Just checking that this worked....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Arcadie · 28/03/2010 17:32

I saw that Kelbel had her little boy but likewise figured that she'd name changed...... Congrats Kel if you're lurking...

BouncingTurtle · 28/03/2010 19:51

Verybusyspider - I did try some oil as well, I think the pharmacist recommended it. But it wasn't much cop. The syringing worked really well though.

verybusyspider · 28/03/2010 22:34

BT I think I need to take him back to docs - seems like a waste of their time for ear wax...

buzzybee · 29/03/2010 07:42

insy, my stepfather had his ears syringed recently and straight after suffered a bad vertigo attack, just so you know what a possible side effect could be. He's 78 so it may have been more to do with his age.

Ex has today sent me an email with proposals re DD1 which are halfway civil and sensible! I suppose if nothing else its a validation for my determination to keep my cool over the last few months...

BouncingTurtle · 29/03/2010 15:05

Wow Buzzybee that is amazing!

Verybusyspider, yes defo taken him to the docs, as he may well need to be referred to the ENT department to have it done. I think what he did was gave me a letter and I had to take it to A&E, and they sent me along to the ENT, because if they had done it the usual way (wait for an appointment) I could have waited weeks, and I was completely deaf in one ear and could hardly hear in the other!

It was slightly uncomfortable, not too bad sometimes felt like I was being poked with a needle though, but I did feel very dizzy afterwards, but that soon disappeared. I think it was because the spray a fine jet of air into your ear and it upsets your thing in your ear that helps your balance (can't remember what it is called!).

FreakoidOrganisoid · 30/03/2010 14:29

Insy I'd take him back, don't worry about it being 'only' ear wax.

The spiral thing is by bigjigs and is called the high level expansion kit. I got mine ds' from rimbalzo but am in two minds about recommending them-on one hand their prices are great on the other I had to wait 3 months to get it because I ordered lots at once and it wasn't all in stock so rather than sending out what they had they held it until they had all of it.

Buzzy glad your ex is being sensible at last.

DS has been ill over the weekend, sickness and diarrhoea, one lot came out of his nappy down both trouser legs so he was standing in a pool of it then when I changed him I realised it was also all up his top both front and back (thats sick btw!) so carpet now has both poo and sick on it, have scrubbed and scrubbed but still know it's there iyswim. DD reckons he is ill because we cut his hair and "took away his power".

kelbel · 30/03/2010 22:24

hi all, v quick post from me as im juggling allsorts at the mo but will post details tomorrow! who is caroline on here? anyway you prompted me on fbk to come on here and i kept meaning to so thanks! baby zac was born on sat 7.25pm after going into hospital at 3pm, i was 34 weeks and i was tiny so it was v unexpected although id had bleeding in pregnancy things had settled so was v out of blue, im out of hosiptal, zac in neo natal but doing well, im spending most of my time backwards and forwards to hospital, majing sure ds1 is happy and trying to kick start my milk with a helping hand, anyway back soon - thanks for your thoughts x

cazzybabs · 31/03/2010 10:40

FreakoidOrganisoid · 31/03/2010 12:29

Hi kelbel, congratulations! Must have been very scary but glad he is doing well.

DS is v v poorly

strandedatsea · 31/03/2010 16:37

Congratulations Kelbel - that must have been quite a shock, bet you weren't ready (did you even have a hospital bag packed??). Glad he is doing well, I hope you get him home soon.

Clairey - what is wrong with ds?

cazzybabs · 31/03/2010 18:17

Clairey - oh no... hope he is just very ill and not ill as in hospital - many hugs

verybusyspider · 31/03/2010 22:27

congrats kelbel - hope your little man is doing ok and you get him home soon x

clairey - whats up with ds?

ds1 was back at docs today, still loads of wax so have different ear drops for both ears this time and for 10 days, fingers crossed by time preschool starts he'll have full hearing back

We're now having house dilema, lovely house has come up in village which has awesome garden but needs work, dh can't decide if we should have another baby and maybe we should get house because if we do then we could fit them in... ahhh.... and I haven't even got back to work yet so committing to having to go back to pay bigger mortgage is scarey....

BouncingTurtle · 31/03/2010 23:16

Kelbel - my friend's baby was born at 34 weeks, spent 4 weeks in special care, is now a lively 1 yo, hope you little man will be the same!

FreakoidOrganisoid · 01/04/2010 12:04

Clara/Insy/cazzy ds has had d&v, yesterday he lay down ALL day and I couldn't get him to drink anything because he was scared of it coming back out. I could only get a phone consultation and the gp said give him a big dose of calpol and if no improvement within an hour call back and he'd admit him into hospital. He kept the calpol down that time and went back to sleep but when he woke up he drank a little bit of water and asked for dinner! He's still not right but more just weak than writhing around in pain now and his poo today has been more just runny than proper diarrhoea so fingers crossed he is on the mend.

DD was sick all night last night but seems ok today.

Insy house sounds good, esp if it means your dh is agreeing to another baby!

BouncingTurtle · 01/04/2010 13:48

Oh poor little man, Freaky
Is he any better today?

strandedatsea · 01/04/2010 16:45

That sounds pretty worrying Clairey (sorry can't call you freaky!) - it must be so much harder when you are on your own. I hope he is well on the road to recovery.

I am knackered as the girls keep waking up before dawn - I think the wretched birds keep waking them. We're meant to be having friends round tonight and tomorrow going out for a swanky meal as it is our 5th wedding anniversary but all I want to do is sleeeeeeeep.

verybusyspider · 01/04/2010 22:14

clairey - how is he doing this evening? its horrible when they are so completely not themselves when they are ill
made an offer on the house, seeing what happens and dh has put a spanner in the works about suggesting he would have another baby as now I have no idea what would be for the best...

did everyone see on FB that Armani's waters broke today!! hoping for an update soon

All good here, great school hols so far, took boys swimming with my mum, first time ds3 has been (he's 9 months) he hated the first 15 mins then really chilled out, found an ace pool down the road we can take 2 under 4's to one adult in the childrens pool so will be able to do it with dh at weekends too, just wish weather would improve

also weirdly now ds1 is having his drops for ears his appetite has trebbled, he ate his first apple today (the boys has never really eaten fruit unless its in a smoothie) weird, ds2 is so the middle child I never seem to mention him on here! only that doctor thought he might be allegic to something as he has a constant clear runny nose and a bit of a flemmy cough... anyone know of anything similar? now wondering what would cause it

cazzybabs · 01/04/2010 23:41

YEH for Arcade having her baby

becklespeckle · 02/04/2010 00:10

Hello all, sorry to have been away so long (again), I keep meaning to catch up but never seem to have the time . I've had a nasty cold and sinusitus and then DS1 and DD have both had some virus thingy which has given them a temperature and made them stroppy (well, DD anyway ) but that's about it. They seem a bit better today (touch wood) so hopefully are on the mend. I still don't have a date through for my op yet but I think it has to be done within the 4-6 week timescale they gave me at the last appointment so it should be in the next couple of weeks, I spoke to the hospital last week and they said they are trying to "juggle things around" to fit me in. Going for an MRI scan on Tuesday which is part of a research thingy to see what they can tell about follicular lumps from MRI, I think it will be interesting (in reality probably boring though).

BT about the house, hopefully you will find something soon that is totally perfect I so could have written your post about not liking crowds and struggling to separate speaking from background noise, I have exactly that problem! My handwriting is also terrible and although I don't miss out words when writing or typing, I frequently do when reading aloud as my mind reads faster than my mouth can talk

Clairey, how is DS now? Poor little man I hope DD is okay too (and you). I love the pics of their haircuts, DS looks very gorgeous with it short - at DD's comment about his hair taking his strength away! I also don't think it is unusual for toddlers to be obsessed with colours and patterns, DD was mad about colours for a bit and still has to name colours of everything (including the other night when she woke me to say "there's a big green bogey in my bed Mummy" - and there was - nice.) She likes patterns too, her pens/pencils/crayons get lined up neatly on the table when drawing (which she is obsessed with - she holds a pen properly too [proud mummy face]), she loves threading buttons and doing jigsaws and anything else which has 'order'. There is a wide range of what toddlers can do and like to do at this age, they're all different. In short, I think your DS sounds pretty normal.

Skid, glad to hear you are all settling in together as a family . I don't think you're a bad Mummy for putting off the potty training either - I certainly would if I had a 3 week old baby! Hang on, I don't have a 3 week old baby but I'm putting it off until summer anyway...

Insy, it's not a waste of time to take him back to the doctors for earwax, I'm glad you did! Hopefully the new drops will help him! Oooh, so your DH is considering another DC...?! If you can manage the new house then I would definitely think about it seriously, even if you have no more DC then you will have more space and then if you decide to have another then you will have the room already!

Kelbel, congratulations! Zac is gorgeous, hopefully he'll be home with you very soon xxx

Buzzy, its interesting that there are links between sensitive and obsessive children and G&T, DS1 always has been sensitive and obsessive about things (lining up cars by colour when he was 18 months or so, still does it at 9...) and he has been registered as G&T for maths, DS2 is also sensitive and obsessive (although less so) and has above average maths skills too. I was the same I think. at ExH being reasonable! Yay! Long may it continue

Clara, your poor friend, how is she doing?

Hi Dundee! Please come back out from under your stone! How are things with you?

Yes Arcadie is in labour (after playing an April Fool's joke on FB this morning) - good luck Arcadie!

Ah sorry, I seem to have written an essay again. Must try and post more often!

becklespeckle · 02/04/2010 00:13

Ah, it appears Arcadie has had her little one while I've been typing - congratulations A little boy!

BouncingTurtle · 02/04/2010 08:32

She did indeed A gorgeous baby boy!

Skid - I've not started potty training, I have ordered some books from Amazon to help, but I am still not convinced he is quite ready yet.

DrSkidaddle · 03/04/2010 12:42

hello! seems like i've been away for ages - don't know how you still manage to mn with 3 dc beckle and cazzy!

clairey - your poor liitle ds - hope he is ok now. my ds1 is also really poorly - temp of 41 and very listless - has been sleeping all morning it's so scary when they're really ill, isn't it? hope dd is ok too

buzzy - great news about your exh - hope he has finally realised that he needs to be reasonable for the sake of your dd

insy - how excitning about the house and esp. about dc4!! what are your reservations exactly? are they purely financial or are you also ambivalent about having another baby?

arcadie - well done once again! did anyone see her live mn labour on the march antenatal thread - her DH posted updates throughout!

all ok here although now that dh is properly back at work the reality of having 3 dc under 5 has hit home and it is hard! ds2 wants to suck all the time and does want to be put down ever so I have caved in and got him a dummy which has made my life easier but I feel wierdly guilty about it - as if I haven't been able to provide for him myself or something... DD is great with him though and spends hours lying with him in his baby gym and singing to him [smle] and ds1 is sweet with him too. just the sleep deprivation and school runs which are really wearing me out - thank goodness for the Easter hols!

oH and happy easter

strandedatsea · 03/04/2010 18:39

Wow just finished reading Arcadie's live on tinternet birth, she (or her dh?) posted the details about 2 minutes after he was born! It makes me (almost) want another, but then I read Skid's post and remember how hard it is all too...

Skid - I went through the guilt thing with the dummy when I first gave it to dd2 but no idea why. She does still have it but only at night and it's obviously given her great comfort over the years so why do I worry about it? Most babies will suck on something it might as well be a dummy.

insy dd2 has an almost constant clear runny nose and a cough as well, I think it might be an allergy. We think something like dust as it has been so dry here.....

buzzybee · 04/04/2010 01:39

Arcadie - huge congratulations!!!

Beckle - how are you bearing up with the waiting? Have you found out anything more useful?

Clairey and Insy, I hate it when the DC are sick. You feel so helpless! DD2 is running a bit of a tem today and very listless but not that bad thanksfully. A bit of a shame as its DD1's birthday today, but at least we did most of the birthday stuff (party etc) yesterday given that today as Easter Sunday everything's shut!

BT and skid, i've bought DD2 some "Dora" undies and she likes to wear them over her nappies - that's as far as we've got yet!!

Insy and Clara, dd2 had a cough almost constantly from age 6 months until last Aug with a few months last autumn when it eased off a bit. In Aug last year I got fed up and decided to see if medicine could help. GP gave her lorapaed (baby antihistimine) as a test in case it was an allergy and it really seemed to help. So in Nov I took her to be allergy tested for dust, mites etc and ... NADA! The hospital specialist said he sees a lot of toddlers with similar and its almost always just that they are very sensitive to viruses but always react with a cough and as soon as they shake off one, they get another - except over high summer/autumn when viruses aren't around much. He thought the lorapaed probably helped as it dries up the sinuses etc and suggested we keep using it as necessary as it has few side effects. That's not to say your DDs don't have an allergy of course. He also said that children usually develop environmental allergies later (like 3-4 years and more) so its very unusual to find in a 2 year old). Not hugely helpful but actually probably the better outcome since hopefully she will develop stronger immunity with time whereas an allergy is often for life.

I'm still in disbelief that ex-H might be slightly more reasonable. I'm waiting for him to return to being a prat. But really hope that someone has talked sense into him and it will stay like this. Not holding my breath though...

Arcadie · 04/04/2010 02:02
