Thought I'd start a new thread as as soon as evie pops we're bound to fill it hugely and some of us have phones to work with!

i did, ooh. there ya go, my boredom is womakind's boon

FfreckleFface · 14/09/2009 21:20

Loving this age too. I am very bad at the laughing-at-cute-but-naughty-behaviour thing though, and as a result Ff thinks that it is fine to dance on the coffee table, and to steal and eat dried pasta from the kitchen cupboards because it makes Mummy laugh.
She's a very determined little thing, and knows exactly what she wants to do. But, so far, she isn't a tantrumer, and distraction works well if she starts to get frustrated.

She's very sociable, with people, babies, and animals. Girldgog is her best friend, and the dog basket is her favourite place to hide treasure and go for a little lie down. No fear at all, and last week when I left her at nursery she didn't so much as give me a backward glance as I took myself sobbing out of the door. She likes all of her building and pushing toys, and is great at putting things together, but not so keen on sitting still and being read to, and thinks all jigsaws are good for is eating.

Sleep is (and I write this hesitantly, dreading the day the words come back and bite me in the arse)fantastic. She is more than happy to be put in her cot wide awake at 7 each evening, and never disturbs us (well, me) until past 7 the next morning. I can't remember the last time I had a broken night. (Sorry.)

Ewe, I have my fingers crossed your MD has good news for you.

littleducks, do you ever get into Henley? Ff and I love a walk down the towpath.

FfreckleFface · 14/09/2009 21:32

I have just posted a confession on merry's baby naming thread.

Don't judge too harshly.

turtle23 · 14/09/2009 21:56

I am highly amused by this age. My son has decided to become some sort of scary creature who speaks in a "lion voice"(think how a toddler roars but speak like that) most of the time as it makes Mummy laugh. Worried I'm damaging his little throat.
We finally are down to the last two teeth which is fab. He feeds himself which is more fab. Nights where he isn't teething (?) he sleeps like a log. He is very into drawing and presenting his works of art to everyone. He spends a lot of the day hugging and kising his mother.

If anybody has any advice for me I would greatly appreciate it...sorry for tmi but my boobs itch like mad. I am scratching myself raw in my sleep. I have tried a few different moisturisers but I can't stand it anymore! (They dont seem to be any bigger, but am guessing it's stretching)
OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

You could try Clarins Tonic Oil? Or Doublebase/Aveeno? Or for immediate relief right now then a nice hot bath - just don't stay in for too long and all that. I still get itchy boobs from time to time, it drives me nuts!

MD grabbed me five mins before I left and told me it is going to be another week before he can get back to me, urrrgghhh.

merryberry · 14/09/2009 22:15

lansinoh? very soothing i thought

HolidaysQueen · 15/09/2009 10:19

turtle - lovely oil in the bath/shower, and lots of moisturiser and eventually it will ease. Your skin is just really dry as it stretches I think. I had this badly with DS.

Both DH and I are adoring having an almost 18mo. DS is just a joy . His tantrums are relatively few, and mainly involve lying down on the floor mournfully without making a sound! Yesterday he learnt how to walk backwards, so spent most of the afternoon unexpectedly crashing into furniture as he shuffled backwards with a manic grin on his face. He loves reading, particularly Meg & Mog, and is very interested in household tasks to the extent that he will load the washing machine for me, hang laundry on the airer, get out all the dishes he needs for a meal and tidy away all his toys! He is such a confusion of super-fast and super-slow development - almost nothing is by the book: he has always been amazingly good at things requiring dexterity - he could build a tower of 10 bricks at 12mo and happily eat soup neatly from a spoon before his birthday - but he only learnt to walk a month ago and wave a week ago!

Like mb though, I'm thinking maybe babyhood is now over and DH and I are starting to think about a second. I guess the issue is that we don't feel quite ready now, but by next summer I know we'll want to have number 2 around or on the way, so maybe we should get started now after all. It just feels odd working out when we will probably want one and calculating back to work out when we need to get started, rather than doing it based on feeling broody which is what we did with DS. Is that weird?

ilovegreenbeans · 15/09/2009 12:52

HQ- if you want one next summer bette get busy now!

crashfistfight · 15/09/2009 13:15

Hello Ladies

Long time no speak. Was lured in by MB's name thread and thought I'd catch up here too although have been up to old lurking antics again.

Firstly CONGRATS Evie!!! hope your getting on well.

I am loving this age too, its definitely on the cusp of toddlerhood now and its just amazing to catch glimpses of the little person emerging.

DD's stringing some words together now and slurring phrases like 'wheredidgo?' 'iyeeseeit'.

She's very socialable but can be quite clingly as well.

FfFf- HOW DO YOU DO IT? DD still wakes up twice a night. She's only ever slept 'through' for a short several weeks and since we came back from holiday its been really difficult sleep wise. I don't even think its teething because they've all broken through already.

HQ- I reckon the broodiness is urging you into this planning business in the first place...either way there's nothing wrong with a plan!

Autumn is here -YAY beautiful crisp days, BOO rain! We've been stomping around in the leaves and such which DD loves. She's also keen on putting all the leaves she finds into the bin which is not tedious at all...

I've started knitting a sweater in the hopes that come winter it might actually be finished. Its my first big knit so the pace has been painfully slow but I am determined to have it done by November.

Glad to hear that we are all in love with our Beautiful Babies

CricketsMum · 15/09/2009 21:44

WE HAVE 11 TEETH!!!! WE'RE OVER HALFWAY!!!!
wooohoooooooo.

All the babies sound soooo cute!

am going to bed now. Likely to be up again in 3 hours. Who needs a newborn? You are all welcome to borrow my dd for a night to remind yourselves exactly what it was like! (Without the benefits of hormones, leaking breasts and itchy stitches!!)

merryberry · 15/09/2009 22:04

Yeah, I'm really really enjoying now too. I've had a good start to the serious RA treatment Humira, more on my blog

Such a no-brainer of relief to be able to run around after them again. And not feel defensive as the bodies hurtle at me all day every day

FfreckleFface · 15/09/2009 22:15

cff I drink heavily. Never hear a thing...

But seriously - I don't know. I can't take any credit really - she just sleeps incredibly well, and has done since she was very small. We do have a golden rule that once she is in the cot she stays there, but I don't know how firm I'd be on this because it has never been tested. Bloke and I have said that we should probably leave it at one, because we'd be bound to get a bad sleeper next time because we were so lucky with Ff.

Bloke back tomorrow. For good this time. Am excited, but also a little sad, because it means that my summer with my little girl is over. All of a sudden I'll have to share her, and as of next week we'll be off doing different things. Is that mental? I can't wait to go to uni, but it does feel like we're drawing a definite line under babyhood.

FfreckleFface · 15/09/2009 22:21

That's very good news, mb, hope it stays that way.

merryberry · 16/09/2009 21:04

god hurry up and finish teething please babies. i just got lobbed down again by poor gg crying himself to bed, red raw arsed and canines poking out a minute amount. poor love.

CricketsMum · 17/09/2009 11:30

at least that means they aren't far away MB. We have allthe joys of canines still to come. can't wait. no really.

FF - hope your bloke got back ok!

JFly · 17/09/2009 14:58

Hey ladies!

Just a quick note to say I'm back from the States. I've lurked a bit while away but will catch up properly and report back.

OH, and I've officially signed up for dog sledding with DP in February so...GOD HELP ME!

Aaaaaand, I've been asked to be interviewed for a pregnancy mag about my doula experience (via Turtle!) so that should be fun!

Anywho, will catch up soon. Any chance of that meet up before Turtle pops?? Could do a weekend if that helps anyone.

Dontpanic · 17/09/2009 16:38

woohoo jfly! Just saw your message on fbook!
We need to set up a donations thread on mnet

To catch up with other things, yes, love this stage as everything's new and exciting, and E changes every day. Not so keen on his habit of turning all the cooker rings on, but at least he hasn't worked out the gas yet. Starting to get competitive mum syndrome as he isn't talking much in the way of proper words yet, but every so often he'll repeat what I say, just not with any idea of what it is! He has a good understanding of everything except "no" (which obviously means, "do it again, it makes them notice me"!) so trying not to focus on the other similar aged toddlers reciting Shakespeare already

cff hello again!

turtle hope things are ok

FfFf I had a sneaky suspicion on the source of Ff's middle name when you did the birth announcement (am sure that's where I've seen it before)...hope you're having a fun reunion & not getting too jealous at sharing again!

Right, gotta go, sorry if I've missed anyone off!

turtle23 · 17/09/2009 18:31

DH has decided to snoop in here so I'm off for a while.

Just popping in to say hello.

Ewe · 17/09/2009 18:56

JFly - your holiday pics look fab, really beautfil, definitely put that part of the states on my to do list.

I am making cupcakes as a trial run for the weekend tonight - I am making some for my grandmothers birthday lunch. Any top tips from you excellent bakers?

bumpy! Nice to see you here, hope things are well with you and yours?

HolidaysQueen · 17/09/2009 20:04

Ewe - use butter not marg. Buttery cakes are soooo much better. Just more delicious and moreish. Whenever I make it for friends they always comment on the lush butteriness Same goes for any buttercream you do for a topping.

hello bumpy. long time no see and all that

Ewe · 17/09/2009 20:58

Hideous typing up there - I clearly meant beautiful, I can spell, honest!

I used butter HQ and they are looking and smelling good, just made the icing and am waiting for cupcakes to cool down. I have never grown out of wanting to lick the bowl - does anyone? I have made buttercream, it is very soft and yummy but does it set at all once on? Otherwise they will have to stay here and I will have to eat them all and not take them to work.

Oh meant to say JFly that I would love to meet up, I can do weekends too, perhaps me you and bumpy (and everyone else welcome of course!) could get together somewhere SW or Surrey way? DP is away the weekend of 3rd/4th so totally free then.

Ewe · 17/09/2009 21:01
