky I was to have my test put back , played with DS a bit and made a loely crown with DD when she got back from nursery but not really done anything else and the whole day is gone

Miamla at your mum. Have you any idea what you're going to do?

Buckets that amount of dust does sound grim but at least you will be able to see where you've got up to when you're cleaning it or will you be passing duster/pinny/mr.sheen to your dad? Sounds like it is slowly coming together though.

cece and Red what is this Wiggles of which you speak? The name is putting me off I must admit

My DC currently entranced by Waybuloo. Can't see it myself, it seems to be the same episode over and over and over and over but 'tis funny watching DD attempt the yoga moves

oopsandbabycoconut · 09/11/2009 18:38

HP - TheWiggles are Australia's most annoying export! The started off being a serious band who realised early on that there was more chance of them making it as children's performers than as a serious band. The are only second to INXS as Australia's highest earning musicians!

SazZaVoom · 09/11/2009 18:50

Evening all

Think i have persuaded DD1 to wear a nappy tonight, have said they are like pants and she can get up and wee in the night by pulling them down etc. We will wait and see if she actually puts it on when the time comes

Sorry to hear of delays buckets and hope you find some better & cheaper flooring as a result

Glad to hear you finally got a delivery hots and were not left to starve . I feel the same about Waybuloo. Every day DD1 says 'Mummy, is this good?'. i reply 'no'. But she still watches it (well the yoga moves anyway). Her fave is a tree

hotterpotter · 09/11/2009 18:52

Mmmmmm Michael Hutchence

hotterpotter · 09/11/2009 18:53

Wotcha Sazz I think you are wise with the nappy, and I hope DD agrees to put it on

SazZaVoom · 09/11/2009 19:51

I think she still has it on. She was very resistant, saying 'i don't wear nappies, take it off', so we shall wait and see. All my own fault for trying it before she was ready i guess, but i have learnt a lesson for DD2 anyway

SazZaVoom · 09/11/2009 19:53

Oh, and i have just lost the screw from my glasses (has been loose for weeks so again my own fault ). So now i will have to visit the opticians tomorrow to get it fixed. After i have taken my car to the garage for a service

miamla · 09/11/2009 21:21

oop i'm still catching up but i've got as far as your DD eating weetabix on the sofa?? seriously?? DS is only allowed anything remotely of a weetabix texture whilst tightly strapped into his highchair with a plastic mat underneath! i'm astounded at how neatly your DD must eat!

further to my christmas rant it would seem that in fact it is my sister stirring things. she probably denied everything to DP to try and back out of her corner I've also found out today that she's stirring things with my dad as well about life generally and how i'm really rude to expect him to pay for our wedding. erm no, dad got upset when he found out i was assuming he wasn't paying anything. she's denying everything to me directly though. i suspect she's going through an attention seeking stage

right, off to continue catching up!

oopsandbabycoconut · 09/11/2009 21:25

Miamla - she sits on a BIG towel and is 'assisted' occasionally by me.

Very quiet on here tonight I am of to bath then bed.

Hope everyone gets some sleep tonight.

SazZaVoom · 09/11/2009 21:26

Meant to say earlier Miamla, have you volunteered for the North London thing for a swift 50 smakeroonis? Not sure if you even are North London

Can i slap your sister please, she is winding me up now

SazZaVoom · 09/11/2009 21:28

Oh and dizzy is on the bus to the airport with a face like ->> this

miamla · 09/11/2009 21:30

as for what we're doing now re Christmas..DP has taken control! He's told my mum that he's assuming original plan stands unless he hears otherwise by the end of the week. If mum then tells him we can't go round, DP is cooking turkey for whoever wants it at our house. Mum meanwhile is sticking to her story about it being sister causing trouble and i believe her, especially after what i found out re dad today

fucking families!!!!!! but can we have a round of applause for DP and his no nonsense approach to it all please

i've been feeling incredibly emotional today, i'm full to the brim with whore-moans

i'm watching a wildlife programme on bbc1 at the moment but i might have to switch it off if the mummy penguin doesn't find her baby penguin soon

cyteen · 09/11/2009 21:59

miamla see my fb status...am officially soft as shite

Sazz I'll see your opticians/garage talk and raise you a trip to the dentist tomorrow [yawn]

oops DS is obsessed with Weetabix at the moment. For the last two days he has eaten his own and then come and bobbed about hopefully in front of me with this hilarious excited look on his face Of course it works and he gets half of mine too...see above SAS status.

I'm supposed to be working on my dissertation so should really switch off the internets.

pertelote · 09/11/2009 22:01

Same here re penguins Miamla Three cheers for your DP, sounds like your sister certainly deserves to have Sazzles set on her if I may say so! Hope your nappy plans work out tonight Sazzles...

No interest in TV here yet though I was just thinking that DD would like these penguins! She does 'waddle waddle' with flapping hands if you ask what a penguin says . Is it evil to teach her things purely for my own amusement?!

BTW, tomorrow is the anniversary of DD's conception! Two fun-packed years, eh?

SazZaVoom · 09/11/2009 22:06

LOL at 'Flappy' pert . DD2 was trying to say 'elephant' earlier and failing miserably. I was amused

My friend had her 12 week scan today and all is good. And she found out she is 13 weeks so a week less of pregnancy less than she thought

cyteen nah, you are not soft as shite, you are the thread arse kicker. what will we do if you go all soft on us?

Off to bed here and am too hoping the nappy plans are successful and DD2 sleeps beyond 7am. I am expecting to see pigs fly past the window though before those two things are achieved

Night all

steaknife · 09/11/2009 22:26

wotcha ladies.

Just passing to say I'm still here, I haven't won the euromillions

I've been trying to have tv and mn free evenings to get through the sewing and organising before mansteak visits.

I have covered the cushions of the easychair but I am leaving the cover for the body of the chair for a couple of days - it feels a bit mammoth at the moment so I just need one evening to cut all the bits out and a couple more to do the sewing up.

I have decided how to proceed with all things crafty. I am going to ask to have a stall at the baby group at the end of the month and sell some cup-candles, cushion covers, lavender bags gifty type things. Then start a monthly craft club. So I do a taster session of a different craft each month and I can put together kits for people to buy at the end.

If that goes well then I can look to develop into a rented venue.

Oh and I got the House Proud book recently. I have to say I didn't really like it. I think it was the oooh I really wanted the dining room chairs that were £1000 each so I just whipped up some loose covers from this Missoni fabric instead. Not exactly make do and mend.
The photos were also mucho contrived - like it is all about the lifestyle and how groovey she could look.

Gah, I was going to catch up but little miss is making grumpy noises from above - we have some very reluctant teeth making their way out.

Not sure I will be around much the rest of this week so hope everyone has a good week.

Snotrocket · 10/11/2009 03:26

Steaky that sounds like a great plan. I'd definitely like a kit or two but won't be able to attend the demos

Miamla argh families!

DH very down in the dumps about the interview. He 'made' me buy a bottle of wine on my way home from the gym yesterday to drown his sorrows! He says he feels like he's failed our little family - ahh.

steaknife · 10/11/2009 07:57

Why? Why? Why? Four hours after she woke up she decided to go back to sleep again. Despite being very tired being awake was better than sleeping or letting me sleep. So I finally got to sleep at about half two this morning.

tea and stale digestives here.
