Looby Sound advice from Febes there. I concur!

I'm in the middle of not packing. Long car journey tomorrow. There is so much to do I don't know what to do first. Hopefully the weather next week will be nice.

LoobyLou36 · 11/09/2009 19:55

thanks for all the advice

I feel as tho I've fed M on and off pretty much continually all day - come 7pm she was still rooting for more but no joy so ended up giving her some formula

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 11/09/2009 20:07

running That distractibility (you know what I mean ) is very common from this age I think. I do think that sometimes los feed a bit less because of it. C is starting to do it too. I can't talk while feeding or she comes off. Unfortunately the dcs are in the habit of shouting from some other part of the house to me to ask me something, generally just when I'm feeding C. If I don't answer they end up shouting even more, so I end up shouting back and C obviously doesn't like it. I think it would be very interesting to see what a lactation consultant has to say. As for introducing a bottle feed. I must second Tummum and say that evening might not be the best time to start. In the evening babies are more tired + they need the special bf cuddle more than during an awake daytime feed. I give C a bottle (of EBM) couple of times a week to keep her in the habit of using a teat and I find that her mid-morning feed or a feed just after a nap work best.

looby don't worry. It's early days with your plan. Try and do a bit of expressing in the night. Also, C keeps rooting and rooting after a feed sometimes, but not because she's hungry, but because she's actually quite enjoying herself and doesn't want to let go. She gets really angry when in the end I do prise her off, but soon settles. Maybe M is a bit like that?

grumpy Fantastic another rolling baby!

llare at the sitting. He must be so strong.

No rolling or sitting here. Just sit ups and leg ups . She is a real chatterbox though, so I think that'll be her strength. When I talk to her I can often see her lips move along as if she's trying to imitate me. Really funny.

high chair We've got a high chair in the loft at the other house. It doesn't recline and C is nowhere near sitting, so I can't just use it yet. She loves sitting with us at the table though and so I spend a lot of meals with her on my lap.

gert I get worst case scenarios popping into my head all the time too. My latst worry was "will I get everyone out in case of a fire?" A few months ago I was watching "Loose Women" and they were discussing what motherhood does to you. One of the loose women said exactly what you said. So I think it's very normal and very common. Maybe nature's way to make sure we keep our babies safe?

Has anyone else's lo started to show the 1st signs of separation anxiety? C seems to cry when I leave the room lately and I get a big grin when I come back. So I've started to carry her around with me a lot more again. I can see more housework with a sling coming.

Double post, but it's MN's fault. When I clicked post it said that I couldn't post a blank message. Now TBH my mamoth post doesn't look very blank, so I went back and clicked post again and now there's 2 mamoth posts.

Belgianchocolates · 11/09/2009 20:58

I think "mammoth" should have 2 m's.

Momino · 11/09/2009 21:01

grumpy, S rolling over hurrah!!

llareggub, G sitting up Hurrah again!!

looby, i'm feeling a bit like you. seems i've been feeding all day and by the end of it, H still didn't seem satisfied. I think I'll go to the BF clinic next thu to ask advice. H just never seems happy on the boob. in any case, she looks like she's gained a lot lately with some new rolls of fat in her newly chunky legs, so that makes me smile.

like gert/jael/reebee, maybe I should just give in to the fact she gets up twice a night. thankfully, she falls asleep right after a feed so I won't complain further. but, she slept through the night for most of the 1st 3 months. what happened?

i hope tummum is ok.
hope everyone else is doing well tonight.
grumpy, did you eat that squirrel?

Momino · 11/09/2009 21:04

belgian, i think H had a bit of separation anxiety today. i just couldn't figure out what was wrong with her but it all stopped when i picked her up or showed her attention.

very frustrating today. i think i'll use the sling as well.

Momino · 11/09/2009 21:15

running, am going to try fenugreek as well.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 11/09/2009 21:23

momi you blimmin' squirl-eatin' Redneck!

Just trying to catch up, have been busy posting on threads about cat names (I don't have a cat ) and spiders.

I HAVE ANOTHER BOOKING FOR MY B&B!!!!!!!

I'm in business baybeeeeeeee!!!!

OP posts:
Momino · 11/09/2009 21:34

grumpy, I'll come to stay. oh, just remembered. holiday money has gone to the kitchen.

will have to check out the cat name thread. must be intriguing. we had a cat named Shakespeare. Wilhelmina shakespeare. she lived to be 21. bless her.

Belgianchocolates · 11/09/2009 21:34

Yay grumpy a booking how exiting. You'll be able to use all that lovely linnen from your lovely organised linnen cupboard. I posted on the cat name thread too, but then I do actually own a cat, so it's ok for me

fenugreek If anyone's interested I've got an unopened bottle of fenugreek capsules sitting in my cupboard.

momi New rolls of fat on H. She's definitely having a growth spurt. Also, that's exactly what C's been doing the last few days: being unhappy until I go and chat to her or pick her up. It's a shame, because it was so usefull to be able to just put her under her gym and let her play while I did stuff around the house.

SpangleMaker · 11/09/2009 21:37

distraction H is a bugger for this . I can't really feed him when we're out unless I can go somewhere quiet. Even if I'm at home, if DH walks in he pulls off & won't go back on. I'm sure people think I'm embarrassed to bf in public but it's not that at all. I'm so of mums with babies who just latch on and off they go.

rolling over H did it (back to front) for the 2nd time ever today, and I missed it again, bah! He looked really chuffed with himself. He can't sit up on his own yet. His latest hobby is thrashing about, pushing his feet down & bottom up (as if he's going to do a 'crab') which kind of propels him backwards.

Gert my main fear is falling over or down the stairs. I know someone it happened to when their baby was about 6m and she (baby) ended up with a broken arm. I think they were glad it wasn't any worse though.

I don't know about separation anxiety as such, but H is a lot less tolerant of being held by people other than me or DH. He also had a funny thing the other day when 2 NCT mums & babies were here. He was having a nap in his cot when they arrived. When he woke up I fed him then brought him into the living room, where he looked around at everyone for a moment or two then started screaming! It took about 10 min before I could bring him into the room with the others. Must teach him some manners!!

Belgianchocolates · 11/09/2009 21:52

spangle Falling down stairs is my longest running mummy fear. For 2 reasons: what if I fall down the stairs and break my neck while DH is away. Who will find me and will I survive. (Now there's an irrational fear for you.) The other one is what if I fall with C in my arms. One of DH's friends did that and the baby fractured it's scull . Luckily he's OK now.
Sounds like H has got a fear of strangers, Spangle. Apparently it's a "good thing", because it means he's becoming cleverer

Belgianchocolates · 11/09/2009 21:54

My telly is still now working properly so I'm still wasting spending my nights on tinternet and MN. I'm currently having fun putting Dutch phrases into Babelfish and see what kind of hilarious English translations it comes up with. Good fun, but it is a sign that I need to get a life

Belgianchocolates · 11/09/2009 21:56

Hehe, even simple sentences it can't do. "Claire plays with the baby gym" became "Claire play high school with the baby" It even uses bad grammar and everything!

SpangleMaker · 11/09/2009 22:08

Belgian brings to mind my hilarious French-to-English translation in my O level exam (French was my worst subject!). I couldn't make sense of it so I thought I would just write what I thought the words meant, rather than trying to make sense, hoping that I would get some marks for the words that were right.

I wrote something like 'Marie-Claire went to the market. She hid behind a large basket then rolled down the hill. The dustbin was full. Marie-Claire had enough fish, but needed more bread. She was afraid of lettuce.' I had to stop myself laughing out loud in the exam

Belgian I received an email from my bank manager here. I think he'd used Babelfish too! See what I mean?

"If they miss them a paper it's not important.

If the meeting(appointment) is not convenient for you I can change him(it)

I you will declare a sponsoring, you will be entitled to a present."

I would rather type in my pidgin French, I had an excellent 'Franglais' conversation with said Bank Manager, very enjoyable. The fact that he is handsome and muscular is not important . He was delighted to learn the words 'income'. I can sense that word being incorporated. I've learnt a few new words/phrases as well, I'm enjoying just asking questions of the French, they are so proud of their language!!
