LaTrucha · 02/12/2009 20:36

I still ike my Christmas name from last year. Might keep it.....

simpson · 02/12/2009 20:46

JKS - it took a few wks with bike and it was a huge hit after a neighbours child (he was 4) went on it and "showed" J how to use it iyswim.

Now he loves it. I have got him a "normal" bike for Xmas, but think he may still want balence bike as he can zip up and down by himself.

LaT - how would you feel if cereal went?? Could you substitute with banana??

M normally very good eater but today I put her tea in front of her (grilled pork, potatoes & veg) and straight away "jelly" was her demand

But I was tough and told her she had to eat carrots first (not all, just token amount) and because she knew I meant business she did, which I think shocked me more

But I am tough with food tbh. Although M still has bottle before bed so not totally empty tummy if she refuses her tea iyswim.

Ange - hope dog and A situation resolved soon..

madmouse · 02/12/2009 21:09

LaT no - when he refused his lunch she refused to give him his yogurt and at 3pm he was starving and ate all his lunch - and once I did the same 2 days running he ate what he was given at the normal time.

JKS that is nice xmas name too.

Simps does M still have normal bottle ? Just that M won't give hers up at all. Think she has slight comfort addiction she has dummy , blanket (any blanket as long as it's cellular) and bottle. Tried to wean her onto beaker type bottles etc no chance!!

AngeChica · 02/12/2009 21:51

Thanks folks. I will try that for sure.

At the moment even a 34 lb monster like A is fussing over foods previously eaten without fuss, or eaten one day and turned up nose at the next.

If refuses tea completely, I will give him supper of ready brek or rice pudding for supper though.

He is 50-50 about bedtime milk which he will have from a cup if not too tired but if he has gotten very tired I will still give him a bottle.

DH got deputy head job interview tomorrow. Tenterhooks!

simpson · 02/12/2009 22:59

Ange - fingers X for your DH tom

Lilyloo - yes M Obsessed with bottle

TBH she does have to drink 16ozs of neocate a day so reluctant to drop it totally as she won't do it from a beaker but a RL friend suggested a bottle type from Boots which has harder spout but looks like a bottle iyswim.

I may try one next week, not hopeful though.

M still has 3 bottles a day and would have more if I let her

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 03/12/2009 10:49

Simps i have similair one it is hard plastic with handle grips and harder top with spout rather than teat.
She will have juice / water in it but not milk

Think they are all finding their own little ways now , M is currently favouring the banana shape if shehas to do anything she doesn't want. Especially in the supermarket or outside school
anything to cause maximum embarrasment.

Good luck for dh today Ange.

For a cheap activity with your lo's get a large sheet of bubble wrap , me and M have had a great 20 min jumping up and down on it , came with a parcel

simpson · 03/12/2009 11:46

Does not sound like M will take to new bottle then either

Although she always says "I big girl" so might be able to play on that, big girl bottle etc

When M deos not get her own way she throws herself to floor and is very loud. Can be embarassing too

LaTrucha · 03/12/2009 14:57

Ange - I hope the dog gets some peace!

Madmouse - we have that book to, although it's currently doing the rounds of my friends with older toddlers. I must read it!

Lily - try the same thing with wrapping paper, cushions and tin foil. They keep us going for ages! MAybe not all at the same time!

JKS - I hope he gets to like his bike. A friend of mine spent a small fortune on a tractor for his boy (who lives near a farm) and he refused to touch it. He wanted the big one!

Simpson - I wouldn't worry about the bottle at all if she does drink from other things. She's not going to be sucking on it for long enough each day to do any harm, I wouldn't think. Sabela still sometimes likes me to bare a bit of my chest and put her face against it and be held, 'like a baby.' She knows it's not really for her anymore, but she does love it as a bit of fuss.

Gingeme- how's the dry nights going?

10 weeks today and my best friend has just founf out she's pg too . Pity she's 100s of miles away . Sabela is sleeping incredibly well. She's gone until 8.30 two mornings this week so I am loving it. Feeling better some days, so can't complain. Scan on the 15th! [fingers crossed]

Had to cancel my latest hearing aid appointment as I've been throwing up so violently in the mornings my ears are popping like they do on aeroplanes!

And I am a total preg head. I went out yesterday and left my back door wide open

gingeme · 03/12/2009 18:03

LaT we have given up on them for now. Edward was wet more than dry so will try again after Christmas
Don't worry about M being embaressing you will get your own back one day. Trust me
George will not drink cows milk at all. We even tried warming it but no. He will have it as a shakey shake though , milkshake that is
Lilly bubble wrap is fun isnt it
We tried to go to Davids school Christmas bazaar after school. Gave up in the end as it was jam packed We did manage to get to the cake stall though to get come ginger bread cookies to have with a cuppa

simpson · 03/12/2009 19:09

Hi all

Hope everyone is ok??

DS had his first parents evening yesterday and is doing well but is struggling being the youngest in class a bit

But teacher nice and says he will get there in his own time

Having major problems with M's poos again today

Cannot think what she has eaten??

Although last time we had relapse I took her to docs who said her stomach lining damaged and can take 2wks to recover, so maybe that is happening again as after effect from ireland...

She did hold an advent calender chocie this morning but did not eat it iyswim. Maybe it melted and she had some??

M's talking coming on leaps and bounds. Earlier today she said "I kick ball" and I thought it was J and then remembered he was at school

simpson · 03/12/2009 19:17

forgot to say I had a bit of a falling out with my house insurance people today

My builder quoted #3900 (sorry pound sign not working) for all the work that needs doing.

And insurance are haggling and want to pay #3500.

fillybuster · 04/12/2009 15:11

Simpson - do we have the same children? I'm beginning to wonder ! ds is also semi-struggling at school due to being the youngest (by miles) in the reception class...the school are being very supportive, and ds does seem perfectly happy, but I am a bit concerned. He's finding some of the fine motor stuff (like holding a pencil and writing properly) very hard and I think it might be linked to the same hypermobility issues that Tamara has. Is there anything specific with your ds?

Gingeme - father xmas visit sounds lovely! sorry about the school fete though, altho you were probably better off at home with a cuppa and !

LaT - we had a bad patch with ds when he was about 20 months and did a bit of 'hardcore' parenting with mealtimes. That included giving him a set amount of time (generally 15 minutes) to eat his meal (obviously if he was eating nicely in this time we would let him continue but if he was faffing or picking we would declare 'meal over'). And no temper tantrums were allowed at the table - he had to get down and cry in the hall if he wanted to! If he had eaten less than half it would be put in the fridge and served again for dinner/lunch the next day. And no fruit or anything else for 'dessert' if he hadn't eaten. We did realise that ds was loading-up at breakfast, so we cut that down to half the amount of cereal and half a piece of toast which helped a bit. And we did cut out night time milk entirely at this point because I wanted him to be hungry enough in the day to eat his food. It wasn't much fun for a few weeks but he did eventually get the message and start eating again - and now he eats brilliantly and tries everything. DH still thinks we were too harsh with him, and I def wouldn't serve up the same meal again 3 times the way we did, but there is something to be said for standing your ground! Good luck

Ange - basically, what MM said...sounds like Alek is just pushing his boundaries and will stop harrassing the poor dog once you get your message across.

Ugh...pg brain, have gone totally blank on everything else, sorry! Had my 12 week scan yesterday and flump was bouncing around happily, so will tell friends and family over the weekend.

Hope you all have lovely weekends xx

simpson · 04/12/2009 16:03

Filly - TBH the more I think about it the more I feel.

She did not say anything positive about DS at all!!

They are expected to use sissors perfectly, draw perfect circles and draw perfect circles with mouse on computer. All of which he struggles with

He knows the letters of the alphabet well but not connecting it with phonetic sounds iyswim.

They are supposed to count to 10 then learn 20 then 30. But backwards and in sequence of 2,4,6 etc and 1,3,5,7 etc.

I have never really thought he might struggle because of hyper mobility though. Just thought it was because he is youngest iyswim.

I might mention it to her though.

nicky6 · 04/12/2009 20:20

dont worry they all catch up in the end - my sister a primary school teacher - boys always slower than girls and that extra 9 motnhs or so to start with is massive but evens out.

glad people up for a wednesday in feb for london meet - now need to find venue

re eating charie pretty good and will tell me if too hot, spicy or sour. but went through a faze about 6 months ago demanding yoghurt at all meals which i simply ignored and told her no we dont have yoghurt for breakfast etc.

re bottles cant help as stopped charlie's bottles at 10 months. She has a glass of milk at teatime at 5.30 and then thats it til morning. Just persevere i think and keep giving cup they will get it - they are just at the stubborn age where everything is a battle.

we had 2 trips to naughty step before nursery this morning - once for smacking and once for putting hair clips in her mouth and running around - too dangerous as charlie flicks it over with her tongue dont fancy a and e.

Anyway girls am trying to do most/all of my christmas shopping on line.

Without trying to tempt fate have got charlie and noah sleeping at lunchtime at the same time woohoo.

just started weaning noah - am hoping it will help more sleep at night he is 18lb already !!!!

gingeme · 05/12/2009 19:52

Erm Simpson how old is he? He isn't as old as David is he? He is just learning up to 20 and he is in year 1! How much do they honestly expect him to do ? I can understand you being cross

LaTrucha · 05/12/2009 20:15

Thanks for the eating advice, everyone. Things getting a bit stricter and a bit better.

I've got some kind of stomach bug here, so not good on top of morning sickness.

DH managed to fit a new lock on the front door which saved us about £50, so if I wasn't feeling so rubbish, I'd be making hims something nice for tea. As it is, I've completely given up on cooking as I can;t eat anything I've prepared and he's in the supermarket buying ready meals. He is one hell of a patient man.

Can you tell me how normal this is? Sabela goes to bed really easily at 7.30 but she can be up to an hour talking and playing with her animals. She's perfectly happy. We think it's very sweet.

Simpson - has the teacher actually said something that might help you help J? If not, I would be

LaTrucha · 05/12/2009 20:33

I've just been up there and she's just lying there chatting away to herself.

Oh, what about this for a great idea. You know there's a great shortage of midwives in England? Well, we were doing alright in Wales, even though our hospital was doing about 200 more births a year than 5 years ago with 2 less staff (600 rather than 400 births). The NHS realised that Wales had more staff than England and have decided to cut our staffing BACK to the average level in England - losing 2 more midwives and there's a baby boom on! Anyone want to come and help deliver this baby in the summer?

LaTrucha · 05/12/2009 20:59

Lilyloo- official queen of bargains (she has a thread on money off/promotions)

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 05/12/2009 21:59

Lol LaT i have two up there at the min , now have two dvd's and a top for L from Gap for not more than Fiver

simpson · 05/12/2009 22:12

Gingme- think J younger than David. J was 4 in Aug.

TBH he sems ok with the counting but struggles with everything else

But he loves school so don't want it to be a big thing incase it puts him off going iyswim.

Was chatting to someone who runs M's creche she goes to on fri while I do keep fit (which is linked to school) and she is totally shocked at how hard they are being pushed now
Grrrr.

Lilyloo - what other bargaigns have you got??

LaT - the dolls house arrived acouple of days go from studio24 and it looks lovely
