ReeBee · 05/10/2009 15:31

Hi everyone!

Much better today thanks, in spite of Grumpy's recorder playing. I'm starting to think it was worth it... ahem, maybe not!

Ses, Saus, Belgian, and Reggiee, completely with you on the DH interpretation of childcare. There's a lot of it about... And last night I was shouted at because F had (wait for it) done a wee while DH was changing him for bedtime and he couldn't cope with cleaning him and finding a clean sleep suit on his own. I had the temerity to carry on doing what I was doing (dishwasher, turning off TV and lights, getting glasses of water for bed) rather than rushing to his assistance.

Reggiee, Barry Manilow?! I feel so much better about Meatloaf now!

F had his first full night in his cot last night. Put him down at 7pm, up at 10pm to wee on DH and for a BF. I heard him awake and a bit grumbly at 2.45 - 3.45 on and off but not crying, more of a quick whinge every 15 mins to see if anyone wanted to play with him. He woke up properly at 6.15am, hurrah. I had leaked all over my PJs, not hurrah. I hope that the night waking might just be habit. He's not hungry or distressed in any way so perhaps I've created a rod for my own back previously in being too quick to rush to him? We'll see...

Belgianchocolates · 05/10/2009 18:26

Hi everyone,

Congrats to all of you who had a good night's sleep last night. Nice to know there's light at the end of the tunnel, isn't it?

Sorry for those of you with bad naps. Just look at the positive stories of the others and know it'll get better... one day

We had a good night here, but she definitely has got into a habbit of waking for a feed at 6, while she used to go until 7-8. I don't mind really. Can't complain if that's the only time in the night she wakes And unlike saturday, she has been going back to sleep.

Our naptimes were fairly successful today too. Both of them in the cot. 1st time she went to sleep on her own. 2nd time she went to sleep on the breast, but didn't wake on transferring. She could do with longer sleeps though. 1st nap was about 1h, second nap about 45min. After the 2nd one I could tell she was still tired, but awake. So it has been a case of carrying her around after that nap. The 'no cry nap sollution' arrived today, so maybe it's already working before I even had a chance to read it . The couple of pages I did manage to read confirm that she isn't getting enough daytime sleep. Apparently a good healthy nap should last at least 1.5h. Her longest is 1h, which would explain why she gets more and more grumpy/inactive as the day goes on.

Oh and re my ds's fear of germs. I did tell him about good germs and how dd1 isn't ill so can't pass on bad germs, but he didn't seem to believe me. We'll se how he is tonight. He doesn't mind sharing his bed with the cat though

Also thanks for the b'day wished for my dh.

Other than that. Today has been quite uneventful. Ironing, eBaying and that's about it.

Oh, talking about eBay. I was today, because they took one of my items off because it was a baby swimsuit with a built in nappy. Apparently swimnappies aren't allowed. C only wore it twice on our hols and never had an accident in it. I wrote them an angry e-mail saying that a lot of people would happily buy a used swim nappy and that their rules re selling used cloth nappies are a bit stupid too. After all if it states that they've been used and you place a bid, then you're clearly happy to buy a used nappy. Gosh I was angry with them. Especially as it came up with a message to say that I'd broken the 'adult material' rule or something like it. A swim nappy is hardly adult material.

Belgianchocolates · 05/10/2009 18:28

I seem to have a liking for the today.

ladyhelen2 · 05/10/2009 19:38

Evening all.
Have managed to catch up but am still propping up my eyes with the matchsticks! So name check amnesty please, save for a special mention for reebee. Your morning after post had me ROFL.

Pretty uneventful day here too. Popped round to a friends for coffee this morning. She has twins who are now 13 weeks. And a 2 year old. And a 4 year old. Older two at nursery three days so today it was pretty calm round there.

I say coffee. Day one of The Diet. So thats a black decaf coffee for me. Have managed to stick to it all day. Four and a half days to go. Not even looked at what the next phase holds. Am going to see if this one works first.

Had a look at the thread grumpy mentionned but its now been pulled. Mutterings of troll. I hope someone isn't going through that but on the other hand, I hope someone isn't playing us on here. That really would be a bit sick.

Right off to check on my brown rice. Hmmmm. Yummy.

pulapula · 05/10/2009 19:56

ladyhelen- what a coincidence- there was a lady at playgroup last week who had 13 week old twins, and a 2 year old and a 4 year old- all boys! I was when I realised that she had the older 2 running around too.

ladyhelen2 · 05/10/2009 20:44

All boys! My pal has twin girls, a boy and a girl. I think its ok at the mo but the minute the twins start being mobile, I am sure all hell will break loose.

Only went and burnt my brown rice, didn't I? Harrumph. Am now staaaaaarrrrvvvvviinnng. It takes 45 minutes to cook brown rice to far to late to do any more. 45 minutes. I did not know that before today. 45 bleeding minutes.

sausagenmash · 05/10/2009 22:11

LadyH - order a pizza

Jennster · 05/10/2009 22:40

Sorry not to name check. Mumsnet hasn't been loading for me for 3 days and so I've just skim read.

Belgian I pmsl at your ds. It's something I can imagine my dc doing.

pulapula · 05/10/2009 22:52

Sausage- you sound much happier about your pre-wedding plans . Let's hope you get some sleep, and that your guests pull their finger out and browse your wedding list and start buying stuff. I must say I usually browse lists as soon as i get the details, but don't make a purchase til nearer the wedding.

I am still very glad we got married in Barbados whilst on holiday with friends (we were out there to watch England play test cricket vs W Indies combined with a beach holiday). It made things so much more relaxed . The only drawback was that we didn't have a private "honeymoon" as we then flew to Antigua (such a hard life) and shared a villa with our friends so no privacy really. I also found out on our "honeymoon" that i was pregnant and spent the rest of the holiday making excuses not to drink, which was difficult when the last few days were in an all-inclusive hotel. I think i said i'd got a really bad hangover and that i was detoxing.

Belgianchocolates · 05/10/2009 22:54

Today ds climbed into bed normally and when I asked about the germs he said that they've gone now. Clearly germs can't survive for 24h

saus good to hear that there are no more wedding shenanigans going on. Maybe they're all waiting to buy your wedding present last minute? I ended up with hardly any (but with lots of cash), because I had my list with wrapit that went bust within weeks of our wedding. Our guests got their money back after a lot of hassle, but then most of them decided to just give us the cash rather than going out to buy new stuff. It was really annoying and the reason we still dont own a deep fat fryer. I keep telling DH that it's healthier for us anyway not to own such a cooking impliment.

C has surprised me by falling asleep tonight without crying too. That's after a week of difficult bedtimes. The only difference is that she's discovered the taggies blanket that I keep in her cot and she's been playing with that before falling asleep. Both at nap and bedtime. I'm hoping that she'll start using it as a soother to go to sleep with. She actually put it over her face twice. Maybe she likes it there, a bit like in the sling she likes her face against my chest.

Anyway. I'm rambling away here and thinking out loud. Well not out loud as such, because it's via a keyboard, but YKWIM.

Right. Goodnight everyone. Hope you'll have a good night.

Momino · 05/10/2009 23:16

evening all. just got back from a book club. we'd read (or re-read) to Kill a Mockingbird. it was my choice since i wanted people to understand why we chose the name Harper (or would've been atticus had she been a boy). perfect book. had a couple of glasses of wine and relaxed a bit.

belgian, H has a taggies type blanket that a friend's mum had made; she loves it.

should be going to sleep. never know when the Little One will awake.

Hope all have had a good night.

ladyhelen2 · 06/10/2009 07:51

Morning all.

Horrible weather here. Rain rain rain. DS1 in nursery so at least pressure is off trying to find something for him to do.

Better night here. R up at 1am and then 6am so feeling slightly more human today. He's gone back to bed already!

Managed to avoid the pizza saus thanks! Its only for 4 days. Its only for 4 days. Have to keep telling myself that. Actually its not that bad. Bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast. Nice and all but without the carbs, it feels like something is missing. 4 days to go.....

momino sounds like a nice night. I'd forgotton that Harper was inspired by TKAMB. It was one of my o level texts ( I'm that old I actually did o levels and not GCSE's!).I always have a soft spot for that book. Along with Pride and Prejudice.

LoobyLou36 · 06/10/2009 09:46

morning all...

another disturbed night here. M went to sleep at 7.30 then woke at 10.30 for a feed then she slept 11 till 3.30 fed till 4 then slept till 7

weather is rubbish here so we're having a cuddly sofa day o far, haven't had a shower yet

weaning is going ok - I think . Have never done this before so its all new, so far M has had baby rice, mashed parsnip and mashed banana, I've made a vegetable stock and frozen it in an ice cube tray so that I can try to add a bit more flavour to things. We're trying carrot later.

pulapula · 06/10/2009 09:56

Morning all,

Rainy here too. I am hosting the local NCT coffee group here today at 10am - already had one cancellation. I guess with the weather there might only be a couple of people coming- oh well, more cake to go around! At least it inspired me to tidy the house too.

S had a funny night- woke trumping at 9.30 so i thought i might as well feed him as he was crying and rooting. Then woke again at 1am so fed him. Then he woke at 5.45 and DH settled him back to sleep with some shushing and he slept til 7.15 . So he obviously can do long stretches without milk.

Looby- if i were you i wouldn't rush to try out lots of new foods with M. Best to introduce things slowly to check for signs of any allergies.

ReeBee · 06/10/2009 10:16

Morning

Rainy here as well. I was meant to be going out for lunch but have cancelled - too much MNing important moving house paperwork to do.

Saus, fab news about your DP and the night before your wedding, am so pleased. I agree with pula, I browse wedding lists ages before I buy, I'm a last minute purchaser.

LadyHelen, hope the diet is going well. I've done a 7 day veg soup / unlimited veg diet in the past and it's a killer but the results are well worth it. Also, re that thread you mentioned, there seem to have been all kinds of shenanigans and other threads and unpleasantness over the last few days. Like you, am very either way. It made me reconsider my MN involvement - but then I remembered we're all figments of our own imagination on this thread and I'm not really here anyway so that's ok.

Belgian, Momino, Felix has a kind of comforter fleecy blanket thing but I've always been too paranoid to let him use it to sleep with. Sounds like I've been OTT, excellent (if unsurprising) news.

pula, hope your coffee morning goes well.

LoobyLou36 · 06/10/2009 10:53

thanks pula as a first-timer any advice really appreciated

LoobyLou36 · 06/10/2009 10:55

I haven't seen that thread - think I'm glad

dandy childfree for 3 hours? Selfridges? Ice Cream? Life doesn't get much better than that, well at least for a few hours anyway!

saus agree with dandy over the wedding list thing. We went to a wedding last oct and only managed to get our arse in gear about 10 days beforehand. So you may get your dinnerservice yet!

reebee I know what you mean about the MN thing. In some ways MN is vulnerable to trolling as its free, but on balance I do love it here. I love the fact that you can swear (childish I know), and that its more or less self moderating. Its in situations like the one that has arisen in the last few days though where the self moderation sometimes gets out of hand. However, in comparison to the old forum I was on, this is by far livlier, funnier and more helpful. I doubt we'll ever know for sure about the thread in question, but it will all be forgotten in a few days and get back to normal.

Just popped into town. Wanted to get DS1 some pjs from gap for Halloween. They are cool. I love them! Glow in the dark skeleton ones. Just hope he likes them too. I am now a sucker for Halloween. Its a shame that we are going to be at my god bothering in laws this year who no doubt view Halloween as some sort of evil influence. Oh well. I shall do my best to annoy them and dress both DCs up in respective monstrous costumes. Mwwwwaaaa haaaaa haaaaaaaa.

FiByTheSea · 06/10/2009 11:48

dandy your decadent morning sounds lovely.. I've just pushed G in the pram doing a ton of errands for my parents and now waiting to get ds from pre school. I also got G weighed and she's gone from the 98th to the 95th for the 1st time. she's still put on 1lb in 5wks though and is now 17lbs 6oz so not worried.

Belgianchocolates · 06/10/2009 12:52

What's that thread that everyone is on about? I must have missed it. TBH I seem to only go on our little thread lately and maybe have a read of the funny dcs threads or something. I stay away from AIBU or other controversial topics such as bf, weaning . It often ends in tears and I don't like that. I must admit that MN is definitely funnier and more lively than other forums. Maybe MNers are generally more intelligent with a great sense of humour?

We had a good night. Just got back from M&T group, so C slept in the sling. Will try her in her cot again this afternoon. I'm still reading the napping book and have worked out she's got the 'one sleep cycle syndrome' which is why she's always taking short catnaps. I haven't read the sollutions bit yet, but getting there. It sounds like a white noise machine or something might help her because she's a light sleeper and easily wakes from the other 2 making noise. The theory is that that might drown out the older 2 shouting.

FiByTheSea · 06/10/2009 13:15

belgian G sleeps through ds's noise better if i've got something playing in the background.. radio or even telly. it does help her not notice his general toddler racket

i'm glad I missed those threads. i too don't stray far from my cozy imaginary world here

btw when the health visitor had just weighed G this am and worked out she was 19.5 weeks.. she then asked 'have you started weaning yet?'! i said 'err no she's bit young yet'.. a convo ensued and apparently it's ok to start when I feel she's ready.. i bet this was due to her dropping off her line. i must chart her on the bf ones and see if it's different. does anyone have a link handy to save me hunting our previous threads?
