Shouldn't speak to soon about good baby behaviour! Lauren just woke up an hour earlier than she should have! Luckily my mum has her for the afternoon so she can deal with it. They are taking her down to the beach for a walk. Her first visit to the sea.

3mummy · 05/06/2005 16:20

Hi everyone, jambot what a great sleeper you have!

Faith was weighed on Friday and at 11wks and 2 days old is 10lb 12oz, she's bang on the 25th centile and HV is chuffed (and surprised!) that I'm still breastfeeding.

Faith is in her carseat in the garden watching her sisters on the swings - they are great entertainment for her .

Have washing to sort though so I must be off before Mnet pulls me in any deeper!

popsycal · 05/06/2005 20:10

tamula - about injections. my hv said that if you dont go for your 6 week checkm the appointment fir the injections dont get triggered....did you go?

KerryJ · 05/06/2005 20:35

Hi all, I've been reading all your posts but not getting much time to reply...sorry! Last night was a fairly typical one for Toby. Bed at 7.30pm (settled without a fuss, which was lovely!), feed at 11.15pm, again at 12am, then 2am, 4am, 5.30am and woke up at 7.30am.

Considering he's 10 weeks today, I would have thought he should be doing at least one stretch of longer than 4 hours, surely?!

Bless him though - he has improved no end during the day and is becoming a very chilled out, smiley and chatty little soul. Maybe the cranial osteopathy helped...who knows? Have another appt on Tuesday so we'll see.

norash · 05/06/2005 21:29

Hey all,

Just had a chance to come in, I have just has a chance to come in. I am taking care of my 8 month old Niece and we have been out today. We went to the circus but there were no rides suitable for her but I won her a toy

She is so cute and almost walking cannot wait for Kieran to get to this age (walk).

Oh and Tamula that bottle was polished last night but I will save you a glass tonight.

Kieran is screeming his head off, oh well another night. Here does any of you guys have SUPER NUNNY'S number?

tamula · 06/06/2005 07:07

Hi Kerryj, sorry your not getting much sleep, but glad daytimes are better for you.

thanks Norash!!! Super Mummy me thinks, winning a prize and managing both babies!!

popsy - they forgot about my 6 week check but i had it at 7 weeks.

tamula · 06/06/2005 07:09

ava went down at 1900 up at 0530 for a feed then back down and now back up but chatting to herself, i'll go and get her right now...

ciao

tamula · 06/06/2005 08:02

Kerryj - just a thought, does baby eat more during the night than during the day? It sounds like maybe more is needed during the day perhaps?

I have now topped up on Ava's formula per day by an extra 2 fl ozs which i give at around midday after both breasts and thats made a difference during the night for sure.

this is an approx outline of our day

7am up and both breasts
10 both breasts
1 both breasts and 2 fl oz top up
4 both breasts
7 5fl oz and bed

if she wakes during the night i give either one or both breasts. 1 if she wakes near to wake up time of 7am so that she takes her morning feed well.

norash · 06/06/2005 08:56

Goodmorning all,

Tamula ,

I don't think Kieran knows how to sleep anymore, I think that wire that tells the brain to tell the body to sleep is loose . Will open his head up today and see if I can fix it .

Oh well, the joys of motherhood

Leogaela · 06/06/2005 09:24

I've been away for a few days.... just doing a catch up!

Jambot, yup, things change all the time! And I find that just when I've worked something out it changes! I think everyone else is breast or mixed feeding.

As for the rest of you, I've been feeling sorry for myself that Niklas has gone from waking once a night to waking twice a night! Feeling really tired from that so I really sympathise with those of you waking up every hour! He was in our room with us while we were away and i am sure it was dh's snoring that woke him up though , we'll see if he's better tonight!

Pidge - I tried the dream feed once or twice, but decided that I prefer not to disturb Niklas (he always ended up waking up anyway) and better let him decide when to wake up and feed. I think he sleeps longer if I don't disturb him and I think

We got back quite late yesterday, Niklas was SO excited to be home he was totally hyper for ages, couldn't stop giggling and squeeling even though he must have been exhausted!

End of the day I also find I am really empty, especially if I have been busy and occassionally give Niklas a bottle of formula, but not often, usually give him extra feeds or have him feeding until my nipples get sore!

A trick I have found with feeding him with a bottle is to start him in a breast feeding position and then when he gets comfortable with the bottle move him round into a better position. I found a bottle from NUK which has a bit flat teat more like a nipple. He seems to take this one better than others, but I am wondering if there is a bottle available designed for feeding in the breast feeding position. Anyone know????

Misdee - is washing in the diswasher enough to steralise bottles and teats as well?

Had a really nice weekend in the mountains again, I even managed to go mountain biking one day ! And yesterday pushed Niklas (part way) up a mountain in the buggy.
Best part is that we were with friends so there were some other people to entertain him. does anyone else find their baby really demanding and needs entertaining ALL the time?

Niklas is getting very coordinated and clever with his hands , its developed really quickly over the last few days. he can really pick something up now in a fairly coordinated way, turns them over in his hands and of course stuffs them into his mouth. He loves touching and feeling things, and stuffing them into his mouth!

norash · 06/06/2005 09:30

Welcome back Leogaela, and well done Niklas.

Leogaela · 06/06/2005 09:50

Norash, how is the losing weight going? I've acutally managed to gain weight in the last week or so , jeans are getting tooo tight again!

misdee · 06/06/2005 09:56

Hello

Serena is sleeping after a monster feed this morning. I have been busy trying to re-design my garden, i have lots of plans but not enough hours in the day lol.

Serena is now in 3-6month clothes, she is getting longer by the day. As today is a bit overcast i am planning on sorting out her room and clothes later on, as she is quickly out growing her moses basket. I have decided not to buy new clothes for her, and have been scouring car boot sales etc for clothes. most of her 0-3 stuff was brand new and i had forgotton how quickly they outgrow clothes.
I have a box of toys in the cupboard as well i need to get out for her, atm she has about 2 toys i just forgot about the box of toys.

Dh thinks i have lost weight, so yesterday i weighed myself and i have lost 6lb in 4 weeks. thats without trying. must be because he cant drive so i am walking more.

tamula · 06/06/2005 11:35

Leogaela, sounds like you a had really nice break, I could do with a brisk walk in the mountains I agree about the need to be constantly entertained!! Ava will sit in her chair, but not for longer than a half hour at best, my friends are a great source of amusement for her and they all want to hold her - i happily oblige!! - I have been known to sneak off and have a nap if a gaggle of my friends show up all at once

I too am trying to lose weight, but i'm finding that i'm home more since i gave birth compared to when i was pregnant. I do go out for walks and such but nothing too adventurous on my own, I dont have the confidence to go too far without a friend or my partner, have to carry the nappy bag and my bag and see to Ava, when i'm out alone i find most times that i dont have enough hands!!

Misdee, good luck with the garden.

jambot · 06/06/2005 20:14

Should never boast about my daughter's wonderful sleeping!!! She has gone from a week of sleeping through with no feed to waking last two nights. Took me an hour and a half last night to settle her and only after I fed her a bottle after everthing else failed. She promptly went back to sleep till 7:30. So much for not wanting a bottle at night any more. Don't know what is going on with her - one day is never like the next!!!
Tonight she did a huge pooey nappy just as I had fed her ready for her bed in the dark. Had to strip of all her layers- winter here - and of course that woke her up! Talk about bad timing. Put her down anyway, and she seems to have gone off. Having a feeling she may have done another pooey nappy, but can't bring myself to change it and wake her up! Horrible mummy, letting dd sleep with congealed bum!

norash · 06/06/2005 20:36

Hey Jambot, sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. It seems most of our babies are having trouble sleeping, do you guys think it a developmental thing?

Leogaela · 07/06/2005 09:05

I think waking up once in the night is really good going! Jambot has just been spoilt !
Niklas only woke up once last night as well, he is in his own room at home so I am sure it was dh snoring that must have woke him while we were away.

Tamula, the mountains was great. I am really lucky that dh's parents have a holiday apartment in the mountains that we can use just about when we want to.

Misdee, well done for the weight loss! That's great as long as you have lost it through healthy ways (i.e. walking) and not through stress!
I am on a healthy eating thing again and going to try to keep up with some exercise even if I feel tired. A good start yesterday - I only ate one huge piece of chocolate cake and a packet of sweets... everything else was good ! But i did have a long walk in the afternoon and a short run in the evening.

I guess with 2 sisters to amuse her Serena doesn't need many toys though.

Does anyone (or everyone) feel back to normal after their birth and pregancy - I mean physically , not feeling extra tired, fat, blue, etc...
I still get a strange aching inside sometimes, not quite like period pain but definitely in that area. Wondered if i should still expect to be feeling a bit strange.

Leogaela · 07/06/2005 09:12

yesterday we went to a wildlife park thing near where i live. they have wild pigs. one of the pigs had babies. the babies were feeding, mum grunted rolled and rolled over so the babies could feed off the other side. it was like looking at a picture of myself when i feed Niklas laying down in bed !

...and did you know that babies of brown bears are born about 25cm long but can grow ot 3m tall as adults !!! Its amazing how something so huge can successfully care for somethign so tiny. (I love useless facts !)

norash · 07/06/2005 09:25

Hey all,

I hope everyone had a good night. Anyway, do you find that your little ones want to sit up all the time? Kieran want's to sit up all the time and cries when not put in a sitting possition.

Are any of you guys experiencing the same?

Leogaela · 07/06/2005 09:41

Norash, yes! Niklas gets really frustrated when he is lying down for too long.

he likes bieng on his front so he can see more. when we are at a table i lean him forward on his arms so he can look around but still have his back supported. I have him facing out in the sling now as he turns his head almost the whole way round to see if he is facing me. I really worry how much he is upright and that it could damage his back, but read that if he isn't comfortable he will complain. I try to change his position as much as possible.

Hmmm, there's a nice pooey smell coming from his direction now and we just had a bath!

norash · 07/06/2005 10:12

Kieran is literally pushing himself forward, you know as if he was doing sit-ups(stomach crunches)

I sit him up and he is smiling

Leogaela · 07/06/2005 10:19

wow! Sounds like he is a really strong boy for 2 months!

norash · 07/06/2005 10:29

I really think he is.

Girly · 07/06/2005 10:41

Millie does the same thing norash, always trying to sit up! she also loves clutching her muslin and chewing it, next stage is toys to hold and suck.

Can't believe she will be 14 weeks tomorrow, it has gone so fast!

She has given up b/f and is on mainly formula now but does have 2 bottles of ebm a day so don't feel too bad about it, although I do miss the cuddles you get when b/f. Its also hit and miss for sleeping through, although whe she does wake she does not take a whole bottle only an oz or 2 so is not very hungry at all!

norash · 07/06/2005 10:49

Kieran is also cluching and sucking on his blunkets, muslins and generally all fabrics that he comes into contact with.
