DD is great, still doesn't get the nap idea in the day, has to cry about it and then only half an hour at best!! She does sleep well at night though, goes off herself without too much fuss, generally 8ish to 5ish so mustn't grumble. Hoping to get her in her own room soon, well when dp gets round to to sorting it out!! Be about 18 when that happens! Since she's been able to roll over she likes to sleep on her front. Does anyone elses ds/dd do that? Is it safe? Am i winding myself up about nothing?

Nik72 · 28/07/2005 20:15

Hi & welcome to the new mums!
Glad the scan was Ok Tipex & fingers crossed for lots of sleep. Dd started to sleep through as soon as she went into her own room, I'm sure we were keeping each other awake! She normally naps for about an hour to hour & a half in the morning then less long in the afternoon, she gets SO grumpy if she hasn't had enough sleep that I've started taking her out int he pram at 4pm if she starts to grisle as it's soothes her to sleep again.

I'm sure I've read it's fine for them to be on their from once they're strong enough to roll. I've found DD sleeping curled up on her side a few times with her thumb in her mouth, soooo cute but she's only just started rolling over.

Don't know where summer's gone, it's freezing. Have put the central heating on & it's back to high tog grobags!

starlover · 29/07/2005 10:37

wow! so much to catch up on!

welcome to spoo and pjsmum! hope you're enjoying your lo's as much as we all are

TIPEX! That's fantastic news! so glad that it's all ok. and sleeping through nearly as well! i have to say linus was better in his own room too! hope it lasts for you.

Linus is also wanting entertaining a lot. In fact, i am finding him harder work now than in the first few weeks because i can't get anything done! i sit him on the floor surrounded by cushions with toys and the tv on and he's ok for a little while. or if i am in the kitchen doing stuff i'll sit him in his highchair with something to nibble on!

pjsmum... linus also sleeps on his front a lot now. i don't worry too much as there is nothing i can do about it really. Interestingly I used to put him on his side to sleep when he was tiny as it helped his breathing. And now he ALWAYS rolls onto his side when he goes to bed... (i also sleep on my side)... coincidence or not? i'm not sure!

we're looking forward to having alot more variety of foods now he's almost 6 months. yesterday i let him have a little piece of bread and butter which he gobbled up!

jolly4 linus also likes melon to chew on! just a word of warning though... be careful with the marmite as it's full of salt!
you sound like you're doing better than you were a while ago (in yourself i mean). it must be hard having katy in nursery... or is it nice to have a break? when are you going back to work?

i am SOOOOOOO jealous of everyone who is going away! we must sort something out soon as well. Will probably be back down to devon to visit dp's parents. it's lovely down there but i wish we could stay in a hotel... it all gets a bit much living with them for a week!!!

Tippex - I agree - I hate the whole weaning thing and I am started to get quite stressed about it. At least you have a 'little bird' as you call your DS. IN terms of timing I am keeping to the same hours for milk feeding and am giving him breakfast, lunch and dinner at around 9,1 and 5, trying to coincide with my breakfast and lunch so he gets the whole sociability thing as well.

roosmum · 31/07/2005 12:27

tipex, just a quick one as at my mum's...

...but yep i'm clueless too, roo is 6mths on tuesday & yet his eating is pretty random, on both his & my part i think. sometimes he wants food, sometimes not, sometimes i feed him at lunchtime, sometimes dinnertime, sometimes both.....sometimes he eats, sometimes not.

aargh!

just dunno really, i usually try & give him some milk first & then see whether he'll eat some food afterwards. i'm not too worried about it all tho, he's huge & healthy, so i guess something's working out. he ate some banana & peach at breakfast this am, & then a baby ricecake. will try some more (mashed avocado prob) later.

help! like you tipex, i just can't seem to get it cracked at all (at least your LO is sitting with open mouth at foodtime, roo sometimes doesn't even do that!).

Hi Tipex, i don't know whether i'm doing this right but Polly doesn't seem to have had any ill effects yet! I started by offering her her bottle, then in the middle giving some it offering her some food ( baby rice to start) then finished with her bottle. She now has 2 meals a day, breakfast and dinner. She's just starting to take pretty much all her bottle first and not wanting any after her food. I did it this way because i felt that she would at least get her milks feeds, which i think is more important than food. Its still very sporadic as to whether she eats or not. Some days its loads others she really not interested in it. I was always told just go with what your baby is telling you not what books/ others say. In relation to what food Polly is having a breakfast cereal packet mix in the am and mashed veggies of some sort in the pm. As for quantity however much she wants! I don't know if this helps but i hope you're not getting too stressed about it all. I doubt that you're DS is!

W0MBAT · 01/08/2005 11:22

I am sorry I haven't posted fo a while. I am a bit sporadic too.

Hope you and babies are all well. My dd is very very noisy (won't stop babbling) and so much fun. Yesterday, I played a game where I put her in her buggy at the bottom of the stairs, and gradually walked up the stairs throwing a soft ball at her every time I walked up another step. She was in hysterics!!

Just been reading about the weaning and I am finding it very challenging too. My dd doesn't seem at all interested and spits most of it out. Frustrating as she has just started to wake up in the night again, obviously wanting something more than milk. Might try banana today.

Hazellnut · 02/08/2005 12:37

Hi All !!! I am back in the land of the computer owner so can write a proper message without having to hurry before dh catches me looking at mumsnet on his work laptop !!

Hello to all the new people ! glad to hear all about your dds and dss. Hasn't the last 6 months gone by in a flash ? DD is now over 6 months, as she was actually born in January.

Tipex, pleased to hear the sleeping is improving and that the scan went well. Jolly4 pleased to hear things are getting better.

As for the weaning issues, here's what we've done. Althought tbh dd has loved solid food and I now have issues making sure she gets enough milk as she is not really interested in milk.

When we started, I fitted it it to normal milk feeds, first at about 11 ish then added another about 5 or so and then once we got onto three meals a day I do a bottle at waking time, breakfast (porridge) at 8.30/9 ish, bottle 11.30 ish, lunch 1 ish (savoury followed by pudding), bottle 3.30 ish, dinner about 5.30 (savoury and pudding) and a bottle about bed time. My little monster eats like a little piggy (in fact about the same amount, if nto more, than her 1 year old cousin - oops). I have started increasing the range of foods since she hit 6 months and is having lumpier stuff.

Our latest issues are teething I think (dd is VERY GRUMPY) and the last two nights has taken hours (literally) to settle at night when she used to fall asleep on the bottle. Am hoping its all linked the poor thing. Also day time sleeping, which was never good, has gone completely to pot as she jsut moves around the cot and gets upset..... What does Gina Ford think she's talking about ??? I keep reminding myself that she's never had children of her own !!

Righty ho, better go before the mn addiction kicks in again, I think I have done really well since being out of action..... even managed to find the real world !! Didn't get anymore house work done though !!

Wombat, talking of hysterics, I was doing 'heads and shoulders, knees and toes, to dd at the weekend and she was laughing so hard dh came down from upstairs to see what was so funny.... its sooooo sweet....

Tipex - how is it going?

Let me know when you've figured it out, and then I'll start ds on solids . Or maybe I'll wait until he crawls to the fridge and helps himself. I can't remember what I did with dd, except that I got v stressed about what and how much she ate.

pjsmum · 05/08/2005 08:14

Hi everyone, hope you are all well and you're little ones. Polly got two teeth through this week, i thought it was sick so kept trying to wipe her mouth! How rubbbish am i! Do i need to start cleaning her teeth now? And should i give her more lumpy food or finger food to chew on? I haven't a clue and trying to get hold of hv is like looking for a needle in a haystack!! Anyone any ideas please.

Tipex!!! Accordong to my SIL they get even worse when they start meat!
Have taken the plunge too & started baby rice as I reckoned it'd be better if I've started the process before I go back to work & she goes to nursery.
Who else is going back to work? Am sort of looking forward to it ans sort of not, it'll mean the end of my summer with my first baby but I'm kind of looking foreard to getting my professional identity back. If I'm brutally honest it'll be nice to have someone else to look after her for a few days a week though I feel a bit of a Bad Mummy for saying so!

fruitful · 05/08/2005 19:57

pjsmum - you can just rub the tooth with a damp cloth (bit of muslin). Or you can buy a baby toothbrush just to get her used to having it in her mouth.

Tipex - what goes in tends to come out (we need a bleargh icon). Watch out for when you've fed him something red, like lots of tomatoes - seeing red in a nappy can be scary. And I used to wonder why I bothered feeding dd sweetcorn, since she never digested any...

jolly4 · 05/08/2005 22:15

Hi all. I'm glad I've found you all as weaning is in full-swing here. I am still BF and I started my first AF since delivery two days ago. The thing is it was just for one day and was extremely light. A mixture of old brownish blood (sorry!) and pinky/red, but a tiny amount. Have any of you resumed AF and if so was your first one as light as this?

Wotcha Tipex I was surprised that AF had showed up as Elijah is still having five feeds a day on average, including a night feed. Surprised, until I read that, ahem, larger ladies. ie. Me with larger fat reserves can produce enough Oestrogen to resume AF even before they've stopped BF. I'm pleased about it anyway as we want to conceive again as quickly as possible (I'm getting on a bit and don't want to risk leaving it till next year.)
