Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Dandy I ordered something from Amazon on the 22 October. The estimated delivery date was the 20 November (!) via the Home Delivery Network. The date was revised several times and the items were delivered yesterday.

Febes how scary! The swinging thing is something we do with DS and now I am banning the activity. Blimey, who'd have thought it.

Flippineck I have a spreadsheet too.

Belgian how is the head today?

I took the boys swimming today. It was fine; DS1 was well-behaved and having both in the pool together wasn't too bad at all. There is a small splash pool at our gym so we stayed in there. The worst bit was coming out as I had to decide which of my two shivering boys to get dressed first! There was another mother there with 2 girls and she'd brought a towelling gown to change into which is a great idea I think. I'm definitely going to do the same.

I'm glad that it is Saturday tomorrow. I've had my fill of entertaining DS1 alone. I need help! I think I am going to increase DS1's preschool sessions after christmas. He needs constant stimulation and I can't keep up with it. Honestly, he is such hard work!

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 06/11/2009 21:05

Llaregg Glad to hear that you (and others) do the swinging thing and its not just us . I knew that you aren't supposed to swing kids under 2 as there joints aren't strong enough but didn't expect it to pop out like that . Sorry to hear DS1 is being difficult. Toddlers .

smokytom · 06/11/2009 21:05

Febes Sorry to hear about your trip to A+E yesterday- glad dd is ok now

Christmas I'm trying to do the cheap presents thing but get a bit caught up in the excitement so will prob end up going overboard with the pressies- and then of course all he'll be bothered about is scrunching the paper

Has anyone elses baby gone from being very laid back to being incredibly demanding? I guess it's because he is more aware of his surrounding and gets bored more easily or something but Jake used to lie quite happily on hit playmat for 30-45mins. Now he needs attention all the time he is awake if I put him on his mat to go to the loo, or do something he starts fussing straight away.

He hates me using the computer and will only sit and play with toys if I'm sat next to him on the floor... whats going on- anyone going through the same or have any ideas?

On a positive note he is quite easily amused- I just have to bust out my amazing rendition of Nellie the Elephant and he grins like this-

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 06/11/2009 21:06

ses - this is going to sound terrible, but please don't get your hopes up about weaning improving stuff, you might just be disappointed . It might help, it might not. Think I've said it before, DD1 was a shocking sleeper, and food made no difference whatsoever.

febes - sorry to hear about the incident yesterday, but gladd all is ok now. I think that injury is pretty common, so no beating yourselves up about it.

momi - congratulations!

sparkle - dairy intolerance at this age is quite common I think, I a lot of babies grow out of it as momi said. Have you started keeping a food diary to be sure? Quite a few foods can irritate the skin without being full on allergies, for example citrus and tomatoes because they are quite acidic. I have to confess I'm not convinced by the ODing in pregnancy thought - for example the Foods Standards Agency have recommended that the Dept of Health change the advice on peanuts, the FSA says that the evidence that exposure to peanuts causes allergies isn't strong enough to continue recommending avoidance, iyswim. But then maybe dairy s a completely different kettle of, well, cheese, who knows? It's a very tricky area.

Ok, farmville - someone (Fi, I think?) sent me a horse, but Facebook lost it!!!! I don't have a horse!!!! I accepted it, and then it disappeared . Hello, my name is FlippineckI'mafarmernow and I'm addicted to Farmville....

essenceofSES · 06/11/2009 21:15

flippin - I know that's probably the case but I just feel fed up this evening. I'd just like a night off!! He's been asleep again for nearly half an hour now so I'm hoping it continues.

DH is off to Cardiff tomorrow for the rugby and not back til Sunday afternoon. I need to do something out of the house tomorrow I think but I also need to do some clearing up and iron pile reducing...

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 06/11/2009 21:17

Ses You are welcome to pop up to Sutton and visit me if you want to get out and about.

essenceofSES · 06/11/2009 21:24

Ooh Febes - that sounds like a nice idea if you're sure. I have nothing planned so just say when and where is good for you. Would be lovely to meet you but don't worry if you've already got a busy day planned.

llaregguy · 06/11/2009 21:26

We need another thread title. Aren't we a chatty lot?

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 06/11/2009 21:38

Ses definately I've got no real plans for the next 2 days and DH is working on the house so I'll be bored. I'll send you a message on FB.

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 06/11/2009 21:44

ses - sending you peaceful night/rest of weekend vibes.

Ok day here, A has been grumpy but DD1 has been ok, guess it's too much to ask to have both of them in a good mood at the same time?

BonfireByTheStormySea · 06/11/2009 21:51

Hiya everyone... been watching a dvd with dh tonight so only just booted up the laptop. Off to catch up and back soon...

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 06/11/2009 21:51

Night, night! I'm dead tired. Hope everyone has peaceful night (me mostly ).

essenceofSES · 06/11/2009 21:53

Febes - have replied on FB. Thanks

flippin - thank you for your good wishes!

Really don't know how people cope with a lo and a toddler. Hats of to you all that do! (And as for those of you with 2 toddlers and a lo, well...!)

BonfireByTheStormySea · 06/11/2009 22:09

ses how was your mum today?

belgian how's your head?

febes I saw your fb update last night and meant to comment... you all had to go through that but was delighted that dd's arm popped back in.

dandy i've had 2 orders with amazon in the last few weeks and both came within 2-4 days using their super saver free delivery option. They were all books and one book was even sent with royal mail the wed just before the last strike and still arrived ok... although the home delivery network delivered the fastest. I've not used the totseat but always thought they were a great idea.

hitting post before i head off to page 38

essenceofSES · 06/11/2009 22:13

Fi - Mum was fine thanks. Got her home by 1pm. Fortunately it's her left shoulder and she's right handed. She's likely to be unable to drive for 2-3 weeks so I'm expecting to be a bit of a taxi service for her follow up appointments. Shame my 2 brothers live too far away to help! (Don't mind really )

Right I'm off to bed and hoping for a nice peaceful and sleep filled night for us all!

BonfireByTheStormySea · 06/11/2009 22:26

smoky G is more nosey about what all of us are doing than she used to be... also rolling from her back to front to back to front & then getting stuck a LOT and whinges... I flip her back over if she carries on whinging and as soon as i do she flips herself over and the cycle repeats itself over and over and over.. driving me only slightly nuts at times she also has the odd moment of letting out a cry if i have to go out of her line of vision. She's trying to draw up her legs under herself and i can see she's getting frustrated about not being able to move to where she wants to go... she so desperately wants to crawl i think!

sparkle I had a dairy intolerance as an adult for a while... it was more cows milk products that caused me problems... but I was fine with goats milk cheeses etc. you could always try some non-cows milk alternatives and see what happens.

flippin yes I sent you a horse... i was well peed off the other day when FV ate 3 gifts i'd accepted. I'll send you another tomorrow when I'm allowed

Belgianrockets · 06/11/2009 22:51

Evening all

My head is fine, sort of anyway. Had some paracetamol this afternoon, lol. I had a similar amount of wine this evening, but it hasn't gone to my head this time. Now everyone is in bed I'm enjoying a large glass of water and a bit of MN time. We had Indian take away tonight and it was lovely

dandy I showed your dancing lion clip to my family and they all loved it too. We'll all be singing the song now!

flippin Since today I've got 4 slings (had a delivery today ) and there's 1 OTW. My bank phoned me because of suspicious transactions on my card and it was all me ordering things from foreign websites

wheelybug I've got one waiting for C's b'day I think. I had it as a present for her birth. I'd put it on the list because I still had lots of baby stuff.

sparkle Like the other said. Dairy intolerance is fairly common in children. I'm also not sure how your dairy intake in pregnancy would affect H's (in)tolerance. I am a bit dubious about it being a factor. llare's suggestion of a food diary is a good one, it would help you to pinpoint what is causing it if it's caused by food.

febes Sorry to hear about what happened. Luckily it all turned out OK.

ses I hope the sleep issue resolves itself some time soon. Have you tried some techniques from e.g. the no cry sleep solution? I think that book is quite good, because it helps you figure out what is causing the bad sleeping, rather than just telling you what to do. It definitely helped me with finding a way to get C to sleep better in the day.

smoky around 6m babies have a developmental growth spurt (according to my brilliant book) which tends to make babies more clingy and difficult. So maybe that's what's happening with you. I have noticed C does prefer for me to stay in line of sight.

BonfireByTheStormySea · 06/11/2009 23:17

belgian I've had the bank phone me in the past too but i was also glad to know they'd phone if suspicious. Glad to hear your head wasn't too bad and that tonight it is unaffected

I'm yawning away so off to bed for me I think... hopefully G will sleep through tonight and not be up at 3.30am again tonight

muddleddaizy · 07/11/2009 09:14

Morning!

Fi thanks for your advice on fb! We had a late night last night so ds2 didn't wake till about 6ish and dh took him downstairs

Dandy had to look up what a totseat was, but I had one for ds1. I found it fine, except sometimes some chairs are too big for it to fit over. I don't think I discovered it before ds1 was about 9months old though. I found it great for controlling a wriggly toddler!

Sorry for the post and run, ds2 wants his breakfast!

Belgianrockets · 07/11/2009 10:49

Morning everyone,

Just a quick one before I get ready (all my house guests got ready first today, so that's why it's this late)

C was on my lap today at breakfast (Belgian style) and she kept grabbing at my plate, so I let her have a piece of my chocolate spread sandwich. She ate some of it and enjoyed it. So I'm a very proud (but slightly bad for the chocolate ) mummy at the moment.

Hope everyone is OK. We're going to have an exciting day, because tonight there's a big bonfire night event in the village. There's a pile of wood and rubbish to burn the size of a small house at the bottom of the green, so it's going to be bbbiiiiiggggg!

Right. Gotta run now and get showered.

Have fun today everyone!

APennyForTheMomi · 07/11/2009 10:50

morning.

I am getting payback for having 2 very good sleepers (dd1&2). smokytom, Harper has also turned from a fairly cheerful babe to a very, vry high maintenance one. i can't put her down anywhere - sitting, on tummy, on back, up high, low, etc - without her crying/screaming. i don't know what is wrong. i do know she needs cuddles. a friend was round yesterday and pick up H who stopped crying for a bit but as soon as she saw me started crying again. I can't go out of the room, to the loo, make supper, tend to dd1&2 .... anything!

sounds like some of the other LO's the same?

last night was indeed the worst. H woke up at 1.30 and wouldn't settle for anything so I gave her a feed. everytime i tried to put her back in her cot, she settled for about 5 min then woke up screaming. we left her there as long as we could stand it then one of us went to pick her up. i fed her again at 3.30 and 5.45. I feel like I've been on an overnight flight back from the US.

i hope everyone else had a better night!

ses, glad your mum is ok.
febes, I didn't know that about not swinging under 2s but will defn be cautious now. dd2 (2.2yrs) loves to be swung.

hi to everyone else.
going to in laws today so must get ready...

Belgianrockets · 07/11/2009 11:12

momi Sounds like classic separation anxiety kicking in to me. She's definitely the right age for it. She probably just wants to be near you all the time just in case you might vanish like my house guests. It will go, but in the mean time you might have a bit of velcro baby syndrome going on. It can be annoying, but at the same time it's a bit flattering when babies pick you as the one they want to stick to, lol.

Same here with the not swinginig under 2's. I've done it and luckily they've all survived this unharmed, phew.
