I've been doing this in bits...and wrote this earlier forgot to post it. Only just found it while clearing up my "desktop" for work.

Ineed how's the crying now? Has it calmed down? (or been replaced by teething crying?)
strawberrysam baby yoga, I forgot about this...I must find a class near me
That and swimming classes, 2 of my an friends are doing it and they're loving it.
You can take a mini pill that is not cerazette, they usually have only a 3 hour window though (and other side effects probably.)
bunny i've not lost any more weight either but I've not been really good on the food front on holiday so without any exercise it was bound to happen really.
I always start off nice and healthy at breakfast (fruit, cereal) but fail at lunchtime or dinner. Consistency is the key.
skillbo we must have the same doctor ;) how many weeks is Jazzy now? C. is using gro-bags (though we did swaddle her the other day as it was soooo cold!).

maybe more later...

bigcar · 17/10/2009 17:25

typical isn't it, no dirty nappies for over a week, then 3 poo explosions in 1 day

Hello all!

Oh strawberry, major (((hug))) going your way. Please don't feel bad, there's nothing we can actually do when our LOs are feeling this way (besides putting some calgel or similar on and praying for it to relieve them a tiny bit) Really hope she feels better soon. Did the HV give you any advice or practical tips to give her some relief? xxx

Bigcar, yeah, I second that, just when I was saying "oh, just 3 nappies a day, that's brilliant! " she started pooping 3 times a day again Oh well... No leg pain thank GOD hope Edward slept better.

June, ignore ignore ignore... I hear the same comments and the strange thing is that if you say something they look at you as if saying 'well, sweetie, it's your first, don't worry, you'll learn' I absolutely know there are LOADS we don't know but give some credit to maternal instict when a mum (albeit new) says her LO is not feeling well. (((hug)))

Ineed, glad to hear Emily is thriving and that she's sleeping better I'm dying to know how DH did with his night alone with DD

Ermin, hi!

Skillbo, your doc is bonkers!

Mrsmc, good luck with the christening tonight and the party tomorrow.

Right, we went swimming today with mila and DH and my translator friend + hubby and LO. The first 5 min were ok, but she was a bit serious , after that came some serious pouting and then some sobs, poor little thing. I think it was a bit much for the LO, there were looooads of toddlers and kids and they were quite loud, which is completely OK and normal so I guess she just needs to get used to the pool (and kids being loud next to her LOL). We'll try again soon.

I got my anniversary present!! It finally arrived It's my engagement ring! No, I'm not joking, it's a long story Short version, when DH proposed he gave me a ring that he picked with his mum and sister (he's not good at choosing gifts and, bless him, it was awwwwwful. I mean, the design, it was like heart-shaped, oh dear. So he always said he'd give me a nice one and he did!! I got the little blue box and my jaw dropped I love it!

On the flat hunting side, we saw 6 these last 3 days and fell in love with one at a converted mill. Sooo nice, bigger than this one, better area, better building, I wish I could move now We'll see what happens. Cross your fingers for us!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Lots of waves!!!

Naat · 17/10/2009 22:02

Loving the halloween smileys!!

bigcar · 18/10/2009 14:58

afternoon all

strawberry, if she's waking up in pain give her some calpol, we've done this a handful of times with Edward at night when he's really unsettled. Wouldn't bother with teething gel at night but it might help during the day as will something she can chew on, Edward particularly likes my fingers for this

naat, very of your pressie, how lovely was that! Have everything crossed that you'll get that flat, also have everything crossed for a better set of neighbours this time!

june, I've also had the too young to teethe comments, so frustrating, especially when he definitely has 2 teeth through [sigh] Having 5 dcs the only bit of parenting that I have totally mastered is the smile and walk away, smile and walk away

Strawberry - you poor blossom, that endless waking must be leaving you v frazzled. Thank God your DH is helping you out so you can get a couple of hours here and there. Hope things improve for you, and I agree w Bigcar's suggestion re the Calpol. How about you play some white noise in the background, too? We have iPhones and DH uses the white noise app when Delie won't settle (ie tonight - she v angry right now... and I can hear the white noise going. She has just gone quiet). I think its prob best for if they won't go to sleep, rather than keeping them asleep, but maybe it will help. Before the iPhones we had the hairdryer going.

Naat - you must be swooning! How wonderful of your DH to buy you such a beautiful present. I couldn't help but laugh at the description of the first engagement ring. That happened to a girlfriend of mine, and she said yes to the marriage and no to the ring!

Skillbo · 18/10/2009 22:34

Evening all - hope we've all had fabulous weekends

Had a very nice one myself - my DP was an absolute gem yesterday and basically sorted out Jazzy all day apart from feeding so I could catch up on sleep. Because of the whole swaddling dilemma, we had Jazzy in a gro-bag and she hates it. She has been unsettled for the last couple of nights and woke really early. I was a zombie so he just got up and took her, bringing her back for food and to put her back to bed. Finally dragged my bum out of bed at 130 - bliss!!!

We have decided to continue with the swaddling after all that. She is definitely loads happier and sleeping much better. The nights have also got a lot colder and so we're not as worried as we were about overheating!

Saw my bro today and had a lovely Ikea visit. I splashed out and bought a wicker rocking chair this rocks! for the back room. Planning on moving Jazzy in a few weeks but am expecting to probably have to continue feeding her for a bit. Therefore, wanted a comfy chair which I can use rather than walk backwards and forwards. Its great - tried it out when we got back and its dead comfy.. ok, enough chair love!

Bigcar - yup, GP officially a twat. I bet if he had to bleed out of his penis for 6 months, he's find a different method pretty damn quick!!

Ineed - how'd your DH cope with the expressed milk? My DP is going to have to get cracking with this soon so am going to hire a machine from the hospital this week and have a play! Not looking forward to it but gonna give it a whirl!

June - re the too young for teething thing. I got this as I think Jazzy started around 9 weeks and it is so annoying. As Bigcar says, just nod a lot, I know I do. It has got horribly hard right now though although apparently the 1st and last teeth are the worst - those of you whose lo's have got some, does this sound right? Oh, I also start the day really healthy, cereal and a yoghurt, but then halfway through the day it all goes wrong and I hit the chocolate and crisps!!

Strawb - you are not useless, you're just coping with sleep deprivation and you are not alone. I think it sounds like we're all suffering which makes me think this is just a bit of a phase they're all going through and it will pass soon (fingers seriously crossed!). I do have to second Bigcar re calpol - Jazzy has woken a few times not long after going down and this has really eased her. You can also try Kiddy Neurofen as this also contains an anti-inflammatory which is great for sore gums! The gel just doesn't really cut it at night for some reason - maybe they just can't be distracted from the pain, poor little things!!

Naat - I hope you get the flat, it sounds fab.. converted barn - oooh, high ceilings and lovely gardens!

Wasn't Strictly fun this week? I was pleased to finally see someone I'm not a fan of leave as have quite liked those that have gone previously. The dresses also took a slight turn for the better with the highlights for me being Jades and Lailas - absolutely loving the tassled jumpsuit!

I bought a workout DVD and it's a strictly one with Flavia and Kelly Brook. Haven't tried it yet but looking forward to shaking some booty and dropping all those extra pounds!!

bigcar · 19/10/2009 10:30

morning all

skillbo, sounds like you had a lovely weekend! I enjoyed strictly, was glad to see Jo C go, dh wasn't I've not been a big fan of the dresses at all this year, they seem to have gone more for shine than sparkle, last series it was all very elegant so I'm not really sure what has happened there! The dress Jade had the other week was horrendous. I was quite surprised Zoe was in the last two, thought others were much more deserving of that place, some of them stuffed up badly. The highlight for me was definitely the break when Spandau Ballet were on, felt like a teenager again for a couple of minutes

I think with teething pain it can vary, all my other los teethed MUCH later, I think the earliest tooth we've had before is about 7 months. Apart from a bit of nappy rash and red cheeks they've all been ok, dd3 had a bit of trouble with her back teeth but not that much. Dd3 used to bite when bf, so I was pretty glad she got her teeth quite late!

we've had a few better nights with Edward, he's been much happier thankfully and fairly much back to normal, although I'm sure this will all change again soon.

Hey all

Sorry to hear so many babies are having teething trouble. No sign from Arthur yet, but DD and DS1 both got their first teeth between 4th and 5th months, so I'm kind of expecting it. DD's all came through without a single murmur from her, whereas DS1 screamed and chewed and writhed as each tooth appeared, so I'm thinking it's the first sign of gender difference eg. Man Flu Sydrome .

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 19/10/2009 11:18

Morning all....

Had a pretty crap weekend as the boiler broke and I lost half a tooth and swallowed it.... aaagh! Luckily we have an immersion heater and the washing machine and dishwasher draw from the cold water, so it's just the central heating. DH's uncle's coming over to look at it tomorrow (he's a plumber) so hopefully he'll give us a diagnosis. Unfortunately, it's blardy ancient so I'm really hoping that he tells us we'll get another couple of years out of it. We want to do a loft extension at some point and it makes sense to get a new boiler put up there when we get it done.

I have an appointment at the dentist tomorrow to sort out the tooth. Thank goodness I'm still under maternity allowance because I have a horrible suspicion that I might need a crown....

DH coped admirably on my night out and didn't even need the expressed milk so that's gone into the freezer for future excursions..... She slept until I got in and I dream fed her when I got in. Unfortunately she was up every two hours after that. I think she gets too disturbed if I wake her to feed so in future, I'm just going to let her sleep. She was back to only waking once last night, so I got a good couple of blocks of sleep, so all good.

DD hates being cold (she's definitely like me - DS is a radiator like DH!). Her room is 18 degrees (because of the blinking boiler) so we had her in a long sleeved vest, baby grow, socks and a 2.5 grobag. She slept really soundly. The nights where we've dressed her according to the recommendations she's woken up loads, feeling like a little ice-block. I'm the same and have to sleep with a heated blanket in the winter. DH basically sleeps in a sheet, even in the coldest of winters and still sweats loads... DS is the same. I put him in a vest under his pjs and socks (his room is even cooler than DD's) and I went in to check and he was toasty warm, even out of his covers.

Can't wait for the boiler to be fixed!

No sign of teeth with DD, though lots of 'teething' if you know what I mean. She starting to show signs of rolling, though hasn't done it yet.

Taking DD for the final jabs this afternoon, 4 weeks late due to two cancellations. She'll be 20 weeks on Wed.... how time flies.

June2009 · 20/10/2009 07:04

heya!

The title should have been "teething" and not weaning that's the next thing after colic isn't it...
How did you break your tooth ineed? Last time I went to the dentist I'd eating a caramel sweet and my whole crown got stuck to it .
My gums have suddenly started to be sore again so I think I have to go there as well.
If we don't put the heating on C.'s room temperature goes down to 16 degrees according to the monitor. I don't think it's very accurate.

skillbo that's nice of dh to do this for you to catch up on sleep. My dh is well meaning and says he'll look after C (so I can do some work mind) but he'll just put her in her chair while he is cooking or in the swing if he needs to make a phone call and I can hear from upstairs that she's not happy so I end up going to take her to play with her. He has so much to learn still.
LOL @ the doctor's penis joke .

Well I have a new routine, getting up way before baby does so I can do a couple of hours of very productive work, it is working so far!

take care juners

Naat · 20/10/2009 10:58

Hi ladies,

I promise to catch up later but I need to ask for some advice.

I tried calling the citizens advice bureau but every time I call they just tell me to call again as they're all busy and I've been calling since yesterday

The day we moved into this flat back in June we told the agents that there was mould on the skirting boards. They said "oh, I don't know how this happened, this should have been cleaned before you moved in, I'm sending someone this week" I told them we were already there and all our things were there so we would clean them as otherwise when the cleaners came we'd have had to move everything again and I was about to give birth.

Since then we have emailed them again and again with regards to the same issue. For instance, there were cats (belonging to a tenant upstairs, you cannot have any pets here so they leave the cat outside and throw food from their window , yes, my lovely neighbours)and these cats entered our flat several times when our windows were open. Now, I love cats but I'm quite afraid of unknown ones so I email them saying that I could only open the windows a tiny bit to air the flat as otherwise the cats came in.

They said they'd do something about it, this was August.

Then the cats pooed ALL OVER the side of our bedroom windows (both rooms) so flies came obviously and the smell was horrid. I again emailed them asking for someone to be sent to clean them, nothing happened. I emailed again sayiing I couldn't open those windows as flies came in and the smell was bad. Nothing happened.

Now those two rooms are full of mould, of course. We had to throw away clothes and shoes this weekend, the stand of the moses basket and a part of our wardrobe. DH called them yesterday so that they would please let us move out mid November instead of at the end, so that the flat could be fixed but we didn't have to be in here smelling the mould or the chemicals of the paint, etc. They said no. I have no idea if we have the right or not, but it seems to me that we tried to get solutions every time and every single time nothing has been done. This could have been solved much earlier

Do you know if given the circumstances we have the right to move out 15 days earlier without having to pay for the full month?

Sorry, this was long! Any help/advice, I'll be really grateful, lovely Juners. Hope you're all more than fine. I've been dealing with things related to this problem Sun and yest so I haven't been able to post properly, I promise to catch up Thanks!!!

bigcar · 20/10/2009 11:35

morning all

naat, ((((hugs)))) that's awful! Haven't a clue on the legalities of it, my guess would be that they have no intention of repairing anything and will do the same to the next tenant and appealing to their better nature sounds a waste of time. CAB are crap at answering the phone, best thing to do is to go to their office in person, just be prepared for a long wait, the queues can be awful. Does this mean you got the flat you're after [hopeful emoticon]

erm, lol at man flu, starting early eh?

ineed, how's the boiler? E doesn't sleep well if he's cold either, have bought some long sleeve vests this morning! Hope it goes ok at the dentist!

june, apart from E, all mine have weaned before teeth, you never know

June2009 · 20/10/2009 12:10

oh naat sorry youre having such a hard time.
Sre they member of ARLA, association of registered letting agents. You could complain to them?
I find that putting things in writing with something like "formal complaint" in big bold letters at the start, with a lenghty record of when you called them and what their response was etc. (even if just roughly.) give them a timeline of what you expect them to do and when by.
usually gets things moving faster than a phone call.
and send it special delivery.
Have you got a written contract? there might (should) be a clause in there that stipulates the landlord has to keep some kind of minimum response time. or that he has to keep the basic health and safety requirements (mould?).
Would the rspca rescue these cats? They can't be happy leaving outside.

I'm having a nightmare with teething. Baby's been unsettled since 10am. Eventually gave C. some calpol so she would settle and she's falling asleep next to me in her chair.
Im monitoring her closely as she's had dentinox, ashton and parsons powder AND calpol in the last 2 hours
almost finished her milk though which is good.

Does anyone know of anything else that works?
someone mentionned granules, i had a look in tesco but couldnt find them (i don't know the name)

June2009 · 20/10/2009 12:27

(gosh naat I hope you can make sense of what I wrote in my previous post, it's barely readable and I'm not even typing with one hand...sorry about that I'm in a rush catching up with everything wile babe is sleeping (mn being one of these things ;)

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 20/10/2009 14:15

Naat - so sorry to hear about your shitty neighbours and even shittier landlords. I don't know about legal things (mrsMcJnr might know), but I agree with June about checking out your contract.

June - the granules we use are called Teetha and they sell them behind the counter at the Sainsbury's pharmacy. I know Boots do them too. I find them much better than Ashton and Parsons (which I find a bit of a faff for minimum improvement). They are just chamomile and seem to calm both my DC down. In fact, if DS is on a tantrum day, I give him one and he does calm. I'm sure it's just a placebo to make you feel like you're doing something, but it does seem to work with my two. I hope you see some improvement soon, teething is rotten.

I broke my tooth eating a chip! Nothing hard at all! I saw the dentist today and I need to finish the root canal and then I need a crown, though I think they can save the outside of my tooth. I can have a free NHS silver one, or if I don't want to look like a pirate, I can have a porcelain one, but it'll be hundreds.... aaagh!

DH's uncle said he couldn't fix the boiler, so it'll be an expensive bloody plumber so we can get some heat in the house..... double aaagh!

Full of cold today.

worriedamy · 20/10/2009 15:12

Hi everyone

Just a quick pop in to say hello, its been a crazy few days!! Over the weekend we had my mum's 50th and brother's 18th on the Saturday and Sunday, so that was a bit of a blur! And on Thursday this week, we go on the 5-6 hour journey to Plymouth to see DP's son pass out of the Navy (fingers crossed!!), then back home on the Friday, and back down to Gosport on the Monday morning to take him to his next stage of training! So lots and lots of travelling!! So not going to have much time to post, but I do read on my mobile, and will be doing lots of that on those long car journeys!!

Feeding is still a nightmare unfortunatley June, I know exactly what you mean with the teething- the only help my HV gave me was 'well you've got another 20 teeth to come through yet, so its going to be tough'... well thanks for that love!!

re: contraception- not really necessary here at the moment must really get my act together with that!!

Speak to you all soon xx

worriedamy · 20/10/2009 15:14

oh forgot to say, I have added another couple of pics to my profile from the weekend!! Caelan looked to smart in his little shirt and waistcoat!! I had bought him some gorgeous little shoes from mamas and papas too, but they stayed on about 2, maybe 3, seconds!! Do all your LOs end the day with one sock on...?

Naat · 20/10/2009 19:54

Hi all, let's try and catch up

thank you all for your advice, I'll look into all the suggestions and will keep you updated.

Worried, Caelan looks adorable. Mila's ALWAYS moving her legs and feet so if left alone she takes off both socks after 2min I got something called "socks on" from mothercare, it's just something that you put on top of the socks and keeps them on Hope you have a good time travelling around, congratulations to your DH's son

Ineed, oh dear! A chip! Ouch, I can only imagine how expensive the porcelain one is Hope you can get the boiler fixed soon and that it's not too expensive for you. It's just typical that when one bad thing happens, then a lot of them just follow

June, yes, we have everything in writing, thank God. We never sent a certified letter or anything simliar as we always thought we could just deal with it like adults Not so. They're supposed to send an engineer tonmorrow to assess the damage and then they'll decide whether to let us go without making us pay for it all or not. I'll read the contract tonight, you're right about that. Sorry teething is proving to be a nightmare at the June household. Mila seems to have gone off it but I'm sure it'll come back with a vengeance. maybe ineed's tip could work?

bigcar, yep, they're just crap at answering calls. I hope I don't have to go down there as it's hardly ideal with Mila Is Edward more settled at night now?\

Erm, LOL at man flu

Skillbo, your weekend sounds like bliss! GLad to hear you managed to get some rest.

Mila has lost her patience now. Got to go. Waves to all!!!

June2009 · 20/10/2009 19:55

thanks ineed I'll try and get some of that, it hasnt been as bad since she's had calpol but you can see its really bothering her and nothing she chews on is satisfying enough.

mrsmc how did the christening go? hope you're ok.

We're starting to think about C/s christening, there should be around 30 to 40 people and im really not sure whether to do a cold buffet or tea/coffee cakes as we'll be back home around 5pm. the girl who was going to help me just cancelled on me as well.

we@re trying to teach C to crawl, she loves being on her belly but she gets really frustrated that she can't move forward. Do your lo do that as well?

worried C has little shoes that look like a cross between trainers and kickers (with laces) so they hold the socks in place
otherwise i use BIG socks that go right up to the knees.
Or she also has some shoes that are elasticated at the ankle (bigpink fluffy ones from boots and some socks/shoes which are also great. but then she's a girl so she can get away with more I think.

all right gotta go...

silkcushion · 20/10/2009 21:48

oh my goodness I can't even think about catching up.

I've been back at work a month now. Working full time with two littlies is not easy but thankfully, Eleri is a dream to look after and even Megan seems to have now realised she should be asleep all night.

No teething here yet. Eleri is 17 weeks old now and I haven't thought of weaning either - doesn't seem to show any signs of not being satisfied with milk.

Hope all of you and yr babies are doing well

MrsMcJnr · 20/10/2009 21:59

Hey girls jusy nipping on quickly as I think it is probably considered rude to MN when you have house guests Aaliyah's christening took place on Sat night and was lovely (she was an angel) but I was right to postpone the party, DH is still ill and dare I say it, I think he has swine flu! Hope all is well with all of you and I look forward to catching up at the weekend.

ermintrude13 · 20/10/2009 22:44

MrsMc glad the big day went well and hope your house isn't hit by the lurgy big time!

Naat No advice to add about your situation but June's ideas all seemed sensible - show them you're onto them and have kept records, it might scare them into being reasonable!

Worried Caelan looks gorgeous, fab hair!
Re socks - those Inch Blue/ Daisy Roots type leather shoes are the only thing that stay on and keep socks on too. I have some from DD so they've lasted a good 11 yrs and are worth the investment!

Ineed ouch, that tooth problem sounds yukky. Pirates are terribly 'in' these days, could you have a gold crown?

Arthur is asleep at last so I think I'd better go and join him. Night all

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 21/10/2009 08:03

For those with sock problems, Gap socks are the only ones that stay on. Seriously, the never come off!

DH says we'll find the money for a porcelain tooth so I don't have to look like a pirate!

Got loads of kids and mums coming over for a play date - nice and manic when you're full of cold....
