Another bad night here, this time due to H's cold. I fed him at 1am and 4am as is becoming usual but after 4am he was tossing and turning and snuffling and grumbling so I had very little sleep.

I was very proud of H last night. We went out to a pub for a family meal which I was slightly apprehensive about because H has got used to his 7.30pm bedtime. I tried to put him down for a nap at 5pm (having woken from his last nap at 2.30) but he wouldn't sleep and spent the whole time we were getting ready screaming. Anyway when we got to the pub he was miraculously all smiles and sat on my knee merrily chewing away at chunks of garlic bread and chips (what a healthy diet!) much to the delight of everyone He had a bit of a grumble as we were leaving but was all smiles when we arrived home, and went to sleep straight after a quick (alcoholic ) bf.

Thanks for the advice everyone re dairy intolerance. I'm almost certain that's what it is - he's had the rash after trying formula, cereal with milk, porridge, yoghurt and then with the cheese. I will try a food diary though just in case it's anything else. I did wonder if the reaction was caused by wheat but H is fine with bread. I'm going to cut out dairy in H's diet for now and am considering going dairy free myself for a couple of weeks to see if there is any difference to the dry patches on his skin. Just got a couple of pizzas to eat first

Better dash and clean up as my Mum's visiting this afternoon

BonfireByTheStormySea · 07/11/2009 16:11

just a quickie.. will catch up prob later.

hi my name is fi & I internet shop a lot

btw dandy you made round up didn't know about that thread.. hilarious idea! might have a read of it later.

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 07/11/2009 16:33

Gorgeous sunny day here.
Had a lovely meet up with Ses and O. O is a complete heartbreaker. It was nice for R to have a playmate to roll around the floor with. It was great to meet in RL when we have 'known' eachother for more than a year!! We actually live pretty close so will have to meet up again.

My DH is rebuilding our conservatory so has been out banging and crashing all day as well as last weekend and will be busy all day tomorrow too and probably next weekend too. Sigh. Oh well its got to be done.

We are going out to friends tonight for a bonfire night so looking forward to that. I have some formula ready for R in case he wakes while I'm out. SIL will babysit.

essenceofSES · 07/11/2009 17:03

Febes - really silly how close we live and yet not met up before! R is gorgeous and chatty and set an excellent example to O with his breadstick A is so pretty and cute too!

Belgian - hope your guests are behaving!

Fi - internet shopping... do we need a support group?! It's just too easy isn't it!

SparklerMaker - H sounds v cute at the pub chewing away

Momi - I keep trying to tell myself to make the most of all the cuddles whilst I can but it's not always easy.

We had our playpen arrive yesterday. I never thought I'd have one but O has got so mobile that I just can't leave him for 2 seconds. DH put it together last night and was telling O it was a jail. It can open up so as to block off one end of the room (to avoid the marble fire place and coffee table!)

llaregguy · 07/11/2009 20:19

How quiet it is tonight!

How lovely that you met up, Ses and Febes.

dandy

pulaparkin · 07/11/2009 21:00

Dandy- hope you enjoyed your fish n chips as much as i did last night .

Just back from my cousin's wedding party. I just took S (I was meant to take DD and leave the boys at home but after her misbehaving the other day I changed my plans). It was a shame that he was really out of sorts, screaming and not happy when other people had him. He did bring up some wind after i gave him some colic drops and calmed down after that, but was still a bit tetchy afterwards. I just got a bid by the references (by my mum) of my sister's and SIL's babies being "good" and when my SIL said "he'll grown out of it" in reference to the wind, I started the think "when will that be- should have happened by now surely?".

FiByTheSea · 07/11/2009 22:07

pula I hope you managed to enjoy some of the wedding and sorry to hear S was out of sorts. G used to be absolutely delighted to be passed around family and friends for cuddles... well not the case any more! just recently she's got really upset within seconds of me passing her to my auntie or a friend that she's previously been happy with I think she's having separation anxiety as she also gets upset when i leave the room occasionally? The wind S had could have been caused by his screaming and just one of those things caused by the goings on of the day? Are you having a more settled night?

pulaparkin · 07/11/2009 22:23

Thanks Fi. I think it was all a bit strange for S (noisy and crowded) so he was a bit unsettled. He also has a cold. His wind has been really bad the last few days- we've had to use gripe water a few times in the evenings/at night. I am quite full at the moment which means he's struggling with my flow again. I missed his mid-morning feed today and expressed 9oz on return in about 5 mins, and that was only part of what i had . I can't decide whether to reduce his solids and increase his milk again, as he is struggling with his bowel movements, but more milk seems to lead to more wind. He seems to prefer the solids to his milk at the moment though. Just getting a bit down as S always seems to be the most unsettled baby whereever i go (playgroup, social gatherings etc).

FiByTheSea · 07/11/2009 22:30

hmm getting the balance between milk and solids is soooo hard isn't it... DS used to get quite constipated if he didn't drink enough milk and too much milk and he then didn't want solids! He's still a bit like that at 3.3yrs!!

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 07/11/2009 22:37

Evening all! It's quiet tonight.

febes and ses glad you had a nice time together!

dandy - yay on the roundup!

pula - what a shame about S's grumpiness. Take no notice of what other people say. Hard, I know though. Hope you enjoyed some of the party.

Exciting stuff here, A has had her first food and we've started toilet stuff properly with DD1. We hadn't actually intended to do either today, but somehow both happened. DH and DD1 assenbled to new highchair today, so it seemed rude not to sit A in it at lunchtime, and then it seemed mean to have her sitting there but not eating...anyway, she had a lump of cucumber and a piece of banana, both seriously gummed but not sure if any ingested. Guess we'll know soon!

This morning I asked DD1 if she really wanted to wear a nappy, and she said no - so no nappies all day! One accident when she was playing in the garden (full wellies!!) but for the rest of the day she told us when she needed to go and she weed on the toilet. She won't wee on the potty though, which is mildly inconvenient. We'll see how it all goes tomorrow, but I do hope this is the end of nappies in the daytime at least.

Off now, A is grumbling a bit. She has pooed about a hundred times so probably starving now!

pulaparkin · 07/11/2009 22:48

Flippineck- yes, I enjoyed the party despite his grumpiness. The cutest thing was one of my cousin's has a 7 yo DD, who was very concerned about S and came and sat with me upstairs when I was trying to calm him down, and cuddled him, helped clean his dribble. She was very sweet .

How old is your DD1? My DS1 has no interest in toilet training and still doesn't understand it when he does a wee with his nappy off and ends up with wet legs.

I think S is waking up for a feed. Better go. Night night all.

runningmonkey · 07/11/2009 22:50

Hi all
sorry this is going to be a me post but I need a bit of advice.

A has been vomming since 5am. Full Feds she had a 4 hour gap in the middle of the day with no puke then gulped a feed and vommed it all back up at about 5pm. She had a few mins of bf at 7.20 but I pulled her off early as was worried about her puking again if she drank too much too quickly and she has been asleep since just before 8. I am really worried she is going to get dehydrated, should I wake her?

Sorry about typing on phone!

Belgianrockets · 07/11/2009 22:52

Evening everyone,

It really is quiet her tonight.

dandy Congrats on the mention.

flippin success with the potty training and BLW. I'm officially starting it on mon and sort of casually giving her bits at the moment. I suppose I'll learn all about the milk/solids balance thing soon enough.

pula DS used to get out of sorts at parties. I think it can be a bit scary for babies sometimes. Hope you enjoyed yourseld despite this.

ses febes Glad to hear you had a lovely meet.

We've been busy here today. This a.m. my guests dissapeared, only to return with this man in their wake who was a bit overexcited about them being Belgian, because he had lived there for 8 years. Anyway when they got home he just invited himself in and sat down and had a cup of tea. It was all a bit surreal. The bonfire this evening was great too. It's still going as far as I can see, with a few people keeping an eye on it.

Right. off to bed now. Goodnight everyone

FiByTheSea · 07/11/2009 22:55

running poor you and A how is her fontanelle? does it appear sunken? You could try a dream feed instead of waking her... she may/may not be dehydrated... was she still doing wet nappies? if so she was keeping some fluids in. Is she full of the cold? Babies very often vomit when full of the cold to get rid of the gunk... either that or it does vile nappies!

FiByTheSea · 07/11/2009 22:57

running all you can do is just keep offering feeds... some has to stay in?

runningmonkey · 07/11/2009 23:09

Thanks fi, her nappies have been drier than normal but she has both wee'd and pooed (disgustingly!) this pm. Fontanelle seems normal and when she was awake was happy enough in between pukes if a little sleepier than normal.
have never tried a dreamfeed, think I might giveit a go

FiByTheSea · 07/11/2009 23:13

will keep fingers crossed it works for you... occasionally i latch g on and she wakes up 5mins after I put her back into bed after sleeping through the whole feed?! I don't change her bum unless she poos but that's an unusual occurrence after her dream feed. I'd be close at hand after feeding her just in case another vomit seems likely...

FiByTheSea · 07/11/2009 23:30

off to bed for me... night night xoxox

Jael · 07/11/2009 23:34

Late Night post and run from me, sorry, not been on, been in extreme pain wih my blasted tooth and dentist refused to see me that day, even though it's an emergency. I had to wait until the next day No food or drink for 24 hrs, I couldn't manage anything I was in too much pain anyways I've got to take MORE painkillers and antibiotics for a week, and go back on Thursday. They think I have an infection in the root I've never had anything wrong with my teeth before...
We took both DC to a brilliant Firework display tonight, the same place we went last year, over 30,000 people went last year, so we decided to go back because it was sooo good! DD loved it, wasn't sure how J would be of the bangs, but he LOVED the bright lights, wasn't fussed by the bangs, was smiling and kicking his legs, so that was a success

Off to my concert tomorrow, I've waited 15 years to see my boys, so I am VERRRRRRYYYYY excited

night night must sleep

Thanks dandy, dreamfeed done about 40 mins ago. Only let her feed fir about 5 mins s I didn't want her to take too much in one go. No more puke as yet but am going to sit up for a bit. Will prob try to give her a bit more in another hour or so.

Jael - am v jealous, despite being an indie girl I have a bit of a soft spot for the back St boys enjoy the concert

runningmonkey · 08/11/2009 03:55

Well am on shift two of 'vomwatch' and so far all goo. A fed for another 5 min just after 2 and has been ok altho her poor little tummy is making horrendous noises. Have been trying to cone up with ideas for new thread title but not inspired yet

how about

may 09: fireworks and vomitous eruptions
may 09: half a year old already?!
May 09: weddings and weaning, what's next?

See, rubbish! I'm tired

essenceofSES · 08/11/2009 08:54

running - hope the rest of your night was vom free.
I'm useless at coming up with new thread names too but maybe we should mark the "half year"?

Jael - hope the drugs kick in and you enjoy the concert

flippin - sounds like a v successufl day!

dream feeding - I've still not tried this. O tends to wake up at some point between 10.30 and 11.30 so I usually wait for him to wake up. I think I'm worried that if I pick him up and feed him he'll wake up anyway?

Last night - with DH away - a couple of friends came round and we got take away. O woke after half an hour but then went back to sleep for 3 hrs (one of his longest stretches atm) until 11.30pm which conincided with when I was about to go to bed anyway. I fed him and he went for another 3hrs in his cot before waking and coming into bed. So our most successful night in a while.

Today's BLW day I'm cooking roast pork for me and DH this afternoon and will give O some carrot and broccoli and see what he does with it!

Hope everyone who was having fireworks last night enjoyed them
