There will be chocolate fines for the guilty!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi Swali! I've tried that, but I don't have enough hands! I usually need both hands to feed H, to keep The Naughty Hand under control, leaving nothing to hold the pump with. I suppose I could do some butchery with a nursing bra and create something to hold the pump. I also find that unless I'm perfectly upright, the bottle/ bags get in the way of H's legs, but he feeds better when I am fairly slouched (so that he has a nice tummy shelf to rest on ).
If I pumped two or three times daily I could get enough for one feed. Ho hum.

Has anyone else's baby managed to snort milk down their nose?

Bicnod how did you get on with the Teetha granules? I'm shovelling them into Orbit at the moment - one tooth is through but he's still working on the other one, poor lamb. More high pitched squealing!

Guimauve it doesn't sound to me like H needs any more milk - if he was hungry then he'd be chowing down the formula, surely? Think you've just got a slow grower (they're the best ones - DS1 is still a lightweight )

Also on the cooking without salt - if you cook everything without salt (which we did because DS1 was sharing our meals with BLW) it's amazing how quickly you get used to it and stop noticing. Also, DS1 loves garlic and chilli, we didn't ever make food bland for him, we just didn't put salt in. In fact, he can pack away DP's mega hot chilli without batting an eyelid, whereas I need loads of plain yogurt with it!

Sorry am no help on formula/water debates - DS1 had formula during the day from about 9 months, but I think I just made them up as I went along and didn't bother sterilising anything, and was bf at night.

Feierabend, how's DD1's nose? Hope it's feeling a bit better. Did you buy some nice pants?

gingersarah - the BLW mantra is 'Food is for fun, until they're one' - they don't actually need much solids for nourishment as long as they're still bf or drinking formula, so you don't have to worry about getting enough nourishment into them. DS1 didn't really start eating food properly until about 9-10months, which is when he was ready for it. (And that wasn't because of the BLW, because every so often we'd offer him pureed food, if we were out and that's all there was, for example, and he used to turn it down more often than not.)

frekkles - glad to hear your test was negative!

Feierabend · 01/09/2009 16:04

Pants: They had run out of the plain Mothercare ones so I got some more Charlie and Lola ones. Town was hell though, everyone seems to be shopping today.

Nose: Not sure, I haven't heard from nursery so assume she's fine.

Formula for Hugo: Gui is it the formula he's rejecting or the teat? Have you tried a sippy cup instead, or spoon feeding it to him? Last resort I guess would be to mix it with baby rice and spoon feed him.

'Food's for fun until they're one': Well my DD1 would have laughed in your face. She ate massive amounts right from the word go, had three large bowls of food plus snacks every day by the time she was 7 months old, and still had 3 or four milk feeds a day as well. So I think again it's a case of every baby is different - you won't know what your baby is like with food until you start them.

Salt: Have you tried the very low salt stock cubes from Waitrose, they are great.

You see all this formula malarkey is why I bf, I am far to lazy to do with all that! It's why we are going BLW - puree? I don't think so! I'm not going to all the trouble of cooking something to then have to smoosh it!

Sorry WFH didn't mean to sound harsh - I am very very tired today You are of course right in that formula / breast milk will still provide nutrients especially to those babies that aren't so keen on food. I might go and lie down if H lets me...

dawntigga · 01/09/2009 16:13

gui don't butcher a nice bra buy a cheap sports bra from Asda and cut an x in it - works a treat! You will look a little like a fembot mind.

Feierabend · 01/09/2009 16:14

Tigga are you going to post a fembot picture for us then?

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 01/09/2009 16:27

Don't worry Feier wasn't offended! You are of course also right in that some babies do enjoy their solids right from the word go. I was more trying to reassure gingersarah that if she did give BLW a go then V wouldn't starve.

Besides, there's no rule saying you can't do a bit of both.

Wasn't very clear in my post so you were right to pick me up on it - also tired, Orbit's teeth got me up in the night quite a few times.

And shopping the week the schools go back? Brave. Must have been horrid.

brettgirl2 · 01/09/2009 16:37

It says on cow and gate formula to not use boiling water because of the risk of scalding . I refuse to worry about the BPA thing generally. I use Boff's method always, it's about as time consuming as making a cup of tea.

OK confession time - Frekkles isn't the first to do a pregnancy test but thankfully mine was also negative . I'm just far more paranoid about getting pregnant than I was before haha.

Gui does H take a bottle when he is actually hungry or does he refuse all the time? I think it can be really hard to get bf babies to take bottles generally.

Feierabend · 01/09/2009 16:45

Oh that is why there were so many people in the shops! Doh. I don't know anything about how this country works still!

Pregnancy tests, ha ha, I don't get round to having sex!

dawntigga · 01/09/2009 16:55

Dear goddess, you people are having sex?????

What are you rabbits?

Don't you remember what got us into this mess in the first place?

Feira Robin won't take the picture! I say he's a prude

The thing is dawn, we don't go out as much as we used to

PuzzleRocks · 01/09/2009 17:13

Is it possible for your milk to diminish on one side? I think the left side has given up the ghost. Consequently it is a good two cup sizes smaller. I'm totally lopsided.

Hellllllllllllllllllp

Bicnod · 01/09/2009 17:18

Evening all

Teetha granules seemed to have a good effect, but not sure if it was just the shock of having some weird powder tipped into his mouth when he was howling (desperate times and all that...)

Bought some of the Ashton and Parsons today so will report back on those as well.

I can't believe how many people put the jam on first. Heathens.

Oscar just had two heaped teaspoons of baby rice mixed with EBM and gobbled it down like a starving child, even though he'd had a full milk feed only 30 minutes previously... what a little piggy I've discovered that giving him baby rice when he's hungry doesn't work as I can't get it into him fast enough, so has to be shortly after a feed.

Just gave him a bit of banana off my finger as well as I was eating one and he looked interested... he liked that as well... think I shouldn't do random weaning and should form some kind of plan now though.

He only woke once in the night last night - woop woop

So how long does the teething fairy hang around for? Hope its not too long as I might have to throw my son out of the window...

Bicnod · 01/09/2009 17:19

p.s. frekkles - pregnancy scare?! my god woman... i think DH and i have only done it about twice since O was born keep meaning to but then we get into bed and... fall asleep.

Bicnod · 01/09/2009 17:20

Puzzle - have you tried feeding first from the left side at each feed for a while to tell it to get its arse (can boobs have arses?) into gear and produce more milk? I did that for a while when I became a bit lop-sided and seemed to work...

Feierabend · 01/09/2009 17:21

Bicnod sounds like proper food really did it for little O then? So glad you're getting more sleep, I am not (yet...)

Bicnod · 01/09/2009 17:29

don't want to jinx it and it hasn't been every night but touch wood things are improving...

...feiera i'm really confused - who were you before you namechanged? have you said on fb?

bronze · 01/09/2009 17:54
