Oh go on then.

I'm rubbish at titles though but I bow down to Oli's cakes and supermum.

Glad your uncle has gotten in touch eli. I hope he's not in too much pain.

I will be doing a vanishing act myself for a few days. Heading out for a 5 day course. I'm looking forward to learning new therapy techniques and hobnobbing with other docs. I will miss dh and the boys terribly though. They are coming in on Saturday to spend the night (it's only 3 hours away) so that helps a little.

Still and a bit that ds1's website is still down. Have paid more than I feel that I should have to get it back up and running Still, they assured me that it could be retrieved and so I guess I just have to be patient.

jabberwocky · 17/02/2010 19:36

I used the word "still" at least 3 times there. Goodness, I need to get a thesaurus! or at least proof before I post!

accessorizequeen · 18/02/2010 10:12

Erm, homework on half term? Just remembered ds1 has some, best get that sorted! I am bad mother at homework and reading, still he managed to get reader of the week last week so mustn't be doing too badly on his own!
jabber, ds1's mello is brilliant, I bet if I show my ds he'd want to do one too (not sure if he knows that I run a website tbh)!
indith, hope sleep/poo/behaviour better? how is walking girl? I bought dd 2nd pair of shoes on the weekend, patent mary janes . I lurve buying girly stuff for my dd!
eli, glad uncle better, I know what you mean about special place in your heart, my great uncle like that but unfortunately died in oz a couple of years ago, wish I had got to say goodbye.
must go get into town on bus (grr) for haircut, I am getting too used to these days off, it's doing wonders for my depression!

accessorizequeen · 18/02/2010 10:25

Just added some photos on Facebook in case anyone's interested!

castlesintheair · 18/02/2010 10:35

DS has project to do each term on top of homework (loads in KS2) and half-term is only chance we get to do it. We are having a pretty boring time consequently

EVye · 18/02/2010 14:03

Starting to worry. DDs neck glands are still big enough to see without trying to find them. Saw a friend today who is a dr and she said that when the GP checks for bloods, did I know what they'd be checking for? I said I had an idea and she mentioned the Big C, and said it was good that the doc had said they would go straight to blood tests.

Feel sick.

Was meant to wait a week until after the ABs had finished (sunday) but have now booked appt for tomorrow. My friend isnt the type to make off the cuff medical comments, so I'm feeling quite anxious.

Indith · 18/02/2010 15:43

Oh EV I'm sorry you are so worried, I hope you get some answers very soon.

AQ glad the shoulder getting better and you are having the chance to spend time with different sets of dcs! Shoes for dd sounbd great, I am so looking forward ot buying girl shoes Well, apart form the price tag!

Nobody is getting old. I won't allow it.

dd's walking is getting there slowly. She has days when she doesn't at all and days when she just walks between things without a second thought.

I am getting very fed up of ds and his refusal to potty train. I know I shouldn't get annoyed and it will come when he is ready but grrr. He has the control, he know what he is doing but he just doesn't want to. He won't tell me when he has been so I frequently end up scraping absolutely foul huge poos off his bum that he has been sitting in for half an hour as he has been playing in his room or something. The child just doesn't care and if I leave him naked he just doesn't go at all and I have to give him a nappy when he starts dancing around clutching himself because he will merrily sit on the loo but won't actually go unless ina nappy!

I won't talk about dd and sleep. I am not allowed to get my hopes us until she is doing something consistantly.

EV, Sorry to hear about your DD. I remember getting very similar things as a kid quite frequently and it was nowt. Things can often seem bigger and scarier on a kid. Glad you are getting it checked though, if only to put your mind at rest.

Has anyone watched HSM? I can't believe what I have to 'endure' as a devoted loving mother ...

Elibean · 18/02/2010 19:33

Poor Castles. Homework and HSM: the things we endure . HSM, for some reason, hit Reception big-time last term...they played the blinking songs from it during their role play time (cue 3 girls at a time on their pretend stage, singing into pretend microphones). Thankfully, it means dd1 is now bored of it and currently into Mickey Mouse and Heidi.

EV, I've posted on your Ch. Health thread...I too was a 'big glands illnesses' child, but know that whats needed now is proper medical check-up and reassurance. Its sensible, and the only thing that will help the worrying.

Thanks all re uncle...he is sounding remarkably practical and ok, considering. I've talked to dh, and we agreed within seconds we'd be happy to help him move to our area if he wanted to - doubt he will, but he's one of the few relatives I'd like that close! AQ, I'm sorry re your Gt Uncle..yes, sounds similar

Sympathies re poos, sleep, etc - dd2 still a bit challenging on the latter, though no problem on the former, though her current drama is wanting to change clothes 200 times per day. Refusal met with huge shrieks of despair.

Elibean · 18/02/2010 19:36

Re-read: EV, sorry, that sounds far more crisp than I feel - was trying to be succinct because I didn't want to duplicate other post. Your dd has been in my thoughts (hence went looking on other thread) and I can imagine only too well that sick feeling. Big hugs on this thread too.

EVye · 18/02/2010 20:03

Thanks guys. I know, I know. I'm sure all will be fine.

We have seen HSM many many times. DD1 got into it during Reception last year. She is 'through' most of it but still reverts fairly frequently. Even does cheerleading after school now - doing her first rosette soon

accessorizequeen · 18/02/2010 22:58

Please let us know what happens at dr, ev, hopefully all fine fine fine for dd impossible not to worry of course
Erm, I quite like HSM, guess it must just be me but then I don't have to watch it every day or anything because dd wants to (now Waybaloo is another thing entirely ergggghhhhhhhh).
indith, ergggh too re: potty training. How long have you been going? Will he just go back to nappies and try another time? Does sound as though he isn't ready from what you're saying.
Just bought buggy number 8, I'm turning into a pram hun!

Indith · 19/02/2010 08:42

Argh! Tummy Bug! Was mopping up V&D from dd last night. She still smells of sick poor girl even after a bath! Ds is acting up and doing the most smelly trumps so expect he is close behind dd.

AQ re potty training our last attempt was actually between Christmas and New Year and as soon as he started witholding we went back to nappies and apart from a couple of times that he has asked for pants he has been in nappies. HJe would happily wear the same nappy all day no matter what he has done in it

I watched HSM once while bouncing on a birth abll and twiddling my nipples a little over 3 years ago . It was grim. I am so grateful to not have an older girl! Sure there will be something equally dire when dd gets older though.

castlesintheair · 19/02/2010 08:57

Indith, sorry about bug(s). Does DS know when he's done a poo?

EVye · 19/02/2010 12:54

Been to GP. She thought DDs glands were smaller and so was happy. She must have realised she worried me last week so she got another GP to come in and check too

I am to keep an eye out and go back in 1 month if they are still enlarged.

Elibean · 19/02/2010 13:14

EV thats good! Not over entirely, obviously, but the right direction. And scary glands would surely not get smaller at all, I would think. Also good that she pulled in a second opinion, more reassuring!

Indith, my friend's ds was very similar re potty training....she just had to back off for a few more months, till he was ready. Then it all went quite smoothly: there is hope! As for HSM....don't worry, your dd will still access HSM (or HSM-7), if my dd1 is watching Mary Poppins and Sound of Music, HSM will surely last that long

Indith · 19/02/2010 15:34

Good news EV, hope they continue to go down and you can fully relax

Castles he knows, he is just stubborn! ELi we have backed off, not put any pressure on him etc, I just wish it were done that's all, sick of scraping poo off his bum when he's been sitting in it for half an hour!

Dd not been sick since this morning so hopefully a 24 hour job. Bit grumpy though.

Jabber is the picture of the website a truthfull representation of Mello? If so I'm booking my flight . Very cute website

TheDailyWail · 19/02/2010 19:49

Yes, good news EV.

Indith, I know the feeling re. potty training. DD2 refuses to be without a nappy and knows when she needs to go.

We had a busy week. Trip to A&E for both my mum (4th serious nose bleed in as many days) and my Aunt (fell and fractured elbow) and DHs nan was given only a few days to live(pneumonia).
Mums nose has been cauterised, Aunt has a sling and Nans anti-bs seem to be working and she seems slightly improved. What a week it's been for everyone.

{recovery vibes all round}

castlesintheair · 19/02/2010 19:59

They can be stubborn little bu*ers at 3 which is why it can be so hard to p-t at that age if you ask me. I remember a sage ole nanny telling me you had to p-t between 13-18 months or you had missed the boat!!! Indith, I'd wait a month or so and try again. Good luck - it's the biggest pita (no pun intended) about parenting (SN aside). I'd pay someone to do it if I had my time again.

DW, sorry to hear about all your A&E trips. Pleased to hear everyone on the mend. Ditto your DD EV. Hope you are feeling better too.

My MIL was found on the driveway on Friday. Gave everyone quite a scare. Went to see her on Monday and she had 2 black eyes. Not very nice. A reminder that the DCs won't have their grandparents forever.

TheDailyWail · 19/02/2010 20:07

Blimey Castles - ther's certainly somehting in the air.

Hope she's better soon.

Elibean · 20/02/2010 09:29

get well soon, DM and Castles' relatives. Yes, what a week for all those around us (and therefore us).

Castles, at the idea of having PTd the dds before they could walk!

I have caught dd2's stinker cold, and worse, woke up with conjunctivitis (on the day I'm hosting my brand new writing group: maybe I should put them all in a different room to me?!), or the beginnings of it. Off to chemist for First Defence handspray and eye drops.

EV, hope dd continues to improve over the weekend - I think we all need some sunshine to get over viruses and assorted bugs

Indith · 20/02/2010 13:03

Goodness, hope all the relatives are getting better!

Oh well if I have to potty train by 18 months I had better get cracking on dd

I am pretty much just going to leave ds until he wants to now I suppose. Just fed up! Have had tears today over changing his nappy after doing a poo. I promise I don't stress at him though! He gets told it is good to poo but when he does we need to go change him.

OP posts:
Elibean · 20/02/2010 18:57

Ah Indith, it sounds like hard work...I do remember how they get to the huge scrapey poo stage, but I had enough of an age gap not to have to be dealing with two loads of pooey nappies at once, or hardly. Does ds have any big cousins/friends out of nappies he loves and admires? That used to help with dd1 and seemingly unreachable goals (eg swapping bottles for sippy cups).

You are probably right though, it may well be a case of shrugging and pretending not to be bothered for a bit longer till he decides he's ready. I sometimes think life with a 3 year old is one long stifle-my-frustration-and-sound-calm-whilst-inwardly-cursing-while-3yr-old-does-her-thing. Its just with dd, its centred around clothes a lot, rather than poos

EVye · 20/02/2010 21:00

Hi All

DD2 seems much improved. I'm not well, havent been for a week now. Sore throat > lost voice > chesty > asthma > conjunctivitis....sigh.

Wrt nappy training, I would recommend leaving it a bit longer. we pushed dd1 a bit ealy and it took longer in the long run. DD2 was left until she was ready and it was much quicker.

Elibean · 21/02/2010 09:25

V glad re dd, EV...but poor you. Must be a weird conjuncitivitis-inclined virus going round: two families I know of had it recently, and I woke up with it yesterday - the dds just have colds/croaky voices, I have a red and weepy eye to go with it, dh has a cold and asthma: you, poor love, have the lot! Get well soon.
