I read this on a packet of Hobnobs today:

"Milk Chocolate Hobnobs can be enjoyed as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle"

Feierabend · 01/09/2009 19:54

I''m glad WFH I do like them.

Bicnod I am Schulte. A very tired one too.

Swaliswan · 01/09/2009 20:12

Please can someone put me out of my misery over here. DH and I are exhausted and need a plan to get through our potty training nighttime hell. I'm off to bed now as I'm not well.

Night, night x

PS DD1 is in pull ups at night and has the potty in her room if that helps at all.

bronze · 01/09/2009 20:16

no idea I only just loosely training dd and shes just turned (a very young ) 3

Bicnod · 01/09/2009 20:30

AHA! - hello to the artist formerly known as Schulte

WFH - excellent. Do you think that goes for an entire LARGE bar of divine dark chocolate as well? Eek. Also, do you think you really HAVE to have the healthy diet and lifestyle to enjoy the hobnobs because I'm not sure my lifestyle could be described in that way right now but I still enjoyed the hobnobs - how is this possible?

Bicnod · 01/09/2009 20:38

by the way - so far the Teetha granules have had a better hit rate than the Ashton and Parsons ones... only done two of each though...

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 01/09/2009 21:39

I always found the Teetha worked better than A&P Bicnod - depends on the baby though, I expect.

I have given up on my chocolate consumption being compatible with any kind of healthy lifestyle. I don't think there is a lifestyle that can handle a whole packet of Hobnobs and large quantities of Green & Blacks every day. Ah well.

Poor Orbit is currently being rocked to sleep in his buggy - one tooth is through but the second is giving him real trouble, poor lamb. He's had Teetha and Calpol and is still miserable, so it's slightly upright in the buggy and Daddy is pushing him back and forth.

That boy is so definitely not ready for solids though - I gave him Calpol on a spoon earlier as I couldn't find my syringe, and his tongue thrust is so strong still that I could not get the Calpol to stay in at all! Had to go find the syringe, and even then had to tip him right back so gravity forced him to swallow. Am very impressed with babies guzzling porridge and rice, looks like Orbit might be another late starter on that front.

gingersarah · 01/09/2009 21:56

Thanks everyone for the reassurance on the food thing. I would love it if V never had to have formula but I am not sure how I will get on with providing enough bm for her if I am not with her in the daytime. At the moment I am finding it hard to express - it only works if I have V on one side and the pump on the other, as I have a very choosy let down, it seems, that needs a real baby suckling. But now she is big she keeps kicking the pump away, and I can't hold it & pump with just one hand.

These are the kinds of problems you are having, yes, Gui? What kind of pump do you have?

I feel your pain with this top up thing - babies are not the passive little things some people seem to think and I can't think how you can force more milk into a baby that says it has had enough. Best of luck! I suspect the problem is that H is aware of all the lovely things you are always making out of real food and is holding out for some of that.

AuldAlliance · 01/09/2009 21:56

Ooh, Teetha is available on Amazon. Surely customs wouldn't think it was drugs then?

Ta for replies to my feeble oven problem, folks.

Hope Orbit feels better soon, WFH.

Those labels about healthy lifestyles are such a load of supposedly reassuring bollox, aren't they? It just means that if you eat well, the odd hobnob won't do that much damage, I suppose.
I have been eating loads of biscuits and ice cream and I have dropped to below 54kg.
How many packets of chocolate biscuits can one BFing mother eat in a day?

BoffinMum · 01/09/2009 22:03

After three days of one bowl of porridge a day with a mashed banana chaser, and about 95 bf a day, it's becoming pretty obvious that Felix is still hungry, so we're going to have to try him with two meals tomorrow. How do you think he might take to Beef Wellington?

WFH, DS1 wasn't much of an eater, and didn't really bother until about 9 months old when he started nursery and they introduced him to cake . He hasn't looked back since!! (with regard to cake, that is).

Now, good news. I have won a weekend away in a MN competition. That has cheered up the Boffin household no end after all the trials and tribulations of this week! I am thinking of buying a lottery ticket tomorrow!!!

BoffinMum · 01/09/2009 22:05

AA, you cow, I am 92 kilos. How can you only be 54???? And I don't eat much sweet stuff at all!!!!!

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 01/09/2009 22:11

Oooh, where is your weekend away? Am very , DP worked most of the BH weekend with the intention that he'll take two lieu days and we'll have a long weekend soon, but don't know where to go.

Sounds like Felix is ravenous! Orbit is a bit off his milk due to teeth pain. He has however found out what his teeth are for - bitten me twice today while feeding. OUCH!

DS1 is now a good eater, but it did take him a while to take an interest. Mind you, Orbit tried to steal my redcurrant tart today, so maybe he'll do ok.

AuldAlliance · 01/09/2009 22:14

Ooh, Boff, where are you going??

It is really unfair about the weight, I know. Sorry.
And I don't quite know how I have lost so much. Though looking at Alex there does seem to be a direct transfer going on.
Maybe it's all the sweating in the heat as well?

BoffinMum · 01/09/2009 22:50

Maybe Suffolk. I am soooooooo excited!!!!! It really has cheered me up no end. The kids did a lap of honour around the house when I told them!!!!!!!!

BoffinMum · 01/09/2009 22:52

Off to bed now. DS1's first day at secondary school tomorrow! He washed his armpits four times in readiness, and used a facepack. I am sure that will help him get some GCSEs!!!!

dawntigga · 02/09/2009 08:01

Waves to all - Sam has his 16 week injections today

Have roped in dp as I can't face them alone - Sam will be fine after they are finished, I will be a wreck!

NotLookingForwardToTodayTiggaxx

FrogmellaMoonbeam · 02/09/2009 08:04

Aww bless him! He obviously has his priorities in the correct order! Hope it all goes ok for him. (Me and secondary school didnt get on at all. I did 1/2 a term and then was home educated till I was 15.)

FrogmellaMoonbeam · 02/09/2009 08:05

Its really not nicwe is it Tigga. Good luck and Im sure he will be fine (are the 16 wk ones the 3 injections?)

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 02/09/2009 08:44

Morning! Good luck with injections Tigga

Orbit still teething so not a good night. Plus my alarm clock woke us up 30 minutes early as for some reason the time on it is wrong. It's one of those radio controlled jobs though, so how can it be wrong? And I have no idea how one sets it, seeing as it's meant to set itself.

A confusing morning, punctuated by Orbit screeching at the top of his lungs. Thank goodness he's asleep now, and DS1 is at nursery. Peace and quiet reigns.

Boffin - good luck to DS1 at secondary! I'm sure fragrant armpits will see him through the day no problem

JumeirahJane · 02/09/2009 08:51

WFH - ooh IKWYM about the screeching, crikey, I know they're supposed to experiment with sounds, but why that one first thing in the morning? EEEEEEEEEE

GL with the injections Tigga, horrible things, nasty nurses, I'm sure they do it to see the mummies cry.

Boff, wow secondary school, BIG day for him, hope all goes smoothly.

Well I've been vomited on 4 times already this morning, and I'm not expecting any visitors, sod it, I'm going to slum it in this outfit til DH gets home.

JumeirahJane · 02/09/2009 08:56

oh and don't worry about the vomiting, she's what they call a happy vomiter! Usually when very excited about something, in this case, watching the washing machine go round with Pooh and Tigger in it

Feierabend · 02/09/2009 11:07

Ginger, Gui, try holding your babies in the rugby hold while you express on the other side. No kicking the pump, no naughty hands getting in the way.

Ginger, older babies still need a pint of milk a day but I seem to remember yoghurt and cheese and the cow's milk on their weetabix can replace some of the breast milk so you might get away with not using formula, as long as you still feed in the morning and at night.

Auld I want to be below 54kg too! It's what I weighed when I was 21.

Boff, weekend away where? LOL at your son.

WFH sorry Orbit is suffering so much with his tooth. Hope it comes through soon.

Tigga good luck with the injections.

Feierabend · 02/09/2009 11:09

I just finished off the old thread

mrsgboring · 02/09/2009 11:27

morning all

been to docs with e as he's been miserable with a cold and it's his op next week. all well thank goodness.

ds1 back to nursery today so things a little easier but my consumoption of sweet things knows no bounds.

catch u[ properly soon

Guimauve · 02/09/2009 11:33

Feier, that seems so obvious now you've said it. Though I'm not a fan of rugby ball. He seems to have too much leg for that. Re: the formula refusal, I'm not sure if it's the bottle or the formula he's refusing. He has taken these bottles before without a problem with ebm. I think it may be the strange taste/ texture of the formula, as any that drips into his mouth he just lets sit there and dribble out (or am I just hoping he doesn't like it ?).
Will look for the low-salt stock cubes, thanks.

Tigga - quite fancy being a fembot! Hope injections were not too traumatic.

Brett - I won't give him a bottle when he's hungry. At the moment I'm trying to give him as much breast milk as possible, and then offer formula when he's done with that, to see if he is actually still hungry. I imagine he would take it if he was hungry, but then I'd just be replacing breast with bottle, and I don't see the point of that.

DH still thinks that it could be down to not-nutritious enough milk Has anyone ever come across any research etc suggesting bm can sometimes be 'poor quality'. I blame a stupid HV for putting the idea in his mind. Yesterday he likened it to living on McDonalds - 'You'd feel full, but still end up malnourished'. I know he means well, and doesn't mean to say upsetting things, but I told him how hurtful such comments were.

Bicnod - I think it's to do with the relative spreadability of jam and cream. Quite easy to smoosh clotted cream evenly over a jammy scone, but hard to get an even layer of jam over an already creamed one. And as for dried fruit, I'd put it in everything! I have been told that In Devon it's cream/ jam and in Cornwall jam/ cream. Is that nonsense?

Ginger - I have a Medela Swing, an electric one. I really wouldn't ever get round to it if it was manual. If the pressure is up high enough, it does stay on of its own accord, and then I can go hands-free, but I like to have it as low as possible. The only time I've ever got a good amount in a reasonable time has been immediately after sorting a locked duct, when I've pumped to relieve the pressure! I do hope he's just holding out for yummy food. I am unreasonably excited about the prospect of him eating! He is so keen to get a hold on what I'm eating/ drinking and experiment with it! He is absolutely fascinated by mugs of tea - going to be his Mother's son

Auld - I don't believe I've been 54kg since I was about, ooh, 12! I actually haven't been weighed since, I think, 2002. It's best not to know. If the clothes are too tight, ease off on the biscuits for a few days, that's what I do.

Boff - Hurrah for weekend away! And had I not been feeding H at the time, I would actually have ROFL'd at quadruple armpit washing and face mask application! I hope it goes well for him.
