I'm broody too - reading our old thread didn't help! Dh is adamant that there will be no more children here It must be partly due to hormones cos I really don't like being pregnant! Ho hum...

llareggub · 03/09/2009 14:55

I don't know Momino. I know I do get rsther fluctuating moods. I've either been pregnant and/or breastfeeding since February 2006 so I've no idea now whether it is me or the hormones!

sophietom · 03/09/2009 16:35

HeeHee re broodiness- I have two friend who are due in 4 weeks and thier lovely bumps make me feel broody. I keep wistfully telling DP how magical it was being pg and he looks at me like I'm mad because I was a moany nightmare for the whole pg!

Have lemon and lime cake baking, smells fab, not going to help my weightloss though. I will go to postnatal exercise next week, and have ordered an exercise dvd. I am so sick of post baby figure, I can fit into my pre-pg boyfriend jeans (with muffin top spilling out) but want to wear my skinnies. Jenn if you fancy a long stomp round the park next week let me know

SpangleMaker · 03/09/2009 17:03

Just spent a whole H nap time skimming the first thread & chuckling at the bit where I was on about planning to have plenty of time between stopping work and giving birth. It was sad seeing people drop out. I was saying to the girls in my NCT group the other day that I found the first trimester worst, mainly because of the worry but also the feeling-crap-but-not-being-able-to-tell-anyone-why bit.

And yes, am feeling a little broody too

sophietom lemon and lime cake sounds gorgeous

runningmonkey · 03/09/2009 17:33

Hi All,

Have also been looking back at the first thread, its really emotional, lots of names I have thought of from time to time and hoped they were doing ok. I'm wierdly broody too but after the first meeting of my new mum's group today where everyone was trying to outdo each other with their birth stories I'm not so sure.

Where I live is in the news today as its birth rate is apparently greater than Indias! There was a sun journalist lurking round our baby group asking for quotes

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 03/09/2009 20:07

Now then now then gals.........

I have 7 whole English pages to read afore I've caught up witcha all. So I'm going to tell you all about me me me me me me me me and then go and find out what's been going on, so I apologise if I make any crass remarks etc.

So we're here, settling in. We're leasing on a 3-year basis, with the option to buy if we decide we like it within those 3 years. There are 4 B&B rooms, sleeping min. 3 people and I have my first booking , a girl who will be working at the Boulangerie will be staying with us 4 nights a week for a month at least, probably longer.

The village is really lovely with a friendly community. The girls started school today - DD1 has to kind of redo Yr6 equivalent but will then skip up a year next year, provided her French is good enough. DD2 is in Maternelle, which is like the Nursery element as kids start school proper aged 6 here. They both came out of school with big smiles on their faces, waving 'au revoir' to their new amies. And they are both looking forward to school again tomorrow. They really are little starlets! DD2 decided she liked school because 'they have Princess high heels in the dressing up box'. Priorities, priorities.

Saus You make me laugh so much, your Franglais was spot on. And Momi I am sorry to say that you bowing your head for the piggingtons made me smile.

Just awaiting the dog's blood tests and then she can come out here too, can't wait for her to be here.

DH will be a week in the UK and a week in France for the forseeable future, but I feel a lot happier now.

And you are all most definitely welcome Chez Grumpy, when I've amended the website, I'll post a link. I'll also get some photos on FB hopefully over the weekend.

Now I shall go and read all the news, sufficed to say, I'm here and I'm happy!!!

A tout a l'heure!!

Jennster · 03/09/2009 21:22

pulapula · 03/09/2009 21:24

Jennster- i thought it was just me but i was trying to amend my tesco order for my hol on Sat and it was not working properly. grrrr. must remember to do it tomorrow.

Jennster · 03/09/2009 21:33

B%%%%%% TESCO

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 03/09/2009 21:46

Jennster lol!! Next time I'm in the Hyper-U (prob tomorrow), I shall be swaggering along, 'Pamplemousse, Ananas, Soup de Jour, Jacques Cousteau, BAGUETTE'. I love FOTC.

No online shopping here and everything shuts 12.00-14.00 and nothing open on a Sunday. I think that will take some getting used to. Also, there is no school on a Wednesday so I get to spend more time with my kids

Grumpy.... fromage, gauloises, gitanes, (eh, they're all cigs, oops) edithpiaf, ooh la la, sparadrap (I was very chuffed to remember the French for a plaster in my oral gcse. Should have seen me in my A level - the examiner asked me what I was going to do after leaving school, and I said I was going to be a nurse and the topic of HIV and AIDS came up (very forward thinking, this was 1990) and I forgot the French for 'needle' - bless the examiner, as it was all recorded, he was pretended to inject himself by miming etc etc. I got it in the end.)(AND I got an A in the oral, fnar!) Oui, oui. We had a French patient on our ward a few years ago, and I saw them daily, and wrote out a very detailed care plan en francais re all stuff that was needed eg "faire du pis pis" (urine sample) "la tension" (blood pressure) ... was a bit trickier when I had to talk about side effects of her meds for her brain tumour. Good job our consultant was fluent French. I just remember the Dad saying all the time "oui? Vous etes certaine?" Ummm... Ooooh Grumps, am soooo jealous! Where are you? I want to visit NOW Can't wait to see the website.

Jennster - I have recently discovered Ocado. Siiiiiigh. And relax

I can't remember when I first came onto this discussion group, but looking back I joined MN in December, so missed the first few months. Remember getting the BFP. I practically poo'd myself. M wasn't, ahem, totally planned. Minute I saw it say 'pos' I thought 'shit, my Mum is going to kill me' What an eejit. At my age. Gah. She was a bit funny at first, me being unmarried and only with dp for 8 months [shock[ (quelle horreur!) (can you detect the sarkiness?) but now she dotes on M and can't get enough of her. Shame about some other people in my life. My auntie has disowned me. Seriously. Ah well.

Zut alors, je suis knackered. Je pense que il est time pour lit. Bonne nuit x

llareggub · 03/09/2009 22:18

There is a distinctly french smell here ce soir!

I did very well in my French oral. I used to be a ski instructor at a dry ski slope and used to teach very small children. One of those children was French and I used to practice my French on him and his mother. I gabbled away (badly) with her every Saturday for 6 months.

Guess who was the examiner for my French oral? Mais oui! So we sat in the exam and I gabbled away talking about her little boy. Of course I might not have done brilliantly but I didn't feel nervous.

Grumpy we'll definitely book to come out to you, if you'll take us of course! Where are you anyway?

I'm off to a Boden shopping party tomorrow to replace the clothes I've sold on ebay. Seriously, I have 4 items of clothing in my new size: a pair of jeans, a dress, a black pair of work trousers and a t-shirt bought in 2004. I've either ebayed, binned, or given away by size 16, 18 and 20 clothes. I'm bidding on a cardigan and a pair of jeans (all new) on ebay and can't wait to get out of these baggy clothes.

Right, back to the ironing.

Sausage I can't believe your aunt. Her loss though isn't it?

FiByTheSea · 03/09/2009 22:45

Yay grumpy glad you're settling in & jennster LOL at the video!

My French is a bit rusty i'm afraid.. much better at reading and understanding it that remembering what to say at first! I must have my rude hat on tonight as the phrase 'french oral' made me smirk

sausage is your aunt one of the elderly variation... I find the very much older generation far less tolerant on the sex before marriage business. Shame though as she's the one that'll miss out.

Well being on two forums is keeping me v busy now. I'm just about getting to grips with a whole new lingo about emigrating too. So many abbreviations! I have had some really lovely people reply to my inane questions so far and the more I hear the more I think YES this is the right decision. Just hope I like it as much when we're doing our reccie next spring .

In the mean time here... I got the letter from our local council to register DS for our choice of primary school in sept 2010. I am going to check out the ones i short-listed from the Ofsted and Value added info. But i'm wondering... those of us with dc's already in primary school what questions should I be asking when I go to view the schools? Any advice on what to look for? This is all new to me and have to make our final choice by 23rd October!

sausagenmash · 03/09/2009 22:52

Oooooooh llare I love Boden! Am just looking at their website! And, pffft re my aunt. She's a vicar as well. Honestly. I did a 'AIBU' I think it was in January about it. I was really upset about it at the time. I even got a snippy card from her after M was born: "Saus (not Dear Saus, or Dear Saus, Mr Saus and mini Saus, just Saus) - I hear from my sister you have had a baby girl. I trust all is well. It is a shame you did not feel you could not tell me yourself. Auntie vache (hehe)" This was after seeing her on Boxing day at my parents and she completely ignored me and dp - literally. He put his hand out to shake her hand, she looked at him, and walked straight past. Fortunately my parents now don't want anything to do with her. After she left I spent the rest of boxing day bawling my eyes out. Cow. She has sent my brothers (who are in their 40s) birthday cards with cheques in this year, and ignored mine. Ah well. AND she has lived with her female 'friend' for the last 40 odd years. Not that I give a stuff, but its a bit much if she thinks I'm a wrong 'un for not being married and having a baby!!! AARGH. Families. Needless to say, she ain't coming along to MY forthcoming nuptials! Sheesh. No wonder I have PND.

Brr I'm freezing. Bed time for me. Back home, so hopefully no more spiders!!!

llareggub · 03/09/2009 22:53

Woohoo!

We can have a French meet-up next year and then a Canadian sojourn the following year.

Seriously fi, this is so exciting. I say you only regret what you don't do. You can always come home if it isn't for you, but really, it sounds fantastic there. Not sure if I mentioned it but my former work colleague emigrated to NZ earlier this year. She'd never been there either. Go for it!

sausagenmash · 03/09/2009 23:04

Fi know what you mean about your 'rude hat' - I've had many a smirk about me saying I got an A in my oral And I agree with llare - all so exciting for you! Am so !!

Momino · 03/09/2009 23:06

evening all. not even going to bother with french. I can understand it but Italian is my '2nd' language. and american.

grumpy, good to hear from you. have been wondering and hoping you're well - sounds like you are, thank goodness.

sausage, your aunt .

here's a funny story: my BIL and wife are due in Oct and are going to nhs a/natal courses. in one class, they were asked what they knew about induction and one partner said, 'they use pig sperm' . the MW apparently replied that there was always one person in one class who said something memorable she could repeat in future classes as a joke...

FiByTheSea · 03/09/2009 23:30

been looking at property in Nova Scotia... look what you can get for £147,172.95 GBP! wow

llareggub · 03/09/2009 23:33

Off to browse that emigration website...

FiByTheSea · 03/09/2009 23:43

I should get to bed... stop googling and get some sleep... I just can't resist... most of the houses i've spotted depending on budget are both gorgeous and HUGE!

FiByTheSea · 03/09/2009 23:44

nighty night all
xoxox

Momino · 04/09/2009 07:37

good morning.
fi, wow! i should start looking to emigrate as well, so much space.

sausage, your aunt sounds like she has issues (to say the least).

well, have to go already; baby fed, 3 yr old now on my lap, need more coffee, have to get 2 yr old who's still in the cot as we won't move her to a bed until we have time to transfer dd's to the bigger room. whever will that be?

Have a good day all.

sophietom · 04/09/2009 08:24

fi nice house! Jacuzzi soaker tub- yum!

shame about your aunt sausage she is the one who will miss out. Families are funny things aren't they?
