Here it is, Juners! New thread!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
bunnymother · 04/01/2010 13:53

Oh dear, so far behind - you have all been up to so much and I am lost in the thread!!

Skillbo and daisy - congratulations on your upcoming weddings!! I found an Excel spreadsheet to be my life saver. DH thought it ridiculous, I found it v comforting! How exciting to have weddings to plan - such fun and such a special time when you are engaged with this magical day to look forward to!

Naat - sorry to hear of colds at the Argies' house, and that one of your bosoms was giving you grief. Not fair! But hope you are all better now...

Lady formerly known as WorriedAmy? - sounds like you will have quite the job convincing your DP to have lots of babies, but good luck! I am a bit sad about squishing the baby years so close together, but at some point I have to go back to work so want to maximise the time I have w both/all my babies .

Who else is trying but no period yet? Memory giving in... I haven't had mine and no idea about my cycle, but just giving it a red hot go and see what happens. Am STILL trying to lose the last 5 kgs (firmly parked around my middle, just like Santa) so hope I don't fall pregnant and just get progressively bigger. Would be nice to think the cross trainer I am huffing and puffing on most days will shift some of the mummy tummy before I get the pregnant tummy again!!

Have to run, MUCH cleaning to do before darling Delie wakes...

FWIW Delie doesn't reach out for me, either, and only sits unaided for short periods of time. Although is rolling over multiple times to get off the playmat and into other bits of the living room. About to google "playpens"...

Have lovely days you lovely Juners!!

daisy5 · 04/01/2010 14:14

whenskies - is it your birthday today - Happy Bday. Mine is tomorrow.

naat - thank you. Maybe we should celebrate the whole week and not just on the day! Glad to hear M moving was fine. It is hard isn't it. F has been next door (just 2 metres away actually) since 3 months but there is a makeshift bed in his room that I use when he is unsettled. He woke at 6am this morning which gave me a nice excuse to cuddle up with him and snooze until 7!

I will do a roll call but next week once I am back on top of all the stuff I have to do this week.

strawberrysam - I read your posting so fast I missed the bit on PND. Oh dear, poor you honey. It can be quite isolating.....how much sleep are you getting? Have you had depression beforehand or is this new? Are the doctors helping at all? Have you any support?

F has really gone off being spoon fed since I let him have finger food so I think I don't have much choice but to just keep giving him more and more finger food - including mabe apple and cinnemon muffins - that sounds delicious naat. Maybe pancakes at breakfast and supposedly mini shreddies are good, softenened in milk. I am just tired of him spitting food back at me and laughing and the meal taking 45minutes. He does eventually give in and eat it all (mostly) but you can tell he would prefer to do it all by himself. whenskies - I haven't tried giving him the spoon properly yet, but think I will in a week or two. I let him suck on a spoon and occasionally sneak some food onto it, but he doesn't have the coordination yet to feed himself with a spoon.

Better go and do some expressing! I am on the verge of giving up breastfeeding, but can't quite bring myself to do it. He has first feed from breasts and an expressed bottle at 2.30 but 6.30 and 10pm are formula.

Naat · 05/01/2010 10:19

Hi all!
Vvvvvv busy with work plus this cold is driving me insane (I'm such a bad patient) BUT I wanted to say

Happy birthday DAISY!!!

Hope you have a lovely day with the LOs and DP

Back later!!!

snowwombat · 05/01/2010 11:13

you've been busy girls! lots to catch up on!
daisy Happy Birthday! Hope you have a lovely day. We now own the activity triangle too, thank you for such a great toy suggestion. As to BLW and porridge etc- alot of the time I spoon it into A. He gets frustrated if the food isnt coming fast enough. I also load the spoon and help with with it to his mouth. He is good at the transport of the spoon to mouth but then struggles to get the food off because he can't angle the spoon very well. I have a camping groundsheet underneath his high chair to deal with some of the debris

naat Hope you are feeling better soon. Great that M went into her own room so easily. A's cot arrives friday. Think we might get him used to that and then change rooms.

skies Did you have a lovely birthday? I would try not to worry about C's development. There is a huge variation within normal devleopment- some babies sit at 5 months, some at 9. 6 month old babies do some strange things- A constantly watches his hands opening and closing, and loves pullling things over his head. He was sitting for 10-20secs for a few weeks before he got it together. If you are worried, have a chat to your HV or GP.

skillbo great that J's tummy is better. Hope you enjoying your last week of mat leave. Who is going to look after J? We looking at childcare options here as no family nearby. Tough to know whether to use a childminder or a nursery

strawberry lovely to hear from you. sorry that things are so hard. Do you have some good RL support in place?

bunny the control freaks here had an excel spreadsheet too for organising our weddings

june hoping the midweek impositions visits do cease so you get some time to yourselves

Snowed a little here yesterday but none today. DH on a 36hr shift so looking forward to seeing him tonight.
hope you are all well. Hi to everyone, would be lovely to see some of the old juners

bigcar · 05/01/2010 12:31

happy birthday to daisy and skies

skies, oops sorry, I have not 1 ounce of musical talent and obviously have no idea of the hierarchy of these things DD is off to Canterbury, not far but still £30!

hope everyone's well, having keyboard problems again, hence short post!

waves to all

whenskiesaregrey · 05/01/2010 14:56

Hi everyone, loooooads of snow here today! Hopefully DP might be getting home early!

lol Bigcar ooooh yes, its all very Phoenix Nights, I make fun of DP about it all the time (when I really shouldn't)! Pub singer is sooo second rate y'know !! Personally I don't know the difference myself, but aparently there is a difference!

Get well soon Naat take it easy!!

Happy Birthday Daisy

snowwombat have you seen how quickly the 'lose two stone' thread is going?! I can't keep up!!

bunny I'm loving being call 'The Lady Formerly Know As WorriedAmy' lol, it makes me sound very grand!! Fingers crossed with the TTC xx

Can I just ask, you know how you can use cows milk in cooking after 6 months... well do you need to boil it? Because surely its not going to be sterile? My mum was a bit shocked when I told her that he could start having Weetabix with cows milk now he is 6 months. So I haven't given him any yet because I was unsure?? And what about cheese and eggs? My dad is allergic to eggs, so I don't know whether to avoid them? And I know you should avoid soft cheeses, but I'm assuming this doesn't include dairylea and philli, like in pregnancy? I was going to put some on a bit of toast for Caelan, but didn't know whether I could??

strawberry So sorry you're having pnd Are you still taking the same pill by the way? (the one that thread was linking to pnd).
re: waking up at night, could it be teething? I gave C. some calpol the other day because nothing else would settle her and she was chewing and dribbling on whatever crossed her path.
I think a few here have tried giving solids to get better nights but it does not seem to work.

C. woke up in the middle of the night and wouldn't stop crying, totally out of the blue, I gave her milk and co-slept as dh needed to get up v. early for work this morning and needed his sleep. This seemed to work but was quite stressful and I'm knackered, can't imagine having that happen every 15 minutes most night

re weaning: how often do your babies feed per day and how much solid/milk do you give them? bit confused at the moment.
Are they "supposed" to be on 4 meals, 3 of which are made up with solids?

swine flu: are you getting the lo vaccinated?
we missed C's jab before xmas and now she is booked in for 8th but I'm not sure anymore.

daisy5 · 05/01/2010 21:40

Thank you everyone. I have had a fantastic birthday. I love snow and woke up to tonnes of it. We had eggs benedict for breakfast, I was totally spoilt with presents, we built a snow 'lion' in our front yard - quite large too. We had a lovely lazy afternoon and I went for a stroll with DD. I drank a v strong g & t while putting F to bed. Dinner was steak and peppercorn sauce, with delicious rosemary potato wedges accompanied by bubbly. Now off to watch the first ever Gavin & Stacey in bed. Fab day.

lol d5

whenskiesaregrey · 05/01/2010 22:04

That sounds like a lovely day daisy! june Caelan is having 3 meals for the first time this week. We were taking it slowly with him only turning 6 months this week. So our day inc. meals goes something like this... Wake up about 6-7, have a milk feed, then go back to sleep until about half 9. At 10 have a milk feed. Have breakfast of toast and fruit about 11am. Go down for a nap about half 12. Between 2-3 have a milk feed and some veg. Half 4ish go down for another nap. 6-7pm have a milk feed and some solids. Half 9ish-10pm have a milk feed and go to bed. So in that we are having 3 'solid' meals, and 5-6 milk feeds. HTH?

whenskiesaregrey · 05/01/2010 22:09

oh and re: swine flu jab- I don't think Caelan is classed as high risk? We've not heard anything anyway, but really undecided if we did have an appointment!

snowwombat · 06/01/2010 08:13

quick post, just sorting A's breakfast.

skies milk is fine for cereal and in cooking. you don't need to boil it. Only use full fat milk/cheese etc.

As to eggs, if your dad is allergic, I think the professional advice is to wait until 12 months when there is a strong family history of allergies. Worth chatting with GP. Hope that helps

daisy your birthday sounds gorgeous.
Snowed in here today- what a shame DH can walk to work!

June2009 · 06/01/2010 09:33

skies the GPs are calling all children from 6 months to 5yo to be vaccinated.(here anyway, not sure whether this is a national thing)

Is everybody snowed in? C is fascinated :D

bigcar · 06/01/2010 11:20

morning all

skies, I can't keep up with whether milk is ok or not, I think it currently is! You could always use follow on milk or normal formula on cereal or even express milk if you didn't want to use cows milk. As snow said, I would be avoiding eggs for a while yet.

strawberry, yay for feeling a little better Have you started a thread in sleep, I can't think of anything other than cc but I know it's not for you I'm sure the psych team will see L is very well looked after, please don't worry.

june, E is having 2 solid meals a day at the moment and about 6 bf although a couple of the milk feeds are shorter than they used to be. E won't eat 3 meals yet, just not that interested, happily has 2, he's putting weight on, plenty of wet and dirty nappies and happy in himself so I'm not worried. They are not offering swine flu jabs for los here yet but I think when they do I will probably go for it, will see when it comes to it!

daisy, sounds like a lovely day there

it's certainly snowing here! Most of the local schools are shut, so the kids are home, apart from dd1 who is on her way to Canterbury, apparently it's not too bad there. We're not snowed in, the road isn't too bad outside, just a bit slow, dh got into work without too much trouble at 5.30 this morning but it's supposed to get worse. E keeps looking at the snow through the window, don't think he can figure it out! His chest is still a bit wheezy so I'm not taking him out in it, we've managed to lower the dose of his inhaler a little and he's actually eaten some veg!!!! Ok it took an Ellas kitchen pouch thing that also had fruit in but it's a start. Es skin has really dried out on his legs, so fingers crossed he's not going to get the exzema that also runs in the family.

I stupidly let dh take dd3 to get her new impressions done yesterday so she can have new moulds for her hearing aids, they're whistling a lot at the moment as she's grown. I asked him to say she wanted the dark pink glittery ones (they come in all colours and patterns) but he ordered red, arghh. I have nothing against red, just her aids are pink as are her glasses so think it may look a little odd, I suppose I just ought to be grateful he didn't get the lfc crest in them, we'll see what they are like when they turn up!

hope you're all in the warm waves to all

Naat · 06/01/2010 11:29

Hi all!

June, we haven't received a letter from the surgery yet re. swine flu jab so haven't discussed it too much, although DH is not convinced at all by it. I read your post and it seems like we had a very similar night last night M went to bed quite late, at 9, slept until 3 and then would not settle, she'd wake up every five mins crying I had stayed up working until 12.30 (I know for some that time is not too late but I usually pass out at 10-10.30 so I was exhausted!) so I ended up taking her to our bed and co-sleeping Oh, our food routine is more or less like this: wake up at 6-6.30, milk + nap until 8, breakfast at 9, milk at 10-10.30 + nap, lunch at 11.30-12, fruit, baby porridge or yog at 2, milk + nap at 3.30-4, dinner at 5.30-6, milk at 7 and BED! Of course it's not set in stone, it varies more or less, and if we're out and about it varies a lot

Skies, hi! No idea about the egg thing but I see other Juners know a bit more about that. I cook things for M with milk, must try wheatabix!!

Daisy, your birthday sounds absolutely lovely! Glad you had a great time.

Strawberry, so sorry to hear you're still getting vvvv little sleep. June might be right, it could be teething, have you tried any gels or calpol? M is exactly the same, during the day DH can hold her, make her sleep, etc, but if at night he tries to do the same she SCREAMS madly DH sometimes tries holding her anyway to "give her some time" but of course it doesn't work and I end up having to settle a screaming and upset M, so I know what you mean.

Snow, oh thanks for those tea and biscuits Believe me, yesterday I really needed them, I had temperature on and off all day. It wasn't the best time to have some work coming in, but what can you do!? Your idea of getting A used to the cot itself first, at least for a few nights, is a very good one, I think... it might make the move easier I don't know what happened to M last night, she seemed to be having bad dreams, God knows... Poor your DH on a 36h shift! That sounds exhausting!

Bigcar, hi! Keyboard acting up, huh? I have a sticky square bracket which makes the emoticon insertion a bit tricky sometimes Hope you can post soon Hope everything goes/went great for your DD at the interview!

Hello to all Juners!

Right, snow is a mess up here! Yesterday it snowed from 7 till 4pm non-stop! DH was to work from home as they didn't know how bad things would get (there were very few at the office anyway ).

My cold was bad yesterday... I ended up working until really late, as I said before and I'm a bit zombie-ish now I'm better today, hope it all goes away by tomorrow

This thing of M not settling with DH at night has caused some trouble in the last few nights, which, I think (but could be wrong) is the reason why she's waking up crying every time she wakes up (she almost never did in the past). It all started because DH said that it'd be better if she could go to sleep with either of us... so if I had to work I wouldn't have to stop to put her in bed, etc... BUT, it doesn't work, she gets really worked up, cries and ends up really upset Any advice? Is this necessary? Is it bad that she wants to go to sleep only with me?

Waves to all!!!

Naat · 06/01/2010 11:33

Bigcar, x post! Oh Ella's kitchen broccoli is the only broccoli M accepts at the moment a bit reluctantly though All DHs are the same then? Mine would have done EXACTLY the same.

bigcar · 06/01/2010 11:57

naat, haha, yes they must be! My home cooking obviously just doesn't cut it, oh well, will keep trying I had keyboard problems a while back so got a wireless keyboard and mouse which is great but ds1 leant on the thing that plugs into the usb port and snapped it so I had to go buy a new one, I wasn't a happy bunny, it's so slow using the on screen keyboard. But it's all sorted now thankfully

Anyone else watching stellamels birth thread on childbirth? I'm hooked waiting for an update, she had mountain rescue taking the midwife out to her homebirth as she was completely snowed in! Hope it's all going well for her.

Hi all

Just a quickie as I have tonnes to do - I make F pasta, cheese sauce and broccoli, and he likes that. A good way to sneak in the broccoli (I puree it still).

strawberrysam - out of interest, what is Lizzie's daytime sleep/eat routine? Is she knackered after being awake so much during the night? I love dramatic weather so hope it's a lovely blizzard and you have some good supplies of food. Our shops are cleared - panic buying I suppose. I haven't driven since 21 December!! Have been walking everywhere or DH goes out - he has 4WD function on his car.

naat - 2 things occur to me. Firstly, try a slow transition i.e. dh feeds her first half of bottle then hands over to you for 2 or 3 nights, then try him feeding the whole bottle but handing over to you to settle her and once she is happy with that then get him to give her the whole bottle and calm her. If you took it gradually she might get used to it. OR my friend swears that every change to a babies routine takes 3 days and by the 4th day (or night in this case) it works like clockwork. Personally I would try the first approach first.

june - my swine flu vaccine opinions are probably a little more cynical than many others.

whenskies - I love your Mediterranean schedule. I'm stuck in a 7 - 7 due to having DD who goes to nursery at 9.

lol strawberrysam and daisy- I'm reeeeeally not a morning person, so I don't mind Caelan staying up a bit later at night and sleeping in a bit later!! And as DP doesnt usually get home 'til 7, it means he can have a bit of time with Caelan before he goes to bed. My mum thinks its 'cruel' though, and he should be going to be earlier. He is still getting the same amount of sleep though, so I don't agree.

Naat are you feeling better now? Are you still taking the ABs for your lump? This snow is a pain isnt it, I'm sick of not going anywhere!

Bigcar how did dd1's interview go?

re: brocolli, I steam it, I don't know if you are doing the same? It seems to make it a bit less bland I find? Sorry if you are already doing this?! Have you tried mixing it with cauliflower or potato??

June I don't think I will take Caelan for the jab if it comes to that. I know a lot of people have gone for it, and I respect that, but I don't know myself.

I am knackered today!!! Finally ventured out in the snow to get Caelan weighed... he is 15lb 6ozs. So about 1 and a half lbs of doubling his weight did all your LOs double their weight? What did you LOs weigh at 6 months?? I have a feeling my little man is going to be on the front row for all his school photos, like his mum was!!

whenskiesaregrey · 07/01/2010 20:07

strawberry Caelan was 14lb 8ozs on the 10th of Dec, so looks like Lizzie is a similar size, although a teensy bit bigger! We've tried doing the bathroom scales thing too! Although it said Caelan was about 13lb, which was a bit worrying!! Oh and I am yet to hear a tale of a midwide actually correctly predicting the size of a baby!! Caelan was going to be a small baby, because I was measuring about 4 weeks behind all the way through pregnancy, and was even sent for growth scans, and he ended up being 8lb 6.5ozs! Hope your feeling ok today?

June2009 · 07/01/2010 20:44

skies thanks, I just don't seem to find anyone who has had it done on their 6 months old baby and I would really like some feedback about side effects.
I download the offical weekly vaccine report and it feels fairly safe but you don't really know how accurately the reporting was done in the first place so its tomorrow and I'm stil not decided so I think I may call them tomorrow and postpone it.

whenskiesaregrey · 07/01/2010 20:54

June I would definetly look at the sources for the research that go into that weekly vaccine report. TBH my opinion isnt really strong either way, but my mum is a children's nurse, and she said a lot of the consultants have expressed concerns about the amount of research that has gone into the vaccine. Like I said though, I dont have very strong opinions either way, and certainly wouldn't argue with anyone that did want to get the vaccine!
