Oh, poor little thing, Gumps. Have you tried ice pops or calippos, they will help if he has a temp and also cool his mouth down and numb the sores. You could also add ice cubes to his drinks as I usually find this distracts little ones from there poorly for a couple of minutes as well as encourages them to drink and lowers the temperature. I know you can use Anbesol oral gel for normal mouth ulcers, would that help with the ulcers from HF&M?
People tend to say that its only a minor childhood illness, but I don't agree. Its horrible, especially as the mouth sores make them not want to eat or drink anything.
An important thing to note is that the virus is shed in faeces for several weeks so you have to be extra careful with supervising handwashing etc.
Hopefully he should be feeling much better within 3-4 days of him first getting poorly.
Well, I have just returned from a lovely, lovely dentist who was very hands off, told me I actually have very good teeth (yeah, that's because I haven't let a dentist touch 'em for 22 years ) and no problems with my gums, took 3 xrays and then explained that I either need an extraction or triple root canal! I have to go back on Thursday at 2.00 with my mind made up. [why haven't we got a panic emoticon?]
He was very good, even showed me a little digital video on his computer of exactly what they do for a root canal and spent a lot of time talking through the pros and cons with me.
Anyone have any experience of root canals? I have absolutely no idea what to do. He said it wouldn't be painful, but that an extraction would probably be easier for me to handle, as I am so dentist phobic. Thing is, then I would be left with a gap, which most people manage fine with, but isn't exactly attractive. He also said, some people get problems with the gap and then need an implant bolted into the bone, which he thinks I wouldn't be able to cope with. Apparently, I could go to a root canal specialist at the same surgery, but it would be private and cost £600! Thank heavens for my maternity exemption card!
Apparently I was very brave.
Have booked the boys and dd in for a check up on Friday morning, I don't want them getting as frightened of dentists as I am.
In other Moosey health news this afternoon: My ear infection and sinus infections have started to clear up on their own. Sinuses are beginning to drain and my ear is definitely less crackley and painful than it was before.
On yet another topic, we have noticed that ds1 seems to be a lot worse behaved after eating cheddar cheese sandwiches. Now we have always known that whenever he is ill he becomes a bit dairy intolerant for a couple of weeks and we have to switch over to soya, but bearing in mind that we are going to get him looked at in relation to ASD, it suddenly occurred to me in the middle of thie night yesterday that it could possibly be gluten/casein thing?
So I have done a fair bit of reading and think an exclusion diet might be worth a go. I have ordered a whole stack of free from stuff from Tesco, making sure to include plenty of treats so he doesn't feel hard done by and we are going to give it a go and see what happens.
Ooo gotta go, Mum has just arrived.
Catch up later.
