WFH - that sounds perfect... I wish I had someone like that to get to babysit for O. I'd feel ok about leaving him with my mum but she lives 2.5 hours drive away oh well, we'll get a life again one day...

BTW, O also has 2 little teeth showing through under the gum at the bottom... he's chomping on EVERYTHING, dribbling loads, bright red cheeks and has nappy rash for the first time in ages... why does nappy rash go with teething? Someone told me it did but I can't work out why it would??

SpringySponge · 28/08/2009 20:33

Still just snatching bits of time from the angry jaws of my whingy baby

Nappy rash goes with teething because when the embryo is first forming it is a sort of doughnut shape - the hole becomes the basis of the digestive system, so the mouth & anus are originally made from exactly the same cells. Something similar to that, anyway. Apparently there was a baby born in America whose teeth cut in their bottom instead of their mouth. Eek.

WFH, I saw Bill Bailey a couple of years ago - he was very good.

My mum's having George overnight on Tuesday so we can have a night in a hotel together for some adult time. It's tragic that I no longer think 'yay sex!', but 'sleeeeeeeeeep! oh God, sleeeeeeeeeeep!'. Maybe some sex too, though

I'm relieved that you all remember who I am - it's been far too long!

PuzzleRocks · 28/08/2009 20:51

Who said that?

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 28/08/2009 21:00

All this talk of weaning got me off my arse - pic of customised Tripp Trapps on my profile! Orbit has been dying to sit at the table with us for ages, he sits in his bouncy chair and squawks at mealtimes until I put him on my lap, so now he can sit up with us and play with some spoons while we eat.

Springy I'd never heard that explanation about nappy rash before, how weird! I was told it was because all the extra dribble means their wee is more concentrated, thus more acidic on their poor bottoms. Maybe that's just rubbish then. Or I suppose they could both be true?

A night in a hotel with no children ....lucky you! Am

I first saw Bill Bailey in (gulp)1994? Either 94 or 95 when he was doing comedy in little tiny venues with 30 people in the audience. He was hilarious, even then. He did a song about the way people write on internet forums that had me absolutely killing myself - lots of LOL, PMSL, LMAO, and finally ROFLYSST. Anyone want to guess what that last one is?

bebemoo · 28/08/2009 21:01

Ah Springy so that's 3 of the 4...now we just need Nutty back Welcome back

By the way Auld that was one of the other things from my lazy 'not catch up' that I wanted to mention. Your baby is cute too As is your elder child

WFH sounds lovely

And when I saw Bill Bailey I saw Bailey's Irish cream and I was very confused with the rest and following posts...what's on my mind?

PuzzleRocks · 28/08/2009 21:05

Roll on the floor laughing you silly, silly twat?

PuzzleRocks · 28/08/2009 21:06

Rolling on floor laughing yet still somehow texting

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 28/08/2009 21:11

Spot on Puzzle! Rolling on floor laughing yet somehow still typing You get a chocolate olive as a prize.

Made me LOL.

I can't get on with those acronyms, especially when you see people on Facebook using LOL every other word, who clearly have no idea what it actually stands for!

PuzzleRocks · 28/08/2009 21:30

Do I have to have a chocolate olive? Chocolate orange is more up my street.

dawntigga · 28/08/2009 21:54

bicnod hobnobs of any descriptions is the food of the devil!!!!!

moo it is surprising how many hv's subscribe to 'that womans' view on how to bring up children.

Sam LOVES his jumperoo even though he's a little bit small for it.

dawntigga · 28/08/2009 21:56

StillFeelingThePainTiggaxx

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 28/08/2009 22:10

I remember it well from DS1 Tigga - am steeling myself for the first time he chomps with one of those razor sharp little new teeth.

Luckily DS1 only did it twice, think my yell of pain scared the life out of him!

Chocolate orange it is, Puzzle.

BoffinMum · 28/08/2009 22:44

OOOOOH, fun people returning to thread!! That's not to say the rest of us aren't fun as well, but you know what I mean.

If you have a mo, could you cast an eye over the nasty letter I am thinking of sending to Unprofessional Nanny and give feedback? DH and I are in two minds about whether to send it or not, and whether we've got the tone right.

Here

kazkiss · 29/08/2009 00:13

good tip for those who have babies too small to reach the floor in there jumperoos, Use the wii fit balance board underneath them! perfect!

(really does work) and if you turn it on you might get a good score!

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/08/2009 08:36

Orbit is sitting up! Well, ok, so he can only balance for about ten seconds before he leans forward or sneezes and goes flat on his face, but he is definitely sitting independently for brief periods.

I think he is a sedentary child - if he's on his front he does try to crawl, but still cries really quickly to be picked up. But sitting clearly appeals to him greatly!

NellyNoKnicks · 29/08/2009 08:37

Morning all, was just wondering because I'm going on my first girlie night out in what seems like forever. Does anyone know how much I can have to drink before it affects my milk?

I obviously would like a drink because it's been over a year since I had more than a thimble full but don't want to overdo it and have to rely on formula (as I haven't got a massive stock of breastmilk in the freezer - in fact I don't have any).

I know it's a bit early to be thinking about booze so apologies

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/08/2009 08:43

Not too early at all Nelly, we've all been boozing away too!

I was told that about 2% of what you drink gets into your bm, but also that the levels in your milk fluctuate in line with your blood alcohol level. i.e. if your body processes one unit of alcohol an hour (average, apparently) then if you have one unit of alcohol, your bm will contain 2% of that straight after you drank it.

But an hour later, your bm will have no alcohol in it at all - you don't have to pump and dump it at all as long as you're close to sober next time you feed, if that makes sense?

Kellymom has some useful info on this - good rule of thumb is if you're too drunk to drive, you're too drunk to bf.

Have a lovely night out!

NellyNoKnicks · 29/08/2009 08:45

wow you must be so proud.... I cant get josh to even contemplate crawling, he just lies there crying because he hates being on his front

I'm hoping he just goes straight onto walking because his legs are really strong and have been for a few months now and because he hates being on his front so much.

NellyNoKnicks · 29/08/2009 08:47

OOO thank you... I'll have a couple, mixed with some soft drinks and just hope for the best.... I doubt I'll need much more than 2 anyway

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/08/2009 09:15

I find the idea of drinking more than a couple is generally held in check by the prospect of having to get up in the morning and be Mummy! Horrible looking after DCs with a hangover, puts me right off

Bicnod · 29/08/2009 09:25

WFH PMSL "Not too early at all Nelly, we've all been boozing away too!" - I assumed Nelly meant too early in the morning so you make us sound like a bunch of winos

Boff - I've read your letter and I think it sounds incredibly professional and will definitely make her shake in her boots silly moo. Are you planning to go through with taking her to the small claims court? I don't care what the other people on that thread say, she must have realised she was dropping you in it big time, she just didn't care.

Nelly - it takes about a glass and a half of red wine for me to have a hangover these days very depressing, but at least I'm a cheap date.

WFH - very impressed with Orbit's sitting - I'm going to try that with Oscar later and see what happens (I reckon he'll probably faceplant).

Update on the weaning saga... it seems to be having a positive impact on sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeep... he's gone from waking 3 or 4 times in the night to feed to only waking once. Last night he slept from 7pm until 4am (that is the longest he has EVER done), fed and then went back to sleep until 6.45am. The HV really upset me yesterday as she said I would be giving him a tummy ache by giving him baby rice but he seems so much happier and so much more settled - and he's still feeding just as much during the day.

Oh god - I'm going to have to crack open the hobnobs again if I don't change the subject... (which, by the way Tigga, are the food of the gods, not the devil).

Got O weighed yesterday and he is (at just under 18 weeks) 19lb 2oz. Ridiculous child. He is known by all our friends as TFB (The Fat Baby).

Springy - sex??? what the hell is that???

Right - off to enjoy the sunshine x x

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/08/2009 10:05

is noone else drinking yet today then? Oh dear....

ah yes, I assumed too early in the baby's life, but clearly too early in the morning. Oooops.

Hooray for O sleeping better! Must be a huge relief.

Orbit faceplants all the time, but he is definitely managing some short periods of balancing in a sitting position. Trouble is, I have to be with him all the time as he is the nosiest baby ever - always wants to know what's behind him or behind you or over there, so he LEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNS over and then crashes to the floor. Put him in his new highchair today and he spent the whole time trying to see what was behind it.

bronze · 29/08/2009 10:36

It wouldn't surprise me if Boff turned to drink. I would be bald in her shoes.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 29/08/2009 11:21

I'm trying to picture you being bald in Boff's shoes, bronze. It's peculiar.

phdlife · 29/08/2009 11:28

just thought I'd swing by and wave hello to you lot

strangely enough have also been stuffing my face nibbling chocolate mud cake all day so amusingly odd to find this thread title - must be the phase of the moon or something

Baccalaureat (dd) has decided to add a night feed or two . Because she is clearly starving to death up there on the 97th centile . And we are having a stinking heat wave so GCSE (ds, 2.4) keeps waking up for drinks too. Pass the matchsticks pls...
