Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My nephews were born!! Both over 2 kgs but in neonatal for up to 3 weeks yet. The specialists said her placenta wasn't working so the babies weren't growing properly for the past two weeks which is why they had to be born but they are doing well. She had 19 people in the OR at one point not counting her and my mum. Her DH was at her dance recital rehersal with 150 litttle girls so he is the star of the day. The show is on Sunday so she might be able to go but her DH said only in the audience. He is a truck driver but has been helping with her recitals for 10 years. This is the first year with her own school so very important that it goes well.

Ryan David 2045
Nate Blair 2010

I'm so happy and proud and homesick.

pulaparkin · 04/11/2009 09:53

COngratulations Aunty Febes!

So glad everything is OK. They are a good size even though they were early and hadn't been gaining.

smokytom · 04/11/2009 10:19

Wow, great news about the twins and lovely names

BonfireByTheStormySea · 04/11/2009 10:23

auntyfebes congratulations to all! bet you're looking forward to skyping as soon as they get home though xoxox

runningmonkey · 04/11/2009 13:26

Congrats Aunty Febes pula Not sure that this is a tried and tested method but A strains a lot when she poos. She ate some pear on Mon evening and did a LOT of poo on Tues!

How is everyone else doing today?

I have a question for the cloth nappy users. A is in cloth during the day but disposables at night as I was under the impression they would last a bit longer. Now she is going longer at night she seems to be waking with a super wet bum, and I am sure on more than one occasion it has been what has woken her rather than hunger as it has leaked through sleepsuit and sleeping bag. I have some bamboo terry squares and some fleece boosters, do you think this will be enough to last the night?

Better go, I made the mistake of trying to put A down in her cot for a nap and I can hear moaning

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 04/11/2009 13:55

Hello all!

febes congratulations on becoming an aunty! Glad all ok, but boo to the home sickness.

running - when you say fleece boosters, do you mean fleece topped boosters (so layers of terry/something else) or fleece liners? The girls are both in cloth nappies, A has one of her regular daytime nappies with an extra booster, or a Little Kiwi Quick flip nappy with no booster - both just about does a night, but do leak sometimes; I have to use a wrap the next size up to accommodate it all. DD1 is in a regualar nappy (MotherEase Onesize) with two extra booters. You can boost nappies with anything really, muslins aren't bad; microfibre dishclothes work quite well and are cheap; you could even try using two terries squares folded together instead of one. Nighttime cloth bums do end up look a bit weeble-ish though! Don't worry if her bum seems up in the air, I'm pretty sure it's not a problem, just look odd!

Peaceful day here, managed to clean the kitchen this morning while A had a monster sleep (3 hours!!!!), DD1 helped me with a duster!

smokytom · 04/11/2009 14:08

does the tooth fairy have an evil twin called the teething fairy?

runningmonkey · 04/11/2009 14:16

flippin ta for that, its fleece topped boosters I've got so will give them a go tonight with one of my bamboo nappies as they seem to be more absorbent than the others I've got (terry squares and some hemp shaped ones).

smoky am sure she does

essenceofSES · 04/11/2009 14:51

Loads to catch up on as ever! Will go and read in a minute if DS continues sleeping (on me! )

Had to let you know though that I think DH has attended that school we were talking about sending them to! For all my usual moaning, DH is being great at the moment
Yesterday he came home and told me he's ordered O a full Spurs kit with his name on the back of the shirt. I'm the Spurs fan, DH doesn't even like football!
Then he looked after O for me for 2.5hrs last night whilst I was out at a church meeting (ok he was asleep the whole time, but still...!). DH has also arranged to work from home next Thurs as I have to go to a meeting all day for the pharmacy committee I sit on.
On top of that, whilst I was out my friend phoned as her 4yo DD was upset and had been crying for 45 mins because she'd been learning about baby Jesus and had found out that he died. He managed to talk to her and explain and calm her down!
I am v v impressed with him!!

essenceofSES · 04/11/2009 15:11

Grumpy - good to have you back but sorry to hear about house troubles and PND. I can understand your reluctance to get the suppositories. Sending a big sloppy hug right back atcha

Febes - awww! Congrats!! Lovely names too

smoky - teething fairy, aah! explains a lot!

Jael - what was the name of the cream? I agree though, go back if necessary.

APennyForTheMomi · 04/11/2009 15:22

Febes! congrats, great news and glad all is well. sorry you're homesick, it's so unsterstandable.

ses, i'm so glad your dh is being lovely. they do have their moments, don't they? re: Jesus, i'm so surprised dd1 (nearly 4) hasn't asked too much about jesus dying. my mum has sent a few easter books and we occasionally go to church where the crucifiction statues are admittedly a bit horrific. if/when she asks, I'll just give your DH a ring .

smokey, teething fairy has stopped at our house too .

belgian, hope c's cough goes soon, poor thing.

flippin, you sound like you had a very productive morning. that's got to be satisfying.

running, good luck with nighttime nappies then.

everyone else, hope you're well.

H ok today. i don't have much baby friendly food around but she really enjoyed the pizza i made. i've now bought a cauliflower to steam so hope she likes that with a bit of cheese (i know i would).

DandyDazzler · 04/11/2009 16:44

smokey The evil teething fairy has been blardy haunting my baby for 4 months. Seriously. Am finding the constant teething rather irritating. Obviously it's me you should feel sorry for, not DS

febes Hurrah to safe delivery of twins!

grumpy Good to see you back, sorry to hear you've been feeling rough.

When I had a month of feeling depressed in Feb, when 6 months pregnant with DS, the GP referred me to the surgery's counsellor. He didn't think I needed to see her as my feeling low didn't last longer than a month, but we both agreed I should have a touch base session so that I had a support network just in case my depression worsened or I developed PND after DS's birth and needed counselling then.

I never got the session. Mentioned this periodically to my GP, but as I was OK, it wasn't urgent. I did see him about something else last week though, and mentioned that I never heard from the counsellor. He said he'd chased her 3x but would again. Cue me getting a phonecall from her offering me an appt next week. Only nine months after it was first discussed. It's not particularly helpful now - some of you may have noticed that I've actually had my baby since then. I'm going to go though, if only to make the point that I needed the appt in February and where the flip where you

ladyH Thanks so much for selling my normal lname to me. I shall revert back to it after I've done my Bonfire name, my Christmas name, my New Year 2010 name, my Valentine's name, my Easter name, my Summer Solstice name etc, etc.

Jael · 04/11/2009 16:52

Ses The cream was Metanium (sp?) bright yellow, doesn't wash out of clothes! lol

I am extrememely peed off so sorry if this turns into a rant...

Had a chilled day first of all, booked J in to the doctors, he agreed his bottom is very infected, and has prescribed another cream to use for a week, and if it doesn't clear up, to go back.

Anyways, DD comes home from nursery yesterday, very proud that she knows the story of Guy Fawkes...so here goes...Guy Fawkes wanted to stab the queen, but they caught him and the queen stabbed guy fawkes...and was adament that this was the story...so last night we sat DD down and told her a brief story of what happened. G.F wanted to blow up the Houses of Parliament, with gunpowder, but they caught him, and as punishment they put him on top of a bonfire, etc explained little about, we have fireworks because gunpowder is in fireworks, and they make them go BANG, etc trying not to make it sound too bad. She knows that it was a long time ago, which is why that was his punishment, and we wouldn't do that nowadays. We also told her that a queen wasn't on the throne at the time, it was a king, and she understood so...she's gone to nursery today and told her teacher, and on the way home she's told me her teacher told her off for telling the story, and that "She shouldn't say that" and that she called her naughty...so I'm quite upset and angry...Me and DP didn't go into gruesome gory detils, I mean geez DP knows more than me! The "basic" story is all I know, but I felt it was best she knew the truth, I'm just so mad, she hasn't done anything wrong as far as I'm concerned

pulaparkin · 04/11/2009 17:23

Jael- I would be annoyed too, I don't see why your story was any worse than the one about stabbing . What rubbish. And how upsetting for your DD who hasn't done anything wrong. It's a long time since i was at school, but i am not sure whether guy fawkes was burned or whether he was just tortured on the rack?. I thought the bonfire with guy on top was just to symbolise the fact that he tried to blow up parliament?. Anyway, if your DD is interested to know, then as long as you didn't scare her, then i don't see what the problem is.

My DD asked me about how jesus died after she had learnt about Easter. I said he was tied to a cross and died because he didn't have any food or drink, and you have to eat and drink to stay alive. I didn't tell her about the nails driven through his hands etc but when they ask, you have to give them an answer.

DandyDazzler · 04/11/2009 17:55

Guy Fawkes wasn't put on top of a bonfire Although that would be the better story ... He was exectued - hung, drawn and quartered.

Not worth getting very angry about until you've spoken to the teacher and clarified this. A three year old's re-telling of a conversation will not be the same as an adult's. Unlikely that the teacher would call a child naughty for reciting the correct Guy Fawkes story, or even an incorrect one. Teachers are used to hearing all sorts from young children. However, if your daughter told the class that Guy Fawkes was put on the bonfire, then I can see that the teacher may have corrected her.

llaregguy · 04/11/2009 18:21

Agree about talking to the school. My DS tells me all sorts of stories about school and hardly any of them turn out to be true. According to him, he sits in the corner and speaks to no-one. Oh, and today he ate nothing at snack-time, despite the tell-tale signs of tomato soup around his mouth!

DandyDazzler · 04/11/2009 18:25

llare The 'nobody plays with me, I have no friends' story or variations thereof is an absolute classic. I have heard it, as have all my friends with school-age children. The 'I can't remember what I did at school' (fifteen minutes ago) is another stalwart too.

llaregguy · 04/11/2009 18:28

I must say I'm quite glad when he tells me that he sits in the corner. It makes such a change from "I don't know" in response to every blardy question from me.

Jael · 04/11/2009 18:33

Dandy Actually Guy Fawkes wasn't executed, but I wasn't going to go into details like that with my daughter...he jumped off the ladder and broke his neck before they could execute him. The only details I wanted my daughter to understand was that 1) A queen was not on the throne at that time, it was King James, and 2) He didn't try and stab the queen with a knife and visa versa...my daughter's nursery teacher had seemed to have missed out "The Gunpowder Plot" in general...And as for Guy Fawkes being burned, I believe that "burning" was part of the torture that he recieved...

DD now tells the story...G.F was trying to blow up the houses of parliament with gunpowder, but they caught him in time, and punished him, and now we put a guy on the top a bonfire to "remember" him and light fireworks because they have gunpowder in, and make them go BANG...now I think that's not too bad for a 3 1/2 year old, and much better than the knife story about queens...

BTW DP has educated me on G.F I did not know thin info before now, apart from he tried to blow up the houses of parliament obviously...lol

DP has contacted the school now and spoken to the teacher, who has explained and aplogised...

HeadlessLadyH · 04/11/2009 18:49

Evening all. Its the witching hour isn't it? We are bathed and just settling down to milk. R only had a bottle at 5 so he can wait a bit!! I have to sit through a half hour of Nick Jnr so am MNing instead!

All I know about the gunpowder plot is precisely that. There was a plot to blow up Parliament with gunpowder. After that????

I guess next year, after DS1 starts school in January, I shall have to brush up on my history etc in preparation for the endless questions that will inevitably follow.

febes congrats to your sisters.

dandy you are welcome. I should have added the DandyLioness I envisage also does a little dance, in the style of Gene Kelly in Singing in the Rain (but the in plains of africa obviously). I think my imagination runs amok sometime.

ses can you get your DH to pass his good behaviour medicine around? My DH buggered off to the gym at 6.30 this morning, just as DS1 decided that he needed to dance to Move it move it. So have been on the go all day and DH not yet back from work despite a promise to be back at a reasonable time tonight. He is usually back for a bedtime story so hopefully in the next 15 mins... but then I have to start cooking. I can't remember the last time he cooked for us.

I see R eating the giraffe on his babygym so maybe he is feeling a bit peckish. Best get his bottle done then.

HeadlessLadyH · 04/11/2009 18:52

Sorry febes sister. You don't have sisters who have just given birth.

On and anyone else noticed the new emoticon
. LOL!!!

HeadlessLadyH · 04/11/2009 18:53

OH not on. Typing not great today. Doh.

llaregguy · 04/11/2009 18:58

Just a reminder for any fellow TV addicts: SPOOKS is back tonight!

Jael · 04/11/2009 19:09

Headless I knew nothing either about Guy Fawkes. DP is the brains in our house...lol

BTW is anyone weaning with puree's and formula feeding? Just wanted to ask a Q

BonfireByTheStormySea · 04/11/2009 19:15

Jael was to hear the story they told your dd! glad your dh managed to speak to them and sort it all out. We did purees and formula feeds with ds. This time I'm bf and not started weaning yet... what was your Q?
