I hope that this will do you all as the last thread ran out.

Let the fun and chocolate eating commence...

Yes, I do worry about the inks etc. But then I can just imagine people saying things like 'Paper? Ink? Just wait until you've got more kids, they'll be chewing on roadkill they find in the gutter and you won't give a monkey's'

Bicnod · 30/09/2009 10:51

Just dashing in quickly as O needs a feed... do bickiepegs break off? I want to try them for Oscar but not sure if should yet...

Feierabend · 30/09/2009 11:24

No idea about bickiepegs sorry. Don't even really know what they are.

So, apple puree. H was strangely fascinated when I just gave her a taste. She kept grimacing, but then she grabbed the spoon and put it in her mouth again and again. Am pretty sure she didn't actually swallow any of it so this still doesn't count as weaning I hope

Guimauve · 30/09/2009 12:37

Think Bickiepegs are made of concrete and do not break off (AFAIK). They have a wee ribbon attached don't they?

I was following the pram in the hall thread too - my god those neighbours have a cheek!

Bicnod I shouldn't think O could possibly choke on a rice cake - get your DH to suck one and see how it turns to mush almost instantly. Can't remember how old O is now? Rice cake probably one of the safest finger foods to start with, I reckon.

Gui/Feier Orbit likes to eat paper, too. Mostly the post, if he can get it, and my newspaper is a favourite but I don't let him have that. Feel sure newspaper ink is fairly nasty stuff, even if it is the Grauniad rather than the Daily Mail....

Gui I watch House, but sadly don't have Sky, so can't watch the latest series Do you watch Doc Martin though? The headmaster in the new series also has Naughty Hand!

Must go and pack for holidays on Saturday, hooray!!!!!

mrsgboring · 30/09/2009 14:08

Great news from Puzzle. Good luck with your appt. Nutty.

Gui thanks for the monsterpram thread - it is captivating, and Boff you are very scary (she says having spent all morning saying to another mum "Tell the school to stick it" re homework in Reception)

Arghg E wakes every time I post - am trying to get him asleep so I can get dinner ready

Swaliswan · 30/09/2009 14:16

It turns out that B doesn't like baby rice. Mummy's tomatoes are another matter though

Almost forgot to say that I loved the naughty hand episode of House, Gui. I wonder what series 6 is going to be like.

Yup, Swali, looking forward to series 6, and pleased it starts so soon!

WFH - I must hunt out some Doc Martin now! Inspired by you, I made some hummus yesterday, which H seemed to enjoy sucking off my finger today! It must have come as quite a shock, as there is a fair hit of raw garlic in there! [not looking forward to that nappy emoticon] Do you put tahini in? Is giving a baby sesame paste overly cavalier [too late now emoticon]?

Has anyone been browsing the weaning board? It's even more scary than the bf one!

Guimauve · 30/09/2009 14:30

That's a lot of nappies! How did you get into the trial?

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 30/09/2009 14:37

Ooooh exciting Swali! Sadly, out of that list I have only tried the Motherease Rikki wraps, but can confirm that they are almost bomb proof. If you want to make sure there won't be a leak, they're the ones to use.

Can't believe I haven't tried ANY of the others! Am of your trial now. I use Itti Bittis, Fluffles and Bamboozles, and Motherease wraps at the moment.

Gui I didn't use tahini but only because I didn't have any in the house - does it have salt in? If it doesn't then I can't see a problem with it. I think chickpeas have lots of iron in, as well, so hummus vv good for babies. And the tahini is very high in unsaturated fats, good for fattening up slender babies!

Guimauve · 30/09/2009 15:37

Aye, I'm all for fatty fatty nuts! It was more the sesame as allergen thing I was worried about, though I'm not particularly avoiding the more common allergens. Sesame just 'feels' like a big one! No salt, just pure, unhulled sesame. Bill Granger says unhulled is much better for you, and I believe him!

I accidentally ate a whole bar of G&B. I meant to save some for DH. Oops!

Guimauve · 30/09/2009 18:30

Almost feel the need to lol again!

Feierabend · 30/09/2009 20:01

FFS. Looks like I am making a trip to the doc's AGAIN tomorrow. DD1 has what looks like a nappy rash but because she's potty trained do I have to assume it's thrush??? Also H's skin had cleared up and this evening I noticed a new rash behind her knees / in her skin folds. She's just had her last dose of ABs so what the f... is this??? Grrrrrrrrrrr. I am so fed up of going to the doc's.

WFH, yay for holiday, where are you off to?

Guimauve · 30/09/2009 20:36

Oh, Fei, what arun of luck! Why don't you try calling the paed you saw at the hospital and see if you can go straight into the assessment unit? If you say the infection had nearly cleared but then started worsening again they might ask you to go straight in there rather than going to GP. And then if you say 'DD1 has a rash, could they be connected?', they might be able to see her too? They may just say to go to GP, but it's got to be worth a try - esp as the cultures found strep and they were considering changing the abx anyway.

dawntigga · 30/09/2009 21:10

I don't get why pictures of prams are funny - unless you meant different pictures.

ConfoozeledTiggaxx

Guimauve · 30/09/2009 21:27

Tis not page 3, tis page 10 or 11. And you need to have read a bit of the thread to get the picture!

AuldAlliance · 30/09/2009 21:33

oh, i think page numbers depend on yr settings (how many posts per page, from most recent to oldest or vice versa, etc.)

AuldAlliance · 30/09/2009 21:38

pic of pram slightly blocking access to neighbours' flat here

mrsgboring · 30/09/2009 21:47

Oh Fei it never rains but it pours.

WFH I love Doc Martin too (though I was really cross with the end of last series - and there's lots of silly inaccuracies). And as for House, well DH and I are almost tempted to abandon our principles and get Sky to be able to see it.

Bicnod, I've given E rice cakes, but he won't hold them himself - you hold and he chomps down on it like a lion with an antelope.

I should be in bed as DH is Edmund-sitting. But I can't sleep, despite having been spark out in the sofa all evening. [frustration]

PuzzleRocks · 30/09/2009 22:43

Good evening gorgeous ladies.

My baby is home now. And boy does it feel wonderful.
She developed a bit of a cold on Friday afternoon. By Sunday bedtime her breathing had become laboured and her chest was rising and falling very quickly. She went downhill really quickly and appeared to be in pain as we called the ambulance.

I left Holly with DH and went up to Kingston with her. She was given a nebuliser in A&E which settled her enough to take an x-ray which she thought was very cool not least because she got stickers for being good. The x ray revealed a large infected area in her left lung.

By the time they decided to admit her it was 2.30am. Holly, incidentally, slept from 7pm until 3am. Bloody typical that she should do that when I was not in bed reaping the benefit.

She was so good having the canula put in. DH was white though. With no expressed milk at home, it fell to him to stay with Ellen while I went home. Walking away from her was very very difficult. Thankfully it was so late and I was so exhausted that I pretty much passed out in bed.

When I got to the ward the next morning she had tubes in her arm for the antibiotics, tubes up her nose administering oxygen and they had started her on steroids.

My Mum, bless her, walked out of work as soon as she heard and came up to the hospital which gave DH and I a chance to eat, go home etc when we needed to. She is here tonight also as DH had had to go off to Birmingham for a work commitment which he was very unhappy about. He was supposed to go two day ago. I have already had several messages from him. He took seeing his little girl unwell very badly.

Anyway, I have rambled on haven't I? She is home now and I can't stop kissing her. She has to have Salbutamol inhalers round the clock so I am waking for both of them at ungodly hours, although she is being wean off over the course of a week. She had her last steroid tablets (prednisolone Ju) today and she has five days of antibiotics (co-amoxiclav sp?? Ju).

I haven't had a chance to read the thread but a quick glance showed me you were all working your warrior vibe magic so thank you so so much. I also really appreciated the texts and fb messages. You are wonderful.

Please forgive me but I will have to do a catch up tomorrow as I am shattered. I hope you are all well and much love to you all. xx

PuzzleRocks · 30/09/2009 23:02

Ok Holly needs a feed so I will try to catch up on Friday posts..

Nutty - Is Phoenix eating any better?
Gave you had a word with MIL about asking her to keep secrets?
"Non-sexual escort"? What a tool.
That's so shit about the injections. Fingers crossed for your op.

Fei - Is that whale penis in your living room? You could club a man to death with that.

By mrsgboring Fri 25-Sep-09 21:06:57
Oh God don't start with the weird stuff
You tell em MrsG, dirty beggars.

Auld - Expressing is indeed shit. You are incredible to cope the way you do. On Ellen's second night in hospital I was frantically trying to express enough for one night feed because she wanted me to stay. After a concerted effort I was delighted to produce a sufficient amout only to be told "you go home mow Mummy, I want Daddy". Monkey!

Dawn - Sorry to hear you were unwell. How are you now?

Ok, Holly's asleep, i'm offski. Just Sat - present to catch up. Night night.

BabyBolat · 01/10/2009 07:22

Puzzle - I cannot tell you how pleased I am that she is Ok - it must have been truly horrific - I can't even imagine what it was like - big big hugs - I know how horrendous it was watching K in hospital last week and his wasn't as serious as poor little E (and when he was allowed home I wouldn't let anyone take him from me, he stayed in my arms until we got back to the UK) so lots of kisses sounds like just the job!

Have a lovely sleep and glad your mum is there to help you xxx

I am so glad she his home and you can spoil her rotten xxx
