Here we go...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Jael · 04/11/2009 20:31

All it was, is J is having "breakfast" "lunch" and "dinner" homemade puree's, but he's still have 4-5 7oz feeds in 24hrs too I just wondered what anyone else's LO was having.

Mmumpowderplot · 04/11/2009 20:36

Jael sounds the same as DS - 3 meals of puree (savoury followed by sweet) and he is drinking 5 6oz feeds too. He has started waking up at night aswell, so very about that. Hopefully he will stop before I start work in January.

llaregguy · 04/11/2009 20:37

Well I am breastfeeding, but I've noticed that DS is feeding a lot less and isn't really as interested in feeding when he is. He is having porridge for breakfast. He is having puree which is either a pot of unidentified orange from the freezer (I forgot to label!) or whatever veg we're having. He did try brioche today which he loved, much to DS1's disgust. He was not happy that his baby brother was eating his brioche! So I suspect that he is far more interested in food than boring old milk, but I remember DS1 being the same at first. He loved fromage frais but more because I let him "paint" the highchair with it.

I know you asked about formula but I think we are having similar experiences.

pulaparkin · 04/11/2009 20:38

Jael- I know it's not exactly the same, but my DS2 is having 3 meals a day, plus 6-8 BF per 24 hours. He's still having 3 feeds at night- I want to put an end to that soon!

BonfireByTheStormySea · 04/11/2009 20:45

jael iirc when ds got to the stage he was having 3 puree meals a day... he still had a bottle on waking (before breakfast), mid morning, mid afternoon, after his bath before bed and one about 10pm/11pm (dream feed style)... so 5 bottles i think.

runningmonkey · 04/11/2009 20:45

Jael That sounds like what my friends lo is having and he is 7months. His Mum was telling me that she was wondering if it was too much but HV said he will reduce the amount of milk himself by refusing it when he is ready. No idea if this is right tho as I'm just a numpty first-timer

Well I didn't make it to slimming world tonight, stupidly arranged for the sainsbos order to be delivered right on A's bedtime so thought it would be a bit unfair on DH to leave him with that and his first solo bedtime. I WILL go next week.

In other news A munched on a whole pear today

I do like the new not sure why it means what it says it does tho, am obviously missing something.

llaregguy · 04/11/2009 20:55

It is a biscuit, running. It was suggested by someone after biscuitgate.

BonfireByTheStormySea · 04/11/2009 20:57

ds did drop feeds on his own... what happened was i would make up a feed with the usual amount and he gradually took less and less of the feed until he refused to have any at all. Then when he got very active... walking and such he needed a small snack at those time instead of the milk... a bit of fruit or buttered toast etc. had to be careful of snack timing though so it didn't impact on his lunch! Without the extra snacks though his weight was staying static as he burnt off everything of his main meals.

runningmonkey · 04/11/2009 20:57

Thanks

BonfireByTheStormySea · 04/11/2009 20:58

Ah HA! biscuitgate now i get it! lol

Febesisalittlefirecracker · 04/11/2009 21:00
Biscuit
LoobyWooooooooh · 04/11/2009 21:19

evening

just a quick post - I have not caught up on everyone's news on the thread and to be honest I haven't got the energy

however...
febes congrats on your new nephews
grumpy sorry you're feeling down

I have been going to see my mum every day in hospital with M most times which really cheers her up

it's really horrible seeing her so ill and looking so old and frail, on the plus side my mum is cleaner than she has been in months, on the minus her breathing is still bad - oxygen 24/7, nebulizer and antibiotics, but I know she's in the right place and hopefully she will agree to some help in the home after this

I'm really down at the mo - keep crying for no reason M is going leaps and bounds on the weaning - she eats everything I put in front of her

Pukester · 04/11/2009 21:19

I've just found out that chlorine (bleach) has no effect on Cryptosporidium and so my cleaning effort has meant zip. It might have been helpful for Environmental Health to mention that fact. Hydrogen Peroxide and Ammonia are the only things that kill it.

Jael It really bugs me when people tell children untruths. Half truths and very simple versions are fine but if they really did say he wanted to stab the queen then grrr. I always thought he was Spanish and Wiki just taught me he was from York and took the name Guido when fought in Spain.

LoobyWooooooooh · 04/11/2009 21:24

pukester I thought GF was spanish too

pulaparkin · 04/11/2009 21:25

bonfire- gosh it's amazing how things come back to you. I now remember DD having little snacks with a cup of water rather than milk feeds mid morning and mid afternoon. She loved little boxes of raisins, or cheese chunks. Although DS2 is still having lots of feeds, I think he is taking less on as sometimes he refuses the second boob.

Well we are trying something new tonight. DS2 usually has his arms swaddled but has been wriggling them free so we have had our first evening ever without a swaddle. He took a while to settle but then I found out he had wind, then he stirred at 9 but i got him back down with pick up put down, a dummy, and a back rub/shushing. Once he sleeps well without the swaddle i will tackle the dummy as i want him to be able to self-soothe. I gave him a fleecy blanket to hold and he seems to like it. I know he seems old for swaddling, but DS1 was 9 months before we stopped as whenever he tried he would just wake up loads. I am hoping DS2 gets the hang of it quickly...

I am off to bed now- I want to shift this cold that is brewing. DH is out at the pub and on the 6am train tomorrow so i need to get some rest before I have to get 3 DCs out for the school run, as we were late on Tuesday when I was last on my own.

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 04/11/2009 21:25

biscuitgate? Is this a major world event that I should know about?!

essenceofSES · 04/11/2009 21:31

flippin - ooh yes!! It made the BBC News website and the national press!!
Basically, Gordon Brown came on and did a webchat and (like most guests) was asked what his favourite biscuit was and didn't answer the question, even though he was asked TWELVE times!!
Hence why the emoticon is for "I have nothing to say on this matter" !!

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 04/11/2009 21:40

I ordered A's highchair this evening, weaning is getting closer!

Re dropping milk feeds - I seem to recall that DD1 didn't really start dropping any milks feeds (she was BF) until about 10 months, it seemed like she was eating vast quantities, but it all levelled off eventually.

looby - hope you're mum is improving, but hugs for you too.

at the bonfire stuff! I can't believe the wrong stories. I will admit to only knowing the vague details, but to tell children completely wrong stuff is mad really.

pukester - how annoying about all the cleaning, sombody could have told you. Hope everyone is on the mend now.

belgian - how is C now?

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 04/11/2009 21:45

SES, thank you! I am so out of touch . Actually only on mumsnet now really for you lot!

BonfireByTheStormySea · 04/11/2009 21:53

flippin i MN just for us may09ers but occasionally when no one is around I peruse the most active... that's how i knew about biscuit gate

BonfireByTheStormySea · 04/11/2009 21:55

looby not surprised you're feeling all over the place... I know what it's like to have a mum ill and in hospital and it's hard emotionally and physically. Hope she's improving steadily.

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 04/11/2009 21:59

spotted a horrendous typo in my earlier post. Looby, I meant your mum of course, not you're mum. I hate rogue apostrophes and incorrect usage of words.

Belgianrockets · 04/11/2009 22:00

jael that your dd's nursery would tell such a story. They're supposed to educate children, not tell them something that isn't true. Great that your DH has talked to them and it's sorted now.

weaning and milk C's not weaned yet, though she did play with a chip today, but as far as I can remember dd1 used to have about 4 milk (BF) feeds a day (waking up, nap time, bed time and 1x in the night) when she had 3 proper pureed meals a day.

Lol, love this emoticon. It did take me a sec to realise what llare meant with biscuit gate, but then G Brown came to mind.

looby Hope your mum gets better soon. It must be hard to see your mum like that. Sending you a big non-mny hug

febes Congrats! I hope the babies grow big and strong quickly and can go home soon.

ses Aaw, how lovely is your DH today?!

running Flippin has given brilliant advice re night nappies. I use the nature baby disposables overnight. C's such a heavy wetter that I'm not brave enough to try to go cloth overnight. For naps I use a really thick hemp booster + her cotton nappy and that tends to be soaked through after about 3h, so I can't imagine what it would be like over a 12h period.

Well, christmas came earlier here today for the dcs. My house has now turned into a hotel, with my parents and my cousin and her husband arriving and staying over. The dcs got lots of toys and biscuits of course and I got my b'day present 2 months early: a new camera. I had dropped my old one and even though it still worked, it had become a tiny bit temperamental, lol. They've all gone to bed now, because their internal clocks are 1h ahead, so I finally got the time to catch up.
C had a bad night last night. I think the coughing was waking her. Because of our eventful day, she barely napped today. Hopefully that'll mean that she'll have a good night tonight. I've als increased the slope on her bed, which should help with her breathing. Fingers crossed that should help (that and the 2 glasses of wine I've had tonight )

Oh and I've also got good news about my grandmother. Apparently she was very happy when they took her to the nursing home where she'll stay for 2 weeks. It was full of people she knew from the past, so she was very happy to be there. Hopefully she'll like it there, agree to stay, and come out of the depression that seems to be plagueing her. I've been v. worried because she keeps saying things like 'My biggest wish is not to wake up again one morning'

DandyDazzler · 04/11/2009 22:00

flippin When I saw this thread title I thought for a second it might have been started by you

Biscuitgate was also mentioned on Have I Got News For You. Don't think MN was painted in the best light though!

jael It wasn't clear from your first post that the teacher had told your DD that story - I assumed she'd picked it up from another child. Has the teacher admitted saying that and getting the queen/king thing wrong? If so, that's quite bad on her part and you might want to have a word with the Head. I did have a vague recollection that Guy Fawkes had jumped and was interested to learn more so just did a google check . Some sites do say he broke his neck when he jumped because of the noose the executioner had put round his neck, so I guess you can say he was hung but not drawn and quartered. Although the general line, including that of the BBC, is that he was simply executed and I can't see any reference that he was burned. I bow to DH's greater knowledge though

ladyH I was most amused to hear about my DandyLioness dance, particularly as I've just come home from my weekly dance class You clearly have my measure

BonfireByTheStormySea · 04/11/2009 22:00

pukester Hydrogen Peroxide and Ammonia! how on earth are you supposed to use these without causing yourself an injury? I normally couldn't stand the smell of the ammonia but if it was the only way I could get rid of the blighters after a marathon length of time I'd splash it everywhere! Did they say if it killed them instantly?
