Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
barbareebaa · 24/10/2009 09:48

Ellie Thanks for your message! I think you're right - is deffo confidence thing, not deliberate. I can relate to the snapping and crying - that's how I end up communicating with dh half the time
Thank you for your advice on bf-ing. You know what I ought to cut dairy out - just to see what happens - has been something I have been thinking about but am getting through a huge bar of dairy milk every day and is almost (or maybe actually is) an addiction and am afraid of giving it up But I think I will give it a go - it seems a very sensible thing to do - at least to see if there's a difference.
How terrifying about your fire - saw your fb update! It's my worst nightmare it really is. So glad that you are all ok and you have had a fire check. Dg's sis is a fire safety officer so she's looked over our gaff and said it's fine but I still unplug everything - a bit ocd in that department!!

Happy birthday Mimi Hope you all have a wonderful day Pinky

Hope everyone has a top weekend xx

barbareebaa · 24/10/2009 09:49

Dg? What could that stand for? Meant dh!!

AFingerofFudge · 24/10/2009 10:19

Hi all. Sorry, am finding it hard to keep up these last few days.
Daisy have a great time away, hope you get something of a rest!
LB sorry about the bug, hope you are ok.
twinks sorry about the sore bits on J, we had the same prob with DS1 to the extent that on his 2nd birthday we bought him a wheelybug(they had just come out!) and he was so sore he wouldn't sit on it even though he was desperate to . The only thing that would clear his up was metanium.
barbs hope you're feeling a bit better

Am working a nightshift tonight.........and the clocks go back !! AAArggghh. Am so lucky aren't I???
To top it all off, DH is running a half marathon tomorrow morning, so I'll be looking after the kids, and waiting on the finish line to cheer him on. Well, I will if I have matchsticks in my eyelids.

Hi to everyone else. x

AFingerofFudge · 24/10/2009 10:26

oops, hadn't refreshed my page since last night, so a bit out of date!!!
ellie glad you're all ok. Weirdly enough another friend also had a small fire that same eve, and so both posts appeared on fb around the same time!

Happy Birthday to mimi and all the birthday babies.x

twinklingfairy · 24/10/2009 11:38

Argh, that is the second time that has happened to me. I had a whole post written out

daisy that was a whole heap of info thrown out in a great big burst of energy

Defo looking into silver liners and getting shot of my fleece.
Gonna wash the lot on as hot as I can.
Can't believe I hadn't thought on it sooner
I love the wool wraps. I bought a pattern many moons ago but, when I realised it was tiny needles and tiny wool I ran away in fear!
You can make them out of old jumpers too, I must re look into that.
In the mean time I thought these looked pretty good and not too bad a price.

Nope, no swabs been taken though I asked her to and asked why it had not already been done. She said it was too dry, nothing to swab.

Checking the foreskin, the can't really get near it. I am already pinning DS down so she can look, if she touches it he goes beserk!
ot another appointment for Tuesday hopefully, with it already looking Heaps better, she can get a better look.
Though, when we had DS down at the specialist in December last year, she will surely have checked that his foreskin was ok? That was why we were there, surely

barb DH and I were exactly the same with DD. Express some lots of milk and go away for a day. Gotta be a day, not a couple of hours that he can muddle through.
He needs to see what needs to be done and that he can do it.
And then keep it up, keep leaving babes with him. He will soon learn and his confidence will soon improve.

Easy said and I am not sure I followed my own advice.
I was like ellie and would struggle on hoping he would notice that I was struggling, when he didn't I would snap too.

It is hard but I do think the only way it can improve is for you to hand over as much as pos. Stay as calm as you can giving him his instructions so you (and he) don't see it as nagging.
Eventually he will gurn ' I do know what I am doing you know.' Mine did anyway
Can you ever win??

ellieloooooooooooooween · 24/10/2009 11:39

barbs I hope you dont think I was speaking out of turn I think you have done an amazing job feeding W (I only managed 6 weeks as it was too much on my own with the 2 of them when DH went away) it is a regret of mine that I didnt persevere. I just thought I would mention it as my friend said that cutting dairy out of her diet benefitted her DS and his milk satisfied him for a bit longer IYKWIM.
twinks that is weird hope your friend is ok! I can sympathise with the nightshift thing when I worked shifts I used to always end up on the long one . Are you working tomorrow night too? Hope not then you can have a nice early night .

Hi Ladies

Wow so much chat!
We have been to Butlins down south and we had an amazing time. Becca oved all the little rides, the shows and the soft play. She did not however like her travel cot! She even liked swimming. DD1 was in her element to.

Happy burthday Mimi, and to those I missed.

Twink sorry about your DS's sore bits.

Hana let me know how you go on with the cones, I still leak despite all those physio appointments I hope you and your DH can sort out your issues soon. X

I can't believe Becca is 1 on Thursday. I fee awful as all we have got her is a toy laptop as we have loads off stuff in the loft and what with everything else she will get from others. We will put some money in her bank though.

Barbs its important to talk to your DH about how you are feeling, I know its easier to push him away. With DD1 I did everything and I think the problem was me being a control freak, not that I am implying you are but perhaps leave him to get on with jobs and help out more. X

I started my xmas shopping today, did an order from toys r us mainly for DD1, the sylvanian famiy grand hotel was on offer and the caravan etc I also got my nephew the Vtech baby walker.

Gotta go Becca awake x x

PinkyMinxy · 24/10/2009 17:24

Hello!
Thanks for lovely birthday wishes. Mimi has had a fab day, she loved her presents and we had a great time at the museum with some friends.

Barbs I'm sorry you are feeling low. I hope you don't mind if i kae a suggestion. DH should be able to manage for a day with W- he can have a drink of water and some food- even maybe a morning. It may be easier if you really leave him to it- ie go out or send him out with W. Try to make a regular thing. DH takes the girls to playgroup on a tues when I go to see my therapist and I don't always go to meet them afterwards, he also takes the older two swimming on a sunday. Mimi is exclusively BFed and it is obviously a thing that only I can put her to bed really, and she was wakign so much in the nigth recently it was really exhausting. DH would take her in the morning- get her dressed and give her breakfast whilst I had a sleep. SHe seems to be over it now- is sleeping through and having a big afternoon nap.

I don't know much about allergies, soo I can't really help.

Will catch up later, but Hi all and have a fab trip Daisy.

misdee · 24/10/2009 17:45

barb, cut all dairy out and see if it helps.

i cut dairy out back in may, soph skin, reactions and congestion has almost completly gone.

sophs leg appointment has come through. we have to go to orthopaedics next month.

LadyBuzz · 24/10/2009 19:57

Happy Birthday Mimi sounds like you had a lovely day.

barbs no advice unfortunately but I hope you work through your issues. Keep posting too.

Daisy enjoy your holiday and I agree we really do need another northern meet up soon. Most of the babies weren't even crawling last time!

Twinks your have my sympathies DS1 suffers with similar problems and we seem to have had everything under the sun but it keeps coming back. Nappies aren't evewn the issue with him as he is out of them completely. I can't remember who mentioned it being related to exzema but his might be right as DS1 suffers with it quite badly. Does J have exzema?

We all seem to be healthy again thank goodness, just got the boys off to bed in a vain attempt not to start our day at tomorrow.

I'm going ghost hunting tomorrow night aawwooo! at Muncaster Castle in the north lakes. A ghostly castle tour followed by a garden walk - I can't wait

coolkat glad you all enjoyed your holiday.

Hi to anyone I've missed

Ceebee74 · 24/10/2009 22:09

Evening all - will catch up properly tomorrow when I have more time.

Just wanted to say to barbs that I agree with the others that you do perhaps need to start leaving W with your DH on a regular basis - have confidence in him and he will start to have confidence in himself. When DS1 was a baby, I felt exactly the same way as you did - however, from about 3 months, I started going back to the gym which meant that I had to leave DS1 with DH for at least 90 minutes at a time and trust that he was ok....and he was and it really helped DS1 and DH bond and that DH gained confidence in what he was doing. With Hamster, I didn't think twice about leaving them both with DH from about 6 weeks - and as Ellie said, Hamster will choose DH over me anytime so they have obviously developed a bond too. Go on - have faith, take the jump and go and spoil yourself for a few hours

Pinky glad you all had a lovely day today and Mimi enjoyed her 1st birthday.

Promise to catch up tomorrow.

PinkyMinxy · 24/10/2009 23:47

Thanks Ceebee, Lb. Your ghosty thing sounds spooky. I would be such a wuss!

Twinks just reading things properly it made me chuckle a bit about your GP blaming cloth nappies. I remember HV saying that DS had nappy rash because I wasn't 'using proper nappies' lol.
But other than that it's not funny is it, I hope J gets better soon.

I found wipes were the big issue with mine. I use cloth ones mainly these days but I found a lot of the throw away ones can make botties sore. Personally I think nappy off time whatever nappy you use is the best cure for general nappy area problems.

I don't use liners at all now- mainly through laziness but I really haven't missed them. I flush as normal, dry pail then do a rinse and spin before the wash, and they come up clean as anything. I do find that nothing sticks to the itti bitti nappies (sorry for TMI)- they are microfibre IIRC.

Oblomov · 25/10/2009 08:06

Happy Birthday Mimi - sorry it a bit belated.
Sorry to hear of woes Barbs. Take comfort that I think we are all saying that your dh, as a lovely , good man, is actually quite the norm. Just needs a bit of gentle persuasion. I bet if you really think about it, you can make that happen - women are generally very good at it HTH

twinklingfairy · 25/10/2009 09:15

Wow That cream is working miracales on Js bottom!
Or is it the paper pants?

Now I don't know
I will say the cream and get J back into his newly hot washed rinsed to within an inch of their lives nappies.
Will still leave it a week though before I put him back in.
What do you think real nappy using ladies?

Ah, pinky did I forget to say happy birthday to your mimi
Glad she had a lovely day

What should I use for cloth wipes?
Do you think I can cut up a few muslins into squares with maybe 3 layers and then overlock?
Should they be fleeced backed, I see fleecy ones often?
All Js fleecy liners have been well and truly binned.
I threw them out calling them nasty wee germ spreaders!

I must get on and write lists for Js birthday party next Saturday. I am sure there is heaps I should be doing
IT HAS BECOME A LOT BIGGER THAN i FIRST IN (oops) intended.
It is a messy play combo halloween party.
I have invited about 10 people, most with children both DD and DSs age, so 20 children or so.
Then add all the adults, my family, DH family.
Oops! What have I created??!!

OMGoodness! I am so excited!
I have just recieved my first order for a necklace from someone I don't know and through my website.

I have a christmas fayre thing to attend at the beginning of November too.
I feel a little lot under prepared for it. Yikes!

PinkyMinxy · 25/10/2009 22:52

Yay twinks well done with the sale. It's so exciting when someone you don't know buys things, isn't it. Makes it seem more real somehow.

Wipes I use to minki fleece backed terry wipes mainly but also use ikea flannels, cut up muslin squares, etc.I wouldn't go to too much bother making them, TBH. I put a days worth in one of those lided coloured Ikea boxes and I put a beaker of chamomlie tea with a few drops of almond oil or baby oil over them. the oil makes them go over the skin a bit more smoothly and is nice on the skin. HTH

barbareebaa · 26/10/2009 21:34

hi there,
thanks for all your advice! have told dh what you think and he agrees - he does find it a bit difficult when i'm around. he has said that he will take w out one morning so i can stay in bed for a bit (first lie in in nearly a year!!) and around christmas time he is going to have him for a long afternoon/ teatime so i can have a drop of christmas cheer with my friends (and a bite to eat of course )
am now dairy free (gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah) but inspired by misdee and improvement in sophie's skin, have really got to give it a go (but i do miss chocolate so and it's not been 24hrs yet even)
Will had the most horrendous day yesterday - figured he was teething - he just did random SCREAMS - very in asda - had first taste of judgy types ('ooh he's probably starving, poor thing' ) and lots of annoyed looks so i addressed our queue and the ones either side and said 'he's teething' really loud. anyway today i have found right and left top molars broken through, the bitey vampirey teeth fangs what are they called - canines? well one through, one coming and most suprising was a whole tooth between his front 4 and his back molar completely through- how did i miss that??
so he was completely entitled to his screeches but glad it's stopped today!
right enough about me!!
twink congrats on your internet sale!! glad J's bot is getting better Good luck in party organisation! I want to do a party for W but I am afraid of the numbers (don't want to leave anyone out) so I'm thinking maybe I won't but i want to do something. hmmm.
lb glad you are all better! how was the ghost hunt? did you see anything? (ghostly!)
glad you had a good hol coolkat pinky glad mimi had a lovely birthday!

who's next for a birthday? must go check!
x

chocolategal · 26/10/2009 22:25

Bookmarking been away for weekend.
Happy belated birthdays

LadyBuzz · 27/10/2009 09:07

Choc hope you enjoyed your weekend away.

twink well done you on the necklace order. How is J's rash today?

Didn't see any ghosts on the tour but in the last room they turned all the lights out to highlight how dark the castle is. Someone jumped out when they turned them back on - I screamed at the top of my voice and nearly floored 3 children in my haste to escape [hbush] twas fab though.
I'm off on another one this afternoon at Carlisle Castle, it is daytime though so prob not quite as scary!

barbs J was doing the random screamy thing on Sunday and it was his teeth too - only his 4th though not as impressive as W!

Must get on with my cleaning, I'm having a thorough clean before I go back to work next week - boooo

Ceebee74 · 28/10/2009 11:10

Where is everyone??

Twinks well done on the order - I can imagine that it must be a great feeling to get an order from a 'stranger'

Buzz how was the Castle walk yesterday - they sound like they would be great fun.

Am back to work tomorrow (finally!) - have delayed and procrastinated as long as I possibly could but have admitted defeat and realised I need to save what holiday I have left for the rest of the year!

Big news here....Hamster actually got himself up to standing on the sofa He has only done it once (on Monday) and not since....but it is a step in the right direction. Still don't think he will be up to using the walker by his birthday though! And still no teeth......

twinklingfairy · 28/10/2009 11:31

I know ceebee I was thinking the same thing, Where is everybody??

Cheers aboutthe order. I am frightened now, what if she doesn't like me, what if she doesn't like the piece...bla bla

Js bottom is so much better, you would not believe.
So much so that I keep forgetting to give him his antibiotics cos there just seems to be nothing wrng. But you know hw it is, you gotta see it to the end or it won't have done its job.
Nurses out there? The docs tell me to give it to him 4 times day, but I have such a god awful memory, he norm just gets it 3
Will it matter too much and will it matter that it takes me so long to complete the course or can I stop giving it sooner?

ceebee I feel for you, going back to work. I have not worked since DD was born (3years) the thought is really frightening now.
I feel a bit dim witted now. Fear that I always was really.
I am meant to be chairperson for our toddlers but I don't really do anything. My secretary and treasurer are much more pro active and I have always been very good at delegating. So I delegate, they are happy to do it and I feel like I can't even achieve little tasks cos my memory is that of a fishes!
I was meant to make up wee notes for Tuesday, the sceretary said she would, but I said No no, I can surely manage that!
Tuesday morn first thing I am on to the treasurer cos I had forgotten and then couldn't find the cables for my printer
Sigh, sometimes you just feel like such a dummy doncha

I am proud of my delegating skills though. I even did it with worrying when I was pregnant.
I delegated my worrying to my mum and DH
I do nothing cabely with my telly cos my sister likes to feel important and to tease me for being rubbish. I let her lash at it. If she thinks she can do it better, go right ahead.
Same with my computer, my bro is a wizz so I hand it over. He is also a fantastic letter writer so I just dictate my needs and get given a fabulous letter
If people are better at these things and enjoy doing them, who am I to deny them the pleasure

alking of which I need a complainy letter.
Our local pool have just increased their age restricions. It used to be one adult to two 3yr olds now they have to be 4.
So my friend and I both have 2 children but can only take one swiming unless we have 2 extra adults!
We thoght we were getting there when it was 3 cos then her DH could come with our 3 yrs olds and we could each take a baby.
But they just raised the bar
AIBU to be cross about that?
Near my PIL I can take them both on my tod! FGoodnessS.

Oops, looks like I am making up for the lack of posts.
Come on everyone, post some chat and stop twinkling from mind rambling!

LadyBuzz · 28/10/2009 13:58

I like your style Twinks if someone else enjoys it then sit back and put your feet up

ceebee the walk yesterday wasn't as good but I think it was because it was the day time and the darkness made it more spooky on Sunday! I love all that stuff though.

Well my house is sparkling clean now, so I just need to tidy and do a quick wipe round before tues as I seem to have now agreed to have a tea party for J! I'm not totally sure when this happened. Its my first full day back at work and I have 15 adults and 5 kids coming Must be mad!
