G is not starting weaning yet btw she's quite happy with the boobs

FiByTheSea · 06/10/2009 13:25

ladyh those pj's sound great I'm sure our ds would love them too..

Momino · 06/10/2009 13:42

gonna do short, chop-chop (chop-chop? ) posts.

dandy, what kind of ice cream did you have in that fab-sounding creamery? am jealous as well.

ladyH, well done on the diet, takes a lot of will power to skip carbs but look to the light at the end of the tunnel...

don't come to my house, I've just made bread ! 1st time in years i've made bread (though I often make pizza dough) and found it so enjoyable that I'll probably start a habit. kneading is great for the soul.

saus, re: wedding gifts, I didn't buy my friend's gift until after the wedding but before they returned from honeymoon so I agree with dandy on not discounting them yet.

ladyhelen2 · 06/10/2009 13:43

belgian it was someone who lost twins at 23 weeks (?). I'm not quite sure what then happened but I think there was a bit of caution from some about her story. It then got into a heated debate about trolling in general and a lot of the threads got pulled. A couple are still up but the lady in question has not returned.

Just had a 90 minute battle to get R to sleep. He was so tired but just didn't realise it!

Momino · 06/10/2009 13:54

I didn't see that thread either but hope people weren't messing around on such a serious subject such as bereavement. glad I didn't see any of it.

looby, about showers, I haven't had one yet today . I guess i'll have to wait until DDs all in bed tonight. I just don't feel comfortable showering whilst toddlers are toddling.

still raining here so we've been painting this morning [smug creative-type mum emoticon]. ok so i just stood behind them squirting paint from a tube onto their paper whilst they made a huge mess with their hands. went through nearly a whole packet of wet wipes. going to try to get out this afternoon to a friend's.

Fi, we haven't started weaning yet and I think H is 21 or 22 weeks? anyone know? I've stopped counting by weeks and know she's just turned 5 months on 2nd Oct. I don't feel like starting to wean yet but do wonder if it will help her sleeping .

speaking of babies, am being summoned by Milkbreath herself.

pulapula · 06/10/2009 14:53

Only one lady turned up for my coffee morning but we had a nice chat. I will miss the coffee group when i go back to work as i will probably only have Mondays off.

I am back from taking DS2 for his first swim. The local pool just a short walk from ours has an under 5s warm water session which is lovely - just like a bath . But it costs £5 (probably costs a lot to heat the pool up) and we were only in about 10 mins so not the best value for money for us, but DS2 was very cute and calm when he wasn't screaming .

Momino- H must be 22-23 weeks as S is 21 weeks today and he was born on 12 May. Only tried baby rice once as i felt it was a bit early- I was just desperate to work out what was making him so grumpy.

sausagenmash · 06/10/2009 15:41

Dandy I'm very re your Selfridges morning!!! Get you!

Ok, ta everyone, will still serve nice bubbly at wedding! Might quickly sneak a peek to see if anything has gone.....

OH MY GOOOOOOD I'VE GOT PRESENTS!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!!!!! Vouchers and a wok!!!!!!

LadyH - where did you get those fab jimjams? Our wedding is on halloween and M is going to wear something pretty all day, but we're going to change her into jimjams 1/2way through the reception so she's comfier, and those skeleton ones sound FAB!

Re Showers - I only had mine an hour ago...

Lalalalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I have PRESENTS!!!!!

ReeBee · 06/10/2009 16:27

sophietom · 06/10/2009 16:45

Hi everyone
fi am suprised your HV suggested weaning before 6 months. All this talk of weaning on the thread and my J is only 4 months (4 months exactly today ) I honestly can't imagine him being ready for food for ages yet, we will be going down the BLW route when he is ready
Poor Jake had a trip to IKEA with me and DP yesterday we were there for hours he seemed overwhelmed by it all (although tbh i find IKEA overwhelming too!). Anyway to the point... just wanted to say thanks to whoever it was on here that said they had bought a highchair from IKEA as we have now bought one. It was supercheap and I'm very pleased with it. We tried Jake in it and he was pleased as punch and sat in there with the laptop on the tray gurgling and cooing to my mum on Skype!
pula I keep meaning to take J swimming but never get round to it- the under 5's warm water sess you went to sounds lovely

ladyhelen2 · 06/10/2009 17:11

saus Baby Gap. God, the clothes in there are soooo cute, just watch yourself when you go in. They do the skeleton ones in pink too! Go quick though as reckon they'll sell out. Fab day to have your wedding BTW. Will your first dance be Thriller? In full Zombie dress perhaps?

sophietom I need a valium before going to Ikea (not really but you get my drift!). Did you manage to get through and just buy the highchair? If so, I am impressed!

weaning I bumped into a friend just now as I was out. Her baby is two and half months older than R and we were chatting about weaning. I said I was waiting will 6 months. She raised an eyebrow and said "any reason why"? COz the bloody guidelines say so!!!

Tummum · 06/10/2009 17:14

Hello everyone. G has just gobbled up 6 strawberries, all by himself. I am very proud. They were getting a bit squishy, so I thought I would cut 'em in half and pop them on his bumbo table to see what he would do, and he picked them up and wolfed them down . What a star !

Saus at presents

Momi (notice careful spelling ) wow, you earth mother you. Painting with DC and bread making.

Pula the swimming lesson sounds lovely. I keep on meaning to take G, but just don't get around to it

Dandy of lovely baby free morning.

Fi it is a bit surprising that the HV was talking about weaning. How is the NS planning going?

Unfortunately, I did get a teeny bit involved with 'the thread' - lurking, not posting - and was quite shocked by the goings on, so have decided to stick with our lovely thread in the future.

Have a nice evening everyone.

pulapula · 06/10/2009 17:44

tummum - i've just seen your FB status about G nearly ready to crawl . That is really advanced. I know he's been rolling a while but S can't move at all yet- no rolling - he doesn't like being laid flat or on his tummy so spends most of his time sat up in a bouncy chair, bumbo or inflatable ring. He can almost sit unaided though. And what a clever boy G is for picking up and eating strawberries .

sausagenmash · 06/10/2009 18:03

LadyH - naaaah we're not having a disco... BUT we are having a party back at my parents afterwards (and M will be in bed ) and it's going to be a bit halloween'y - a friend of mine is scouring Spotify for 'horror' themed music (like The Monster Mash!) and is doing a compilation for us. Also going to have the wii up in the conservatory and will have the killing zombie game. Also a roulette wheel in the utility room for the grown ups Our music throughout the reception is all film 'incidental' music and I found some great horror ones (hehehe). Apart from that and pumpkins on the tables, and horror books as favours, its all quite sedate and weddingy! (I did want to give out trick or treat bags with sweets and fangs and fake blood as favours, but wasn't allowed.... .

Tummum - WOW G is v grown up and clever!!! My M just gurgles and chuckles. She did lick a biscuit the other day, but that was because I was holding it a bit too close to her mouth by accident....

Anyhoo. I'm off to the nearest BabyGap tomorrow. Avec la carte de credite!

.... and am now off to check the presents again!!!!!

ladyhelen2 · 06/10/2009 18:20

saus loving the sound of your wedding party! Especially the pumpkins on tables. Hope you are sucessful in le bebe gap. Am about to present DS1 with his pjs.

llareggub · 06/10/2009 18:50

sausage the wedding party sounds great. Perhaps we should all Hallowe'en namechange on the 31st in your honour?

Tummum clever little G. No sign of movement from my little G. He rolls on his side and that is it. He does grin a lot though.

pula did you enjoy your swim? I wish our baby pool was a little warmer.

Dandy your child-free morning sounds wonderful. Do you feel like you've had a holiday? The Brum Selfridges has an ice-cream concession. I wonder if it is the same one?

ladyh good luck with the diet. I'm rubbish with diets like that. I always forget and tuck into a muffin.

fi funnily enough my HV told me to start giving puree when I saw her yesterday. I took G to the baby clinic because I was concerned about his belly button. I told her that I was going to wait until he was over 6 months and could sit up confidently. He can sit momentarily but not for long.

Loob definitely take up the babysitting offer and go out.

I've had a very unproductive day today. The inlaws took B out for the day and I had lots of jobs to do around the house. But then a colleague rang from work and we chatted for ages about how we don't plan to go back there, and before I knew it, it was time to go the gym for a swim. I booked G into the creche so I was a bit nervous but he was absolutely fine. I swam my half mile in super quick (for me!) time just in case and in the end I was in and out in 40 minutes. I don't think he even noticed I'd gone!

DS1 is being quite tricky at the moment so I am going to take him out on his own on Friday for a treat. It is the first time in ages that we'll have done something alone and I am really looking forward to it. We're going to Birmingham Airport to look at the planes and he is so excited!

Anyway, better go, DS2 is starting to cry.

Trolling I've tried to stay away from those awful threads. Who knows if it is true or not, but either way it is a horrid situation. There have been quite a few incidents like that on mumsnet since I joined 3 years ago and they all seem to have established themselves very quickly as regulars and then had a series of unfortunate problems. Very upsetting for those posters who seem to get personally involved.

pulapula · 06/10/2009 19:03

Llareggub- it was nice to take DS2 swimming- he was really calm at first, but then got upset, not sure why, and usually some singing and bouncing would be enough to calm him again. But gradually he got more and more upset - we sat on the side for a bit, and went back in for a bit and chatted with a mum i know from baby group, but he had had enough so we got out. It is lovely though in the warm water but as a result the changing rooms are like a sauna as everything is run off the same boiler.

Sausage- i think its a good idea to get married on a memorable date- always easier to remember your anniversary - i always struggle to remember mine . I got married in April 2004 and really wanted the date 04.04.04 but it wasn't possible.

I'll close my eyes to all discussion of Criminal Justice. I recorded it last night and plan to watch this evening.

ladyhelen2 · 06/10/2009 19:55

dandy I did watch it. llare no spoilers purely comment on the technicalities! I was wincing at points in the police station. I suppose real life would make a dull viewing hour though. I am withholding judgment on the advice the solicitor gave to not answer questions. Either she is very intuitive and knew she was on the verge of a breakdown or very lazy as she didn't ask anything about what happened before the first interview. As for the interview without the solicitor, that prob wouldn't have happened. A lot of the time the cops want a solcitor there to "validate" the interview. It will be interesting to see how it pans out over the next few days, both from my POV as a lawyer and yes, you were right it was chilling.

DH, the joker that he is, found a tub of vaseline and put it on my pillow before we went to bed. Twunt.

runningmonkey · 06/10/2009 20:00

Evening all, hope all are well.

We also went swimming today, A is really enjoying it and even did a bit of 'underwater' swimming today without drinking the pool

ladyh am impressed with the dieting. I am rubbish at things like that, well dieting in general although I did do slimming world a few years back and lost a couple of stone. Think I might go back once I give up bf and know I can leave A in the evening.

saus your wedding plans sound fab. We'll be at my brother's in N Wales on your big day, will make sure we raise a glass to you . Am looking forward to the pics

loob hope you're having a nice evening out.

tum wow clever G. We've no interest in food here but a lot of rolling and wriggling around on tummy going on. A has worked out how to pivot on her tummy almost managed a 360 turn the other day. Ikwym re memorable dates, I wanted 08/08/08 but ended up with the 2nd instead.

The weaning advice from HV's is a bit weird. We had a talk from ours about how to wean which basically said 'the government tell you to wait until 6mo but most people start about 4' Me and a couple of the other mums were a bit like this

Can't remember who else I needed to namecheck... ooh yeah, Dandy [envy} sounds like a fab day.

Right better go check A is actually asleep! Later xx

SpangleMaker · 06/10/2009 20:06

Saus Gifts, yay

Dandy of your child free shopping trip.

Tummum clever G! H is rolling all the time and has just worked out he needs to get his knees under his bum and push his tummy up but he can't do it yet. He keeps trying then flopping down and crying with frustration. He's desparate to get moving.

Fi I'm a bit at your HV. Mind you, everyone I know in RL is weaning early, a couple of them from 17 weeks with rusks which I thought were supposed to be bad, can't remember why though - sugar? I think my NCT group think I'm a bit of a nutter doing BLW. Having said that, I thought I was myself this morning when I let H have a go at a Weetabix... why on earth did I think that was a good idea?! There is still some of it welded to his bumbo. He still can't really eat anything anyway so I could have given him something easier to clean up!

I took H to the GP this morning because after his adventures with the Weetabix he went all red and blotchy around his mouth, cheeks and shoulder. He's been looking a bit red and dry on his face for a couple of days but I'm not sure why it flared up this morning. The doc says it's probably caused by his saliva due to teething and gave me some cream. He looked much better by lunchtime but still has a couple of dry patches.

ladyhelen2 · 06/10/2009 20:06

Tis only day 2 of the diet. But have had a lovely butternut squash curry tonight. Was also v good earlier. Met a friend for coffee which would usually involve some sort of cake activity but stuck to my black de caff coffee. I will be gagging for a latte by friday. And wine. And chocolate.

sausagenmash · 06/10/2009 20:18

OOOOOOOOH someone's bought my saucepans!!!

Criminal Justice? Wassat? Have I missed the start of another fab series? Arse. Have got Flashforward on series link (yay) and also True Blood which starts tomorrow. Summat about vampires. (yes, you may have guessed it, I do like horror films!)

LadyH - re vaseline - yes indeedy, that is most twunt-like!

Llare - oooh a name change! That sounds like fun! (and btw, will email you tomoz)

Re weaning - my Mum has a mini hoard at hers of baby rice, jars etc 'ready' for M, although she keeps telling me to give her baby rice at bedtime to fill her up so she sleeps! Natch, MIL2b's babies (ie, dp and his bro) slept through at 6 weeks. 6 weeks my arse. She also told my Mum that they are a very huggy family - I've never seen that happen!!

I'm desperate to go swimming with M but for some reason I'm terrified. What are the logisitics of all the changing room malarkey? How do you get showered / dried / changed with a squiggly baby?! I mean, like, HOW?

I've missed the trolling threads. Like Belgian I tend to stick to our little cosy world these days, and only really peep at the others when I'm bored studying. I once chatted on an AIBU and left quick sharpish as I stupidly said something a little un-pc and made things worse by explaining myself. Harumph.

ladyhelen2 · 06/10/2009 20:21

saus the vaseline was his idea of a joke after watching Criminal Justice. It was a catalyst to something (sorry llare) He wouldn't in a million years actually suggest using it! Still twunt like though.

Jennster · 06/10/2009 20:22

Reception tune?
