happy birthday Holly and Natty, sorry I missed them. Hope you got your christmas shop sorted Natty.

have my usual Bank Holiday misery. DH has already been to work once (30 breakfasts that turned into 46) and has to go back to do 40+ meals with minimum stock. Am annoyed as he was meant to be off today, but am even more annoyed as he had just gone out to the car to set off 10min ago and he got a text to say there was no need to go back until 4pm. he is now asleep in the chair

Am already failing with my xmas resolution to do half an hours decluttering every day so that it isn't such a major operation to tidy for people coming round. Just want to sleep - so far DH and I have watched 2 of the midsomer murders DVDs my mum and dad gave us, and I have fallen asleep in both of them. Have just supervised DS1 putting his present pile away though, so that's a bit less. Ham pasta for tea I think, then counting the hours til bedtime. Am tempted to send DS1 out on the footpath round to my mums sprinkling salt on the ice!

gloRiaInExcelsisDeo · 28/12/2009 14:51

glad your MIL has gone Norty, and sorry for your xmas lunch Jammy. I cooked for us yesterday and it wasn't anything like as good as my mums (the best) or my sisters. I cannot make yorkshire puddings. I think DS1 is cooking on NYE as DH expects to be at work til 3am

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 28/12/2009 18:51

Sorry about DH's long and anti-social work hours etc Ria. I'm sure your dinner was just as good as your Mum's too! We've just had our dinner of roast chicken, potatos and parsnips, chestnut stuffing (DH had to go to 3 supermarkets to find me some chestnuts this afternoon), sprouts, carrots, bread sauce, cranberry sauce and gravy. All full up now and catching up on TV we recorded while away .

Norty, glad you survived it all. Do you get a year off next year?

Nursery tomorrow for Jamlet, shopping and lunch out for us

gloRiaInExcelsisDeo · 28/12/2009 23:16

jammy. this holiday has been far too child-intensive for my liking! your meal sounds lovely.

DH home around 10 (i was in the bath with a Katie Fforde and the last half glass of Dsis's pink fizz) the twunt Lord from the big house who caused todays problems wants to see him,now having wine and more Midsomer Murders. Hoping for a day out tomorrow if the weather on our side.

Ohforfoxsake · 29/12/2009 09:57

Hello lovelies, hope you all had a lovely Christmas

On a bit of a post-Christmas downer (well, that started about 5pm on Christmas day!) Exhaustion has set in I think, but the Cherry Liquers are helping

Ooh Jammy, I'm ready for another Christmas dinner after reading that. Yum!

Can I have the prize for the crappiest christmas presents for my children from grandparents? Halloween costumes. Thanks Mum

WewishyouaNORTYxmas · 29/12/2009 10:34

Blimey Foxy . Although my MIL bought DS a "Name a star" gift.....at 11 months old, he really appreciated it

At work today, and tbh, I'm enjoying the peace and quiet! DH is at home also enjoying P&Q as DCs are at nursery.....I don't pay £80 a day to keep them at home! And they do have a fun time.

I'm going sale shopping tomorrow with my mum.....and DCs are going to nursery.....I'm going to have to carry my shopping as will not have a buggy .

I do get a year off MIL Jammy....although my BIL is threatening to go away next Xmas.....even if he does, it still won't be our turn!

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 29/12/2009 15:25

indeed at Halloween costumes!

Been out shooping and got ourselves a guitar hero game for the wii as part of our Christmas present to ourselves . And some more cute outfits for Jamlet. And I have started next year's Christmas shopping already . A couple of little bits from Accesorise for her stocking and a Postman Pat annual and The Night Before Christmas all at half price have been put away in the wardrobe. Just hope I remember they are there in 11 months time!

Sputnik · 29/12/2009 15:39

Bizarre presents!
All good stuff here, but we haven't actually done xmas with the inlaws yet .

My sister got me a shopping trolley (among other things) which might seem a bit weird but I had sort of mentioned wanting one as, after pushing buggies all this time, I wasn't looking forward to someday having to carry my own shopping. Maybe you should consider it Norty. Mine is extremely funky

Foxy you asked me ages ago how the diet went... well it did work with the candida and I felt better for it but not actually for losing weight. I think I took the eating as much as you like part too far tbh, and when I added up the amount of fat I was eating it was pretty astronomical. I might give it another go though, and try sticking to the 5 day part which would mean staying away from cheese. And unfortunately I have lapsed a bit WRT sugar over xmas.....

Ohforfoxsake · 29/12/2009 16:06

I'm currently bouncing off the walls due to a large helping of Christmas pud with Baileys extra thick double cream.

Will be revisiting the diet!

Ohforfoxsake · 29/12/2009 20:31

I bumped into Bumper on another thread. Does she still drop in here? Has she conceived yet?

Sputnik · 29/12/2009 21:33

Not seen her for ages.

gloRiaInExcelsisDeo · 29/12/2009 22:47

just been chatting to bumper on my shiny new non-denominational weight loss support thread! Not PG yet. I suggested she drop by.

Certainly different as presents go Foxy. I bought baggins a teddy with a name a star for his christening gift, and a cuddly cow with a star certificate for SDD for her 21st (from the boys) DH's DCs have yet to text/FB DH to say happy christmas, let alone thank you for our presents (a high ropes course day for SDS, and a voucher for a salon in York for SDD). Hey ho. Next year they wil both be over 21, so it'll be Boots 3 for 2's all round, or socks...

Been to Whitby today. It was fecking cold. Had picnic and chips in the bandstand, which did not provide protection from the sleet shower. It was nice and "fresh"!!! Need to buy more Buffs, it seems one each is not enough! Was very tempted to start xmas shopping for net year, there was a book I wanted to buy for Dsis and in anticipation of nexts years secret santa! I did buy crackers in Tesco (even though I didn't use the ones I bought for Boxing Day), and I bought DS1 a Stiggy Bank from Tesco, but I may give him that after DS2s birthday party as a thank you for helping and doing magic tricks.

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 30/12/2009 21:27

Oh say hi to Bumper if you see her again!

Big shopping today New freezer AND a sofabed . Hopefully FIL will stop moaning about our futon matress on the floor next time they visit!

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2009 21:37

We got a unicorn from my B and SIL for DD with a name a star attached. the star naming is a load of old cobblers apparently (around 10000 stars visible from earth, but to date millions of "name a star" gifts sold!), but Dd loves the unicorn. It is white and glittery with pink bows on, and she has called "him" Mick and he is her now constant companion!

I have that post Christmas downer as well foxy. Dh is on holiday until Monday and it has felt like the longest bank holiday weekend in the world....can't even go out to the pub and get smashed like I used to. and I am avoiding the sales as I don't want to admit that I need a bigger size in clothes

ria can you link your weight loss thread....I need help!

sounds like a lovely meal jammy! I'm doing dinner a deux tomorrow for DH and I after the monsters are in bed; smoked salmon mousse followed by rack of lamb and then pavlova. NY resolution is to spend more "quality" time together...thinks that might be the first to fail thouhg!

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2009 22:00

interesting on the christmas pressies from the ILs foxy!!! My ILs, though a bit crap on the family side of things in general, do dote on all their grandchildren, so no complaints on pressies here (oh and they gave us the money so we could buy them, then took them and wrapped them up )

Our best pressie has been a fmaily planner calendar that has space for SIX people! All the ones I had seen only have four!

Lol at guitar hereo jammy, can just wee you and Mr J rocking it big stylee

Whitby sounds bracing Ria!

I went to Owlcotes centre today and very nearly froze just walking across the car park. I was returning things bought for Christmas from the Scottish lot, inlcuding an "I love football as much as my daddy" t-shirt for bumble (DH fecking hates football and my family know this; what were they thinking about!!!) and a dress for DD from my SIL that had had the inside ripped out of the security tag and was too small anyway. DH thinks that perhpas if you are shoplifting you may not have time to check the sizing!!!

Soooo need to do some sort of diet. I have over three stone to lose.

gloRiaInExcelsisDeo · 30/12/2009 22:00

here dais. it has come about because of "passwordgate" on the SW thread, but all welcome. what I need is to find a diet I can stick with.

has your DH got your new freezer full of waitrose bargains yet jammy?

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2009 22:02

ah, littleoldme (RL bestyfriend) has told me a little of the goings on re passwords!

gloRiaInExcelsisDeo · 30/12/2009 22:06

I raise you at least another 3 stone daisy

MIL gave us the cash too (bless her), but I had to choose and wrap.

Loved Mr Jammy's FB comment about his R&R lifestyle the other day

gloRiaInExcelsisDeo · 30/12/2009 22:18

Mnet is a small word. fair enough if we (well not me as I'm not a paid-up member) were doing wrong, but there was something rotten in the state of the SW thread for a while there, and my mate has had a post deleted without quite knowing why, so there are suspicions of Big Brother, and it's a bit uncomfortable to say the least. Dieting is shite enough, we need an uncensored giggle! Also made some good friends on that thread (not at good as you lot of course ) and hope to be able to keep the chat without being a disciple!
Did you manage to change the dress then daisy?

AIBU to drop DHs nieces and nephews next year giftwise as we didn't even get a card last year, let alone this? (2 of his brothers families, don't acknowledge the other one as he hates me) I felt it would be petty this year (also one of BIL had just split from his partner last xmas, so he was getting special dispensation!),even if I only do crappy (in their eyes, not mine!) five quid token gifts (that get left in the spare room at MILS)

nowbringussomeJammypudding · 30/12/2009 22:40

I am "watching" your thread Ria. I too need to get some weight shifting, but can't take it too seriously just right now

New freezer not coming for another 2-3 weeks. Once it's plugged in and cooled down all the contents of current freezer will be transferred though, so will probably be full from the off. And no, sounds reasonable to drop those gifts.

Daisy, I'm doing a curry-based feast tomorrow night after Jamlet's in bed. Popadoms with mango chutney, lime pickle and home made tomato chutney, onion salad and raita; red beef curry, cardamom and black pepper chicken, rice and peshwari naan. All served with lassi and lager of course. And polished off (if space allows) with xmas chocs best before 01/01/10. Then we will watch (repeat viewing of) Xmas Day's Doctor Who ready for the NYDay follow up

gloRiaInExcelsisDeo · 30/12/2009 22:57

I was going to ask about plans for tomorrow. DH and I are spending out last night of this year together, with John Nettles! tonight.

I am planning either fresh pizza from M'sons with the kids, or a "finest" ready meal by myself later. A nice hot bubbly bath with luxurious xmas bubbles and trashy chick lit, and maybe some pink fizz - but not sure about that yet. No telly though, it looks rubbish. I think DH is going to do the sensible thing and take a room at work, and come home after breakfast on NYD. AM a bit of jammy and daisy (though I don't eat lamb)

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2009 23:06
TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2009 23:12

I can undertand your not eating lamb Ria, growing up on/around farms! I was a lamb refuser for about 10 years after spending two weeks on a farm for my holiday when I was 16 and watching some lambs being dipped that the owner had hand reared (and were allowed in the house where the dogs weren't) and listening to her waxing lyrical about how they would fill the freezer ...then I had to eat some at a dinner party when I was 26 and realised that it tasted too darn good too ignore

Shame about DH working; it must be hard missing out on all the big celebrations . Re your NYE though; personally, I would have a bit of pizza with the boys at teatime...and then have the nice ready meal and some nice wine to myself after they are in bed

Ohforfoxsake · 31/12/2009 10:02

Just stopping in before I head to the frozen North to wish you all a very happy New Year. I hope 2009 was kind to you, and 2010 will be all you could wish it to be xx

Ria - Daisy's idea is my ideal NYE! Won't pretend I'm not of you!

WewishyouaNORTYxmas · 31/12/2009 12:50

Happy New Year to you all.

We are doing nothing tonight....friends round for the afternoon and a buffet....so will probably eat the left overs tonight.

Got to go and drag the DCs out of bed....got up at 8am, back at 10.30am and still asleep [envy

I think the star thing is a nice idea that will be appreciated in years to come perhaps but think E would have preferred some plastic noisy tat!
