Jennster · 02/09/2009 13:59

Nonsense rant that means nothing but is perhaps a little diverting.

You CAN'T bloody WASH dirty things with Febreeze. STUPID advert. And don't get me started on Postal Gold. Oh dear I've watched too much television.

Jennster · 02/09/2009 14:06

Spangle Lol at the bf story. I was bf dd2 at the christening and our 5 year old ex neighbour came over and asked if he could have some too. Can your ds sit up unaided? There would be no harm in seeing if ds can pick up the food himself.

pulapula · 02/09/2009 14:57

Another lot of jabs here today - DS2 had his 3rd set (lots of screaming ) but at least that's it til 12/13 months. Took DD to get some school shoes too - we were both very excited about it! DS2 woke up from his 3rd nap today screaming- not sure if it was because he was still tired, because of the jabs, because he was hungry or because he was windy. Sounded more like a pain cry but wish i was better at understanding him - he is nearly 4 months old now.

Momino · 02/09/2009 15:34

spangle, funny BF story. reminds me of what dd2 said at a farm we visited last weekend. we saw a huge pig who was laying, eyes closed whilst 4 piglets hungrily fed from her and dd2 said, 'just like mummy!' and pointed over at me whilst all onlookers laughed. poor mamma pig. it actually made me want to give up BF then and there.

looby, glad you found support at thr BF group. hope M is ok at her jabs.

cheese, thanks all for the advice. I'm going to grate/freeze some, make cheese scones, had 2 cheese sandwiches today and plan lots of lasagne, shepherds pie meals for the near future.

FiByTheSea · 02/09/2009 15:39

pula i'm still guessing with g's cries too.. process of elimination. The only one i do know for sure is the 'i've realised i'm starving all of a sudden' cry!

jennster those ad's drive me nuts too.

looby.. are you feeling a bit brighter after your cry? i always find it does me the world of good to let it all out.

jabs.. so hard to watch when G had her first lot last friday i kept my eyes shut while i held her

Momino · 02/09/2009 15:41

sporadic posts from me as i catch up.

febes/Pula, hope lo's better after jabs. pula, don't worry too much about not being able to understand the cries. I feel the same. sometimes i feel like H cries because I don't know how to manage/understand her. yesterday was a nightmare day with crying. this morning worse, this afternoon she's settled. i don't know what I'm doing or not doing. it must be a common feeling. try not to feel badly about it, it's all guesswork.

jennster, febreeze, hehe

SpangleMaker · 02/09/2009 15:43

Jennster no, he can't sit up yet and I don't think he has the dexterity yet either. I've been reading the BLW book and I don't think he's ready for weaning yet at all. I was being naughty really but I was curious to see what he thought of some different flavours.

I need to do a bit more reading around and talk to the HV, because I read that babies who are born prematurely miss out on building up stores of nutrients and so may need some solid food before they are developmentally ready for weaning IYSWIM. So if H is not ready to eat anything for himself by, say, 7.5m it may be I should spoon feed until he can feed himself. I don't think it's cut and dried though, and he seems to be on the borderline of what's considered premature and just 'early'. I don't know enough about it yet.

pula have you given S calpol? H was very cry-y a few hours after his jabs after being fine for a while. The first ones I didn't give him Calpol because it advised against it for early babies; the second time I left it too late and had to squirt the Calpol into his mouth during a scream (but it worked); the third time I got in there on time and he was fine.

FiByTheSea · 02/09/2009 15:56

momino at least you know what's bothering h now.

love the bf stories :-) children just say it as they see it don't they?!

YUK! our weather here atm is just terrible.. the rain is flinging it down and the wind is blasting it against our windows.

Momino · 02/09/2009 16:08

febes, btw, 10 x350g Wyke mature cheddar cost about £17, it was buy one get one free.

pulapula · 02/09/2009 16:10

spangle- I was about to reach for the calpol, but went for the gripe water first and he seemed to calm down with that, even though he didnt bring wind up. Sometimes i think his tummy must be hurting him.

My DS1 said something cute today. He was a late talker (he's 2.2 now) but has really come on. We've put some photos up on our landing of DD and DS1 when they were little. He pointed and said "who that baby?". I said "that's you B when you were a baby". And he said "no, not me, I'm big boy" .

LoobyLou36 · 02/09/2009 16:18

fibythesea yep I did feel better after my cry...nearly started one of the other mums off too - her little one had packed in BF last week at 11months so she was upset too

just back from jabs M screamed the place down but was fine after a BF in the waiting room. She fell asleep on the way home and is still asleep in her carseat now.Had M weighed whilst I was there she now weighs 13lb 12 and is nineteen wks tomorrow.

essenceofSES · 02/09/2009 16:21

LOL st Spangle's BF story and Jennster's rant!

Looby - hope you're feeling better. Re expressing, I still struggle to get more than 3fl.oz at a time but to begin with I struggled to get 1fl.oz I did find the electric pump easier to use and using it regularly first thing in the morning helped the amount I was getting gradually increase.

I just popped into town and bumped into an old schoolfriend who I haven't seen (only on FB) in 10yrs!! Was great to see her. She is single and no children but thought O was gorgeous. She works as a wardrobe mistress and has just been on tour in the states with Judas Priest and has previously done Dancing on Ice and Strictly tours. Next job is the Nolan sisters reunion tour!!!

Our colds are getting better although still a bit snuffly.

llareggub · 02/09/2009 16:31

ReeBee if you are breastfeeding you could try bathing his eye with EBM; it works miracles on sore eyes.

sophietom · 02/09/2009 16:48

LOL and at 'like a pig'!
I was bfing Jake at my friends house and her 3 year old kept bringing him various toys to look at and asking 'why isn't he looking?' I explained that J was having his lunch and couldn't look at the moment but he obv didn't understand bless him- the same little boy also asked whilst I was pg whether the baby could come out and play with him!
Jake keeps doing a low cry (like a tired cry) whilst putting his hands in his mouth- could it be teething he is only 12 weeks. He seems very fed up a lot of the time which isn't normal for him

runningmonkey · 02/09/2009 16:57

Hiya,
Just popping on for a quick hello while my brother has A asleep on his shoulder, am thinking of employing him as a nanny!

A had her 2nd set of jabs yesterday and is v crabby/sleepy as a result. The poor thing has a hideous bruise where one of them was done

spangle lol at bf story although when feeding A lying down I have commented to DH that I feel like a prize sow

Fi nice new name btw. Your move plans sound v exciting.

Looby I have also cried at bf group and found it v supportive, hope you feel better now. I'm going to give expressing another go as I would love to be able to do a night out but as still needing to feed every 2-3 hours can't yet. Am also going to go back on the fenugreek for a bit to see if I can up my supply a bit as I feel like A is sometimes looking for a feed but frustrated because she can't get much out.

momi sorry but lol at £17 worth of cheese At least its something versatile and freezable.

Jennster I have a pathological hatred of febreeze. The other advert that really gets me is that new go compare one... am getting just thinking about it!

ses glad your cold is getting better

Waves at everyone else x x

SpangleMaker · 02/09/2009 17:01

I was just thinking, it's a year since we got our positive tests - wow. Feels like a loooong time ago.

pulapula · 02/09/2009 17:06

spangle- I agree- was that only a year ago?- seems a lifetime away.

llareggub · 02/09/2009 17:08

I got my positive test on the 31st August. We'd decided to have a break from TTC after 2 very early miscarriages when a pregnancy test popped through the door. I'd applied to test a new pregnanvy test through mumsnet. I opened it up and it occurred to me that it had been a very long time since my period. I honestly hadn't noticed so the positive test was a real shock.

Thanks for all of your good wishes!

bfing so will type more later. x

pulapula · 02/09/2009 17:09

Re expressing- it really does get easier with practice. I have been expressing 9oz (260ml) every evening lately, but have wound it down this week as we are away next week and i decided i don't want to be expressing, sterilising, cleaning bottles etc. So i've gradually expressed less, and BF more so think things have balanced back out. We are planning one evening out whilst PIL babysit, so i plan to take one bottle and some formula in case of emergencies!

essenceofSES · 02/09/2009 17:21

Wow! 9oz Pula is v impressive! I think I could get more if I did it every day but had a big break from it recently when DH's parents were staying. We have a new little freezer in the garage so I'm trying to build up stocks!

Lovely remembering this time last year and all the BFPs. I remember having a long drive back from work one Friday of 90mins and persauding myself that I had all sorts of symptoms. Then 10 mins before I got home, I persauded myself it was all in my head and too early.
When I got in the door, DH commented on how cute a baby was on the telly so I told myself to just do a test and it was +ve!! I was so scared and excited all at once, I didn't tell DH until I'd done another test the next morning!!

Right off to try and make a pork and apple casserole! Have loads of apples from our trees. If anyone's passing through East Surrey and wants some apples, I have too many to know what to do with and don't want to waste them!!

Reggiee · 02/09/2009 18:48

A year ago yesterday I got my bfp thanks to the MN freebie pg test . I think our very own Spangle was one of the first to congratulate me. Ahhh

SpangleMaker · 02/09/2009 19:04

Reggiee it's so long ago I've forgotten, but were you on the same TTC thread as me under a different name?

I do remember 2 other MNers tested the same morning as me, one had a -ve, the other a +ve but turned out to be an early mc/chemical pregnancy. DH was in the shower when I showed him the test. He seemed a bit underwhelmed so I had to come on MN to share the excitement! My BFP was with the freebie too.

Reggiee · 02/09/2009 19:22

Spangle - 'twas me! I was SlippersandPipe (quite like that name. Makes me feel old and wise )

Casserole in (made earlier whilst B watched. What an exciting day). Need to go and pop sweet potato wedges now. Just spotted it's a casserole day in the SES household too. Beef Bourginoine here. Must be a crap weather type dinner.

Hello everyone else. Name check amnesty please. I am too lazy tired.

llareggub · 02/09/2009 19:27

I'm sure those freebie tests were magic. I remember so many people having BFP at the time with then.

We're lazy here today: macaroni cheese and broccoli for us.

Don't know what to do tomorrow. If it rains I shall probably explode with frustration!

SpangleMaker · 02/09/2009 19:33

Reggiee thought that was you! Yep you got your BFP the day before me - I just had a look at the old thread.
