Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Morning all!

Skies, yes, my cold has gone, fortunately I finished the ABs yesterday (it was a 7-day treatment!) and the lump is now gone. Let's hope that's all for now You were brave venturing out in such snowy conditions. I must say I haven't stepped outside since last Friday! Well, yesterday I went out to pick up the post but that's all

Strawberry, are you snowed in as well? We have inches and inches so it's absolutely impossible to venture out with the pram AND too dangerous to just wear the sling (in case I fall). at using the bathroom scales, I hadn't thought of that!

Daisy, thanks for the advice THe only thing is M is still BF so I'd have to express, I just cannot find the time (or energy) to do it We're still trying the method of having DH in the bedroom when I'm putting her to bed, and singing to her, etc (which on night 1 hand't worked at all and last night was quite OK) so let's see if your friend's rule applies

Bigcar, I haven't seen a birth announcement written by her but Geraldine posted an update later that day. As Strawberry said, it was a big baby!

June, If you're not completely sure, I think it's good to postpone it, just to give you a bit more time to do your research. Hope you've had peace this week re. visitors.

Hi to all Juners!

Right... M is a bit sniffly so I guess she's going to have a cold She absolutely hates when I wipe her nose, though. She screams!

AND in 48hs this baby turned into a moving baby! She now doesn't like to just stay in a sitting position as soon as I sit her on her mat she goes on her tummy and starts "sliding" backwards like a crab The only thing is that she moves really quickly and yesterday I turned around for a few moments and suddenly she was under the Christmas tree (which is going down ASAP today!), then she appeared under the coffee table! I swear on Tuesday she was not doing this, how did it happen so quickly!?

Anyway, she's gone a bit off food these days, I don't know if it's due to teething, the cold...

We're really snowed in here, and yesterday we had minus 12 degrees!!!!!

Hope you have a lovely day!

Waves!!!

Naat · 08/01/2010 10:16

Oh my!

My termometer marks minus 16 right now!!!! COLD!!!!

daisy5 · 08/01/2010 10:42

naat - yes, I haven't bothered taking DD to nursery this morning as F found it almost too chilly for his little face at -5oC so not sure he would like -10oC or whatever else it is down here on the plains in Manchester/Cheshire.

F is moving too. I put him down in one place and he pops up 10 minutes later somewhere else completely!

whenskiesaregrey · 08/01/2010 13:24

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr it is so cold here! A village near here registered -18 the other night, and the radio says its going to be -20 over the weekend, I can't even get my head around it!! Grrr, I'm getting such cabin fever, hate being stuck in the house. This is the longest amount of time (excluding our quick 10 minutes out yesterday to the weigh-in clinic) that I have been in the house since I left work for maternity leave! I hate it!!

Naat we have the backwards sliding thing here too! I can't imagine what it will be like when they all start crawling properly, oh wont it look strange?! ! The 'mini-movers' group that I go to has a lady their and her LO is 8-9 months and crawling anywhere and everywhere. She is only small, so maybe looks not much older than our LOs, and I stood watching her crawl around and thought 'God, I can't even imagine Caelan doing that'. I just can't get my head around it, never mind walking and talking!!

June I think Tee got Adam vacinated (I might be wrong) and I think Steph (effie?) was thinking of getting Rupert vacinated, so they might be good to speak to?? I think both their LOs were in SCBU so maybe more at risk? I don't want to speak for them though, but they are both on Facebook, so I'm sure they wouldn't mind talking to you about it, for you to get a more balanced view?? And while your at it, you could get em to come along here and say hello!!

So is everyone else getting cabin fever or are we managing to get out and about?! We've not had the bins collected or any post for days, and people are dragging their children around on sledges as opposed to buggies around here!! The other day I couldn't get out of the back door, the house is sooooo cold! I maybe wish Caelan was a bit older so that he could enjoy the snow, as we probably wont get snow like this for another 15 years!! Naat dont want to sound ignorant, but do you get snow like this in Arg.?? My sister's DP is from South Africa and has never seen snow! It is about 35 degrees in South Africa at the moment though, so I'd gladly swap them their sunshine for a bit of snow!!

One quick question... Caelan now has two bottom teeth (sooo sharp !) popping through to go with his fang - when do I need to start thinking about brushing his teeth?? Do I use toothpaste? I can't see how I can, as I'm sure he will just eat it all!!

daisy5 · 08/01/2010 14:37

whenskies - where are you? naat is in Huddersfield and I am in Cheshire. I haven't driven for 3 weeks!!!!

whenskiesaregrey · 08/01/2010 16:24

I'm in Skem at the moment, but all my family and friends are in Ellesmere Port (where I'm from), so I still see Cheshire as round by me . The council is so backwards around here, not a jot has been done to clear the roads. The town is like an ice-link!

Skillbo · 09/01/2010 00:07

Hello lovely ladies - sorry been a bit quiet and sooo much to catch up on!

Naat - glad to hear you're feeling better but sorry to hear you (and maybe M) have a cold. We have been brushing Jazzy's tooth (still just the one) since it arrived. You put the smallest smear on the brush and away you go. Don't worry about them swallowing it (provided you don't have flouride in your water, there is no harm in them doing this) - means you don't have to worry about them swilling water either. Jazzy loves it - guess the sensation is quite nice on sore gums?

Whenskies - Belated birthday wishes Did you know that if you have a wii and the wii board, you can weigh your lo on it? Basically, do your regular body test and then weigh yourself again holding your baby. I don't rate this much though as both me and DF tried it and we weighed less each time - but that might be just us and could give you a bit of an indicator! On the cows milk thing, we give Jazzy it is lots of things - I return to work on Monday and so have been encouraged to add milk to most things to keep her calcium up and so we just go for it - also loves cheese, dairylea, eggs and yoghurt/fromage frais. Looking at your routine though, C has a lot more milk than Jazzy... I was really worried as she't not been taking it from anything other than the boob and so when I rtw, she wouldn't have much. However, my HV seems happy with our 'routine' and says she should get enough fluid as long as she is getting the dairy and water in her diet...

Our 'routine' (flexible but she's pretty good at sticking with it).. Milk feed at about 6ish and then back to sleep until about 830/9. Breakfast at about 930 (with milky food and water) and then snooze about 1030/11. She then gets up and has lunch about 12/1230 (with water) and then goes down for another nap about 3. She has another milk feed about 4 ish, dinner about 530 (with water) and then bed for about 730/8 after some more milk. She's sleeping pretty well and I don't feed her in the night (luckily, DF seems to be able to soothe her back so he's in charge of night wakings) and also get a bit of a lie-in which did had me worried (as she sleeps at least 13 hours a night) but as she only ever has about two hours at a push during the day it's all good!

June - Jazzy loves the big bed, rolls around like a good 'un. Also doing the whole skydiving thing which makes me laugh - seems determined to crawl but not really got it yet. I know what you mean about no-one knowing your lo like you do... DF is great with Jazzy but am a little nervous about going back to work as she has little quirks that I know DF knows about, but which I like to tell myself only I can spot. As you can see, Jazzy on three meals and loving it.. does mean she has less milk but as mentioned, she seems fine (I was also concerned about constipation but that doesn't seem to have effected her either, so far!). Swine flu - hmmmmm, just not sure. We were offered an experimental jab here in S'ton when Jazzy was first born (a 6in1 to replace the 5in1) and the thought of something not fully tested being used on my lo made me very nervous,... I know its not the same as the swine flu, but not sure about the research. DF's SIL is a microbiologist so might ask her opinion if we are offered it (no sign of that yet though!)

Daisy - another belated birthday, your day did sound amazing! We give Jazzy a spoon to play with whilst we feed her and this seems to work (until its thrown on the floor) and can sometimes take the spoon I'm using to her mouth with a little help from me - but is still a way away from feeding herself that way. Loves her finger food though - which I try to give at every meal so that she doesn't get scared of lumps...

Bunny - had two periods now since June but they aren't remotely predictable (thought one was coming at the beginning of December and turned up on Xmas eve of course!). Best of luck though - heres hoping you fall without having to have one at all!

Snow - Jazzy was also pretty obsessed with opening and closing her hand. Think she had fianlly worked out it belonged to her but that seems a bit daft as she's been grabbing things for months but who knows what goes on in their pretty little heads! I am lucky in that DF is looking after Jazzy but were considering a childminder - it is the home environment whilst she is still so little. Having said that, you need to make sure they offer the care you want though so would spend a day or so with them - anyone can get a certificate, its not the same as nursery care! Also, they can only take one under 1 so you probably need to start scouting now. Hope you find something that works for you though!!

Strawbs - my bf group was a godsend in the early months and I kept going until just before 6 months as it was such a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the timing is now not so great but will still pop in if I'm off. I can also only suggest teething as possibly unsettling L as you seem to have ruled out everything else. Please don't worry about social services - L sounds like a happy little girl which is what they will be looking for!

Bigcar - I put brocolli in Jazzys scrambled egg which sounds hanging (and turns it a cracy green colour) but she munches it like a crazy lady so can't be all bad.

We didn't get much snow here, but seem to have got lots of ice. MIL have fallen over three times and damaged her cocycx (sp) so she's been a bit scarce of late (June - hope the same for you!) but Jazzy seemed a little scared when we ventured out - just looked totally bewildered and then started to cry... poor thing. Not sure if it was the snow though or the steering wheel on her buggy which freaked her out

Anyways - its late and I should get some shuteye.. I have quite a lot to read before I go back to work and haven't even looked yet. I feel a bit guilty - I was planning on expressing when I got back to work and so my manager has sorted out a room and a place to store my milk (and had to teach HR a thing or two as they were clueless about our rights) but now it seems like I don't have to! Feel like maybe I should take my pump in on the first day and give it a whirl as she's been really busy (my post wasn't covered whilst I've been on leave and theres only two of us) and still managed to sort this... Oh well, I guess everyone now knows what to do but can't believe I'm the only one in a company of thousands who has ever asked to express at work.

Anyway - BED (and big cuddles to all Juners!)

June2009 · 09/01/2010 00:24

Heya, just quick note to say that we went for the jab in the end.
When i called to postpone this morning they said the next clnic was in february and I thought it was a bit too long to wait if we did change our mind.
I re-read the weekly reports and some articles on the bbc website. I spoke to the nurse this morning and asked them about the side effects they saw on the 60/70 children they vaccinated there and asked several more questions about swine flu and the jab, in the end we decided to do it. It has been a really hard decision to make.

Babe didn't even notice the jab. She's been just normal since as well, happy as usual. Glad it's over and done with. We met with our neighbours in the surgery, they were getting their 2yo twins vaccinated. We'd never talked to them before and it was reassuring not to be on our own, the twins were acting as if nothing had happened.

We braved the ice and went out to see some friends on wednesday afternoon so not getting too bad cabin fever.
We walked to the surgery this pm, it's round the corner but it's very slippery everywhere, dh managed to go out and do a bit of shopping.
our road, and all the side roads are not gritted at all and a complete ice rink but the main roads are ok-ish.

skies did you get the second bounty pack? (not the weaning on -which im still waiting for, but the one before) it had a little but of toothpaste for first teeth. it came with a tiny brush that goes on your finger and you are supposed to brush the teeth wth it.
both my friends who have babies with teeth keep forgetting though so im not sure how they are getting on, but i know one of them did mention the baby was eating it more than anything.

naat hope youre ok in spite of the cold. how re you doing with work?
I havent got a thermometer i can put outside.
nice one M for moving about :D, i think we'll be baby proofing our houses in our next thread :D

I've not had time to catch up properly, still wondering how people with more than 1 cope??

Naat · 09/01/2010 17:52

Hi all!

June, I'm fine, yes for some reason despite not having left home in a while I'm not suffering from cabin fever yet... I just don't want to go out in this cold (today minus 9!) with M sniffling (probably PFB syndrome there, I know). Glad to hear C didn't even notice the jab and was fine after it. We'll definitely need some socket blocking thingies soon... Work was fine, I managed to brave the cold symptoms and do it all to deadline, fortunately. Hope you're having a quiet weekend just you two and C

Skillbo, hi! I think you meant Skies, as we don't have any teeth over here yet The advice was great, though, so thanks! So sorry to hear about your MIL damaging her coccyx, ouch!! but glad that gave you some time for just the three of you... Another one here staring at her hand, but for some reason she just does that with the right one Is it this Monday that you go back? (I can't remember if it's this one or the next one )

Skies, don't worry about it Argentina is quite a big country so we have the whole range The north is very hot, especially in summer (but nights get quite cold), in the middle the 4 seasons are quite marked, and then south it's cooooold and snowy (in summer quite nice but generally cold) and the very very end of the country, right opposite Antartica is cold all the time. Sorry, that was long In Buenos Aires we have cold winters, but we don't get any snow (maybe once every 50 years ).

Daisy, oh I bet staying in and snuggling with you was a better plan for DD I've cleared most of the living room now so that M can "slide" away

Hi to all juners!

Quiet day here. We got a draft excluder for the main door today as it had a nasty gap at the bottom.

I found out I can't start my driving lessons (they were one of my NY resolutions ) until I get my passport back! because I need to apply for my learner driving license and I have to send my passport in! I'll now have to wait between 4-8 weeks Aaaanyway...

M's sniffles are better, she has been less "drippy" today

On a different note, I'm now very into the twilight book and jeeeez, it's embarrasing! The teenager in my has already fallen madly for Mr Edward I couldn't help it! Man!

Hope you're all having a nice weekend, snuggled up at home with the LOs (and DHs/DPs/DFs of course )

Waves!!!

Gauchita · 11/01/2010 18:13

Hi all!

Wow it's quiet here I've changed my name, btw, I'm Naat I was getting bored of my real name with only an extra vowel

Anyway, hope you're all well, not too disturbed by the snow... Over here it's still quite chaotic M is better, still a bit sniffly but otherwise fine.

Hope to read from you all soon!

Waves!!!

June2009 · 12/01/2010 12:21

hola gauchita :D
(what does it mean btw, anything to do with "gaucho"?)

Things have been hectic, lots of work and baby is still not back to sleeping through .
dh is working (from home) at night and whatever routine we had going is now officially out of the window.

The snow is melting so we've been able to go places at last. We're getting C. weighed on Thursday so I'll finally have an idea of how she is doing with solids/milk.
Thank you Juners who have shared their routines!
I'm thinking of going the GF way and introducing a more rigid routine, if only I could find her book. I bought it months ago (6 months ago actually LOL) and cannot find it anywhere, I hope I didn't throw it away in a hormonal madness moment!)
at the moment C's day varies so much I don't know what's going on anymore.
She is signing for "milk" though which helps :D

take care juners!

Gauchita · 12/01/2010 15:42

Hi June!
Awww so cute that C started signing for milk! What does she do? Maybe I can teach M to do it Sorry to hear you've had lots of work and that C has not been sleeping too well... hope that improves soon and she goes back to sleeping through. Hope you manage to find the book, I hate hate hate looking things, so I know what you feel
Yes, my name is feminine for gaucho but the diminutive of the word, it sounds nicer

Hi to all Juners! Where are you Juners!!?? There are very few of us these days Hope to hear from you soon

Waves!!

MrsMcJnr · 12/01/2010 17:26

book marking as I lost you! hope everyone is well, had visitors so haven't managed to get a MN fix for ages... maybe tonight!

whenskiesaregrey · 12/01/2010 17:30

Hi everyone

I'm busy organising at the moment- its good to actually have something to do for a change!! I'm arranging a suprise 18th for DP's son for a week on Saturday, ooh I'm so excited!! Hopefully he won't know a thing about it! He has just been told what ship he will be on when he finishes his training in March, and is rather disappointed that he will be going to Dublin, Scotland and the Falklands- expecially as one of the other lads told him it was going to Barbados, lol [winding him up emoticon]. He was even more disappointed when I looked up the average temperature for June in the Falklands (-5!!), I think he was hoping to top up his tan!

June Did you see they were talking about Gina Ford on Loose Women today (or were you having a much more productive day than me, and not watching tele!!) Where did you learn baby sign? Thats one of the few things they don't do around here! Have you given C anymore chicken? I bought some baby spaghetti and baby rice (not the powder, actually mini rice grains!) and I made some tomato sauce, so will give C some chicken in a couple of weeks with pasta and sauce! Has anyone tried fish yet??

Gauchita Naat was a lot easier to spell lol! But yey for the name change, I felt proper mumsnetish when I changed my name, as it seems to be the in thing to do, lol!! Our snow is finally starting to melt a bit, it has all fell off the trees anyway! The roads and pavements are all still like an ice-rink though, not been touched by grit

Hello to everyone

snowwombat · 12/01/2010 21:51

Hi girls,
Quiet night here, new CSI to watch for company as DH is on-call.

whenskies I gave A fish tonight- undyed smoked haddock and he loved it. I made A a huge batch of chicken and corn soup but he hates it.Having to hide it with mashed pumpkin to get it into him and reduce the icecubes of it taking up space in the freezer. An aunt lives in the Falklands. The wildlife looks amazing- if your DP's son is into that sort of thing . Have fun organising the do!

gauchita love the new name! The twilight books are addictive!Which one are you reading? I was a late comer to them but they kept me awake through the last few weeks of being pregnant. Was my plan to read them on mat leave but I worked until 6 days before A arrived so it never really happened.

june How lovely about the signing! We are trying with A but no response except smiles so far. Are you using the Makaton signs?

Mrsmc hope you having a lovely time with your visitors. Are they the sort to mind A so you can have a nap? How are things going?

skillbo how is the return to work this week?

daisy how is the snow near you? My friends on the welsh border have heaps! I like the cheesy broccoli- will have to try with A. He loves cauliflower cheese- just eats the florets.

bigcar how did DD1's interview go?

strawberry we are doing a mix of spooning and BLW. A usually has a mix of veg/protein/carb at dinner- whatever is to hand. I often spoon in some mash vege or frozen soup.He likes licking food off rice crackers or toast. Roast veges for BLW are a huge favourite. Small pieces of cooked chicken, occasionally ham. Tonight he had fish. Piece of fruit or fruit puree and a yoghurt too. As to routine- our only routine is a morning BF and porridge for breakfast, then an evening meal about 6, bath then bed. We fit in lunch and 2 snacks but we are out/away alot so I don't adhere to strict times. A occasionally naps in the day- never consistent. Didn't sleep at all today.

I wondered if anyone else had some ideas for getting fish into babies?Maybe home made fish cakes?

Back to CSI and hopes A will sleep through. Was up from 1-3 last night- snotty and hot (A not me ) Waves to everyone

MrsMcJnr · 12/01/2010 22:39

I just can?t believe how quickly time has flown recently and that Aaliyah is now over 7 months old I especially remember DS at this age as I was pregnant with Aaliyah and very sick. Somehow life had all settled into a pattern with him by this age but not with Aaliyah! Every night is so unpredictable, some nights she is up every 45 mins, others she sleeps for fairly long stretches and only wakes a couple of times. She always wakes up though and always wants milk. I have tried so many things and nothing makes a difference so I am just being philosophical now, maybe she just won?t be a great sleeper! It is so hard though dealing with a demanding toddler and a baby who is very clingy on so little sleep.

She now eats 4 small meals a day. She loves apple, pear, dried fruit and fingers of toast but isn?t really a fan of carrot or potato or any combination of those. She does like green beans and courgette though. Tonight she tried chicken for the first time and hated it ? I will have to persevere. She now has 6 teeth, 4 at the top and 2 on the bottom and there has been a marked increase in what she can do and wants to do these days. She loves to sky dive on her belly like a lot of the other babies, she can travel on the floor but more from dragging herself than from crawling. Every day she sits up for a little longer unsupported and she is quite a whiz in her walker and door bouncer now. I certainly have to keep a watchful eye over her and over DS who gets up to all sorts of mischief. I am going to create a safe zone for Aaliyah over the next few days, had one for DS and it made my life so much easier.

DH and DS are off to Scotland on Thursday for 5 days for my FIL?s 75th birthday. I am hoping that I will get lots done around the house but I don?t know how realistic that is, Aaliyah doesn?t really like me to leave the room and she is much worse when DS is not around to distract her. I?ll miss my boys and it will be very odd being apart from DS, trying not too think about it too much!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes, I did have a lovely day but came down with mastitis in the evening and had to go to bed, luckily it didn?t amount to anything as I caught it in time.

MrsMcJnr · 12/01/2010 22:44

Ronshar - so lovely to hear from you and thank you for what you said it was a hard time and I hope you like I have found the passing of time a comfort. JustJules and I spoke some time back, she has a baby now a little girl I think would love to chat more where do you hang out these days? x

daisy5 · 12/01/2010 22:46

june - I think it is interesting to read the book, and it is interesting to hear about her experiences, and get a 'feel' for how to move gradually from an unideal situation to an ideal one. Personally, I think you can borrow a lot of the good ideas, and leave the ones out that just don't feel right for you and your baby. I really agree that 12 hours night sleep pattern is a great one to set up from early on, whether it is 7 - 7 or 8-8. She has clearly experimented a lot in getting the milk/meal/sleep combination right throughout the day and I base my day around it, but I've changed a few things, and I have made a few decisions about how I do things. I purposefully don't do things at 'exactly' the same time each day, as I need a bit of flexibility in case my daughter needs me or something comes up. He does however expect breakfast on the dot of 8am and bellows if it isn't forthcoming.

Wake/Milk 7am (7-8oz - but F hardly ever drinks that much so I squeeze the rest into breakfast or give him a yoghurt with breakfast, so he gets happily through to lunch)

Breakfast 8am (I find if I feed him before 8 he doesn't show enough interest in breakfast so I opt for this time and did with DD too - also gives us all time to have a cuddle in bed, get showered and dressed and ready for breakfast).

Nap (I put him down any time between 9.00 and 9.30 and let him sleep for anywhere between 30mins and 1 hour (this seems to work well for us - but she is far more regimented about it, and probably you should stick to the same time for the first week if you do this to get her used to napping at this time).

Lunch: Ideally I would like to give him lunch at 11:30 or even 12:00 if he has had a big breakfast, but as I have to collect DD from nursery at 12:00 and as he takes ages to eat lunch (45mins) I've had to change this to 11:00 which is a bit unideal but means I can then put him down for a nap at.....

Lunchtime nap: 12:15/12:45 He is still getting used to this nap. He took ages before he would go for more than 1 hour at lunchtime but now he sleeps 2 - 2.5 hours which is good.

Milk - Sometime between 2.30/3.00 5-6oz of milk.

5:00 Supper

6/6:15 Bath

6:30 Milk + cuddle

6:50 Has fallen asleep

10:00 Milk 3 oz

GF steers people towards dropping the 10pm feed from 4 months as it is 'not necessary' but both mine have continued to want/need something until about 7 months so I have continued. I take the opportunity to change his nappy so he doesn't wake because of a wet nappy. Whenever I've tried to drop this he ends up waking continually during the night, so I'm much happier to do the 10pm mini feed and then get 8 hours sleep. I will drop it down to 2oz next week and then down to 1oz or just water after that and hopefully he lets me drop it by the end of the month.

So that is how I do it. I am not as regimented as she says, but I think you have to make allowances. F is teething badly the past couple of days and it does disrupt things and I take him into bed or this morning I let him sleep from 9.30 - 12:00 because he was exhausted and because a morning nap wouldn't disrupt his night time sleep and I could see he was exhausted after struggling to sleep last night with the pain (he then took a 1 hour nap about 3.30 while we were out). I think she's right in saying that this will happen for one day, but try to get back to routine the following day.

Where I really agreed with her, was that once I got the milk feeds set up right, the eating patterns fell into place and the daytime sleep seemed to too. Once that is all working well, nighttime sleep improves. I know everyone goes on about her CC techniques and tough routines, but I found it was just fabulous for inspiration and good general guidelines - giving me an idea of what I could aim towards gradually. Even if she writes in a fairly regimented way, you can 'pick and mix' a bit. The great thing is that she was a nanny in so many households (and did those hours up in the night too) so she has a lot of practical experience that 'specialist doctors' don't have.

Anyway, I won't mention a word after this....as don't want to sound like a GF fanatic...it just helped me a lot.....and for the record, nothing in her book 'How to Potty Train in a Week' seemed to inspire my daughter and so I threw the book in the bin!!!

hola gauchita whenskies - I tried a plaice and carrot recipe and he hates it....so will try cod next. I feed him chicken every lunchtime, either chicken casserole, chicken and sweet potato, or chicken, carrot, sweet potato and red pepper - the last two are the most popular.

skillbo - F loves gnawing on wholewheat pita bread with hummus, especially as he is teething at the moment. He loves soup - I've tried pumpkin and carrot soup. And pasta, cheese sauce & pureed broccoli a popular one too.

daisy5 · 12/01/2010 22:55

Lots of cross posting

Hello mrsmcjnr - gosh 6 teeth - well done Aaliyah. I hope you have a nice few days while they are away but guess it will feel very quiet. Funny the way they all find different ways to move around. F likes to roll, he will see something by teh door he wants and will roll over and over and over until he gets there. Sometimes he goes off course and ends up under the sofa or the table and bellows.

Good ideas snowwombat (appropriate name at the moment). I'm going to try the cauliflower cheese and the smoked haddock. I tried giving him fish fingers as finger food but he was a bit hesitant. Maybe I'll try it again. I gave with some 'next to no fat' chips and he liked those!!!!

daisy thank you very much for your post, your routine sounds pretty much like C's when all is well. I agree when the feeds are sorted then evreything else falls into place for us as well.
Today baby woke up at 8:15, milk at 8:30 followed by some breakfast cereals, then down for a nap at 10:15 and she just woke up (11:40) which is a looong nap for her.

When C wakes up I usually change her and then feed her pretty much straight away, maybe I should try and wait for a bit and she'll be hungrier. Still have not found the book though I think it may be behind the sofa, not got round to checking though.
I think if I wrote things down it would probably help, i wonder if I'm thinking that it's all over the place because I'm trying to do a lot at the same time and in fact she's pretty regular?

mrsmc it's nice to hear from you, all these teeth!! Maybe that's what's keeping her up?? Still no teeth here, no skydiving but she does the crawling motions when I put her on the bed.

We don't do very much tummy time though, how much do you do everyday? More than 10 minutes say?

I've poke a couple of people on facebook and ask them to update us :D

snow we haven't tried fish yet, c's had chicken and I think it's the texture more than the taste that she doesn't like very much, she still had it though. (I had to shape it into little balls for her to pick up herself though .
I have found that sometimes she won;t eat what I give her but if I just give her the spoon she gets on with it.
re: signs, I don't actually know what signs er use (it's a shame there are so many diferent ones). In the end we decided to go to a class here that runs every week, it's £5.50 oer family and the instructor is really enthusiastic and we do lots of songs and stories etc, it's around an hour, haldf of which is signing/songs etc and the other half is playing on the mat with toys and tea. there were over 20 of us last tuesday which was great. C also got a little certificate for her signing the milk
gauchita C signs milk with her fist, opening and closing her fingers, it's like milking a cow. There's a gallery here
We're working on "eat" now and whatevr I can think of that we learn in class.

We gave her steak mince (burger sliced into strips and blw) yesterday and that's what she is having today as well (but pureed this time, with green beans).
She loves a bit of pitta bread which is handy when we are eating as it keeps her occupied for a while.

We tried some "night milk" yesterday and it's a nightmare getting out of the bottle (even with a fast flow teat), tried the cup but there's only so much she will take with that. She still woke up a couple of times but the dummy did the trick luckily.

It's been snowing all morning, dh is at work and I hope he can make it back without problems. Side roads aren't gritted and today the bigger roads near and around our house here weren't gritted either...

skies I love organising surprise parties Good luck!

gotta go, baby and work calling, already spent too long on this post argh !

sam C had a phase where only co-sleeping would work (and I also did not want to do it as it scares the hell out of me!), it did get easier.(even though we have the odd night when she will wake up and end up in our bed because I'm too exhausted to try anything else. Like you I cannot sleep when we do this and always try to put her in her cot once she has fallen asleep (which wakes her up sometimes of course She's now back in her cot.
She does sometimes do what you say, falls asleep ok-ish (after a struggle) and then wakes up a few minutes later and we've got to do it all over again.
I usually sing and shushh to her for ages (through the cyring), put my hands over her face (err, obviously not on her nose ) She seems to like the closeness or the smell maybe, if that doesn't work I check her nappy, the room temperature, her temperature, if it's suspected teething I give her some teething powder, or half a dose of calpol if it's spectacularly bad (only done that 3 times so far)- the sugar free version btw as I was told the other one can make them hyper.
I also put her in a sleeping bag and put a blanket tucked in very tight across her from her belly down so her legs don't move. She just will not let me cover her arms so she ends up flapping a lot!!.
Sometimes none of this works and I hand her over to dh for a while if he happens to be working until late in our home-office.

gotta go for now,

the sleet has actually cleared the snow off our road a little bit where cars have driven!

bigcar · 13/01/2010 14:03

afternoon all

lovely weather we're having eh?! The kids are off today again, not because school was closed but because the traffic wasn't moving outside the house and we no longer live within walking distance of the school. I thought if it cleared I'd take them in but it was gone 11 before the road cleared so I didn't see the point, especially as it was still snowing.

gauchita, in my ignorance I have to ask, is that like a cowboy sort of thing? Have a look here for some signs, although this site signs milk the bsl way, most babies do the opening and closing fist that june describes.

snow, another csi fan here, I'm also watching the new NY one on saturday and looking forward to the new NCIS, I think that starts tonight. Obviously I need to get out more Dd1s interview went well, she got an offer yesterday, they want 3 Cs from her which is lower than her predicted grades so smiley faces all round here

MrsMcJnr, nice to see you back Wow, so many teeth, despite being an early starter E still only has the 2 teeth E is also not a veg fan although I'm starting to think it's a texture thing rather than a flavour thing, he's not overly keen on the blw approach yet. Hope you manage to get things sorted at home while dh and ds are away!

daisy, great routine there E also gets stuck under the sofa but that is happening a lot less now as he is doing a cross between commando and proper crawling so tends to go the direct route to what he wants. He's actually pretty quick now and very determined, he got up a step yesterday!

june, I think you made a good point about reminding everyone about babyproofing. Tbh I think around now is when babies are at one of their dangerous stages, they have no fear and no knowledge. So ladies now is the time to be thinking about stairgates, socket covers and where you put your hot cuppa down! Well done to C for her first sign, her first certificate too, lovely Our council seem to have run out of grit too, dh got to work ok but it's the coming home once it's got dark and everything freezes that bothers me. We live on a fairly busy main road, no sign of a gritter, but then that's about right for our council, they'll probably do it in august to get ahead for next winter

snow, sorry to hear you're snowed in again, hope your bed makes it through! I thought the same when I read HMS Diamond, sounds a bit girly My guess would be that if you want to cut or drill anything really hard you get diamond tipped bits or cutters cos they is well ard innit, and that would be more to do with choosing the name? I think you can watch the new CSI on demand five, strangely you have to pay to watch some of their stuff online, don't really get that. I'm with you on the co sleeping, not something I like at all, we did it with E a couple of nights ago as like L he would go to sleep but wouldn't be put down and we really needed some sleep, last night was slightly better so we got him in his cot. I can promise you that you will get a decent nights sleep again, I just hope it's sooner rather than later

had a major disaster at the weekend, was blitzing the ironing pile and my iron died so I had to send dh out for a new one, good job there were a few left in the sales! So I have finally caught up with the ironing, I am one seriously sad happy lady Now, all I need is for noone to wear anything and all will be well with the world

it was great to hear all was ok in the end for stellamel and her snowbaby, lots of people keep a newspaper for the day their dcs were born, but to actually get a mention in the paper, that's one hell of a birth story!

must dash, dcs are obviously trying to kill each other playing angelically while I'm sat here ignoring them mning, waves to all

Gauchita · 13/01/2010 17:20

Hello Lovely Juners!

Great to see so much action on the thread Catching up now!

Bigcar, our ironing lover Glad to know any disaster was averted and the world is a safe place again Ohh yay for your DD!! SHe must be over the moon things are going so well! Thanks for that link, I shall have a look at it and June's as well I can only imagine how hyper your house must feel now with all the DC trapped inside Oh, and yes, Gauchos can be described loosely as the equivalent of cowboys

June, thanks for the link how sweet that C got a certificate for her first sign!! I also use some shushing and face stroking, sometimes it works for her...

Strawberry, so sorry to hear you;re snowed in again! Over here we've had some really bothersome drizzle aaaaal day but there's more snow coming apparently It does get better, we're not completely there yet but it's better than before, overall...

Daisy, thank you for sharing your routine, I think I'm going to try some of those things you mention as they make lots of sense.

Mrsmc, I hop A gives your some hours to rest tonight. THe safe place for A sounds like a good idea, these LOs can be so quick, can't they? I'm sure the trip to Scotland will be good for your DH, he'll get to catch up with friends, etc. Fingers crossed for A to be an angel and give you lots of time to do everythiing you need to do

Snow, I used to be addicted to CSI. Now I feel like I'm recording everything THen I try to catch up Oh, I'm on the first book but I'm devouring it!

Skies, we've tried fish here. We first tried cod but M didn't like it, I think it was the strong smell now we've tried cobbler and she looooved it (almost no smell). I try to give her fish at least 3 times a week as that's the only "meat" she has. The party sounds fun! I'm sure he'll love it! Ohh yes, the islands are vvvvvvv cold, and all year round! They're right at the very end of Argentina (I guess you know that because of the conflict between the two countries in the 80s ) Bless him, he'll have to leave the tanning for later

Wow this was long!

Hello to all Juners! I'm taking note of all the different recipes you mention here as I need ideas! I'm not good at thinking about new things to cook I'll try them all!

When did these LOs start moving so much? (I think I asked that already, ignore my rant) Jeeeeez, M appears anywhere and everywhere as soon as I turn around! I can't even sit her on the sofa without watching her like a hawk as she fell the other day I turned around for one mini mini second and I got to grab her from one leg when I turned back so fortunately she didn't hit her head too hard.

Definitely time to start baby proofing the flat. Oh! and yesterday I lost one of the little balls from one of my piercings and I KNEW if anywone was going to find it it was M so I looked frantically everywhere to no avail. After a while I could hear her vvvv quiet and I knew she was up to something, I picked her up and "plim" goes the little ball Bad bad mummy

Aaaanyway, we're going to have her weighed this evening. It'll be the first ime in 12 days that we go out

Got to go, dinner calling!!!!

Waves!!!

Tee2072 · 13/01/2010 18:04

Hi All!

june sent me a FB note saying, get your butt over here (only much nicer than that!). So here I am!

Adam was 7 months this past Monday. At last weigh he was nearly 19 pounds and he's about 27 inches! My good big boy! He's not very physical, showing no interest in rolling, although he would give anything to be able to sit up! He is, however, very verbal. He's already babbling consonants as well as vowels and DH and I both swear he has said 'Hi!' more than once!

Those of you who remember The Lump, he had an MRI for it on 16th December and we see the paediatric surgeon on Monday to find out if they know what it is and what they want to do about it.

I think I saw something in the thread bout H1N1 vacs? Yes? Adam hasn't had his yet, but once it is offered he will have it. H1N1 vac is, in reality, the regular Flu Vac adapted for H1N1. There is no danger here. Really, there isn't. Well, unless you are allergic to eggs, but that's true for most vacs, not just the H1N1. In fact, it is most probably that next years regular flu vac will have H1N1 built into it and you'll get it without even realizing it.

Off to cook dinner, I'll try to read more later!
