Here we go again!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dinkystinky · 11/02/2010 10:53

SM - he may well be overtired. If you're not giving him any other medication, then a small dose of Medised might help break the cycle and get him to sleep. If you are giving other medication, then I'd be loathe to use Medised. Have to admit I gave DS1 a small dose of medised last night to help him get to sleep as the pain from his ear infection was keeping him up.

Rosie - best of luck with your aim for no 5! You are a brave lady as I remember you didnt have a great time of it when pregnant what with your diabetes and mean consultant lady - but you're right, the end result is very worth it (provided the end result sleeps at some point that is ). Is your diabetes under control now or was it just gestational?

SilveryMoon · 11/02/2010 11:08

Thanks dinky I have been giving some paracetamol and ibuprofen when he gets really whingy just to cover bases, but as long as I leave at least 4 hours between paracetamol it'll be ok.
He's fine atm, but tonight might be a different story.
I'll get a bottle just in case. It's that or give him a bottle of brandy!

rosieposey · 11/02/2010 11:18

No i have type 2 diabetes permanently now Dinky, Im on Metformin all the time but will switch to insulin injections again if and when i get pg.

Not even sure it will happen again as im a bit old and i dont think that being overweight with type 2 helps much either but we shall see (and have some fun trying but you are right i bloody hated being pg!

SM i gave Milo alternate ibruprofen and paracetamol and it seemed to do the trick, i really hope you get some rest soon as its really demoralising when you cant sleep and are permanently knackered.

McDreamy · 11/02/2010 11:23

Wow rosie now that is impressive! I am the same age as you - for one more week anyway!

Silvery - sorry to hear you're having bad nights. I cannot cope with lack of sleep, it's so hard! Had a better night with Abbie but looking forward to next Friday as DH is taking me away for the night (its my birthday). One whole uninterrupted nights sleep - what more could I want as a birthday present

rosieposey · 11/02/2010 13:01

You know i am convinced that the only reason that DH and indeed myself are so keen on doing it again is because Milo slept through from about 7 or 8 weeks and has done so virtually every night since. God know we moan when he is poorly and miss out on sleep so i reckon it will be sods law that i will have this last one and he/she wont sleep till their about 12!

All this talk on the thread of no sleeping makes me feel very lucky indeed and a bit for everyone else because i hate being tired nearly as much as i hate being pg.

LittleMissNorty · 11/02/2010 14:02

SM I gave DS medised last night - I don't do it easily but he was bunged up with cold and teething (and knackered). Warm bath, clean babygro and 5mls medised....worked a treat. I also used Karvol vapour which is great

Don't give him anything now until tonight and you'll be ok.

So why, even when they sleep through, do I still wake up

SilveryMoon · 11/02/2010 18:03

He hasn't had anything today but his AB's.
Getting them in the bath in a mo.
He's been a bit better today but still looks awful.

littlesez · 12/02/2010 08:24

CAN i just say i have posted twice on here recently and the posts have dissappeared [sad}]

pmfg i need sleep

littlesez · 12/02/2010 08:27

oh right it worked sorry for typos I hope your all ok and enjoying the babies 1st birthdays xxx

mumoverseas · 12/02/2010 10:51

rosie at number 5! good luck with that you crazy woman

our house is chaos today.
It is 1.50pm, the party starts at 3pm and I'm still in my PJs!

So far I've made:
2 x key lime pie
strawberry trifle
fruit salad
large chocolate cake for adults
approx 50 fairy cakes, chocolate, multicoloured and pink with chocolate and green icing
and the main event, a caterpillar birthday cake for Harrison.

Just finished a pototo salad (well will have when I work out what I'm supposed to do with the chives, they look like weeds)
then to make pasta/pesto and then a shower!

stupid bloody idea!

katieblirdsnest · 12/02/2010 11:14

mos it sounds wonderful, wish i was there. good luck with it all.

sm hope you had a better night, i didn't respond yesterday but i would try medised at this stage. i think the age concerns are to do with some parents using it as a general sleep aid rather than what it's meant to be used for so they have to treat us all like idiots and reduce the age limit.

i had a poonami experience this morning when i let I go without his nappy for 2 minutes whilst i washed my hands, cue him poo'ing on the landing and crawling it along and into the bathroom to show me what a clever boy he'd been. me, him, carpets, skirting boards all nicely smeared.

dinkystinky · 12/02/2010 11:44

Ooh KBN - that sounds nasty! What a start to the day! Fingers crossed the clean up was effective...

MOS - that sounds like a veritable feast. Am so impressed at all your effort in putting together this party. Hope it goes smoothly and you manage to get out of your pjs pre-party.

SM - I too hope you had a better night last night.

rosieposey · 12/02/2010 12:09

Katie !!! I would have died having to sort that out first thing ...

MOS i am obviously insane but Milo is such a lovely little chap and like i said if he didn't sleep i probably would be singing a different tune, anyway i had to buy all this baby stuff it just seems such a shame to only use it once

You have made me very at all that talk of gorgeous party food, did you make all that yourself??? How on earth did you find the time you supermum you? Im utterly crap at making desserts hence having to buy them all - im a pretty good cook as long as its not sweet! Milo had a caterpillar birthday cake too (shop bought though sooo cute!) Hope he has a fab day (and you too)

Hey littlesez - good to see you

Silverymoon - hope things are a bit better for you all today and you are taking it easy.

SilveryMoon · 12/02/2010 15:25

mos Hope the party's going well.
kbn yuck on the poo mess! That'll teach you
I did give him some medised at bedtime, he slept till 10:30, was then up screaming for 2 hours so I gave him some more, kept him in bed with me and he was in and out of sleep til 7am.
I took him back to docs this morning with a urine sample and they confirmed he does have a waer infection . They've given more AB's and some cream for the end of his willy.

I'm feeling a bit better after a reasonable amount of sleep.

mumoverseas · 12/02/2010 16:12

hello all,
KBN what an awful incident. Yuk!

SM hope litte fella gets better soon and the cream works. Glad you managed some sleep.

Party went REALLY well.

I did snacky bits for the kids and adults whilst food was cooking, crisps etc and made some (beef) sausage rolls which went down well.

We had a catering company come in and cook schwarmers (like chicken doner kebabs in arabic bread with pickles and chips) -yummy. Also they did a BBQ to order hot dogs and burgers with salads, pasta salad and potato salad that I made.

Desserts went down well, key lime pie (I'm famous for it and my chocolate cake) vanished in about two minutes as did the large chocolate cake and little cakes.

A friend of mine brews here and we had some half decent red and white wine which was good so feeling pleasantly relaxed/pissed now.

We had a little tiny bouncy castle in our garden for the little babies and todders and hired a massive one for outside in the communal party for the bigger kids (and adults when we kicked them off)
Also got a lady in doing face painting which was very popular.

All in all a fab party and someone comment it wasn't a party but an event
Bloody knackered now so going to drag myself up for a bath and bed.

Hope all doing ok and you enjoy your weekends x

dinkystinky · 12/02/2010 17:25

Wow MoS - that really was some quite a birthday do! How on earth are you going to top that next year?

SM - sorry to hear J has a water infection. FWIW the cream on his willy should hopefully work really well - DS1's infection cleared within 24 hours of starting using that cream. Poor J

Right - am off on holiday tomorrow morning (slightly dreading that something will go wrong with the intricatedly worked plan to pick up DH get over gatwick etc. etc. - so if am back online before next sunday you'll know that is the case!) so will (hopefully) be off line for a week or so. Hope all those with non-sleeping babies/older kids manage to get some sleep, all those with birthdays have fab days and all those with exciting plans over half term have a great time. x

rosieposey · 12/02/2010 21:38

Dinky have a great holiday Hope you get lots of rest!

MOS the party sounds like it went swimmingly, god i want some chocolate cake now.

SM hope DS gets better bless him and you get some rest.

elkiedee · 12/02/2010 22:08

Good luck Rosie, and yes, Dog is having no 4.

I want a third but am older than you, Rosie, and there are lots of practical reasons why not.

I'm a bit upset right now, have just had scary news.

I usually talk to my mum on the phone about this time every night but tonight she said she had visitors and we might not get to chat, then I came down and found I had an email asking me to phone when I'd got C to sleep.

So I called about 30 minutes ago.

She's had a biopsy taken today, should hear on Wednesday, but she's facing treatment for bowel cancer.

My mum is 65 and generally seems quite healthy, and even though I had children quite late I thought at least D and C would have her around for a while.

We see a lot of my dad now, but I was brought up with my mum as a single parent family until I was nearly 7, and then my stepdad left her when my brother and sister were 15 and 12.

I'm quite shocked and scared at the moment.

rosieposey · 12/02/2010 22:19

Hey elkidee am so sorry your feeling scared, i can totally understand why. My auntie had bowel cancer and it is entirely treatable, is it a definate diagnosis or are they waiting on the biopsy results? Please dont think that she might not be here in such and such a time because it could all work out fine (and im quite sure it will) I am sure she will be ok. I know its scary but try to stay positive until you have a little more info, let us know how you get on and take care x

mumoverseas · 13/02/2010 05:42

morning all

elkiedee hugs to you, how scary for you. Fingers crossed for Wednesday. Are you going with her to get results? I know what you mean about children having their nanny around. I feel very sad that DC1 and 2 spent so much quality time with my mum and dad, they used to take them camping and do all sorts of fun things with them. Grandad taught them to play dominoes and chess and nanny taught them to cook and sew.
DCs 3 and 4 won't have that which is so sad.

I hope all goes well for your and your dear mother. Thinking of you x

dinky, hope you have a fabulous relaxing holiday and you get to LGW ok. Sounds
quite complicated.

SM hope your little man is better now you are using the cream and that you managed more sleep last night.

Really knackered today, thank god its school holidays this week so don't have to be up early to do anything which is nice. There is a trip to the zoo planned for Tuesday which will be fun. Not exactly Chessington but a few animals which will get the kids excited.

SilveryMoon · 13/02/2010 08:32

elkie Try not to worry until you get the results back, although that's easier said than done.

Another stupid night here. This has got to end soon.

TulipsInTheRain · 13/02/2010 14:14

elkie, one of the ladies on my Aug 06 postnatal thread had treatment for bowel cancer and awful and scary as it was she's fine now. Hopefully it'll be the same for your mother.

we're off to the zoo tomorrow.... we'll have to get p at 5.30 to be on the road in time [yawn] but hopefuly the weather will be as nice as it is today

elkiedee · 13/02/2010 19:26

MOS, I wish I could go with my mum. Unfortunately, I live 200 miles away, as does my sister (in fact my sister only lives about a mile from me).

Hope the zoo trips are fun.

SilveryMoon · 14/02/2010 07:55

elkie hope you'r ok.

Good night here. Both slept through, so I'm feeling much better.
Jacob seems a lot better too.

katieblirdsnest · 14/02/2010 15:13

elkie i thought i'd posted before but it clearly didn't work. i'm so sorry, this is the worst time not knowing what you're dealing with. i hope the tests are ok but if it's bad news then there is lots that can be done. it really isn't fun but i have a friend that has recovered from it. big hugs to you.
