Funny you should mention that Clara, I changed this afternoon Grin

I'm taking DD to the dentist in the morning so hopefully will know a bit more then. I guess if she loses them both she'll just adapt to it - when the DSs lost their front teeth one took to biting with his side teeth and the other didn't seem bothered at all. Not sure how someone so young would cope though - especially one who loves apples so much! I would imagine sucking her thumb would feel very weird too! Hopefully it won't come to that though (fingers crossed)

I don't know much about books aimed at 5yo girls, there was not much about for the boys at that age either. Amazon suggests mostly picture books for the 5-8 age category. Once you are home perhaps you could take her to the library and see what takes her fancy? I started reading 'proper' books with the boys when DS1 was 7 or so but DS2 (then coming up to 5) would just mess about - I think it was too much to concentrate on with no pictures. I started reading proper books to them again a few months ago, DS2 is now rising 8, and he's loving it! We've read the 2 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory books and are now onto C S Lewis - halfway through The Magician's Nephew.

No idea on thread name - I'm not particularly inventive! Only thing I could come up with was "Dec 2007 - when 3 becomes company" (only because DD is such a little person now that she does keep me company, its very important to her that she can boss me around we are friends) Perhaps something tantrum assertiveness related would be good given some of the recent posts Grin

clara, when DD1 was 5 we read all the Roald Dahl books together (at least it seemed like all!). You can get illustrated versions - not as many pictures as "picture books" but still enough to engage.
There's also a series called "Magic Puppy" "Magic Kitten" etc although I don't think they have quite as many pictures.
"Clifford the Big Red Dog" and other books from "Scholastic" are a good half-way house too although they become easy quite quickly IME.
The other thing we did was to turn on the sub-titles on DVDs which she loved even on quite well watched DVDs as she could pick up new things she perhaps hadn't caught by watching/listening.

beckle, DD1 had 2 front teeth missing for over 6 months and survived fine. Fingers crossed it won't come to that tho!

I went shopping for DD's birthday party on Sunday today and realised how much of a constraint it is that she doesn't like chocolate!

She also keeps insisting that she "doesn't like Christmas". She's so funny. No idea why she's so against it!

With my teaching hat on, parents often worry the book their child is reading is too easy - is this something we worry about as an adult? No it is enjoyable to read easy books

you could try some non-fiction - they often have fewer words but more challenging vocabulary, what about reading books to dd2? things like the happy family books and thre ones buzzy suggested, cookery books (whilst cooking) - go to your library there are loads of simple chapter books with lots of pictures
