Afternoon all.

Ladybee - aahhh, how cute. Like Knitter said, just carry on what you're doing. DS1 is 7 now and we still call a squirrel a "squeal" as that's how he used to say it. Oh and quad bike is still "grott pipe" - fab

Went to the physio this morning and I don't have a trapped nerve in my back. I have 2 completely separate injuries. I have a very badly damaged muscle in the middle of my back and a not so badly damaged ligament (the one underneath the left buttock). He gave me the first set of treatment with acupuncture on the muscle this morning. I'll need 2 more treatments on the muscle and 1 on the ligament. Have any of you ever had acupuncture? Very effective so far though, although I'm feeling very sore.

Sal - great news about your mum

KnitterInTheNW · 12/11/2009 17:21

Hi Soph!

I've only ever had acupuncture to try to turn G because he was breech. It didn't work, but then again the consultant refused to try to turn him because he was wedged in too tightly the wrong way, so who knows if it might have worked under different circumstances. Very odd having needles stuck in in random places then left to 'relax' for a bit. Because it's easy to relax when you're feeling very self concious and also concerned that you'll never get down off the bench again as a result of him lying it down flat, with nowhere to roll to...

MistergodthisisSal · 12/11/2009 17:28

Phew Soph, no wonder you were in such agony! Glad something can be done now though.

Acupuncture - yes, I've had it loads when I was pregnant. I was working long hours right up till the end (3 days), so decided to spoil myself (yes, I know, I'm odd "spoiling" myself with needles...) with a course. I used to get acupuncture once a week throughout my pregnancy, and loved it. I was a little nervous first time, but it helped me relax so much, and I felt really energetic and not nauseous afterward.

I dragged offered one appointment to dh, but he hated it. So I guess it depends on the person. (He said it was painful, but it did help for his back pain.)

KnitterInTheNW · 12/11/2009 17:50

Another word that I think might stick in this house too... G calls himself 'Gee-jaw' (we use Georgie a lot).

MistergodthisisSal · 12/11/2009 19:06

Aww, I love the nicknames. R not talking well enough for us to recognise any - we're still on basics - the odd "ca(r)", "ba(ll)" etc. Only words he says clearly are Pappa (Afrikaans for Daddy), Mamma (Mommy) and Gobbi, the cat's name!

KnitterInTheNW · 12/11/2009 20:55

lol at your cat's name Sal... because I read it as being pronounced 'gobby' and just had a picture in my head of a cat that never stops talking! Is it an Afrikaans word/name?

MistergodthisisSal · 12/11/2009 21:08

Hahahaha Knitter - well, she can be loud at times! It is actually pronounced "gobby" - it's short for Gobolina. When I was small, there was a story about Gobolina, the Witch's cat. It was a completely black cat (as Gobbi is), and dh and I kept giggling about the "witch's cat" bit when we first considered names - being so apt for me and all that. We're simple souls, us!

LadyBee · 12/11/2009 23:20

I recognised Gobolina the cat - how odd!
Thanks for the responses about speech, very reassuring. I was a bit worried it would come across wrong, I know they all develop at different speeds and so on, I'm just amazed at how this language thing works and didn't want to mess it up or annoy him

I had acupuncture on my hands, arms and shoulders when i had some RSI-type injuries (in a previous life I was a musician and practiced far too long). I found it painful sometimes - but effective. I occassionally felt a bit queasy, but not anything worth worrying about. And it did work.

Scorps · 13/11/2009 12:45

Knitter - mega huge thankyous for Maisies cardi, it's so beautiful and so me iyswim I can't wait to see her in it! It's so soft and sparkly buttons and everything

So rubbish day here, DH being a knobber ( but right royally been put in his place) and Mimi actualy got IN the toilet. J said 'mummy mimis in the toilet', I thought he meant in the bathroom and I finished tidying up. Went in bathroom and she is standing both feet in the toilet, laughing wearig a soaking wet upsy daisy fleecy sleepsuit thing. Arrggghhhh. I am off to have wispa and tea now!

KnitterInTheNW · 13/11/2009 13:43

Scorps, @ thankyou and at Millie, I haven't stopped chuckling yet! They're such pickles at the moment aren't they? I looked up earlier to find G standing on the wobbliest coffee table in the world so that he could watch the cars go by outside. If that boy makes it in one piece to his 2nd birthday it'll be a miracle!

SuperSoph73 · 13/11/2009 14:09

Afternoon. Well, although I do feel a little better, I actually look as though I've been beaten up. I've got a very bruised back & I am still very tender but can move a lot easier. The thing is my body turns black & blue even before anyone's jabbed me with a needle, all I have to do is think about it Can you imagine what I'll look like after 3 more sessions

LOL @ Maisie in the toilet, I can just imagine how proud she looked

MyMamaToldMe · 13/11/2009 15:31

hello everyone! Sorry I've been quiet for long - real life took over and I've been really busy. Started working again in September and that was a bit of a shock to the system! So pleased to have finally gotten a job though!

Gigi is at a really cute age right now - making me broody for another one! She's also saying a few bits and pieces - quite similar to BabyBee in fact - they would probbaly be able to have a little conversation LadyBee! I imagine it would be a little like this - BB - Car; G - beep beep; BB - dog; G - oof oof! LOL She is a really little girle too - loves her soft toys and dollies. She likes putting them to bed and then shushing us by putting her little finger to her mouth and saying 'shhh'! So cute! She likes giving them food and drink too - cute to begin with but now just messy!

What else can I tell you? Well DH was made redundant a few weeks ago, and on his last offical day of work, he was offered a new job. PHEW! We were really stressed when he found out thinking no-one was going to hire this side of Christmas, but they did so we aren't going to have the dire Christmas we thought we might have!

LadyBee - Congrats on the wedding! Had a look at your pics and you looked boooootiful! Looks like you had a really special day!

Sal - been following your updates on fb, but again - so good to hear your mum is doing okay - such good news.

What's everyone buying for the LO's for Christmas? Just worked out how many pressies I have to buy this year and, well, it's a lot. A lot a lot. Trying to figure out which bank to rob now to fund this!

Scorps · 13/11/2009 15:45

Mimi is a little girly girl too. for Xmas she has a nighttime iggle piggle, an upsy daisy and bed toy, a baby annabelle and a pram. Also stocking with 'pretties' (hairbands, clips), chcoclate, a ball etc.

She really likes dolls etc too, she loves Waybuloo as well but I'm not buying her any more!!

I got alot in sales so I didn't spend as much as it seems

Denny185 · 13/11/2009 18:40

DD2 is getting a shopping bag with play jewlery and keys inside and a really cheap pink buggy as DS wont let her play with the blue one . She already has DD1's dolls and doll stuff thats been handed down.

MMTM - nice to see u back and that u and Dh both have jobs.

Soph, glad the AP has helped, its used in most physio departments now, research does show that there are physiological actions that help manage pain relief and muscle spasm.

LadyBee · 13/11/2009 22:50

Hey MMTM, nice to see you back and congratulations on the job (you and DH!)
is it fulltime or did you get some flexibility?

We haven't decided what to get B for Christmas but are thinking probably some duplo and I'd quite like to find a wooden trainset as that seems to be a something that lots of MNers say gets played with for a while.

yay! it's the weekend! I'm sooo tired and I want to be all curled up in my bed. In fact, I think I might just do that.

MistergodthisisSal · 13/11/2009 23:40

Hello again MyMamaToldMe. Sheez, can imagine you've had a stressful time with the redundancy thing, but SO glad for you that that's over now. Such a horrible time financially now, I wish things would improve faster. Don't we all, of course.
Gigi sounds adorable!

Christmas - we really want to get R a trainer bike, but still looking at options, as some are so expensive.

First choice was this from LikeABike, but it's just wayyyy to expensive for my liking...

Now looking at the Rothan, but want to see if I can't find a good second hand one first. Will call them on Monday, as they do "trade in's", so I'm hoping they might have second hand ones.

R's obsessed with wheels at the moment, and the Little Tikes mini cycle that we bought him seems almost too small now - he kicks against the back wheels.

EllieG · 14/11/2009 20:24

Hey ladies! Been busy this week, sorry about moaning and leaving, work was mad.

Survey report not as bad as thought, and looks like vendor will fix before we move in, hurray!

MMTM - hey you! Good news about your DH

Great news about your Mum sal, really relieved for you

Poor poorly soph, hope you feel better soon

Re language and presents, I just repeat what Molly says after, I know what she means most of the time but other people wouldn't (e.g. 'L love you' is 'Ay la yoooooooo!' and sometimes even 'You you yoooooooou!' because that's her favourite sound in the phrase). They'll get the sounds in their own time I reckon.

Am getting her a little kitchen for Christmas, she loves the 'home corner' at nursery, and a little pram maybe as she likes to push hers. Might also get a little tool set in the interests of non-gender specific toys so she'll not grow up thinking girls just has to cook and play with babies (though that's all she sees her mother doing!)

MistergodthisisSal · 14/11/2009 21:33

That's wonderful news re house, Ellie!

We visited dh's cousin and her family today - was so lovely. Her youngest is just over a year older than R, so she gave us a MASSIVE bag full of clothes that he's outgrown! I need to go through ours as well and bag up all the too-small stuff to make space for the new stuff.

EllieG · 14/11/2009 21:36

Hey sal! Ooo I love being given bags of clothes

Crikey, forgot how, um, 'honest' MN can be, I started a thread and now feel very chastened and have realised that am rubbish parent. Made mistake of asking for honest opinions, and blimey, did I get them! Am staying here and licking my wounds in future

MistergodthisisSal · 14/11/2009 21:58

Ah Ellie, she sounds perfectly well behaved to me! I do think most people agree with you though - more a case of they have sympathy for the guy in case he was just having a crap day, not necessarily M annoying him. I think you couldn't win in that situation - if she kept sitting and cried, that would have annoyed him too. You're a fabulous mom. Not being patronising, I really mean it.

EllieG · 14/11/2009 21:58

Thanks for friendly post sal

KnitterInTheNW · 14/11/2009 22:09

I just saw your thread too, Ellie. If you're a bad parent then so am I, we do what you did all the time. Man was just a grumpy old sod who deserves no happiness. So there.

MistergodthisisSal · 14/11/2009 22:15

Knitter.

Scorps · 15/11/2009 08:09

Ellie, molly sounds like she behaved really well in the cafe and in cafes/restauarants we always get children coming up to us. Dh & I always talk to them, a min or two is such a short time, what a grump! Bit OTT to ask for removal IMO esp if just around the table and not banging, screeching, climbing etc.
