Blottedcopybook · 19/10/2009 09:41

Morning all!

Mind if I join you? My #2 (a boy, Nairn) was born on 5th March 2006

Frizbe · 19/10/2009 16:59

'ello Blotted didn't realise you were on here too!

nicnacinoonoo · 19/10/2009 17:49

no carnivals here but we're just down the road from blackpool so have the illuminations, tower, sea life centre etc. also have a farm right near our house which is open to the public for people to go around looking at the animals and kids can feed and pet them, plus tractor rides etc. they do a great santa's grotto with real reindeer at christmas.

UniS · 19/10/2009 20:46

I never got to Blackpool, Lived in Lancaster for two summers, but always went north for days off. The hills and crags were a bigger draw than the beach and roller coaster. DO like teh sound of teh illuminations tho. I liked Leeds christmas lights when we lived there and a i gather blackpool is much better.

I am indeed doing fireshow again. And this year I'm intending to knock a few nails into the set too, I can pop down and do and hour or so on the morning boy is at preschool in the village.

We have "micky monkey" the (city) preschool mascot home with us for a week ( tho as its half term it will be more like a fortnight) I think that monkey is going to go back to preschool for a rest. It has already been dragged round the supermarket.

Hey Frizbe! Yeah I'm usually hovering around the May 2009 threads though ;)

laundrylover · 19/10/2009 23:26

Oi you lot!! I miss a few days and we get 2 new members and a possibly another new Cadd- et. Friz is in the shop and Astro is officially a home ed-er. Uni is doing an outdoorsy activity involving wheels and a 'geo'??!!

Just back from committee meeting for Kiah's failing playgroup and am now secretary.

Should be in bed as have to be in Liverpool by 9am...

Oh round up - I have 2 girls aged 5 and 3 and work freelance as a consultant in the charity/social enterprise sector. DP is a handy man who is currently building our extension. We have a window and folding doors today - wahay!!.

I live near Manchester and am a bit fat but a bit fit too....I mean that as sporty fit, not 'well fit'!!

Astrophe · 20/10/2009 06:04

I think you're well fit LL Hurrah for dorrs and windows!

welcome blotted

No Illuminations or carnivals here! Actually, we have a carnival of sorts on Sunday - called Sydney Big Sunday - a new festival. We missed out on tickets (there were only 6000) to have a breakfast picnic on the harbour bridge, which they are covering in turf for the event! There are some other festival type things on around the city though, so we will go to something. Too light for illuminations now though - summer is coming on, getting hot here and I can't find DD's old baby clothes so will have to buy DD2 a whole new summer wardrobe.

DD vile again today We sent DS to my parents for a sleepover last night and had special time with DD - DH took her to a movie. she was lovely. Today, with DS back she is dreadful - rude, screamy, tantrums etc. So tired of this. Really hope this phase passes soon. She is banished to her room with story CD for the afternoon.

Frizbe · 21/10/2009 00:10

{{{Hugs}}} Astro, it's horrible when they go like that....the reward system seems to be working ok here, we've started doing points for being good at home,as school seem to have really tapped into it too, (they're doing a points thing at the moment with year 1, dd1 is in major competition with one of her friends to see who is bringing in the most each week points awarded for being the 1st to tidy up, shut up n sit down etc ) so we're doing it at home too, with generally good results, if she does a mario mushroom on the floor or screams/hits her sister, she looses all points and gets no prizes at end of week, and so far she seems to have stopped it!

LL, or should that be Secretary LL congrats on the doors and windows, I shall invite myself up next year when it all gets finished (nosey, nose!) or we could just meet at Chatsworth for a coffee (sigh, I've not been up there in ages)

Uni, oooh can we have pictures again, it looked great last year

Waves at Blotted, Nic and Caddy

Might not be on much over the next few days, have 'deep breath' workswimmingballetparentseveningtownfairworkendoftermconcert then flight to Germany for weekend of work at trade show....back next week! Oooh n hope you all spotted that Flame had a lovely bouncing baby girl 9lbs 9oz every body say ouch!

UniS · 22/10/2009 20:09

what exactly is "doing a mario mushroom" when its at home?

I think boy is over tired. He managed to howl, cry and whinge about "not being able to" take his shoes off ( a skill he had had for some months now) for as long as it took to cook spagetti tonight.

Just as well I hadn't tried taking him round a supermarket after preschool. we went to the park for an hour instead.

Fireshow webpage, has some pictures of teh build. I have avoided being in any pics so far,( by only doing a couple of hours work on it so far) back there tomorrow.

I took DD to an open evening tonight at the infant school she will probably be going to. She seemed quite impressed, especially with the home corner and toy shop. Have you all enrolled your DC yet?

UniS · 22/10/2009 21:03

open evening! crumbs...On line School enrolment form goes live in November in this county. Our only issue is do we just put one school ( teh village school) or do we do 1-3 choices as we are supposed to. Village school is the only one we could get to by walking ,any other would involve a journey of 4 miles each way with no public transport.

I supose we COULD go and look round teh village school again ( did it briefly before we moved here) but hes going there regardless ( unless we move again).

Right now I'm more interested in getting him down for some more sessions at preschool locally . I'd like to move to 3 sessions in village and 2 in city ( currently 1:4) . I'm told the sheet has been out ta village preschool all week, of course boy has a friday morning session only. just hope they are waiting till all requests are in before allocating places.

Astro at DD1 - makes it even worse somehow after a nice 'special time' eh? She WILL grow out of this!! Tilly had a massive tantrum at friend's last week as we had such a lovely afternoon we ran out of cinema time...friend then lent us Mary Poppins DVD to often the blow...her DD (same age) went ballistic!!!! So basically the lunch/lovely day ended in stereo screams and a hasty exit. At least it's not just our girls though eh?

Cham/Uni, I got my school choice pack last week...on my 'to do' list. Not doing it on line as you have to take ID in to school anyway...may as well do the whole thing in one go. Kiah should get in where she is at pre school due to sibling rule. Uni, I think you should put 2 more choices....I'm sure he'll get in at village school (you can look if it was over subscribed last year/gauge numbers in preschool) but if not and you don't put a 2nd then they can put him anywhere! There is a section for commenst and you can highlightb the walking/transport issue there .

Friz, we were at Matlock Illuminations last week and thought of you!! Was v. last minute or could've sorted something. Went after footie and DP had to park in Matlock and run back whilst we queued - what a bizarre experinece those boats are! DP and I ended up having chips and curry sauce for tea at 10 past 10 at night!! Uni, I think your fireshow looks like more fun.

Extension....builder was meant to finish yesterday but we are giving him one more day of plastering on Mon. Buying paint on Sun!! Radiators on.

Friz, you must come and visit when it's done..we can take girls here too local museum which is actually lots of fun.

Astrophe · 24/10/2009 10:35

Ah, glad its not just DD then LL! Yes, it does seem worse when you've had a lovely time. Poor DH got a taste of this today - had all 3 at home while I dashed to shops to buy a top and a few baby clothes , Dh made a cake with them, got the dinner and all was lovely - was obviously really happy with hoe things ahd gone...and then all went to pot and both kids tantrumed and screamed and were rude and obnoxious. Poor DH!

Great news on the reno LL, sounds wonderful! What colours are you buying?

I can't believe you are looking at school enrollment! DS startes Kindy 2 days a week in Feb, then he could start school in Feb 2011, but probably we will start him in 2012 when he is almost 6 (you get to choose the year here - almost 5 or almost 6) if we don't home ed him for the first year.

Little DD2 is rolling!

UniS · 29/10/2009 19:25

Hey Astro- get you with your MN recipe of teh week. Sound nice tho, I might just make it. Assuming I get round to buying a pumpkin.

MY craft plan for Halloween is to make a big model spider to leave dangling in the porch and welcome/ freak Trick or treaters.

OP posts:
Astrophe · 30/10/2009 03:37

Uni - thats funny, I posted it a year ago and it made it as recipe of the week last halloween too! The only reason is that I used the word 'pumpkin' though...which is what we call butternut squash (we call butternut pumpkin) - Do use butternut, or a pumpkin with grey skin (not sure what they are called in the UK? - Here =Queensland Blue or Jap)...the orange skin ones are usually a bit water and not so tasty.

Frizbe · 30/10/2009 22:11

tee hee Astro, two years on the trot is funny need to wander off and look the recipe up now of course

Uni, I really will come down to see the Fire Show one of these years, it looks great I'd put boy down for the additional school choices as well, I've just done dd2's school today online, as our's opened today...I put the school dd1 is at 1st and am hoping for a sibling place, 2nd choice is the next village over, as hoping to move out that way sometime! 3rd place is attached to the school that dd1 will feed to, but the infants doesn't do as well as the junior, I think mainly due to staffing issues. None of the schools are the one we are in catchment for but I will move house if I have to, as I really don't want her going there!

LL, the museum looks great I'll make sure we take you up on that offer enjoy the painting!

Had great time in Germany last weekend, very busy, but relaxing too met some lovely people too. Girls had great time with grandparents, who seem happy to have them again anytime soon have lots of parties this weekend including dd1's 6th where has the time gone!

We are in area for our first choice. school transport not paid for unless you live too far away BUT in designated area. Not sure what they do if a child is allocated out of des area agaist parents wishes.
Maybe we do 1- this village, 2- 5 miles away village( small school) 3- town 10 miles away. I'm told its unheard of for a child in this village not to get in to village school IF the parents sent the form in on time.

OP posts:
laundrylover · 31/10/2009 17:59

Uni, I reckon you should be fine with the village school and of course you'll get your form in on time. As will I!!

Just posting quickly as girls are at a Halloween party 3 doors down and will arrive trick or treating any minute...just did an hour's work - phew, one job ticked off.

Got some painting done this week...Soft Steel walls (Crown as on offer so v. cheap), Damson Dream highlights!! Quite adventurous of us. Went and bought purple shimmery floor too...however DP and I then lost all motivation and so went to a hotel on Thurs night in Blackburn for a comedy night and a spot of romping.

Just what we needed...DP back doing the floor today and I've been at work with girls in tow....gang of horrors just been to raid choc tin so best go an retrieve a witch and a pumpkin of my very own making.

Cadmum · 01/11/2009 19:46

Hello all!

Hectic weekend here with an extra 6 children (and one mum) sleeping-over Halloween night plus an additional 5 children and 4 parents along for Trick-or-Treating. That would be 15 children and 6 parents doing the rounds.

Total chaos!

I should have tried to avoid the whole nightmare because dd2 was admitted to hospital on Thursday night with a head injury after rough-housing with ds1. I thought that she was OK because she just seemed angry with her brother but she went from angry to dozy in about an hour and then 2 hours later she started throwing up. It was quite scary.

I am trying to decide which was scarier:

  1. the nurse in triage's calm demeanor turning to sheer panic as dd2 threw up all over him while her eyes rolled into the back of her head;
  1. the fact that she didn't shed a tear but alternated between sleep and an inability to focus while they set up her IV;
  1. The way she threw up every time she was moved until 4 am (for a total of 7 times in hospital);
  1. the concern and disagreement between professionals over whether her pupils were equally reactive until 2 am;

or 4. the way she weakly smiled and then faded immediately back to sleep every 1/2 hour when they managed to waken her to have her vitals taken.

I am so grateful for the fabulous hospital care and for the friends who were able to take the older three for the night. Of course dh is out of town for the whole event... Sod's law, eh?

Sorry for venting but I might now be able to look back and laugh some day, right?

How was everyone else's week/weekend?

Cadmum · 01/11/2009 19:49

Oh! I should add that now that the 72 hours of wait and see time have elapsed that she is right back to being her own horrid, feisty, opinionated self and I am awash with relief.

I am so looking forward to being able to actually sleep tonight that I am off to bed!

Frizbe · 01/11/2009 21:29

OMG Caddy what a nightmare, concussion is not good, but thankfully she's ok and mended now, I bet ds1 was mortified...Glad she's fixed now, great that you had a fab bunch of friends who could step in and help, phew!

LL, you made dh go, ooh look they went to a hotel! I said yes dear, we did that last week in Germany remember I don't supposed its occured to him to ditch the kids and go to the premier inn down the road, mind you I don't think I'd want to!!
Rooms sound nice want pics of purple floor! has it got glitter in it? (thinking fairy)

Uni, sure you'll get in, so it'll all be ok

So how's everyone else?

I've been doing dd1's birthday disco this am, followed by whole day of present opening, birthday tea with more guests, more cake etc and now dh and I are having a nice glass of wine and kinda watching Austin Powers

UniS · 01/11/2009 22:09

what hectic weekend we have all had. Caddy I think you win for sheer grimness.

Today we got stuck in with a spot of community cider making. Yep, really, its not just done for Camera when Hugh Witting- fernleighstall is about. Very fine apple juice we were pressing today, should have turned in to cider by about May. Last years brew was OK, but became fantastic ( and dangerously moreish) when mixed with a little fresh juice.

Had 2 vists from groups of pre teen TorTers last night. Baby sitter reported none while we were out so teh poster must have worked.

DH and I celebrated our wedding anniversary witha night out at teh village hall watching aplay that was somewhat about apples... bit of a theme weekend .

OP posts:
Astrophe · 02/11/2009 09:06

Caddy, how abso-flippin-lutely terrifying. I hope you have had a big glass of wine to recover. So glad DD2 is OK now.

Our weekend has not been so hectic as you guys have had. Went to look at a house on Saturday - too expensive and DH lost the plot with DS, then DH feeling ill went to bed for the day So guess who was left holding the baby! Had a nicer Sunday with lovely friends for lunch.

DD1 still being so difficult - answer to everything is "NO!" (arms crossed, bottom lip out) and she's picking fights all the time with DS - good reason not to haver any more Uni - its really doing my head in. DD2 is a doll and no bother at all, thankfully.

laundrylover · 02/11/2009 14:28

Caddy - sounds awful but glad she's out of the woods now. Maybe it's just me but I don't know if you are pregnant or not these days???? Are you??

Uni, liking the apple theme...I had some cider this summer as found myself in bar that only sold cider! Couldn't even drink the stuff but used to knock it back with great vigour as a student.

Friz, Happy Birthday DD1....growing up fast our little minxes eh?

Photos...I MUST put some photos on Facebook. Am crap. Mind you tonight I will be invoicing for some work as we are penniless...maybe later in the week I will get snapping...maybe the floor will actually be laid by then. DP painting today but then on short days as I am working and he is on pick ups...am resigning myself to the slow progress.

Hey, my sis had her 20 week scan and is having a girl...also look away now Astro....baby Coen is sleeping thorugh at less than 3 months, sis has had coil fitted as this is when she got carried away a year ago!!
