April 2007 - The one where we despair about coughs and colds; sickness bugs; cheeky behaviour and the amount of tinsel and fairy lights ALREADY in the shops!!

That's so sad Elkie. Unfortunately DH's colleague's DD didn't make it past Saturday night . Even with so many advances in healthcare there is often so little they can do when babies are just born too soon .

oooggs · 15/11/2009 19:49

dippy that is lovely - wish you had a boy one

elkie - that is so

My career break has been approved I am now a lady of Leisure no money . I have looked into college courses and can do one an afternoon a week (fits in with school pick up) at the local college (one street away) but must have a work placement as it is NVQ based. But won't be doing that until ds3 starts pre school at 3.

oooggs · 15/11/2009 19:50

oh Bramshott that is terrible her poor parents, I cannot even imagine what they are going through

Bramshott · 15/11/2009 20:01

I know Oooggs . Now I have to get a different sort of card and wrestle with what to write in it.

What gestation was your DD1 Dooby, if you don't mind me asking?

StealthPolarBear · 15/11/2009 20:29

That's awful Bramshott, so sad

Doobydoo · 15/11/2009 21:12

sO SORRY bRAMSHOTT[SAD]
mY DD WAS NEARLY 33 WEEKS sO NOT VERY EARLY AT ALL.tHO APPARENTLY THIS GESTATION CAN HAVE PROBLEMS TOO.

Doobydoo · 15/11/2009 21:14

EEK,Sorry re caps I suppose it depends on lots of factors as to outcome at a later gestation...not making myself AT ALL clear

Northernlurker · 16/11/2009 08:02

Oh Bramshott that's so .

ScarletBandit · 16/11/2009 10:47

Bramshott, that is so very sad. I can't even begin to imagine how they must be feeling right now

Not much happening here today, planning to take it easy (if possible) as I have a night shift booked for tonight. Happy to be doing it though as the money will be very very handy for Christmas! Am also booked to work Saturday afternoon too, and I am very grateful for the extra work atm.

CaptainDippy · 16/11/2009 17:59

Oh Bramshott She is at peace now though. No more suffering. xx

Good stuff about career break Oooggs - good for you

morning everyone

oooggs · 17/11/2009 12:59

afternoon everyone

ScarletBandit · 17/11/2009 14:13

I am very tired! I have slept for 1.5 hours this morning when F was in playgroup and it's not enough! This night shift lark is no fun!

Bramshott · 17/11/2009 15:14

Don't know how you do it SB!

Well I have two men blastin water and solvents at the outside of my house to take the paint off it - it's surprisingly easy given that we have been staring at it for 4 years thinking "hmm, don't really like that paint but I bet it will be a bugger to get off"!

ScarletBandit · 17/11/2009 16:41

Bet it will be lovely when it's done Bramshott

I don't really know how I keep going either! I suppose it's the same for anyone who has had a crap night with the dc's and has had no sleep, adrenaline and sheer determination! Oh, and lots of caffeine

Bramshott · 17/11/2009 18:35

It's done now SB - but it's too dark to see anything!

Okay, so Potty Training. Anyone else in the throes at the moment? We started last week and she seems keen, but we are still in the messy stage - usually starts the day okay, but will often have an accident later on when she's tired. What I can't remember is what the ratio between me asking her, and her telling me is - at the moment I seem to spend the whole day saying "do you need a wee?", or just telling her that she needs to go before we leave the house etc. Very rarely does she volunteer the information and ask to go. Is that normal? Does that shift by itself or do I need to back off a bit? It seems so long since N was trained that I can't remember this stuff!

Doobydoo · 18/11/2009 09:32

We are not potty training at present..though should probably think about it.Ds1 was potty trained late after a couple of attempts I backed off and when he was ready he did it and was dry at night too.Hoping it will be the same for M
Had ultrasound the other week and they think I may have Gallstones...eek.The octor has asked for more info.I have had horrid backache on and off since M was 4 months old.Have to see what options I have.Has anyone any experience of them?
Very windy day here. How is everyone doing?

ScarletBandit · 18/11/2009 10:25

Dooby, you have my sympathy if you have gallstones as they really hurt!
I had lots of little gallstones diagnosed about 18 months ago. The stones kept popping out into my bile duct which then sent my liver off too. The pain was horrific and I ended up having my gallbladder taken out just over a year ago.
I know that it sounds awful (and when I look back it was), but I am totally fine now and free of the pain! I am sure some of the ladies here will remember my constant moaning, and I was off work for several months.
I think that you can carry on just fine without surgery if they are not bothering you too much though, so don't think that surgery is the only option, but for me it was the only way.

Doobydoo · 18/11/2009 11:07

I remember SB!
They are really painful...think it is hormonal.
Am worried re poss GA and that I am in middle of return to nurse course then it is imperative I get a job asap.
Will know options etc next week.
Glad it worked for you

StealthPolarBear · 18/11/2009 12:17

NO experience sorry Dooby Hope you can get it sorted
Half hearted potty training here - when he asks I take him (obviously - would be a very bad mother to say "just wee in your nappy") and when I'm getting him ready for bed I ask him to try the potty. Not sure if doing it like this is worse than just not bothering - should I be doing it properly?
Did try him in big boy pants the other day - he pooed, so they went in the bin I have little enough free time as it is without cleaning pants that were probably less than £1!

Bramshott · 18/11/2009 13:58

We did that for a few weeks beforehand SPB (nearly typed PSB there, which is purple sprouting broccoli!), but in the end I thought it was just confusing her - keeping her in a nappy but encouraging her to use the potty where possible. So we decided to bite the bullet, but I am still a bit about whether she's ready.

StealthPolarBear · 18/11/2009 14:35

yes, that's how I feel, just confusing him as there's no emphasis on using the potty all the time. I don't think he';s ready though, and I'm certainly not!!

ScarletBandit · 18/11/2009 16:25

No potty training here yet as F is just not ready. She showed signs of being ready a long time ago, but then just stopped going on the potty for some reason. I am just waiting until she lets me know she is ready. Ds was late too, but when he was ready he was dry virtually straight away with very few accidents.

Dooby, I was really scared of the GA too, but I would do it over again to get rid of the pain I had! Hope you can get things sorted soon

ScarletBandit · 18/11/2009 16:26

That was a severe overuse of the word ready!!

oooggs · 18/11/2009 20:43

I hate potty training and I have to do it twice >>> as being boy & girl they are not ready at the same time.

Dd is weeing on the potty/toilet fine but poos are a bit miss & miss.

Ds2 says 'Erin pants........me nappy!!' so no rush there
