Just checking that this worked....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DrSkidaddle · 19/02/2010 21:36

gosh beckle - that sounds like a bit of an ordeal, you must be glad it's over. Is it really 8 weeks until you get the results? Why on earth would it take so long? Have everything crossed for you and hope your DH is looking feeding you grapes in bed and giving you two weekend lie-ins!

Like your dream clairey - also like the name but know my ridiculous DH won't even contemplate it (gabrielle is nice too arcadie - you like?) - hoping it won't be too long now (see thread in childbirth about smelly knickers!!! - I'm sure I went through all this with DS as well, it's like bloody groundhog day....)

clara - love the idea of a sympathy-superwoman smiley!! We have already stopped doing it properly - I mean wash bedding and towels EVERY DAY - surely that is ridiculous - think I'd rather have threadworms!!

RE DD's sleep - think our DD (4) is also worse at sleeping than DS - she also has quite a few nightmares which genuinely terrify her and I would be happy for her to come in with if if we weren't expecting a baby any day (due tomorrow!)

dundee - somehow managed to miss your post completely - really sorry to hear about your MIL. How is your FIL (and your DH) bearing up? Must be such a terrible time for all of you

RE the operation - I was going to have my tonsils out as a child but never did. Always wished I had as I used to get tonsilitis all the time. So obviously I don;t know what it's like but regular bouts of tonsilitis are horrible and if you can do something to prevent that I would do it personallly

becklespeckle · 20/02/2010 22:34

It wasn't too bad actually Skid, the waiting bit is far worse! I've no idea why the wait is so long, it is a standard leaflet sent to everyone, regardless of the procedure they're having in that dept, so I'm hoping they'll come through a bit quicker (please please please)

How are you? Hopefully snuggling your new baby

buzzybee · 21/02/2010 05:30

Beckle, glad to hear you sounding so up-beat. Hopefully you will hear much earlier.

Dundee, yes I'd def have it done. Repeated infections sound awful.

Poor you skid, just when you should be resting up.

clara lol at the hospital bag analogy but honestly it does feel quite similar to having your first baby, i.e. having absolutely no idea at all what to expect, getting no sleep first night he's home, trying to be consistent but desperately wanting to give in and let him sleep on the bed, I could go on! He is very cute though.

verybusyspider · 21/02/2010 20:27

beckle - glad your appointment went ok and hoping you get the results soon, did they give you any idea how long you'd have to wait?

drskid - how are you doing? and how are you coping with the washing etc? what a nightmare just before baby arrives

dundee - sorry no advice here I have no idea

clara - on dd1's sleeping and her being in your bed being the worse thing, you just have to do what gets you through till you have the energy to tackle it, it won't last forever - thats my mantra at the moment. Mine are getting better but sleeping now is way way off, I'm hoping I'll give them a week and they naturally fall back into sleeping well

Not a bad weekend here although I'm hoping for not too much snow in the midlands tonight, just enough to keep dh at home but pre school open unlikely I think!
We spent morning at Bham Airport plane watching and waiting for IL's plane to land, cheap morning out and boys loved it, took a picnic too and even treated ourselves to coffee and cake (yeap quite sad I know..)

cazzybabs · 21/02/2010 21:13

BTW what has happened to Suey - when was she due?

Evie has either been adorable all weekend or crying - is their no middle ground with that child...mind you she has been a complete Daddy's girl - screaming and crying when I had her for nappy changing/post bath to completely cooperate when he had her. Mind you I would love another week off with her - don't want to g back to work tomorrow - I have to tell them....

I tell you what shall we make a deal - who ever wins the lottery first pays for us all to meet up?

cazzybabs · 21/02/2010 21:16

Skid - are you in labour.....why have you not posted updates....

Whoever has threadworms - we have had them here too...mind you easier than nits apart from the bed washing etc

DrSkidaddle · 22/02/2010 03:01

Hi cazzy - well I think I might be in early labour (hence posting at 3am!). Have been having contractions since 9pm and can;t sleep so thought I would do a bit of MNetting and see what happens.... Have had a bit of a show as well so something must be happening

Can't believe you have threadworms too! Are they really easier than nits?? Haven;t had to deal with that yet. Oh the joys of parenthood

How is your pregnancy going? How many weeks are you now? I have also been wondering about Suey - hope all is going well

insy - sounds like a great day out! Mine would love that also. We spend many a half day watching bin lorries/diggers which is a slightly less exotic version of plane watchign I supppose. Hope you get just the right amount of snow tonight!

buzzy - how exciting you have your puppy! A friend of mine got a puppy at the same time I had DS and I couldn't believe the similarities between our lives!

beckle - I wonder if that time they give you is a maximum - and that you'll get your results a lot sooner - really really hope so.

Right send me some labour vibes ladies - I am sick of waiting for this baby to come out!

cazzybabs · 22/02/2010 18:09

To be fair no threadworms at the moment (touch wood, but we have been there)

OHHHH how exciting....labour not threadworms

I am somewhere between 16- 17 weeks

claraquack · 22/02/2010 20:34

Oh good luck Skid - I really hope you are tucked up in bed with your newborn by now.

Insy - that sounds like a perfect outing to me. We have a small airport right round the corner from our house so watch the planes coming in and out all the time. As well as the cruise ships!

Cazzy - 17 weeks already? Are you going to find out the sex? I can't keep up with everyone's pregnancies. Arcadie also due soon, no?

OP posts:
DrSkidaddle · 23/02/2010 16:21

Arcadie due end of March

cazzy - hope you're feeling relatively OK then at 16/17 weeks? That was when I stopped feeling sick at least.

Well after contractions from 9pm-3am on Sun night, they abruptly stopped and nothing since I am about to explode with frustration. Plus my dad keeps phoning me in the middle of the night (he is in India and obviously hasn't thought too hard about the time difference) to see if I've had the baby - really, you'd think he'd know after 5 grandchildren that you DO NOT phone and ask that question, and less so in the small hours, grrr.

So next time I post saying I've had a show/am having contractions etc just remind me how it is going to turn out! DD said to me just now, 'next Christmas when... do you think the baby will have come of your tummy by then, mummy?' Probably bl**dy not!

BouncingTurtle · 23/02/2010 18:48

Oh dear DrSkid, I feel your frustration!

Quick hello from me, my laptop has gone to silicon heaven (waaaahhhh) so less opportunity to mumsnet, as by doing so on my work pc, my benignly neglectful parenting turns into outright neglectful parenting.

DH is currently bathing DS so thought I would have a quick catch up.

DS's language is improving, he said "more" today and then when I said "what did you say:?" he said "I said more!" really clearly, which was fantastic! Still doesn't do nouns or please and thank you.

His eating is getting worse, and the list of things he will eat is rapidly diminshing. I maybe force to feed him on a diet of cereal, yoghurt, bananas and Asda kids ready meals to get food into him as he turns his nose up everything else

cazzybabs · 23/02/2010 19:34

I am going to have my dating scan on Friday - panic panic panic. I can't help worrying - the midwife found the heart beat last time...but then she did and I still went on and miscarried....but I guess the scan will reveal any problems

becklespeckle · 24/02/2010 00:11

Cazzy, easier said than done but try not to worry, a m/c last time does not mean another this time, I know it is especially hard when you have had a late m/c, I never feel 'safe' until I reach 16+ weeks and have heard a heartbeat. I'm sure your scan will be fine and baby will be fine (and will be sending positive vibes on Friday). Your Evie is the opposite to mine with getting changed/bathed etc, mine won't let Daddy do it even when I am at work, she gave him hell this evening . I like your deal BTW, if I win the lottery first I'll pay for the meetup...I vote we meet at Clara's house!

Skid, I'm sending you loads of positive labour vibes... its horrible when you go overdue, you feel like you'll never have your baby (especially when people keep asking if you've had it yet)! Thanks for your good wishes again too

Insy, your trip to the airport sounds great! It's just the sort of thing children love, I know my boys would enjoy it! I think I am looking at about 8 weeks before I will get my results back, I think they put different stuff on the cells to see how they grow to find out what they are so I guess it takes time...not much comfort when you're waiting though.

BT, great news about DS's talking, especially impressive that he remembered what he had said later on As for food, my DS1 was particularly fussy but I think most children of this age start to turn their nose up at foods. I pandered to it with DS1 until he was about 5 but got fed up with cooking separate meals. Once I started giving him what we had he eventually started eating more variety. DD gets what we have, if she doesn't like it she goes without. If she eats nothing at all (rare) I will give her a snack a fair bit later on though.

Buzzy, how is the new puppy settling in? Have you given in and let him sleep on the bed yet?! I bet the girls are loving him!

FreakoidOrganisoid · 24/02/2010 11:12

BT lol at your ds and "I said more" Did he say it in a stroppy teenagery fashion? Ds does a great foot stamping hands on hips "It's not fair" atm

Re food my only advice would be to just keep offering and if he doesn't eat it take it away. Easier said than done when it comes to worrying about it I know and I clearly remember yelling "will you just bloody eat something" at dd at least once But she has gone from eating dry cheerios, toast, plain pasta, rice, peas and carrots (and only about 3 mouthfuls) at 18 months to eating almost everything I put in front of her. Also try not to think "oh he won't eat that" because sometimes they surprise you- dd's favourite foods are mushrooms and olives.

Good luck for the scan cazzy, I was terrified before mine and must be harder if you've had a mc.

Beckle I second Clara's house for meetup Had better start buying lottery tickets if I'm hoping to win it I suppose!

Skid bet those cx have done lots of good and you will now have a fast and easy labour (lets hope so anyway). I had stop start labour with ds and it was v frustrating.

DrSkidaddle · 24/02/2010 13:12

Good luck for Friday cazzy - it must be so scary but once you've seen their heartbeat hopefully you can relax and enjoy you pregnancy (well until you go overdue like me and then you can come and rant about it on MN)

BT - well done to DS for both speech and memory skills! Agree with beckle and clairey to try not to care and just offer different foods and be completely nonchalant about it (hard I know). My DD is another one who was quite fussy and will now eat almost everything - she has just had raw celery, carrot, green pepper and cucumber with hummous and olives for her lunch - DS had dry toast! But I am trying not to worry about him because I am hopeful he will eat like DD in a couple of years.

clairey - Am almost hoping the fake contractions didn't do anything as my latest fear is that labour will be so quick that DH won't have time to get back in time (his work is an hour and a bit away when traffic is OK) - imagine myself groaning with the baby's head crowning in my living room with 2 DC scared out of their minds (or possibly finding it hyseterically funny - not sure which is worse!)...

any more news on the window cleaner?

claraquack · 24/02/2010 15:26

Skid - I went 11 days over with dd2 so I feel for you. Did you watch Eastenders the other night (I realise it sounds wierd that I am watching it out here but there are ways and means and they have become like best friends to me)? Go and lock yourself in an office somewhere, break the door handle, and you are bound to go into labour, a la Zainab.

A friend of mine went into labour with her dd2 so fast that her husband, an airline pilot, was still in the air when she was born. He was told the news by the air traffic controller when he landed!

Cazzy - good luck for friday. I was lucky never to have personally experienced a miscarriage but lots of my friends did so I know how worrying it is waiting to find out everything will be ok. I am sure it will be.

BT - agree with what everyone else has said, keep offering him different foods but don't get too upset if he doesn't eat it. Does he eat better at nursery (if he goes)? Most children do. Dd2's toddler class do a really good thing of having food tasting, a different fruit or veg each week. Because of this she now eats carrots and grapefruit, as well as a local vegetable called cho cho (sort of like a marrow).

By the way, you probably won't all want to come here soon as there is a severe drought and the water situation is becoming critical. No one really knows what is going to happen as this is unprecendented but we are only getting mains water once or twice a week at the moment (we have large tanks) - someone I know has not had water for 6 weeks. I am starting to get quite worried.

OP posts:
Arcadie · 24/02/2010 20:20

Clara Folloing your water crisis on FB - so sorry - really hoping you get some soon and that you don't have to evacuate

Freakoid I LOVE the name Gabrielle. LOVE it. It ticks all my boxes. I'm totally suggesting it to DH when he gets home.

BT Loving the stroppy toddler "i said more" malarky. DD doesn't use any sentences yet but communicates through clipped noun verb combos eg: Me: "why is Lila crying?" DD: "Mimmy ( her name for herself), Lila. pinch. Face"
It's a bit like teaching GCSE French again in terms of the grammatical accuracy!

Cazzy ABSOLUTE best wishes for Friday - what a tough time of waiting. There is NO good reason everything shouldn't be just fine. Keep telling yourself that eh?

Skid Hi again - the threadworms would have just about finished me off. Kudos to you for not just phoning in sick from life and getting DH to take the kids to his parents...

me update cos I'm so vain.... 35 +5 weeks. Due end of March. Expect no news until mid April. Although I'm doing EVERYTHING to get this one to come on time. EVERYTHING people....

cazzybabs · 24/02/2010 20:22

Clara - when we win the lottery will bring water with us

blimey sounds a bit scary though - global warming or something else?

claraquack · 24/02/2010 21:55

Cazzy - don't know, they chopped down a lot of their rain forest to build on the land, also there is a very heavy strain on the water now with resorts, golf courses, cruise ships etc.

They have now declared a state of emergency. Which means we can be arrested and sent to jail for using a hosepipe, apparently

OP posts:
FreakoidOrganisoid · 25/02/2010 11:16

Scary Clara. There was severe drought in bw when I was there and the dam was almost completely dry as well as the delta. Remember being in a Very Important meeting at work once and it started to rain and everyone just leapt over the boardroom table and ran outside Was really annoying though because everyone had really strict restrictions but then the lawns of all the hotels were still green and they still had loads of flowers etc while everywhere else was bone dry and dusty-seemed like a real waste and mix up of priorities, elephants were dying and people dehydrated but the hotels looked nice

claraquack · 25/02/2010 14:27

Clairey - yes I suspect we'll all jump up and run outside if it starts to rain properly!
The problem here is that they are terrified of putting tourists off as the economy of this country relies so heavily on them. Apparently the government are trying desperately to buy a desalination unit and bring it to St Lucia in time for when the water runs out...I heard today 6 weeks (it keeps changing but that was what the Agriculture Minister told my friend's husband who is regional manager for Sandals).

OP posts:
DrSkidaddle · 26/02/2010 17:19

gosh how scary clara fingers crossed for lots of rain for you very soon. I have also seen what clairey talks about where hotel lawns are perfectly green and ordinary people have no water to drink . But I suppose it is a bit of a nightmare when the economy is so dependent on tourism

hope it went OK today cazzy?

arcadie - LOVE the idea of phoning in sick from life - might try it if this baby doesn't come this weekend...

crossing my fingers for you that this one comes early (well earlier than your other two at least...)

buzzybee · 27/02/2010 08:36

Hope it went well cazzy!

Skid, the waiting is very boring isn't it. But maybe you're a new mum again by now?!

Clairey - did you get to the bottom of the sweaty feet smell?

Arcadie - I know what you mean about the sentences with no joining words! Whenever we get in the car, DD pipes up "cafe, ice cream, library, cafe, pool, playground" basically a list of all the places she'd like me to take her to! I think the best sentence she's said is something like "me bring home".

Beckle, new puppy is trialing my patience but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. He does at least sleep through the night is his crate which I'm profoundly greatful for. He has massive doses of separation anxiety - so am going to have to launch a training regime to get him to realise that when I leave the room I will come back. i keep telling myself its worth it for DD1.

Speaking of which I see ex-h has put his house on the market so move to UK getting closer. Poor DD having to live there while that's happening - brings back horrid memories for me of selling the house we lived in and the nightmare that was the moving out day when it all became final. But I think its probably still better that she spends as much time with him as poss before he does go.

BouncingTurtle · 27/02/2010 09:02

Buzzy - I'm sure puppy will get better once he has settled in properly, I hope he is providing a useful distraction for your dd1.

Claraq - gosh that sounds really scary, hope the crisis gets resolved soon, perhaps some raindancing might help?? Nah seriously, it makes you realised just how lucky we are living in the western world, and not having to worry about water shortages

Arcadie - woohoo not long now!

Freaky - did you ever have words with your exH about not walking in unannounced?

Skid - thinking of you, hope you are holding a snuggly newborn

Cazzy - oh bless you, I was the same when I had my dating scan when pg with DS, was so worried about another m/c, I hope everything went well with your scan.

Thanks you all for your kind words about DS's food and speech, he has added "Boo" and "more" to his commonly used words now!

Fecking Estate Agents are totally useless Apparently they has been interest but people are put off by the fact that our house (which is a semi) is the same price as a house down the road (a detached), I don't think the EA have been trying hard enough to get them to come and look (our house is much bigger) and they told us to advertise at that price in the first place
We have seen another house which looks really good, hoping DH can go see Sunday night!

cazzybabs · 27/02/2010 17:04

Scan was fine - baby all happy...though definatly nor going to make it to Sept - ahhhh I am so peeded off with myself..anyway it is healty and happy and that is the main thing..

come on skid - are you in labour now?????
