aaargh, that snuck up on us didn't it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ursulashipton · 04/08/2009 10:31

me too jammy. am shattered from being pissed off with DH, having another mammoth implant TOM. have backache too, but not from exercise as I haven't done more than walk the boys friends home last night.

I still just want to sleep, even though I went to bed at the same time as the boys last night.

No plans for today, but I don't really intent staying in while DH playsthat game on FB, sighs and moans, shouts at the kds and plays Wii

ursulashipton · 04/08/2009 11:52

call me judgey if you like, but I am concerned that DHs DD's only carer at home during the day is her brother (and as he has got be nearly 20 without having a job, I wonder about the responsibility being too much). With this in mind (and because when DH visited he is hospital she complained that everyone who had visited had taken her chocolates, resulting in DH rushing out and spending a fortune of money he couldn't really spare on fruit), I have made a mammoth veg-packed lasagne and intend for DH to take some of this tomorrow when he visits. Do you think this is a step too far over the line for the wicked stepmother? and if not, what other things can I make for future visits that are easy to re-heat? (and quite cheap to make) They also need to be things that can go in foil containers because I can't afford for all my dishes to be going missing!

DH is still being an arse, maybe I should just pack his things and send him home?

DS2 is crying again. I wish he would just get this bout of tonsilitis then we can get the meds and get him better

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/08/2009 12:01

Sorry if DH is being an arse Ria/ursula. Sorry I don't get "another massive implant TOM" - I presume you are not having a giant tomato implanted somewhere?

I don't think sending over a lasagne is at all wicked step-motherish. It's nice. If she's complaining about having too many chocs then presumably she has some concern about her diet so may well appreciate it as more than just something hot to eat? As for other ideas, could you do a veg-packed sheppie pie? (plenty of diced carrots and some baked beans to "stretch" the mince and a thick mash layer on top). Personally, as long as she just needs general care (ie having some lunch and drinks prepared rather than medical or personal care) I would think her brother should be OK? Might be good for him even to have a little responsibility?

I'm at home off sick again btw. It feels exactly the same as the sore throat I had a few weeks back. Swallowing is mega-painful and I have a raised temperature and am just washed out.

ursulashipton · 04/08/2009 12:12

jammy. is DD at nursery today so you can rest? hope you feel better soon.

LOL at the tomato image. My lovely contraceptive implant gives me all or nothing time of the month, for weeks on end or not at all (sorry if TMI) and at the minute it is mammoth ALL, IYSWIM. I suppose I should have it removed.

thanks for your vote of confidence in my gift idea. I was thinking healthy hot food would be helpful. I was wondering if MIL will be doing the same (she cooks 3 nights a week for BIL who has just split up with his GF). I don't hold out for DH's son doing much in the way of cooking, and if he was telling the truth when he stayed with us, his mum doesn't cook often either (which is why I'm a bit hesitant about appearing to interfere, of course if DH had made it I don't think the problem would have been the same). I am assuming no medical/personal care is needed or surely she wouldn't have been allowed home without proper arrangements?

my friend keeps replying to my emails in a particularly spiteful way, wish I was still on holiday, rain and all!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/08/2009 12:23

As long as her brother can rustle up a sandwich or similar she should be OK. It's lovely of you to be so concerned.

for your friend's emails. Ignore her!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/08/2009 12:24

And yes DD is at nursery

FrazzledFairyFay · 04/08/2009 20:10

Hope u feel better soon Jammy

Ria - I would def send the meals over, they should be grateful

ursulashipton · 04/08/2009 20:50

gah, just had an almightly performance from DS2. He fell and grazed his elbow last night when we walked his friend home, it bled a lot, so we washed it and put a bandage on when we got home (he hastes plasters), have just attempted to chang it for a clean one and managed to pull the whole scab off, cue hysterical screaming...

he is bandaged up again now, but wouldn't let me do it.

baggins has a smell on his breath - so they get more teeth round about now? or should I expect more tonsilitis?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/08/2009 21:09

Poor DS2 Ria And I thought tonsilitis was meant to be accompanied by a foul smell?

FrazzledFairyFay · 04/08/2009 21:28

I hate to introduce the topic of pushchairs, but a wheel has fallen off our trusty MacLaren so we need to by a new/2nd hand lightweight stroller asap. Does anyone have any opinions on what would be a good one to get? I'm thinking Quinny Zapp atm.

LittleMissNorty · 04/08/2009 22:23

I'm a Maclaren fan personally.....I've got a single and a twin and think they're fab. Tesco direct are very competitive on price and they'll deliver to your local store FOC.

to hear about all the illnesses...hope everyone feels better soon

I'm going into work for a day tomorrow

ursulashipton · 04/08/2009 22:29

DS2 always gets a hideous smell with his tonsils jammy, just not sure if baggins has the same smell or not. DS2 is maybe just run down and tired, and all these falls don't help, he seems SO clumsy ATM. I think he must be growing.

fairy, I have a chicco atm. I had a MacLaren quest and it was good too (but it was very 2nd hand and the wheels were a bit worn down). I love 2nd hand pushchairs

a day at work Norty! that will be nice (won't it?) how does it work going inot work on Mat leave> (if you don't mind me asking)

LittleMissNorty · 04/08/2009 22:32

Oh yes, it will be nice and peaceful

I shall just have an extra day off when I go back as I've worked all my paid hours already.

Doing a day next week as well - just covering leave of some consultants

ursulashipton · 04/08/2009 22:43

that sounds very important norty

and lucky you getting some peace.

I have convinced DH that we are going too, he is coming home after his interview to collect us. (he thought I was going out with Dsis and wouldn't want to go)

TheNatty · 05/08/2009 10:01

morning all.

sorry to hear about poorly mummies and babies
norty of your day of adult conversation!

things been hectic here, but have been lurking.
charlie having a growth spurt, feeding like mad, we both have thrush as well, so painful too.

ellen has (i think) either dislocated or badly bruised her big toe joint, she dropped a bug wooden truck on it dancing to mr tumble lol!

TheNatty · 05/08/2009 10:02

oh and fairy of all the prams ive had the maclaren was the only one that lasted, three years and two children that pram did

Sputnik · 05/08/2009 12:37

I'm really fond of my Mclaren too, Triumph I think. Got it for £50 on Kiddicare. The brake is crap though.

Sputnik · 05/08/2009 12:38

You need a proper hun, like Daisy or Holly really

ursulashipton · 05/08/2009 13:39

I like the look of the Quinny, but even 3rd hand they are too expensive for me.

MakkaPakkasWilly · 05/08/2009 14:56

Hello all

I haven't caught up...but I saw the word Quinny

Don't get a quinny Zapp, if you MUST get one like it get the petit star zia or whatever it's called as it reclines and has a basket where as the quinny doesn't

I didn't like my quinny

can't go past maclaren IMHO

back to bed... feel like shit
not very well still. DS2 is lovely though. I have to go back to hospital as I am not doing well.

TheNatty · 05/08/2009 15:09

hope you are ok MPW

MakkaPakkasWilly · 05/08/2009 15:17

I am ok

Recovering! It was an...experience. But the hospital was fab. I am going to write a letter to them thanking them, I felt very cared for and I am really enjoying being his mum despite the pain etc.

I have also realised that when I had DS1 I had seriously bad PND. The only person to spot it really was Derlor I think, bless her.
The difference in ME, my personality and how I feel about the whole thing is at polar opposites. Now I feel sad that DS1 didn't get the same mummy, but hey, can't turn back time and he gets lots of loving now!

TheNatty · 05/08/2009 17:31

MPW i feel exactly the same about thomas. i can remember really not wanting him, and sitting next to his moses basket wishing i could turn back the clock. that was the depression making me feel like that tho, i love him to bits now

MakkaPakkasWilly · 05/08/2009 18:27

I have just been sitting here bawling my eyes out... apparently I had an 'abruption', I didn't know what this was and I just looked it up.
here

I just shat myself with relief I suppose, I have been crying ever since that both me and DS2 are sitting here and we are ok.

Sputnik · 05/08/2009 18:52

Sorry to hear you're having to go back MPW, hope everything is ok.
